Ronnie had known that a powerful, recognised name could get anyone anywhere. She had known that before she could even spell her full name. However, while the perks of that did come in useful when it came to getting reservations someplace or getting tickets for an event, her name was only part of the reason why she was spending her summer interning in New York’s top fashion house. The main reason was the years of hard work she had put into the fashion industry before deciding to turn her back on most of the modelling aspects and focus on what went on far behind the camera. In fact, it was one of the top designers here who had often allowed her to ask questions, scrutinise some of the designs and he had been the one to plant the seed in her head about pursuing fashion at college. Now, he gladly took her under his wing and let her run crazy in a small corner of the fashion house. Ronnie had spent the day playing with fabrics, pencils and criticising the stitching on a dress she had modelled the week before when an old friend had called in a favour from her.
It was a busy day and one that Ronnie got caught up in easily enough. She had to be reminded of the time and then she swore loudly, bundling her things away before racing from the building like a blonde tornado in skyscraper heels. She had a night of birthday cocktails for a friend in the Empire Lounge of the Empire State Building and Ronnie still had to get ready for that. Dropping her bag by the door, Ronnie first moved into the kitchen to make sure Bells was watered and fed for the night before she forgot about it and got caught up in the preparations for her evening out. One shower later and Ronnie sat at her large vanity to deal with the laborious task of taming her thick, long hair. Choosing to keep it straight for the evening, it took time to smooth out the natural messy waves that she had inherited from her dad. With her outfit already picked out a day ago, Ronnie didn’t take very long to get herself ready for the night in the city that never sleeps once her hair was sorted out.
Most of her friends were already there when she arrived and it was only the birthday girl who kept them waiting, but she was showered with neatly wrapped gifts the second the group laid their eyes on her. A few cocktails, a few hours later and one or two of the group were ready to go home. Ronnie could pace herself a little better than some of those who were still new to breaking out from their parent’s rules. She didn’t mind and waved goodbye when the birthday girl and two others chose to leave before they passed out or did something they’d regret. Ronnie remained with the other girl and chose to go up to the bar and get the drinks in. She turned around only to double check the order and had to smirk and roll her eyes at the sharp dressed man who was occupying the empty spot on the couch next to her friend. Shaking her head, she chose to just order herself a drink and then slid herself onto one of the fancy stools. The least she could do was give her friend the chance to see if this guy was worth spending the time with. Raking her fingers back through her hair, she handed over the money for her drink and then raised the fancy cocktail to her lips as she crossed her long tanned legs and toyed with the corner of the napkin the bartender had provided with the drink.
