Since she'd left New York the first time, Meg's father had been pressuring her to really start figuring out her life. The job wasn't enough for him, apparently. He'd been dreaming about weddings and grandchildren since Meg was a young girl, and, now that she wasn't getting any younger, he pushed and prodded so that, maybe, she'd land a ring on her hand someday soon. Meg had been pushing back though, and carefully avoiding all of his little plans to set her up with the fresh college graduates he met at his job. She didn't want to be married yet; she wasn't that old, after all. She had awhile before her peak was passed, and, even if she was caught up in work, she trusted in the fact that, if she was meant to have a husband and family, it'd happen naturally, with absolutely no help from her father.
Meg gave their server a smile as their drinks came back out, sipping on her water and listening intently as Theo spoke. She ate up every word that left his lips; she didn't want to miss any of it. "So exciting," she said and grinned across the table at him. His acting career sounded way more adventurous than her labs, and part of her wished she could've been there with him, looking after Issy and giving him a "good job" kiss every time he took a break. She shook her head to push the thoughts away; the time for daydreaming was long gone. "I'll have to invite her over for a girls' night soon. I'll need one if I've got to spend more time with painters and movers," Meg said with a happy smile. At his question, she shrugged and took another gulp of her water. "He's doing great. I'm fighting with him about when he's gonna retire, but, he's great. Still treating me like a six year old," she laughed. That was one thing that would never change, and Meg knew it; she'd always be a little girl in her father's eyes, no matter how independent she became. "I'm hoping to have the house somewhat ready when he finally flies in. I don't want him having to mess around with tools or hanging pictures," she added, looking down at her glass. Meg had been very protective of her father since the incident with her graduation banner, which was part of the reason she'd chosen to come up early. This way, she could hire a few people to help with the house and keep her father very far away from any hammers or ladders.

Theo’s family kept their opinions to themselves if they still lived in Scotland. Lilia was the only one who would ask the questions or tell him the things he didn’t ask for. No one really knew how to react after Jenny had suddenly died and even now that a few more years had passed it still seemed surreal to sit and really think about it all. Since they didn’t know what to say and since Theo hadn’t exactly wasted his life with a marriage under his belt and a little girl happily laughing at his side most days, it was almost as though they were leaving him alone to chase the dreams most would’ve gone after when they were much younger. Theo had been the same once, but then Issy had come along and things had changed and he chose to be the family man, rather than the actor breaking out onto the scene. He didn’t regret it and now he felt like those years of real life experience had actually helped him perfect certain roles or convey more realistic emotions when a part called for them. He had been through more than some of the kids at the auditions he attended and while he refused to tell a sob story to directors and casting producers, he still found himself a little more grounded than some of the over eager and over confident drama graduates who were only just getting used to holding an ID that wasn’t fake.
Chuckling, Theo gave the waiter a quick thanks and then turned his attention back to Meg. “In front o’ an audience or a camera, maybe, but the rest is pretty tedious stuff.”
Late nights reading over scripts didn’t bother Theo all that much, but it was the technical problems or the fiddly bits that directors just liked to keep fussing over that made Theo want to pull his hair out. Some didn’t seem to realise that repeating something too much ruined the run; the actors grew cranky and they just wanted to move on, so more mistakes or slip ups were made. “She’ll love that, I’m sure of it.” He replied sincerely, taking a sip from his glass before licking his lips. Theo had to laugh warmly at the mention of Mr Warren, but he nodded his head in total understanding. “That’s because you’re still his little girl. We dads never see it differently.” There might have been a number of years before Issy was causing him real worry and troubles, but Theo knew that she’d always be the little girl curled up on his knee for a story or a cuddle, even when she was “too cool” to be seen with her da. “Like I said, I only have rehearsals for now; the show’s got a couple more weeks before opening night, so if you’re needing a hand with anything…” He trailed off and simply smiled across at Meg, knowing he’d made this point already. “When does he get in?” He asked, wondering how long it would be before Meg’s life in New York would be a little more settled, if life in New York ever could be.
