Lexi had never really considered leaving New York. It had been her home since the day she was born and she had seen no reason to change that. Even the painful memories of her past weren’t enough to have her turning her back on the city that never sleeps. There had been a time when she had thought about travelling and seeing the world, but then she had the rest of her life and vacations for things like that, and such trips were best experienced with others than alone. She wasn’t ashamed to admit that she would get homesick if she left the city for too long. Her entire life was in that concrete jungle! Of course, she couldn’t predict the future or what Fate may bring her way. She certainly hadn’t thought that she’d meet and fall hopeless in love with a man that day in Central Park when footballs had been deadly. Yet, it had happened and without that flyaway ball she wouldn’t be here with Denver in the place he had grown up. “I already do feel welcome. No one needs to fuss.”
She said with a small smile and slight shake of her head. Sarah and Meg really couldn’t have done much more to ease Lexi’s nerves since her arrival. What remained was just Lexi’s own irrational concerns. Growing up, Lexi had stayed out of trouble for a number of reasons. Mainly it was the bullying from her peers that kept her in her bedroom and therefore she was never at risk of breaking curfew or hanging with a bad crowd. She had kept to herself and most of the time the fights with her sisters had been the only time she had been yelled at by her parents. There had been some yelling when her secret came out to them, too, but that had been a different situation and one that no one had expected. She had been raised with manners, played the good girl and even now when she was twenty-two she still took her parent’s opinion into consideration before making any big choices. She respected their thoughts and sometimes it was what she needed to sway her own indecisiveness. “You can appreciate them!” Lexi said like it was the most obvious thing as she looked up at the handsome doctor. Lexi knew she would be subjected to questions during this trip, but she kept telling herself she could handle them. She didn’t know what Denny had told his family and she didn’t know what they might still want to know, but Lexi had the intention of answering as honestly as she could. There was only one thing hidden in her past and it was the only thing she wouldn’t be able to reveal now; everything else she would willingly talk about if they wished to hear about it. That would come later though, since right now she had an extremely distracting boyfriend to deal with! “There are so many things I want to do…” She trailed off and pushed herself closer to him, leaning up as though she was going to steal another kiss. Instead, she just held herself a hairsbreadth away from his lips and smirked. “You really shouldn’t tempt me.” She flirtatiously whispered with a mischievous twinkle glimmering in her dark eyes as she winked and stepped away again. Five minutes ago she had been talking about behaving so she could make a good impression and now Denny seemed to making it damn near impossible. Closing her eyes at the touch of his kisses, she let out a sigh, slumping slightly against him for a second. “Are you trying to drive me crazy?” She asked with a low chuckle, pressing a lingering kiss to the hollow of his neck before leaning back to look up at him. “Because it’s working.” She admitted, tugging lightly on his shirt as she playfully pouted. Denver knew his mother would relax after tonight. Meg was an excitable woman, always on high alert whenever her children brought friends home. She just wanted them to feel welcomed in the end and her way of doing that was making sure everything she could get her hands on was absolutely perfect. It might have been overdramatic but it was Meg. Both Sarah and Denny learned to just let her do what she wanted, and stopped telling her this was too much or that was overkill. She would do it anyway, with or without their input so not giving it was best. “Fussing is what Ma does. She’ll calm down by tomorrow, the day after at the latest.” Sarah said in passing with a shrug. “It’s like the flu, there’s really nothing you can do but let it run its course.” Denver added, pressing his lips to Lexi’s temple.
The young Pediatrician had rarely been home when he’d been younger simply because it just wasn’t what happened in their neighbourhood. With all the forests and parks around, they could be gone all day and only stop in once or twice for food and drinks before rushing off again. And when they got older, there was girls, boys, bikes, cars and skateboards so there was no reason to be around home when you didn’t have to be. Denver was hoping this trip would be similar. There wasn’t a whole lot to do around the area his family lived, but the rest of the city was promising and Denny had planned on taking Lexi to the other side of the province, which would be a side trip hijacked by his mother and sister but he could deal with that when it happened. “I do appreciate them. I just don’t know what I would do with them.” He said chuckling. He wasn’t good with gifts, though he could fake it. Usually, he sent his family money and whenever Sarah visited, he went out with her and let her run free in the shops while his credit cards sighed. Or, if her visits weren’t falling around a good holiday, he talked one of the few women he knew into going out with him and picking things out. His credit cards usually took less of a beating those trips but his family and friends were worth the small sigh he heard every time he pulled a card from his wallet.
Denver hoped his parents wouldn’t badger Lexi too much. A lot had happened in a fairly short amount of time and it was easy to forget that only a few short months ago, they were complete strangers. But Denny’s feelings for Lexi were strong and he hadn’t been raised in a household where they were encouraged to hide how they felt. He wore his heart and most of his emotions on his sleeve for the world to see. Plus, he thought he’d told them enough to keep them satisfied though now that they were there, that might have changed. “But tempting you is so much fun.” He whispered, staying exactly where he was and letting her step away even though it killed him not to reach out and pull her back against him and hold her close. Soon enough they would be coming back up to this room and he could hold her as close as he wanted. “Good.” He said with a low laugh. Denny pressed his lips to Lexi’s before slowly stepping away, finally letting his arms drop to his sides. “You better get to putting your things away. Sarah won’t wait long before wanting to drag you out.” He said, running his hands through his hair because he wanted to do exactly that to Lexi and knew he couldn’t. It was a pity, too, that hair of hers just begged to be touched.
He had gotten the last of his things put away and was shutting the drawer when Sarah’s familiar knock sounded on the bedroom door. Denver tossed his head back to look at the ceiling for a minute before turning his attention to Lexi. “Told you so.” He said, skirting the bed and opening the door wide for his bothersome little sister. “Let’s go den. I gave ya plenty a time to put ya tings away. I’m sure ya don’t want to be stuck in this place for the rest of the day, do ya, Lexi?” Sarah asked, bouncing in and just dropping herself onto the bed. Clearly their mother had let her out of whatever kitchen duties had been assigned to play hostess. Bless his mother, he was going to have talk to her. Grinning at the thought of having one of those comical fights with his mother again, the ones where they’re both name calling and acting like fools but nothing ever gets taken to heart until the last thirty seconds when one of them finally said ‘No, but seriously, don’t.’. “We were going to go on a walk through the neighbourhood. I was going to show Lexi around a bit. Bugger off.” Denny said, narrowing his eyes at his sister for her to get the clue. But she waved her hand in his direction. “He doesn’t know anything anymore. He’s not been around in ages. Everything ‘as changed and you need a proper tour guide showing ya around!” With Lexi around, big brother Den was invisible.

Lexi’s parents could be a handful when meeting new people. It was why she had been silently glad that they had met Denver during a social event that wasn’t in their own home. Otherwise the poor doctor would have been subjected to tours, conversations of aged scotch, and her mother leading him everywhere as if she would never let him go. They were a public family, unfortunately, and sometimes the act got a little out of hand. With the ball, there had been other matters and other people to attend to, leaving Lexi and Denver with a little more time away than they would have had if she had just brought him home for lunch one Sunday. “And offer chicken soup?”
Lexi asked jokingly, looking up at Denny with a small smile. Her childhood had left deep scars that had stolen any chance of a social life. When friends told stories about high school adventures now Lexi was the girl who sat quietly with a polite smile on her face. Her own social life only kicked off in her senior year and it had been nothing like she had longed for. There had been even more backstabbing and heart break than she had been prepared for and going to university had escaping those people had been the only way to move on from it. Even that took her some time though and there were still moments during those four years when she felt so unlike the girl she really was. That girl could go out and enjoy herself, but deep down Lexi preferred quiet comforts of books and small company. She felt safe there and far away from the ghosts of her past. It wasn’t what people expected when they first met her, but Lexi was definitely more than her first impression and she just hoped that all worked out on this trip, too. “Mission: change that.” She joked, clicking her fingers as though it somehow made a note of that little mission. Secretly, she enjoyed Denny’s teasing and jokes despite her comebacks and protests, but she was pretty sure the grin on her face usually gave that away. Lexi could be great with new people if she put on the socialite airs and graces that she had been raised with and that her sisters permanently charmed New York with. However, she would much rather be herself, even at the risk of stumbling over questions and blushing as red as a tomato over the slightest little thing. She wanted Denny’s family to meet that girl; who she was for their son and brother. She just hoped she didn’t make a fool out of herself or Denny by doing that, or say something that would make them think the worst of her. After everything that had happened in the time she had been with the doctor, the last thing she wanted was to lose him. No one had swept Lexi off her feet the way Denver had done and he made it seem so easy that there were times when Lexi was convinced that it was all too good to be true. Yet, each time, she was proven wrong; he was her boyfriend, he wasn’t about to toss her aside like others before, and he really was as amazing as he had first seemed that day in the park when he played the hero. “Then I guess it’s a good job I have a semblance of self-control or that might just get you into trouble.” She warned playfully with a slight laugh. He really was able to drive her crazy with the slightest thing and she loved it. It was just a shame that life called them away sometimes when she really did want to give into those temptations. “I was doing that before someone so rudely distracted me.” Lexi smirked, shooting Denver a look as she grabbed some more clothes from her case and moved to put them away. She nudged into him playfully as she walked by and then returned to her case again. When the knock came at the door Lexi was just grabbing the last of her shoes to put them away. Why she had packed so many shoes was beyond her, but then they should really be thankful there wasn’t a separate bag just dedicated to heels, boots, sandals and anything else the young brunette happened to spend a small fortune on for her feet. With the heels balanced in her arms, she smiled at the siblings and crossed the room again. “Clearly you haven’t seen how I pack.” She joked in reference to Sarah’s comment about plenty of time to unpack. The shoes were the last things though, so it wasn’t too bad now. With the last two pairs in her hands she quickly slipped them with the others and straightened up again, flicking the hair from her dark eyes and looking between Denver and Sarah, pausing slightly. “Um, sure?” She said quietly with a polite smile, not really sure what else to say. Lexi didn’t want to upset anyone or come across as rude. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED! Denny! WORDS! 892! OUTFIT! Airport Cutie! LYRICS!
