“Yes. I’m going to grab a Sharpie and start writing ‘property of Dawson! Hands off!’ on you.”
He joked, although KC really shouldn’t put it passed him to attack her with a permanent marker one of these days. It was the childish sort of thing that Dawson was more than likely to do once given half the chance! In all seriousness though, Dawson wasn’t the kind to interrogate her about her day or demand to know every person in his life. He couldn’t understand people like that or why they even gave those relationships a shot. If there was so much distrust and doubt then how could there ever be a chance for happiness? It just left people jaded and hurt and Dawson didn’t want that for himself or anyone else he cared about. Grinning, Dawson shook his head. “Wrong! My sisters are the worse. No one needs to spend as much time in the bathroom as they seem to.” They were always shouting at Dawson and Aaron to hurry up in the mornings because they had hair, make up and several other things to do apparently. The brothers eventually got used to getting up earlier than was necessary just to avoid being shouted at by Aurelia and Rachael. The Naylor household was rarely a calm, peaceful place, but Dawson honestly didn’t want his siblings any other way. “A pretty blonde zombie with blood all over her face.” As though KC needed to understand, he lightly rubbed both of his hands over his face, as though he was smearing blood on her skin. In Dawson’s mind there was no point in zombies without the excess blood. “It’s okay. There will always be another chance for me to chop you into little pieces and scatter the remains across the woodland.” He said, patting her shoulder reassuringly, as though this really was a plan that would come to pass eventually. Dawson probably didn’t have the patience for such a task if they were going to break it down to technicalities and it would only be a short matter of time before he would rather be jumping from high places or tackling fresh snowfall on a board. “I’d agree, but it’s too late; you already are a horror!” He let out an evil laugh as he grabbed mercilessly at her sides, eventually picking her up and spinning her around for no other reason than because he could. “Someone needs to capture my life story on film for all the world to celebrate.” He offered with a cheesy grin, playfully tapping her nose with his finger. With KC there were far too many chances to act foolish, which was a good change. Girls in the past had grown bored quickly of Dawson’s silly ways and daft comments. “But there will be plenty of time for everything else.” He said, waving his arms flamboyantly, as though a show of sorts was about to begin. Grinning, KC turned around, facing away from Dawson. “As long as you start right here.” She said, looking over her shoulder and down, expecting Dawson to use his own intelligence to figure out her meaning. She was hardly being subtle, he wouldn’t need any help figuring it out. KC didn’t keep secrets on purpose. She either forgot to mention something or didn’t feel like it was that important that she had to share. And she liked that Dawson didn’t demand to know every aspect of her day or life. A lot went on in a single day and unless she started writing down every little piece of information, she couldn’t retell any story completely. At the same time, she couldn’t ask Dawson about everything that went on with him because it wasn’t all her business. She always felt like if someone wanted her to know something, they would tell her on their own time. She was the same with others. If she wanted to share, she would. And though she usually held nothing back when it came to news, she felt like omitting her choice in breakfast or lunch menus or who she shared the meal with was acceptable so long as there hadn’t been good news given, though even then no one needed to know she opted for fajitas over a double bacon cheeseburger or a salad.
KC shrugged lightly. “They’re girls. You’ll never figure it out.” She said honestly. She couldn’t figure out why her gender had to spend so much time in the bathroom primping and pampering just to go out for a cup of coffee at the corner deli. In those cases, KC went as she looked, usually disheveled, with her hair up in the messiest bun imaginable, and the sweat pants she’d more than likely worn to bed the night before; if she’d even gone to bed of course. But those days were few and far between, usually only when someone forgot to pick up coffee with the rest of the groceries. “Yeah, the blood of a gorgeous and insane musician. Know any? I’ll have to keep him close if the coffee was left behind.” She teased, bringing her hands up to Dawson’s so she could stop him from rubbing imaginary blood all over her face.
Arms across her chest, KC pouted and turned into Dawson’s side like it was just all so sad she wasn’t about to become the victim of his murderous rage. “I was so looking forward to it.” She mumbled against his chest, adding a slight shake to her body like she was crying. It was a shame she wanted to be behind the camera. She would have made a killing in front of it. Maybe when she was all set and a part of a studio somewhere, learning the ropes first hand, she could try her hand at acting professionally. KC couldn’t help herself, she caught the case of the giggles with Dawson’s hands grabbing at her sides. “Hey! Stop that!” she tried to get out in one go but knew it was probably difficult to understand through the laughter. “Well, I am good with a camera.” KC agreed, nodding her head slowly. Grinning, KC leaned forward to steal a kiss while she had the chance. It wasn’t always so easy to just reach up and plant one on Dawson. The man hardly stopped moving so the film student stole them whenever she could. “So, did someone mention bed sheets?” She asked, stepping a bit closer to the tall musician. “Because we should really set those aside for climbing gear while we have the light.”
