Fallon woke up that morning wishing it was Saturday and she was class free. But life didn’t work that way and so she got out of bed, went through her morning routine and went off to work. It wasn’t so much about the classes but the meeting she had with a student afterward. She loved teaching; it was having to tell someone they were failing that disappointed her. She felt like she was failing as well. On her way into the building, she grabbed a chai tea latte with extra whipped cream and chocolate shavings then continued through the doors and down the hall to her office. Once there, she shed her coat and bag, grabbed her books and papers, along with her latte and left again, locking the door behind her.
The lecture hall she was using for this class was still empty, thankfully and she practically fell into her desk, dropping everything but her coffee onto the wooden top. Fallon tossed her blonde hair over her shoulder before grabbing up a couple of the papers and books scattered around and started looking over them. Neither of which would be needed that class, because they were going to watch clips of a movie and discuss it, thoroughly. Fallon lifted the mug to her lips and took a tentative sip of the burning coffee, trying to avoid burning her tongue. She didn’t need all this paper work in front of her.
She was a bit of a hard ass when it came to class, but at least her student’s could boast learning something they were actually studying. She, herself, had a professor in her junior year who rambled so much about life outside that the only way the California girl learned anything was through her uncle and the syllabus the Professor had been kind enough to hand out; before she went on a two hour ramble fest. A side note here or there sure, that’s understandable, but an entire class about how you’re dog was up for a part in a Brad Pitt movie? That was a bit much.
Slowly, her students started to arrive and take their seats. The show was about to begin and Fallon couldn’t wait to hear what her student’s thought about it all. She got to her feet and moved around her desk to lean on it with the projectors remote in her hand; the movie had been set up for the class the night before. When the class was full, she cut the lights, returned to her desk and began her speech with the DVD’s clip page waiting for her to select the next scene. The class lasted only ninety minutes, but they were productive. And now it was all over and the room was slowly being abandoned by the young minds. Fallon returned to her seat behind the wooden desk and started gathering up her papers.
