Jack sat back in her comfy chair, pulling off her glasses and tossing them onto her desk as she went. She closed her eyes and scrubbed her hands over her face. She’d been staring at the computer screen for hours trying to get the pictures finished for the deadline. She still had a little over a week but the overachiever in her had a different timeline that the original; minimum of four days early, depending on the job and the requirements. Finally opening her dark chocolate eyes, Jack reached for her bottle of water and downed half of it. She should take a break; she knew that. But she only had a dozen or so pictures left that needed minimal editing.
She sighed, purposefully turning her attention away from the computer to her phone. As was habitual when she walked through the doors of the studio, she turned her phone on silence, locked it, and tossed it in her bag. Jay fished it out easily enough and after unlocking it, started scrolling through her texts. Jay rolled her eyes. Six texts were from her boss alone. And he was in his office across the damn studio! Jack couldn’t help but shake her head and laugh. Whenever you take a break and check this, I ordered lunch from the bistro. Caesar in the fridge! Xoxo
Jay rolled her eyes again, stood up and stretched out all her stiff muscles before resuming the reading as she walked over to the kitchen. The salad had her name on it with a cheeky smiley face. Leave it to her boss to be dorky like that. She grabbed a fork from the drawer, popped the lid of the salad off and dug in. Unfortunately, she didn’t get three bites before her phone rang. Jack though about ignoring it, her friends would understand, but any potential clients, or the clients she was editing for wouldn’t. So ever the professional, Jay answered. “Jack Greyson,” she said in her most professional voice that, thankfully, didn’t make her sound like a twelve year old.
The call lasted nearly thirty minutes and left Jay more exhausted than the last overseas photo shoot they’d had to go on. Eight hours in the air just to get off the plane, check into the hotel and race across Berlin for the first of the two day, nine location shoot. It had been awesome but an energy killer all the same. Unable to eat, Jay put the salad back in the fridge, threw the fork into the sink for a three pointer and left the kitchen for her things at her desk, snatching her phone from the counter on her way. Jack scribbled a quick little note for her boss and stuck the sticky note on her screen. She grabbed her bag and ran out the studio’s private entrance, down the stairs and into the alley.
It was such great news. She couldn't wait to tell someone. Jay just hoped he was there. Jack hailed a cab as soon as she hit the main street, rattling off her destination as she slid into the backseat. Funny how until now she’d never really thought about any one person she just had to share her news with. Her parents and Coop were obvious, they were her parents and her best friend but other than that, no one particular popped into her head. Now, though, now she had to tell him. He had to be the first to know; another odd feeling. It shouldn’t have been so bloody odd since she’d felt so much even before she knew his name; it was like a part of her just smiled and said ”There you are, I’ve been looking all over the place.”
Maybe it was just surreal; she’d gone from being what she thought was happy but was really content in her life to being really, truly happy and she wondered how she could have ever thought she’d been happy before. The cab stopped at the side of the curb and the driver spoke the damage. If she’d bothered taking her SUV, she wouldn’t have had to worry about digging the fare from her wallet, but when she was in town, it stayed parked at her building. Work outside the city and going to her parents were the only reasons she got behind the wheel. Other than that, most of everything was within walking distance or a cab ride away. Jack dug through the bottomless pit she called a purse for her wallet, which always managed to find its way to the very bottom, under everything else she kept in there.
After a second or two, Jay was shoving bills through the plastic partition and pushing herself to her feet outside the cinema. If, by chance, she’d gotten his schedule mixed up, she still knew two places where he could be. She had to find him. This kind of news shouldn’t be delivered over the phone, it was just too awesome. It was such a break for her; she could barely contain the squeals and childish sounding laughter that wanted to escape. Jack took a deep breath and pulled open the doors to the cinema and Leander’s work.

Leander's shift was almost over, which he perfectly well knew. He'd worked overtime the last couple days, trying to round up a bit more cash than usual. Now that he had something useful to spend it on, he found himself quickly running short on the stuff. And, for the romantic in him, that simply wasn't acceptable. He sat back in his chair in the staff lounge, eyes on the clock. The next movie let out in a few minutes, which meant he was on duty for helping the next round of customers find their theatres. He sighed, running a hand through his hair. This job was getting boring, and Leander was sick of it. He wanted out. A newspaper, that's where he should be. Not fake smiling at people and saying "Theatre Blank" hour after hour. He deserved to be someplace better than this.
The only highlight of this place was that he got discounts for when he brought family or friends... or Jay. They'd been to the theatre a couple times, and he'd readily introduced her to his co-workers, who now all teased him about the bubbly young lady. He didn't mind though and laughed right along with them. Leander was too far gone to care; she made him the happiest he'd ever been, and that was all that mattered to him. Leander got up from his seat, quickly going back out to the lobby area to watch the theatre-goers leave. He plastered on his smile, eyes entirely bored as the crowd flowed out one door, then more flowed in the other.
One head of hair had his eyes snapping to attention. He'd recognize that hair anywhere. With a few quick words to the other worker, he walked off towards her, grin real now as he came up behind the girl who'd brightened his world. "Hey there, pretty girl," he whispered in her ear, arms slipping around her waist and hugging her back against him. Leander didn't know why she was here, but, suddenly, work had gotten a lot easier to bare.

She was excited and nervous and about twelve different things, but none of it really mattered. Through the doors, Jay stepped over to the side and out of the way of the flow of people. She wasn’t there to watch a movie, though it had been a favoured for date night with Leander. She loved seeing the new films out. Now out of the way, she scanned the cinema for the tall messy haired guy who made her ridiculously happy. She hoped he was here; otherwise she would have made the trek for nothing. Although, maybe Coop would be working and she could stay for a minute and say a quick hello.
She was too excited to wait and wanted to jump up and down and squeal until she lost her breath, or voice, whichever came first. She almost couldn’t believe it, and probably wouldn’t if the news had come from anyone else. But because she heard it with her own ears, she believed it; thought it was surreal, but believed it. Jay was so engrossed in her inner excitement; she didn’t even notice that messy haired writer approach and just checked herself from jumping when he wrapped her up in his arms. A wide smile broke out on her face to see him. She always felt so safe, so relax with him; it was perfect.
She spun to wrap her arms around his neck and leaned up on the tips of her toes to give him a quick peck on the cheek since she was pretty sure he was still, technically working and didn’t want to get him in trouble with his supervisor. “Hello, Handsome, done soon?” she asked, moving back to look into those light blue-green eyes she adored so much. “I have wonderful, magnificent news that I want to share,” she said happily, slipping into a thicker accent with her excitement. Already she was working up lighting and background on the taxi ride from the studio. Of course, even with this break, she’d still have to stay on at the studio; one job wasn’t enough for her to be ready to take on the entire photography world.
It was enough, however, to go on a “yeah me” shopping spree; shoes, definitely a couple new pairs and maybe a new dress, or two. She hadn’t quite figured it out, but it was an absolute must on her to-do list. As was jumping up and down, squealing like a little girl who just found out she got a pony for her birthday and running across New York to her parents’ home to deliver the news. Their utter belief in her had started to finally payoff. She’d have to buy them something really, really nice, and she was thinking dinner, at her place, just her and Leander. She wasn’t a culinary goddess, but she could make a mean stir-fry; though she’d bring that up later.

Leander felt kind of bad for how many times they'd popped by the cinema for a date. It was easier on his already tight wallet, however, and it wasn't like there weren't enough movies coming out weekly anyways. Besides, he didn't so much care about being out in public with everyone's eyes potentially on him. He much preferred the comfort of his own couch, her snuggled up to him and a movie flickering on the screen as they both dozed off. That was his idea of a perfect date; none of this fancy stuff with ties and dresses. The handsome writer liked comfort over style and wasn't ashamed to admit it to anyone. Jay didn't seem to mind the constant visits to the theatre, though, so he'd push it for a little longer. At least, until he saved up some more cash to take her on a "proper" date. Expensive dinner, gentlemanly manners, and the works.
He couldn't help a small laugh as she tensed for a moment, nuzzling her neck for a moment before she flew at him. Leander grinned back down at her and pulled her closer as her arms slid around his neck. His boss was the least of his concerns at the moment, especially since his shift would be over in a matter of minutes. Besides, he'd been there plenty this week and hadn't even taken a long break today. He could spare a few minutes for his beautiful little Blue-Jay. "Soon as the crowd's out, so'm I," he smiled, pressing his lips gently to her forehead. Why she was here, he didn't care. All he knew was that today would definitely be a lot better now that she'd appeared. Leander didn't like to call her during the day, fearing he'd interfere with some important business at the studio or catch her during a class, like so many people did with him. He usually'd ring her after class or before dinner, asking if she was free. But, this unexpected visit wasn't frowned upon or normal; something had to be up.
Just from the look on her face, he could've guessed it. Jay seemed to be overflowing with giddiness and it only caused him to smile more. "Oh do you know?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at her mock-curiously. A light twitch tugged on his lips as her accent thickened, but he continued with his huge smile. He loved when she did that; she sounded absolutely adorable to him with it. One more thing to prove that she wasn't the normal New Yorker. "How 'bout you tell me after we get out of here? I'm dying from the smell of popcorn," he joked, running his fingers teasingly over her sides. Leander kissed her nose, tucking some hair behind her ears quickly. He'd missed her since yesterday and he enjoyed the little intimacies like this.

Jay loved visiting the theatre, but like Leander, her favourite time spent with him was curled up in his arms, watching some movie she almost never saw the end of. She usually hated dressing up in her fancy clothes; they were reserved for when she met with clients and magazine editors. To say the studio was lax in its rules on wardrobe would be an understatement; especially considering there was a week where Jay went into the studio wearing pajamas. To be fair, she’d been sick and on deadline, but that was how lax it was there. She’d always felt the fancy clothes were so stuffy, so constricting, so not Jay; but on date nights, she donned some of the clothes she considered costumes of her job and watched Leander’s jaw drop.
Under normal circumstances, Jay would have waited until she knew he wasn’t at work, and tried for after class but she’d interrupted a few times by accident. Of course, these were not normal circumstances, and the young Irish girl was about ready to burst with excitement. Jay’s smile had relief mixed in with everything else. “Wonderful,” she said, happily. Her news could wait until they were away from the theatre. Jay nodded attempting a serious note, but was completely failing and perfectly okay with that. “Absolutely,” she said, and shook her head, “Oh, don’t make that face, I might make you guess and then we’d be at it forever.” Okay, it was an empty threat, and a useless one since anyone who knew Jay even remotely well knew there was really only one, maybe two, things in the entire world that could get her this giddy. It would be one of the quickest guessing games on the planet.
“Aw, well, we better get you out of here before the ambulance gets here and some big man named Hank has to give you mouth-to-mouth,” she teased trying to hold back the laughter and leaning up with a wicked spark in her eye. “That’s my job, thank you very much. And I take it very seriously,” she added, nodding, letting her heels hit the floor again. Jay scrunched up her nose, laughing happily as a blush rose to her cheeks. Who needed blush when Leander was around? Not that she wore a ton of makeup to begin with, she saw enough of the stuff caked on to models day in and day out, and she didn’t even want to look like them. She absolutely loved when they were together, and that he got her really ridiculous, often sarcastic sense of humour.

While Leander didn't do a lot of PDA like this, he wasn't entirely aware of his surroundings right now. All his attention was on his Blue-Jay and how ecstatic he was that she'd popped up here. His boss, the other employees, and even the customers floating past them didn't cross his mind once, not while he was smiling down at Jay. Later on, he'd get mockingly chewed out by the people behind the scenes of the theatre, but it was worth it. Besides, he was off in a matter of minutes anyways. Sparing a few of it to greet his beautiful girl couldn't hurt anyone, especially with the surplus of workers they had on hand today.
He gave her one of his trademark grins, hiding a chuckle as he watched her struggle to regain some seriousness. With them, it was almost never serious; that was one of the things he loved most about their relationship, though. They were comfortable enough with each other to joke around for hours on end, sneaking kisses and cuddles inbetween laughter and teasing. "Why? Were you planning on kidnapping me if I wasn't?" he questioned, smirking softly down at her. Leander laughed outright when she spoke again, shaking his head. "You know I could have you figured out in seconds, doll," he smiled, leaning down as if to whisper a secret in her ear. Dropping his voice to a husky tone, he added, "Or I could just make you tell me." Leander pulled back, pressing his smirking lips to her temple before standing back up to his full height.
"Mm, and I wouldn't have it any other way," he grinned, hugging her closer as she fell back to the floor. Leander's eyes softened at the blush filling her cheeks, noting for about the millionth time how adorable she was. "You mind waiting out here for a bit while I go get my stuff? I promise I'll be quick," he said, hands still on her hips as his eyes caught on the clock by the concessions stand. His shift was finally over, and he was more than ready to get out of the theatre now that Jay was here to fill his open afternoon.

Jack didn’t honestly think there would ever be a day where she needed to tell someone something more than she wanted to tell her parents. It was a tiny bit of a jolt to realize that was what she felt when it came to Leander. She couldn’t wait to tell him and everyone else sort of just became second for the time being. Her family would be the first people she called, but Leander, she had to tell in person; it couldn’t wait. And it wasn’t an unwelcomed feeling, she noted happily, wrapped in his arms. Being around the tall writer made Jay seriously happy, she couldn’t get enough.
Jack’s smile widened with a devilish glint. “The thought may have crossed my mind once or twice,” she said, looking towards the doors as if searching out the best exit. Leander’s words pleased her like nothing else could have more at that moment. He knew her so well, it was just perfect. She didn’t think there was another person in the world that understood her so easily; especially when she was in one of her overexcited, need to say every single thing at once moods. Jack laughed, pleased at the prospect. “And thank god for that! It makes my awkward explanations so much easier,” she said, happily. Jay shivered softly, smiling. “Promise?” she asked her voice just as low, with a smirk on her glossed lips.
Jack laughed, at the image her words brought to mind. It was a good thing she and Leander could joke around like this or life wouldn’t have been any fun at all. “Good,” she said, pleased “I like the job, and plan on keeping it for a while.” Jay tried to will the blush away but it was pointless, it would just be back again. “I don’t mind at all. Go get your things so we can get you away from that terrible popcorn,” She teased, taking a step back to let him run back to the employees lounge and get his things. Then they could go to the little coffee shop down the street and she could finally explode with the good news. Or maybe she’d just tell him on the way to wherever. She showing god like restraint so far by not bursting already.

Leander couldn't hide a chuckle as he replied to the beautiful young lady wrapped up in his arms. "I don't think I'd mind too much. This place gets boring after awhile," he joked, pressing his smiling lips to her hair as she "scoped the place out." He would've loved to run off with her, especially today. The behind-the-scenes of the theatre got boring after awhile, especially when you worked extra shifts and didn't leave like normal. He could only take so much more of scrubbing the smell of butter himself each and every night.
Pulling her closer as she shivered, Leander grinned back down at her, eyes momentarily catching on the glossy lips he'd tasted so many times already. But, still, he found himself longing for them more and more often these days. "Do I even have to?" he teased, pressing his warm lips to the corner of hers. They really shouldn't be doing this in the middle of the theatre, but he didn't care for the time being. He could take the heat about making out with his girlfriend later. Leander smiled wider, nodding in agreement at her pleased tone. "I'm glad. I was hoping you wouldn't quit so soon," he teased, tickling her side playfully as his smile grew more. He quickly pecked his lips to her forehead before answering. "Don't move," he whispered, smirking and winking at her before disappearing into a door marked "Employees Only".
Leander made his way to the employee's room as fast as he could, stripping out of his uniform top as he did so. He spun the code in for his locker, grabbing his "real" shirt and throwing it on before shoving the red top back inside. It came home on the weekends for washing but, for now, all he needed was his wallet, keys, and his phone, all things that he threw into his pockets before re-locking his locker. He signed out, waving goodbye to a couple people who smirk very clearly at him as he rushed back out to the lobby. Tomorrow would be an interesting day for him.
He emerged from the door once again, smiling as he came back out to Jay, slipping an arm around her waist. "Ready to go, doll?"

Jack smiled, shaking her head. “I suppose some little thing like me coming in with a ski mask and kidnapping a single employee would be an interesting part of the day… Make for a funny editorial,” she said, her mind drifting for a second to more lighting and staging. She was a sucker for a good photo shoot idea. Jack blinked, coming back to Earth and smiling devilishly as he kissed the corner of her lips. Not even an inch to the side and she would have been in heaven. But she didn’t want Leander in trouble, so she would wait until they were passed the glass doors and away from eyes that would tease the handsome writer during his next shift.
Jack laughed, “I’m no quitter,” she said, matter-of-factly. She hadn’t quit her sports when she moved, she hadn’t quite photography, she wasn’t going to quit a relationship with a man that still sent shivers down her spine with his slow, sexy smile. She couldn’t imagine life without her cameras and equipment and now she couldn’t picture her life without Leander; short time or not, she was completely head over heels. Jay tried to move away from Leander’s tickling fingers but wasn’t fast enough and laughed as he dropped a quick kiss onto her forehead. Theirs was a relationship built of fun and Jay didn’t want to see that go away. “Go already! The faster you are, the faster we get out of here!” she said, laughing happily.
While she waited, Jay scoped out the movie posters lining the walls. There were a couple coming out soon that she’d been dying to see since she’d seen previews on TV and it would be only too easy to set her sweet smile on Leander and ask to go. She shook her head smiling to herself as her phone chimed for a text message. She dug it out of her bag and checked the sender. If it was her family- which included her troublemaker best friend Coop, then she’d answer it; anyone else could wait until later. It was her mother wondering what time she’d be picking her little white fur ball up from the flower shop. She sent a quick one back telling her she’d pick Av up at home because she had news. And thinking of the news, her head lifted and started scanning the public space for Coop, but she didn’t see her and the phone in her hand chimed again. She smiled at the response of congrats and love. Only her mother would know it was good news over text. She was about to reply back when a hand slipped around her waist. “Absolutely! Just let me,” she said, trailing off as her fingers sped over the tiny keys. “Finish this,” she said pressing send and slipping the phone back into the bottomless pit she carried around.

Leander smirked down at her, running his fingers slowly, teasingly against her sides again. "You in a ski mask and ninja clothes... Mm, that could be interesting," he said, pulling her against his chest once again. These moments where they teased and joked with each other were some of his favorites, and he hoped they never went away throughout their relationship. This romance was a laidback one. No big, over-dramatic drama, no horrible fates interfereing; just the two of them caught up in each other between their two very different worlds.
A wide grin spread over his handsome face at her words and he let out a soft, warm chuckle. "Ah, now, that's how I like my girls," he teased, lightening the mood back up once again. They could be serious when she dropped whatever news she seemed so bouncy with. For now, all he wanted was to keep her smiling and hear her pretty laugh filling his ears. It never failed to make him smile and chortle in return, which was yet another thing he loved about his little Blue Jay. Laughing again, he kissed her forehead once more before dashing off to gather his things. Leaving her alone was hard, but it would hardly be acceptable for her to be "behind the scenes" of the theatre. Plus, he really didn't want to take even more teasing and... suggesting looks for his co-workers if the two of them ran off somewhere.
He returned, pulling her against his side and gently dragging her towards the exit as she fiddled with her phone. "Not work, I hope? They can't take you away already," he mock-whined, kissing her temple and pushing the doors open. Leander squeezed through with her still pressed tight to his side, entering the New York streets with a happy sigh. Finally, some air that didn't wreak entirely of extra butter and nacho cheese. "So, where are we going, babe? That corner cafe? The donut shop? The park?" he questioned, looking down at her as he began their stroll down the sidewalk. There were plenty of places for them to snuggle up, though he would've preferred whisking her back to his apartment where they could enjoy some alone time, complete with a nosy bird and some fresh grilled cheese sandwiches. "Or we could always escape somewhere more... private," he added, giving her a smirk that clearly conveyed the meaning behind his words, though it was hardly the main reason behind the apartment idea. They didn't get a lot of "alone" time between their two busy lives. Any chance they got for it, he was all for taking.

Jack smirked, “I think I would look fabulous,” she said, laughing at the thought of it all. Though she wouldn’t actually do that, it did bring up plenty of ideas for photo shoots. She’d have to work out the details later, much later, and talk it all out with her boss, but it was definitely an idea worth saving. Jay shook her head. It never failed, when the two were together, there was always fun and jokes. Theirs was a relationship of the comfortable kind. Jay could put her foot in her mouth a dozen times over and he always understood what she meant and made jokes about her not usually terrible speaking habits. She’d been in New York since she was barely a teenager, one would think her speech habits would have changed a little more than they had. Jay rolled her eyes, but nodded and laughed along. If she, or his sister were quitters neither would be where they were and, though he hadn’t said much about their past, she knew there was something that to be proud of and impressed by; which she was.
Jack didn’t mind being ushered along to the doors, out of the theater and into some fresh, popcorn free air. She shook her head, hoping her boss wouldn’t be so bold and call her back. It wasn’t like the young photographer had a set work time, especially considering she could easily work from home, or wherever she had her laptop. Sure, some of the time she didn’t even go into the studio. She stayed home and did her work when she could, but most times she only went into the office because there were fewer distractions at the studio than there was a home. And since she had a no mobile phone policy at the studio, she didn’t check her messages every single time the phone chimed. “You’re not getting rid of me that easily, darling,” she said, pressing her head into his shoulder for a second, for comfort. “No, it was mum,” she said as if that last word explained it all.
Jack rarely left her puppy home alone. She’d learned the hard way that he didn’t like that. Left alone, Avalanche got into everything. Jay had come home with all her throw pillows strewn across her living room. He’d gotten himself into the bottom cupboards and had her baking things and some pots and pans all over the floor. She’d spent almost three hours picking up after her rampant pooch and now, if she did leave him home, it wasn’t for long. And the only two people to usually take her little fur ball were her parents. Jack looked up at him with her brow arched mischievously, delighted by the prospect. “Mmhm, I like the sounds of that,” she said, her voice low enough for just him; like they were sharing a secret. “Surprise me,” she said, leaning into his side as they strolled along the sidewalk. “Whatever you chose, though, I’m supplying dinner,” she said, offering no hint on how that would happen. She didn’t think she was going to be the next great chef by any means, but she was pretty handy around the kitchen and could fend for herself when the need arose.

Leander chuckled with her, "You would look fabulous in anything, doll." He loved when she got all primped and "pretty" for him but, just like with his baby sister, he hated when girls did that constantly. All the makeup made him hate touching their faces or kissing them for fear he'd be covered with the stuff himself or ruin their "masterpiece." No, he much preferred a natural beauty, like his Blue Jay. His favorite pictures of her were the ones he took when they messed around with each others phones, just blowing time one afternoon. She looked happy, natural, and exactly how he loved her.
When it came to his baby sister, Leander had wanted the two young women introduced straight away. It was aparently considered "bad dating etiquette" but he didn't follow that. His sister was the only female in the world who could rival his love of Jay, though not in the same manner, of course. The young woman meant the world to him, however, and it was important to him that she got along with the few and farspread girlfriends he did have. So far, he thought she and Jay were alright together. At least, they'd never looked about ready to kill each other, which he assumed counted for something. Right?
Leander didn't mean to rush Jay out so quickly, but, truthfully, he himself needed the escape from it all. It was killing him being cooped up there for such long hours, away from the world in general and her in particular. This chance at freedom wasn't going to be passed up by the journalist, especially not when he could have his girlfriend all to himself for awhile. "Who said I wanted to?" he teased back lovingly, kissing the top of her head and hugging her closer as they walked. "Tell her that your very capable boyfriend is taking care of you for the time being, and that she has nothing to worry about," he stated, stopping in the middle of the sidewalk and turning to face her. Quickly, he leaned down and met her lips with his own, enjoying the sweet taste that only came from her. Standing back up, he pecked her forehead and, grinning widely, continued on their path once again.
"I thought you would," he chuckled richly, smirking and returning her mischievous twinkle. Leander grinned once again, the decision being made in less than a second. "My place it is, then. And, I thought I was the cook, not you," he joked, turning on the street corner and heading in the direction of his apartment building. It wouldn't take them long to get there, but, the sooner they were out of this unpredictable weather, the better. Plus, he was kind of craving real food for once and he knew his little bird needed some company since his technical "owner" hadn't been by as much recently for fear she'd disturb the new love birds inhabiting the nest.

Jack laughed, shaking her head, a blush colouring her cheeks. “I’m sure there’s something I can’t pull off. I’m just not sure what that is,” she said, pretending to contemplate the idea. “A paper bag, perhaps,” she added, considering. She wore many different things- costumes she called them, for work and events, but that wasn’t really her. She was a chameleon, you had to be really in her line of work, but she was more comfortable in jeans and t-shirts than she was in the pencil skirts, business clothes and fancy dresses than anything else. There was just too much that could go wrong, and there was too much make-up involved. She was the type of girl to brush her lashes with a quick swipe of mascara, maybe glide an eyeliner across her lower lashes and add a hint of gloss, something that took her less than five minutes in her car’s mirror, than spend nearly an hour caking on powders and liquids and well, gunk.
Jay knew what it was like to be holed up at work for hours, though their jobs differed greatly. Jay had so much freedom with her work, and she loved that more than anything. Leander had set hours and basic chores he needed to do; Jay shuddered at the thought. She was most certainly not a nine to five kind of girl and couldn’t fathom how anyone was able to work like that. Of course, the only job she’d ever had was what she had now, so it was easy to see how she wouldn’t understand the Nine to five routes. It also gave her the availability to have lunch with Leander’s sister more often than he knew about. Jay wouldn’t go so far as to say they were best friends, or anything; after all Jay was the reason she didn’t get to see her darling brother as often, but they were friends nonetheless.
Jay smiled, brushing a stray hair away from her face. “Probably a good thing or we’d be at a crossroads, wouldn’t we?” she asked rhetorically. She was about to say some smart mouthed retort to that, but it all flew out the window when Leander’s lips met her for those precious few seconds. She loved how easily he could just shut her brain down. Many have tried to get the young photographer to quit thinking, and all have failed miserably; all but Leander. He really was the peaceful calm to her raging storm. “I, um,” she started, pausing to try and gather her thoughts again as they continued walking. “I don’t think worrying is part of her agenda today when it comes to me. Though I suspect I’ll have to find yet another surface for a congratulatory bouquet of Stargazers,” she managed to say without much difficulty. Though her mother had no idea what she was celebrating with her flower arrangement, she knew it was something to be proud of. “Anyway, there’s a lot to celebrate!” she added, remembering why she’d left the studio in a hurry to find her handsome boyfriend.
A smile played at Jay’s glossed lips. “How could I not? An entire afternoon curled up with you? That sounds absolutely perfect,” she said playfully. Jay laughed, shrugging, a blush colouring her cheeks again. “I still have a few surprises up my sleeve. Believe me, I’m no master chef like you, but I do know my way around the kitchen,” she said, laughing happily. “Though, since I don’t know what you’ve got in your kitchen, we’ll have to make a quick stop to get some things,” she added, making a mental list of the ingredients she’d need; so basically anything she felt like adding to it, since she could only make a handful of things well. “Tell me objections now before we get there,” she warned, smiling; too happy to even try to be serious.

It was impossible for him to hide the boyish smirk tugging on his lips right now. His Jay in a paper bag... just a paper bag. He could already see the results of that one, especially if she ventured to try the outfit out while they were holed up in one of their apartments together. "Why don't you try that out and let me be the judge?" he offered, giving her a playful wink before gently kissing the top of her head. Leander loved her the way she was; whether that was in jeans and one of his shirts, a fancy dress and heels, or her pajamas didn't vary his opinion. He loved her no matter what.
He chuckled softly at her words, shaking his head and simply kissing her. Leander knew it'd make her stop thinking completely; that was the point of it. He needed it, too, however, and kissing her was the perfect way to get lost on a completely familiar street corner. He wrapped his arms tight around her to hold her close as their lips parted, not wanting to let go but knowing they had to keep moving. The New York sidewalk traffic didn't exactly pause because you wanted to kiss someone. Actually, the traffic tended to plow into you and bark at you like it was all your fault. "You still haven't confessed what your big secret is," he reminded after she brought up a bouquet. He had never bought her one of those yet, having seen the inside of her apartment filled completely on occasion with the things. Her parents having a flower shoppe kind of ruined the romance of flowers, in his mind, which was why he always opted for something other than them. Chocolates, a trinket, or some little thing with a camera on it were usually the focus of his gifts when he sprung for them. And, being the romantic he was, there was never a chance at guessing when a present would pop up.
"It does sound perfect, doesn't it?" he smiled back warmly, squeezing her lightly as she blushed. They could pop on a movie, curl up with whatever food she cooked, and enjoy a quiet afternoon of just them. And a bird, but Dex was the least of Leander's worries at the moment. Smirking at her mention of cooking, he teased, "Ah, then I get a chance to distract you for once!" There would most definitely be a mess in his kitchen after this, and neat-freak him would have it cleaned in seconds, but it'd be a hell of a time making that mess. "Why don't you tell me a list of options first," Leander laughed, kissing her temple and walking towards the market near his apartment. He often stopped in their for his groceries, but he'd never actually brought Jay there before. Their first shopping trip together; awww.

Jay thought about it for an entire second before that wicked grin of hers spread across her lips. “You’d like that too much,” she said, laughing. Playfully, she asked, “Have one at your flat? We'll try it out later, see how it goes,” wiggling her brows. She was such a complete and utter nerd. But that was alright. With Leander, Jay could act like a total fool and he still laughed along with her, still held her close, still kissed her and carried on with her. There weren’t many like her personal Prince Charming. And Jay loved him all the more for it. He was so sweet, and treated her like a princess, and words really couldn’t describe how she felt; thankfully, she wasn’t the journalist.
The petite brunette slipped her arm around Leander’s waist as they continued walking. Laughing, she shook her head. This news was too good for her to be told in the middle of a busy street with no real way to celebrate when the crowd of the sidewalk pushed into them and sent them dirty look because they were in a rush and a happy couple was enjoying the slow walk home. “It can wait until we get off the streets and away from these pushy people,” Jack said, laughing happily. Anyone catching parts of their conversation would probably think the petite girl was certifiable, laughing at things that weren’t exactly hilarious, but she was just too damn happy to do anything less. Spending an entire afternoon alone with one of her favourite men was completely heaven. And it was just what the doctor ordered on such an amazing day. It didn’t matter what was going on in the world, Jay was in bliss. “Absolutely heavenly,” she agreed, happily. It didn’t really matter what was planned, it was always magical and fantastic and just wonderful.
Jay bit her lip and looked up at Leander “I love distractions,” she said. She knew there was no point in even asking if he would leave the mess her cooking was sure to leave behind in her wake alone for at least until they were finished. But she loved a neat freak, and knew without a doubt he’d be right behind her whirling tornado cleaning up the mess before the flour even touched the counter; not that there would be flour involved, of course. Smiling, she said, “There is absolutely no way I am telling you what I’m making until it’s all said and done. Maybe not even then, though I suspect by that point, you’ll already have a guess,” and playfully swatting at his chest with the back of her hand. “You just need to tell me if there are any foods you don’t like that I don’t know of yet. Just in case,” she said, shrugging. They knew a lot about each other, but with Leander usually cooking or going out when they were together, Jack didn’t know all of his food preferences.
