Ayden was still in shock. The whirlwind that had been her life lately had already been enough to drive her close to insanity but, now, this? She couldn't believe it was actually happening. It wasn't like she could deny it any longer, though. She'd been thinking for weeks that it was stress or some other cause... but never this. Never a... baby. That word wouldn't come to her lips yet. The doctor had seemed so happy, so excited for her, saying she was a decent age to start a family, especially after she'd seen the wedding ring gracing Ayden's hand. But was Ayden herself ready for it? Don't get her wrong, she loved being Mrs. Turner now and listening to Caleb call her that at least once a day, but, a kid? An actual baby - their baby. It was surreal and so real and entirely too overwhelming for her to process it right now. But Cal deserved to know.
She took her time coming back from the hospital, using the excuse of going to the library to study as her cover for Caleb. He wanted to come with, like she knew he would, but she quickly started babbling on about how it was more of a private thing for her, especially since it was for a piano study and blah blah blah. He'd let her go after that with a kiss to her forehead, and her feeling more guilty by the second for lying to him. Hopefully, after he knew her reasoning behind it, he'd be alright with the white lie. Would he be alright with the fact that he was going to be a father, though? It scared her to find out. Their marriage and relationship was perfect right now, would a kid mess it all up?
Ayden took the steps up to their apartment slowly, breathing as calmly as she could. She couldn't be freaking out so much; this was supposed to be a happy thing, and it would be. There was no reason her and Cal couldn't raise a baby. Afterall, they were married. It wouldn't be improper or anything. Counting to three, she slowly unlocked the door and walked inside, dropping her purse on the counter and venturing father into the quaint place. She had to tell Caleb now before she lost the tiny bit of confidence she had. She found him in the kitchen, cooking what smelled like one of her favorite dishes, a trick he'd used the last time she'd seemed "in a funk." This time, however, alcohol physically couldn't be an escape option. Crap.
"I thought it was my turn to cook," she scolded playfully, strolling up to his side and kissing his cheek gently. With her face still close to his, Ayden hesitantly whispered, "Happy Father's Day, babe."
Had she seriously just done that?

Ayden hadn’t really been herself lately. It wasn’t an obvious funk like before, and anyone who didn’t know his darling wife well, wouldn’t have caught on. But he’d known her his whole life; there was no one else on Earth that knew Ayden as well as he did. He’d simply chalked it up to being stressed about school and work. Caleb had wanted to go with her to the library, but he knew what her music meant to her, so he’d stayed behind. Besides that, he had some things he needed to do for school, so after he’d kissed her forehead, she’d left and he’d gone straight to the drawing board; or in his case, the sewing machine.
It was a shame that he couldn't concentrate on what he'd had in mind, but he often got like that when he had a brilliant idea; he was always trying to make that great idea even better. And this time around, he was adding embellishments and then taking them away. After a little over an hour going nowhere, Cal gave up and went to the kitchen, with the thought of getting coffee, maybe a snack to hold him over and most importantly, time away from the sewing machine. But while he was checking out the fridge and cupboards for food, he noticed all the ingredients he'd need to cook one of Ayden's favourite meals. And since she'd been acting a little strange, he figured what a great way to cheer her up.
Cal checked the clock, trying to gauge how long it would be before Ayden walked through that door again. It took time to cook anyway, so he figured if she wasn’t back by the time the food was all done, he’d just put it in the microwave, or the stove to keep it warm. Cooking was something Cal actually liked doing, and since Ayden burned water, it was something he did often. It was also a mindless task for him. There wasn’t really anything he had to think about, just follow the directions, and make sure it didn’t burn to a crisp and have the fire department there like Ayden had a couple months back; talk about a surprise!
Dinner was almost done when Cal heard Ayden’s keys in the lock; damn near perfect timing. He didn’t worry about calling out, she’d find him soon enough and just kept stirring and checking the food. He’d been in an almost euphoric mood since she’d agreed to marry him. He was happier now than he’d ever been and smiled at the thought that he could now and forever call her Mrs. Turner. He shrugged a shoulder as he wrapped his free hand around her waist. “I figured you’d need food after the library,” he said, honestly, and he’d wanted to lift her spirits a little bit. He didn’t think cooking was all that big a deal, and from the playful manner Ayden said that, the young newlywed didn’t think his wife minded either.
Caleb was only half paying attention, because the food in front of him was almost done and he’d soon have to take it off the heat. He did catch her words, just not her meaning at first. His brows drew together quizzically. “It’s not Father’s da… Wait, what?” he asked, dropping the wooden spoon he’d been holding to mix the food. He turned and turned Ayden to face him. What did she mean by that? He wasn’t completely clued into the moment, so when she explained, he wanted to be facing her.

Ayden could honestly say she was, finally, happy with her life. She had the most amazing, wonderful husband in the world, school was going okay, work had given her a bit of a raise, and... life was just good. Or had been good. And now she was pregnant. She didn't quite know yet what to think of that little detail. All she wanted was to live peacefully and uneventfully with Caleb - to be normal for one tiny piece of time. But, no, they were going to be parents. They were going to have a baby.
She was 23, married, had a job, and was so close to graduating. Why couldn't she handle a baby? It was bound to happen eventually, especially with the way her and Cal often stayed... occupied for long periods of time. Ayden simply couldn't believe it. She, Ayden Karissa Steel, er, Turner was going to be having a baby with Caleb. It was a blissful moment, sure, but it was also so conflicting. What would he say about it all? He'd make a spectacular father, of that she was sure, but was she grown up enough to handle being called "Mommy" by a mini-version of him, or even her? She didn't know.
It was impossible not to cuddle up to Cal's side as his arm wrapped around her, and Ayden couldn't resist the temptation. His words, however, had guilt rearing its head inside of her once again. "Right. The library. Which is where I was," she said quickly, reaching up on her tip toes to peck his cheek. Lying was not her specialty, not after her big, huge ordeal last time. She'd definitely learned from her mistakes in that situation. But, now, she physically didn't know what to say in order to tell him. Talking to Caleb had never been an issue, not with almost everything her pretty little head came up with. Suddenly, though, a baby had her tongue tied.
Ayden bit her lip sharply as the spoon clattered on the stove top, and she quickly re-turned herself, not looking up into his eyes. She scooped up the spoon, stirring the food that seemed to be almost done. "And you yell at me for burning things," she tsked, chewing her lip harder. Ayden couldn't tell him; she didn't know what to say! She just... how do you tell someone they're going to be a father? And after everything they went through with her parents and the crap they'd taken for having a shotgun wedding? What did a person say? She inhaled deeply as the aroma of the food wafted fully through her nose. Ayden had expected the homey feeling this delicious meal always brought to her; but, to her surprise, it made her stomach churn in ways it never had before.
Letting the spoon drop where it may, Ayden sprinted out of Caleb's embrace and took off for the bathroom, her face turning greener by the second. She knelt down in front of the toliet, coughing and hacking and wondering what the hell had just happened. That was supposed to be one of her favorite things and it'd made her sick? What the - pregnancy. It had to be that. The baby was corrupting her body. Great. She swore under her breath, leaning back on her heels and closing her eyes, praying to whoever the heck would listen that this went away.
Being pregnant sucked. Seriously.

Since they’d sorted everything out with Ayden’s parents and all those issues, the young couple’s lives had been pretty damn good. Caleb certainly couldn’t complain. He could finally say Ayden was all his. He could grab her and plant a kiss on her whenever he pleased, he could pull her close to him and whisper in her ear, telling her how much he really loved her. He could honestly make a hobby out of calling her “Mrs. Turner” for the rest of his life. It was all so perfect Cal didn’t want it to change. They were so happy, and so good for each other, it was stunning to him, now that they were together, that it had taken so long. And all he could do was beat himself up over the fact that he should have told her sooner. Maybe if he had, everything that had happened to them would have happened sooner.
He loved how perfectly Ayden fit to his side when he held her close. They really were meant to be together. The only thing that would really make it so perfect was if they had a little mini version of Ayden running around the apartment. Of course, he didn’t think that would happen for a while yet, and was a thought that was so far in the back of his mind, it was basically nonexistent. Caleb couldn’t even laugh at the joke, his mind was too busy being completely blank, and yet it was working a mile a minute to really, truly figure out the meaning behind his little fire’s words.
Cal’s mind did snap back into reality though, when Ayden pulled away from his side and raced so fast out of the kitchen he swore he saw a smoke outline. He was seriously confused, and raced after her, wondering what the hell was wrong. Immediately, he figured it was stress because of school work and not having something done on time; that usually stressed him out. He followed her into the bathroom and knelt down beside her, unsure of the reason behind the sickness. He prayed she wasn’t catching cold or something that would have her holed up in bed for a week.
He rubbed her back in slow careful circles, hoping to make her feel better. A sick Ayden he could sort of deal with; especially since Sick Ayden had come out a couple times after night’s out with friends. “What’s wrong, Little Fire? Stress? Coming down with the flu?” he asked, trying uselessly to get a grasp of the situation. He was honestly very clueless. One minute she was picking up the spoon he’d dropped and stirring the food, the next she was racing through their apartment like it was the Indy 500’s track! Caleb kept rubbing her back though, not wanting to loose the contact, showing her he was still there, and would be until she was feeling better.

It wasn't like Ayden to get too sick, not unless she'd been out for a night of drinks and fun. And, even then, she usually didn't take off for the bathroom like that; she was smarter than that. If she puked outside of the bathroom, she'd be the one cleaning it up and, to put it lightly, she did not do well in those situations. This was a freak attack though; how was she supposed to know she'd vomit at a mere smell? She hadn't exactly done her research on pregnancy consequences seeing as she'd been denying being pregnant in the first place. Though, so far, she honestly wasn't enjoying it too much.
Ayden was 99% sure she was freaking him out. Heck, if he'd done this to her, she would've had a friggin' interrogation lamp out by now. But, she hadn't planned on the whole throwing up part of this and, if anything, it only made her more scared to tell him. She was a handfull enough as it was; her with moodswings, cravings, and who knows what else would be insane. She could use the excuse of being sick, though... it was an easy way out. He'd believe that, especially if she started having morning sickness routinely. Or would it only worry him more? She shook her head, gagging again as she opened her mouth to reply to him, say something to prove she wasn't going crazy. Instead, the poisonus stench filled her lungs again, bringing her breakfast even closer to re-appearing. She grabbed the candle she'd thrown on the sink how long ago and practically buried her face in it, breathing in the sweet scent to drown out the other.
Cal's hand on her back reminded her that she really needed to tell him what was going on, but also that he was here. He was as much a part of this as she was. Ayden snuggled into his chest, candle still pressed to her face. She said quickly, "G-Get the food out of here; it's making me-" The smell slammed through her again and she closed her eyes, warding off the twinge of green no doubt filling her cheeks. Seriously? Could she get through a sentence without possibly puking? Before her stomach could roar once again, Ayden sat up in Caleb's arms, looking him square in the face and saying, "Caleb, I'm pregnant." She then proceeded to turn back to the toliet, her lunch making its second showing of the day.

Caleb wasn’t sure what to do. Should he go get some medicine from the cupboard, or should he stay there until she stopping gagging and upchucking? His mind was racing with things he either needed to do, or should do. Most importantly, he should have really run back to the kitchen to turn off the stove before the fire department made another visit to their apartment. He was pretty sure those fine men and women wouldn’t be too pleased with the idea, and Caleb was on their side; he didn’t want to greet another one of them at his doorstep any time soon; not unless there was a fire in their building and it wasn’t coming from their kitchen anyway.
All he could do, though was sit there with Ayden and stay with her until she felt well enough to move to their room. He could search out the bucket and set it by the bedside, it wasn’t a big deal; hell, he’d even clean it all up afterward! Something he never did, because, well, vomit wasn’t his favourite thing in the world either, but he’d do it, if it made Ayden feel better. Caleb raised his brow, but didn’t say a word when Ayden reached for the scented candle she kept in there and practically shoved her face in it.
What the hell was wrong? Was it serious? Should he be calling an ambulance? She had seemed fine a couple minutes ago, before she’d reached for the food. But that was one of her favourite meals, surely that wasn’t the cause of all this trouble; it had to be something else, it just had to. Her next words stopped that thought dead in its tracks. Alright, so it was the food that was- wait, did she say pregnant?! She was… they were… Caleb’s mind went as white as snow; completely blanking for a second time in a matter of minutes. It was a damn good thing he was sitting down, or he would have dropped. As it was, his hand froze where it still was, on Ayden and just stared ahead, mind reeling with what she’d just said.
“You… We’re… Baby?” he managed to spit out incoherently. It wasn’t bad news; it was just that his mind sort of exploded with it. How did it happen? Okay, he wasn’t a complete dumbass, he knew how it happened, but a baby? Really? Yeah, they were married, in a shotgun wedding that took his parents a matter of minutes to be pleased about and hers to practically fight them over. They were ready right? Well, it wasn’t like that really mattered now, they had to be ready; they were having a baby. Caleb sat there, on the bathroom floor, with his wife reintroducing her lunch to the world, while he just stared blankly forward, trying to wrap his mind around everything. He didn’t move an inch, he didn’t blink, he didn’t think he even took a breathe for a moment or two; it was just that shocking of news. They were going to have a baby.

Okay, it wasn't the best situation to reveal that she was pregnant. Who was she kidding? This was the worst possible scenario. Her puking, him freaking out, and everything all around chaotic. No, this was not how she'd wanted it to happen. But now it was too late. Caleb knew and he was... sitting there. He seemed to be in a sort of shocked state, one that both confused and scared Ayden. Was he upset? Happy? As conflicted about it as she was? If she wouldn't have been vomiting, she would've asked him out right. Heck, this would be so much easier if she wasn't bent over a toliet.
"Caleb," she snapped, somewhat harsher than intended. "Get the food out of here." Ayden gagged once again, her head now beginning to pound. Ugh, this sucked. Of course, it was all just her luck that things would turn out like this, but she couldn't exactly prevent it now. "Please, Cal," she begged in the most pathetic voice she could muster up. This conversation wouldn't be going anywhere until that stench was miles away from her, which meant he'd probably still be staring at her blankly and in total shock until then.
This. Freaking. Sucked.
Ayden pushed herself up off the floor, candle still up her nose as she shakily walked out of the bathroom. She gulped down whatever was trying to escape her again, approaching the stove and dumping the vile smelling food into the trash. Thank gosh she'd sprung for the stench-proof bags last time they'd been shopping. She closed the lid on the trash, inhaling another breath of the sweet scented candle before letting out a held breath. The air still hung with the smell, but she could somewhat tolerate it. Pulling a lighter out of a drawer, she set the candle down and lit it, throwing the lighter back where it belonged once she was done. Much better.
Turning to see where Caleb had gone, Ayden sighed, "That is officially banned for the next nine months." If she even lasted that long.

He was okay. Right? Just a little shocked to the core for a minute or two. Caleb didn’t hear a word Ayden was saying. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he knew she was talking to him, and that same part of him wanted to move to help her feel better. But the rest of him seemed to be stuck or something, stunned into a frozen state. It took Ayden running from the bathroom, for Caleb to slam back into the present and really realize everything that had just happened. They were going to be parents. A huge grin spread across his face and he ran his hands over his face and through his hair before getting up off the bathroom floor and following Ayden back towards the kitchen.
He found her still in the kitchen, lighting that candle she’d had glued to her face. He chuckled when she turned around and spoke. There was going to be a hell of a lot of testing for figure things out. And on top of that, they had to start thinking all these things out. Caleb took two steps to reach Ayden and pulled her into his arms and held her tight. “We’re having a baby?” He asked, believing it, but still needing to hear the words again. It was amazing news. They hadn’t talked about having kids, but Cal had figured they would eventually; though he was thinking it would be after they had graduated and was on their feet financially.
There was a lot to think about; a lot to do. But for the moment, Cal held the love of his life in his arms and chuckled, “Should I just throw out everything in the fridge but the pickles and peanut butter?” he asked, trying to coax a smile from his lovely wife. He had money saved away from the designs he sold and the money his grandfather still kept sending them to keep them comfortable. It would all work out for them. “How do you feel about all of this Ay?” Cal asked carefully, pulling back to look into her eyes.

Ayden knew this was going to be hard, but, between the two of them, they could manage it. It'd be her, though, who this hit the hardest. She'd be the one who'd need a bit of time off of school next semester, who would have to study at home with a kid to feed every few hours, who would have to put life on hold for a few months to give birth to a child. She didn't mind... that much. Of course, she knew Caleb would be by her side throughout the entire thing; they were married, after all. But at the end of the day, she was the one who'd be changing the most. He'd only have to deal with a pregnant wife. However, Ayden, knowing him, was suspecting he'd be finding ways to stay home with her and dote over his little family. Lord help them if they had a girl; the poor kid would be spoiled to death.
From the huge grin spread across his face, Ayden could only hope he wasn't angry. She'd figured he'd be ecstatic. He'd be an amazing father, as she very well knew. "We're having a baby. The doctor's officially said so," she nodded back, giving him a happy smile in return. Of this entire ordeal, his face right now was worth it all. He looked so... happy. Wasn't she supposed to be the one glowing, not him?
Ayden slipped her arms up around his neck, just grinning up at him. She laughed, shaking her head. "From what just happened, I may get sick from those, too," she answered, reaching up to peck his lips. As he pulled back, she stepped out of his arms, hopping up onto the counter like she so often did when he cooked. His question had caught her off guard. Ayden hadn't planned on being asked how she felt about all of this; it was happening, she had to accept it, no matter what her feelings were about it. Biting her lip, she sighed, "I dunno yet." And, with that, she reached behind her to open a cupboard and pull out a container of Oreos, shoving three of them into her mouth. At least she had an excuse for her cravings now, right?

They were going to be great parents. Ayden was going to be a wonderful mother. He knew she probably had reservations about everything, because of what she’d just gone through with her own parents. But Cal promised himself that they would never be like that. There was just too much love between the two of them for their child, or eventual children to get them fighting. Money wasn’t important to Caleb, if they had it, perfect, if they didn’t, they’d make do, and make sure their child had everything their little heart desired. Cal already knew he was going to be the spoiling parent and Ayden would have to be the one to put her foot down. It would certainly be a change of pace; since it was usually Ayden running around and Caleb pulling her back in.
They weren’t going to be perfect; he was aware of that. This was a first for them, but they were going to be as good as any first time parents could be. He had so much faith in his beautiful wife to know he was right. Cal was ecstatic, completely elated. He tightened his grip on her, holding her closer to his chest and pressed his lips to her, not holding back any of the happiness, the love, none of it back. When he pulled away, he still had that stupid grin on his face. “I love you, Little Fire,” he said, pressing his lips to her forehead.
Cal’s chuckle turned into a full out laugh. “Sounds like we’ll be test driving some foods around here for the next little while,” he said, shaking his head. He watched Ayden jump up onto the counter like she always did; especially while he was cooking. He never really understood what was so fascinating about him cooking, but she apparently loved to watch him. Cal stood in front of her, his hands absently running circles just above her knees. He smirked, looking pointedly at the Oreo package. “Well, at least you have an excuse for your terrible eating habits,” he said, snatching a cookie free and biting into it.

There were going to be so many more changes around this little apartment. Ayden was both frightened and excited about them, but they'd work it out like they always did. People didn't stay best friends all their lives for nothing. This was all moving so quickly though that she was running out of places to turn to. One moment, she and Cal were dating peacefully, then engaged one night and married then next, and now they were having a baby. Life seemed to be speeding by these days! When the hell had she become an adult?
Being pregnant was going to have so many draw backs and she knew it. No more drinking, no more bars because of the smoke, no more of her favorite foods because, apparently, they made her sick, no more waking up without vomiting... and the list went on and on. Plus, she was going to turn into a whale. Now, Ayden wasn't totally about appearance but even she wouldn't be able to handle the whole during-and-post-pregnancy fat. Once that kid was out of her, she was renewing her gym membership and spending as much time as possible there. Part of her just wanted to go back to before life got complicated. Caleb's smile right now was slowly turning that desire around. And, even without the tell tale kiss, Ayden could've told you he was in bliss. "You'd better," she whispered back, burying her face in his chest and snuggling closer to him. "I love you, too."
She couldn't help another small laugh at his words. Food was going to be a testy subject for a while, that was a given. And, if she honestly wanted to, she could go on that stupid diet they had brochures for at the doctor's earlier. But, that meant depriving herself of even more things and, as selfish as it was, Ayden wasn't ready for that just yet. "That mean you'll cook for me more?" she asked, giving him a coy smirk and biting her lip to keep from giggling again. His hands on her legs felt nice and she took a moment to savour the feeling. But, her distraction cost her a cookie, which she gaped at. "Hands off!" she whined, giving him a cute pout. "Save those for the girl you got pregnant." Ayden couldn't hide her smile as she leaned over and kissed him again. Maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all.

There was so much to do around their apartment. They really had to decide which room would become a nursery. There were more doctors’ appointments and well, more than Caleb could even think about. They’d get it all done before the baby arrived, but then there was school, and work that had to be notified. Okay, no. He wasn’t going to over think the work that was going to have to go into planning this all out; he was simply going to enjoy the fact that his life was absolutely perfect right now, and to add a cherry to the sundae, they were going to have a little baby around the apartment soon. So what if they basically had to redecorate and baby proof the entire place. They had the a few months before all of that really needed to be done.
He was in awe. And he couldn’t get that ridiculously happy grin off his face. Everything between them was moving so fast, but it all felt so right; so perfect that Caleb couldn’t say much. Could life really get any better than this? He was saying that now, but he also knew there would be diapers and baths and a mess of toys all over the place as well. He didn’t mind one single bit though, and decided he was going to enjoy every minute of it, while trying his damnedest to keep Ayden as happy as possible. “Always,” he said, pressing his lips to the top of her head. He was so happy and excited. He’d had to take a minute to work through the shock of everything happening so fast but now that he was over it, he was ecstatic about it all.
Caleb pretended to think about that for a minute. “I think I could take over a couple extra shifts,” he said as if this were some sort of work schedule. Cal reached into the bag off cookies. “It takes two to tango, darling,” he said, popping the cookie in his mouth. When the cookie was gone, a wicked, crooked grin spread across his face as he returned her kiss. “Besides, I didn’t hear you complaining,” he added, kissing her again. He loved that he could do that now; it was still a little bit surreal, even though they were married and all. It was almost like at any minute, he’d wake up and find out it was all a dream and Ayden was asleep across the hall.

Giving the apartment a makeover was probably going to be one of the highlights of her next year. Ayden could tell you outright Cal would have most of the control over the process because, well, he just would. He was the one with the eye for color and such, and she merely picked things out that she liked, whether they went together or not. And, if they were having a girl, boy, was she in for a rude awakening. She herself was female, yes, but her childhood had consisted of dirt, mud, and sports; not dolls, pink dresses, and hair ties. All of the decorating and fashion and such that came with a girl would most definitely be left to her darling husband. But, if they had a boy, he'd be Mama's pet until the day he moved out.
Caleb's grin was causing Ayden to relax more. He was glad they were going to become parents; heck, he was ecstatic about it. They'd never really talked it over before, so his reaction had been one of her biggest worries. They were still in school, tight on money most months, and both were busier than they cared to admit. But, despite all of that, he was happy. Which, naturally, meant she'd be happy herself. "You say that now. Wait until I'm crabby and screaming at you to go get me food in the middle of the night," she joked, reaching up to kiss him again. Ayden wrapped her arms gently around his neck, smiling brightly and looking up at him for a long moment. "We're having a baby," she sighed happily. It hadn't truly been real until this very moment. They, the newly married couple, were having a baby. They were going to be parents.
"Only a couple?" she pouted as he stole more of her cookies. However, the effect was ruined by her smirking and trying to hide a giggle. Hooking one of her legs around him, Ayden pulled him closer to herself, lust sparkling in her eyes. "Maybe we should try more often. I'm sure you'll hear it eventually," she whispered, kissing him back. Her lips moved with more passion than before. This time, the kiss wasn't simple and innocent; there was more behind it than that.

Later, much later, they were going to have to sit down and figure everything out, make lists and measure walls and spaces. Cal wasn’t just a pretty face, he was handy around the house in more than just house cleaning and cooking. He could fix a creaky door. Though fixing a creaky door didn’t exactly compare to redecorating one room for a nursery, nor did it equate child-proofing the entire apartment, but it was close enough. He’d never thought about kids, but now that it was on his mind, Caleb wanted a little girl. Not because he wanted to play overprotective father, because that job would be taken by mommy. She was the firecracker, and he already knew she’d be the one at the door with a shot gun when their baby girl went on her first date, or brought a boy home to meet them.
Really, he didn’t care if their baby was a little boy or a little girl. He just wanted them to be healthy and happy and everything clichéd about having kids. If they had a little girl, he could dress her up and make little clothes for her. If they had a little boy, Ayden would have a field day teaching him basketball and all sorts of sports. They were an odd couple, switching roles with their kids. Though it wasn’t much of a stretch when he grew up in his mother’s boutique and she grew up playing in the mud and dirt.
Caleb laughed, kissing Ayden’s forehead. “Baby, that happens now. There wouldn’t be much of a difference except you’ll be wanting weird things instead of the usual,” he reminded her, though he wasn’t running out at three am for pints of Ben and Jerry’s. That was probably going to change, but since they usually had a couple pints stocked in the freezer, it wouldn’t be a problem. What would be was finding a McDonald’s that was still open so his hormonal wife could have that double big Mac she wanted a four in the morning. He gathered her up in his arms and swung her around a couple times. “We’re having a baby,” he repeated, making it more and more real every time the words were said. “You are going to be a great mommy, Ayden,” he whispered against her temple, holding her tight.
Caleb shook his head, smiling. “The term was loosely used, sound fair?” he said, laughing. He would take all the shifts if it were possible, but he knew his boss wouldn’t allow that, so he’d take on whatever extra shifts he could get his hands on. Caleb was taken off guard a little bit when she pulled him against her but he couldn’t say that he minded at all. “I doubt it, but I’m more than willing to try,” he said, lifting her right off the counter. He knew their apartment’s layout with his eyes closed. He easily moved them to the couch. He pulled away just enough to speak. “We should really get in that practice time, don’t you think?”
