He added as their glasses ‘clinked’ together and he raised the expensive liquid to his lips, taking a small sip, savouring the taste of the vintage. Being from Arles, Marc had tasted countless wines, knew the differences in the flavours and had been drinking it most of his life in a sensible moderation; he favoured it now over beer and spirits, though a nice malt was always good to keep in the house for certain moments.
There was a lot that Marc and Bella still had to go through as a couple; things that life threw at everyone at some point or another, but for now he was just glad that everything was going so well and that they were back on track and stronger than ever. It was a nice feeling and once they had turned this penthouse into more of a home over the coming days and weeks, Marc felt confident that they’d find themselves quite the little New York family. He knew that Bella still had bonding to do with Laurence which would be a lot easier once the six year old was more fluent in English and there was no longer as thick a language barrier between the pair. The Frenchman had high hopes though for his girlfriend and his son; he just had to give them a bit of time to adjust to this new home and let life settle down for them all once again.
The water was just the right temperature and after helping the moving men carry boxes and bags about all day, it was exactly what he needed to relax his muscles and unwind after the chaos that came with moving and all the running about too. He knew that once his head hit the pillow on their bed tonight he would be out for the count and not even the end of the world would wake him up, at least until the next morning when the unpacking, decorating and sorting out of things would continue once more. At least for now they were alone, relaxing and there was nothing to drag them away from this time together. “And to a ‘appy ‘ome.”
His dark eyebrows furrowed at the noise coming from the rest of the apartment. The place was locked up, the animals and Laurence down for the night, so there was no reason for there to be anything other than the chatter of himself and Bella. “’Ee should be.” Marc said warily, thinking quite the opposite now. He knew that Laurence was excited by his new home, his new room and the new addition to their brood in the form of the hyperactive Arcade. Still, there wasn’t much time to think about it since the three not supposed to be in the room quickly appeared around the door, barking, squealing and pawing at whatever they could. He had to laugh at the comedy of Bella’s reaction and the situation, but he quickly stopped all of that and sunk into the role of responsible parent. Leaning over, he grabbed his role from the floor and then used it to cover up whilst he stepped from the bath, the air much cooler than the water. Snapping his fingers to get the attention of both dogs and his son, Marc threw on his best stern expression, ignoring the fact that his son had just caught them in the bath together. “Laurence, pourquoi êtes-vous sortir du lit? Vous êtes censé être endormi et ne sont donc les chiens. Il est tard et il ya beaucoup à faire demain, ou vous ne voulez décorer votre chambre?” The little boy looked meekly up at Marc but the Frenchman didn’t falter. “Lit, maintenant.” Gently, he pushed Laurence towards the door before grabbing Arcade and dragging him out whilst picking Gemma up from Bella and taking her too. He waited until all of them had settled again outside of their bedroom and then moved back to his girlfriend, shaking his head and chuckling. “So much for a quiet night, eh, ma Cherie?”
