Tanner didn't do "talking" well. Growing up, he'd never been encouraged to vent his feelings verbally, and it had carried over strongly into his adulthood. He still didn't talk when he was upset; he still didn't talk when he got extremely excited or happy. Instead of lips, he used a paintbrush or a pencil and a piece of paper. That spoke volumes more eloquently than he ever could, and he knew that, which was why he stood so strongly behind the method as opposed to therapy sessions on those stupid couches or "talking things out" with friends. Give him a sketchpad and pencil; he'll write his entire life story within a few pages and designs.
Sharp eyes watched as she danced, taking photographs and storing them for when he'd later perfect his drafts and final piece. He took snippets of different movements, tying them into one, beautiful pose roughly sketched onto the center of the page. Her face was left slightly blurred, but her hair and the dance clothes she'd been in before were there, as were her lean figure and graceul limbs. It was her, just without the face to tie it all together. "It was great, Maddie," he answered, looking up after a few final flourishes of his dulling pencil. He tucked that into his bag, flipping the sketchpad so she could see the work he was so proud of. "What do you think? Look like you at all?"
Tanner began packing up his bags, tucking the pad away after she'd had a chance to look through it. "I've never done well with lectures. I get it, though; don't worry," he said hastily, zipping his bag and getting up off the floor. Ripping a piece of scratch paper from his handy notebook for class, Tanner quickly scribbled out a few digits and his name. "I'll see you tomorrow night for dinner, alright? Thanks; have a nice night, Miss Maddie," he smiled politely, offering her the scrap and turning towards the door, preparing to go home for a long needed nap.
