Fallon laughed, remembering when Myles was officially part of the NYPD. He was flashing that badge to everyone, including herself at least a dozen times. Even now, being a cop was part of his pickup lines. “Now see, that makes sense. Though I positive he would do that now, given the chance,” Fallon said, shaking her head. She nodded, “Until he’s on his very last pair of basically everything.” There were times Fallon though Myles’ wardrobe was bigger than hers. He seemed to have so much clothing. “You have to admit, with the way you talk about your mom, she had to be a teacher of some sort. The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree,” she said, poking his side. “Tell me more?” she asked, sincere this time. Gabe spoke of his mother often and fondly but it wasn’t enough for Fallon. She wanted to know more about his family.
She hadn’t thought he would take her taunt seriously enough to give her what she asked for. Fallon kept quiet but her eyes widened a fraction at all he knew. She really hadn't thought he knew so much about her. She opened her mouth to speak but Gabe kept on so she had no other choice than to stay quiet. And there was definitely more than one thing. How was it she was so unaware of how much he really knew? When he was finished, she stayed quiet for a minute longer, processing it all. “Well,” she started, with a spark of mischief in her eye. “First of all I do not talk in my sleep,” she said, running her hands up his arms and grinning. “Second, I absolutely love you,” she whispered. “And third, I’m not scared anymore,” she finished, pressing her lips to his softly, lingering for a few extra seconds. She pulled away an inch or two smiling.
She had to get a little grip on herself. Gabe had shaken her more than she’d let on knowing he knew so much. But she loved that he could surprise her like that. And she was really thankful that she wasn’t a crier now, or there would be at the very least misty eyes. “Do you really want to go there?” she asked, narrowing her eyes slightly, grabbing his hand this time. Fallon sent Gabe a very bland glare. “Myles couldn’t find his way out of a corn maze Halloween of junior year. How is the man supposed to find his way through my closets?” she asked, well aware of the plural she’d used, and wondered if Gabe caught on as well. She had more than one in the two floor apartment, and with the clothes, shoes and things she had, each one of them were in use. Fallon crossed her arms, looking away from Gabe. “So much for believing in me and my abilities,” she said sounding upset by the news. “A moment longer means a few degrees hotter,” she muttered, still putting on the act on sad and annoyed. Fallon quickly left her fake funk behind though. Nodding her head, she said, “I didn’t mean all the time, just when they would be more convenient, like cooking,” she said, hoping down from the counter top to get a bottle of wine from the bar and let it breathe.
She wasn’t sure which would go better off hand but she had a bottle of white she’d been meaning to try. She opened the bottle, before setting it on the bar top and grabbing a couple glasses. The wine wouldn’t have as much breathing time as she’d like but since she wasn’t a big fan of the stuff in the first place, who was she to decide how long it should air out? “Really, you mean it?” she asked, perking up at the mention of actually being able to eat. She was starving and surprised her stomach wasn’t protesting in the lack of food, too! She set the glasses down on the table, pouring the wine before setting the bottle down and sitting down herself. The food in front of her smelled too good and picking up her fork, Fallon took a tentative bite of the hot meal. She closed her eyes, savouring. “You mother is a genius,” Fallon said, opening her eyes again to look up at Gabe.

Myles actually did make a good cop, call things considered. The way he lived his life he was probably the last person anyone would expect to have a badge, but he did and he took his work seriously, even if that was the only part of his life that wasn’t a giant joke to him. “You know Myles; that badge is his pride and glory, his baby.”
Gabe teased, shaking his head as he spoke about his roommate. “I think then he just goes out and buys more.” Gabe still had some of the old sweaters and cardigans that he had owned since college that he wore until they had been entirely stretched out of shape by the machine and the sleeves were getting just about ready to fall off, but Myles renewed his wardrobe several times a year for reasons that Gabe simply didn’t understand. He shrugged lightly, brushing the hair from his face as he checked over everything. “She taught me most of the stuff I know.” At least when it came to the classics; everything else he picked up from books and articles over the years. He glanced across at Fallon and smiled softly, happy that she wanted to hear more about his mom and the rest of his family. “What exactly do you want to know?” He asked her, entirely clueless about where to begin. What Gabe had told her was only a little bit of what he had picked up on over the seven years they had known each other for. There were plenty of other things he had noticed too, but he was saving them so that he could use them later without Fallon reminding him that he had told her it several times before. He wanted to keep surprising her whenever she set him up like that just because he loved to see her reaction to it all. “You were mumbling about the ocean when I woke up earlier.” He told her, raising his eyebrow as though he was silently asking her to explain how that could’ve happened if she didn’t talk in her sleep. “And I’m glad, because I love you too much to lose you to fear.” He smiled, brushing her hair from her face and kissing her sweetly, making sure not to get too carried away since he was cooking. He smirked, wiggling his fingers in her hold as he tried not to laugh. “Two can play at that game and you know it.” He reminded her, prying his hand free from hers and stepping back to check over the food. “Give him some credit; he’d been drinking since breakfast. We were out of milk so we put JD with the cereal.” It was typical Frat antics, but it had set the day off to an odd start and nearly all of them were unable to hold themselves up by the time the night rolled around. “And, the man gets paid to do this sort of thing now. Your closets would probably give him a brilliant time. Just think; Myles going through everything you own…” He hid the smirk well, leaving Fallon to envision what might happen if Myles found some of the things she probably had tucked away in drawers or at the back of her closets. He merely chuckled at her sulk and shook his head. Gabe knew that she was only fooling about and he wasn’t going to rise to the game, not when there was cooking requiring his attention and there was a big chance that they wouldn’t eat at all if he responded to her ‘bad mood’. “Yeah, ‘cause I’m really about to change my eyewear just to cook a meal. It’s too much hassle, especially when all I need to do is wipe my glasses clean; a task that takes less than five seconds.” He said, calling after her as she moved to get the bottle of wine. Rolling his eyes, he smirked across at his girlfriend. “You make it sound like I deliberately starved you. May I remind you that you were the one who decided not to order pizza when we first got here.” He wasn’t complaining at all, but it was the reason why both of them felt hungrier than they ought to right now. Chuckling at her reaction, Gabe shook his head, taking a small bite himself, careful not to burn his mouth. “I’ll let her know, but I don’t recall her cooking this meal.” He said, pretending to be hurt that none of the complimentary credit had been aimed at him. Back in college when Fallon had been introduced to all the Pi Kappa Phis, it had been at one of their numerous parties. So Fallon had seen firsthand how party ready the group was; especially Myles who grew to be one of her better friends of the guys; though she adored them all. Needless to say Fallon had hardly believed the lot when she’d been told all their majors. There were a few she could picture easily enough, but Myles’ threw her without a doubt. “I thought his baby was his car,” Fall said, raising a brow, smirking. Fallon always thought she went overboard with the spending. She had money, and it had never been that big of a deal, but she hardly updated her wardrobe with the change in seasons. Hell, she still had sweaters and t-shirts from high school. “And here I was all this time thinking my shopping habits were bad,” Fall said, rolling her eyes. She was absolutely an impulse shopper. She went for one thing and walked out of the store with four bags. It almost never failed, but at least she could claim to get use out of what she bought!
Fallon had always been a little jealous of the friends she had that had siblings. She knew they all complained about them and wished they had never been born some days but coming from her perspective, that was much better than not having anyone around to play with. Yes, she’d been on sets growing up and she’d learned a ton of things, made so many friends, and she knew she was lucky to have the childhood she’d had; she was grateful for it, but it hadn’t stopped her from wondering what it was like to have someone around she could share her secrets with; like crushes and the silly things you shouldn’t be able to tell your parents. But Fallon had only had Trevor and they were close, she could tell him anything at all and still did. It didn’t beat having a sister to talk to or a brother to protect her from bullies; or a mom, a real mom around to bake with or have arguments about curfew with. The Hollywood blonde just shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know,” she said looking up at the ceiling to think of something to ask. “What was it like having her around growing up?” She asked, not quite looking at him. It was the first time she’d ever even hinted at not having her mom in the picture; though she thought maybe everyone just assumed the woman was dead since Fallon only ever talked about Trevor.
Shaking all that off, Fallon honestly wanted to mist up a little bit. But she wasn’t a crier and so thankful for that. His next words caught her off guard again, and her eyes widened at the detail of the ocean. She had been dreaming about the waves crashing against the shore just outside her California home; waking up to the obvious morning after a great party. It was a memory from their sophomore year. Gabe had passed out at the foot of her bed and for the life of her she couldn’t remember if she’d even bothered trying to move him. Nor had she cared. She’d tried in the morning though, when at some point during sleep, he’d moved and had thrown a leg over her petite frame. It was the summer and the last week of finals; no more tests or exams. And Trevor had been away on a work holiday so the house had been empty aside from her. So even more reason to celebrate! “I was dreaming about sophomore year, actually. End of finals, a summer free,” Fallon said, airily but sort of truthfully, wondering if he remembered the night, or rather, the morning. It had been the first time she’d woken up wrapped up in Gabe. She couldn’t believe she was just remembering that now. “You would come up with something to keep me from running,” she said, leaning in for another light kiss, mindful of the food cooking around them.
“Ah, but only one can win, and that love of my life, would be me,” she said, grinning, dropping her free hand to her lap again and continued to idly kick her feet. Fall rolled her eyes. “As if that is any excuse! You all lived in a frat house! Half the guys in that house went to classes still drunk! I had one of them in my classes!” she pointed out, knowing that drinking before dawn wasn’t something out of the norm for the group of guys she adored. “Still, if it I leave the shower with Myles in my house, that costume will never see the light of day again. I’ll burn it,” she warned, though how much meaning she put in that was still undecided. She loved the guy, but she also didn’t want him snooping around in her closets, cupboards and drawers all the same. “Just a suggestion, not a debate or demand!” She called from the bar, grinning. Sitting at the table, Fallon stabbed her fork in Gabe’s direction. “No, I had suggested we order pizza, let the pizza guy get the show of his young life and eventually eat the pizza cold,” she reminded him, laughing. “You suggested cooking later,” she added. Obviously with the pizza sitting on the table between them, she’d won. “No, but she is the genius that taught you to cook this meal. Without her we'd be eating that cold pizza,” she said, smiling innocently. She reached over to pat his forearm. “It’s fantastic, and telling you such will just add to the ego you’re developing and we mustn’t have that,” she teased, taking another bite.

Most of the people Gabe had befriended during his college years were either Pi Kappa Phi brothers or were regulars at the countless parties that took place on Greek Row. There were a few friendly faces from his major, but they were surprisingly fleeting friendships and dissolved once graduation was over and done with. Nowadays, his closest friends were those he called brothers and there was nothing going to break those bonds since they had been formed in the Frat house Gabe sometimes found himself missing. “Clearly he has more than one.”
Gabe joked with a soft shrug. Myles did have the kind of personality that sent him overboard from time to time, but he knew that the CSI simply enjoyed living his life now that he had earned it. Gabe, on the other hand, used his wages to pay his share of the bills and lived mostly off of his loans and the grant he had been offered to complete his PhD at NYU. Once that was over then he could make more of a living, but money was something that never really interested him. His family had enough to live comfortably, and his dad worked for himself from the clinic on the ranch he called a home, but Gabe had never been one for lavish spending on himself. He didn’t see the point in it really and most of his money probably went on books. “Yours are bad enough. There’s a reason I stopped going shopping with you a long time ago.” He told her with a false shudder. Gabe’s relationship with his brothers had always been on the good side. Of course, they had their share of arguments and falling outs as they grew up, especially with Gabe being pretty hopeless at all sports aside from swimming when the older Fitzpatrick boys were the stereotypical jocks. Still, they got along well enough that Gabe knew if he needed them now they would be in the city in a heartbeat for him. His closest relationships had been with his mom and his gramps and they were probably still like that now. His gramps taught him all the magic tricks that had earned him the nickname from the guys and his mom was the reason he was in New York doing what he was doing. He smiled sadly at Fallon’s question. He never knew the details of her own parentage because he had always thought it too rude to ask. Like the reason behind the break up with Brad, he believed she would tell him in her own time, if she wanted to. He still answered her question though, keeping his answer brief. “Well, without her I wouldn’t have fell in love with the classics or anthropology. She got me into it all and taught me to persevere with it, no matter what.” He smiled at the memories of being in her study, sitting on the carpet, reading her books whilst she graded papers. Then he thought forward, to the night of the accident and the aftermath. Without realising it, his hand lowered towards his left knee where the rough scar still lingered as well as the weakened tendons and ligaments. “She was an inspiration.” He almost whispered, remembering how well she took it all after she became paralysed. Gabe didn’t have nightmares often, but when he did, they centred around the crash and what could’ve happened. He didn’t talk about it and given his clumsy nature, people rarely asked him about his knee, suspecting it was just another one of those things when it came to the skinny scholar. Even Myles only found out about it when he accompanied Gabe to Nebraska and learnt about his mom’s disability. Gabe didn’t enjoy talking about it and his mom didn’t let it hinder her life, so he didn’t like to point it out to people; being in a wheelchair didn’t change who she was or what she did. Gabe had to laugh as she recalled the dream of the party he had forgotten about until now. Sometimes, the end of year ones were the best and yet they were also the ones people talked about the least. He did remember it though, well bits of it. He spent most of that particular night playing beer pong and doing drinking games with his brothers, since it had been a while since they’d let loose like that thanks to finals hindering their partying lifestyle at the time. His eyebrows furrowed as a few more blurry details came back to his mind and he looked at Fallon with a confused expression, trying to pry the facts from the fiction. “Didn’t we sleep together that night? Well, not sleep together, but just normal sleep together?” He had this memory of curling up next to the petite blonde, but that could very well be a dream, given his feelings for her back then were pretty strong and hadn’t yet been pushed to the back of his mind, out of the way. Grinning, he wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her close. “Mm, like shackles.” He joked, brushing his lips against hers lightly. Now that they had crossed this line and become the couple everyone apparently expected them to become, Gabe had no intention of letting her get away from him. He shook his head, laughing to himself as he turned back to deal with the simple meal he was preparing for the both of them. “That was usually because our parties didn’t wrap up until classes were about to begin, not because we switched our milk for liquor.” He said, adjusting his glasses. He hadn’t been one of the guys who slurred his way through a class or two, normally much more in control of himself than his brothers. Of course, there had been nights when he had been propped up but they were usually his birthday or whenever he had a reason to celebrate; just a slight buzz was usually enough for him. Laughing again, he shook his head and moved back to his girlfriend, running his hands along her legs softly. “I promise that I won’t let Myles search through your things unless he has a legitimate warrant.” He swore, pecking her lips quickly. Rolling his eyes, Gabe threw Fallon one of his trademark looks of ‘whatever’. “Cold pizza is a breakfast dish, not a dinner one.” He stated before shaking his head once more. “Food was not what either of us was thinking at that point and you know it.” He reminded her, gesturing back to the couch where they had finally surrendered to what they both wanted, this time as two sober people. Swallowing his food, Gabe shot his girlfriend a look before wrapping his fork around more of the pasta. “Please, my ego is microscopic and it’ll probably stay like that. Even if you do get jealous of waitresses who think I’m cute.” Like the joke about the pancakes, Gabe couldn’t resist, still in shock that Fallon might actually be jealous of the girls he had dated in the past. Fallon’s smirk had hardly left her lips before it was back again. “Let’s hope the others don’t find out, or the only things safe will be the badge and the car,” she said, hinting at the many girls in his life. She wasn’t saying anything bad about Myles, she loved the man dearly, but sometimes she felt like his womanizing habits were going to get the better of him one of these days. She hoped for them all it never happened but it was getting easier to see someone knocking on the door and when Myles or Gabe finally answered it all that would be there is an adorable little baby, a bag and a note addressed to Myles. If she wasn’t there, she would probably get a call being the only stable woman either of them knew in the city aside from Myles’ fellow cop and Fallon’s only girlfriend, Devon. Fall quirked a brow. She’d heard plenty of reasons behind why Gabe stopped going with her when she went shopping. “I always thought it was because I dragged you to five stores searching out that pair of red peep-toe pumps for the premiere,” she said, grinning. She knew how bad she could get when she had her heart set on something and she couldn’t find it. She didn’t have a stylist or an assistant to run around LA finding these things for her; it was all on her.
Fallon had had a good childhood, despite not having her actual mother in the picture, there were plenty of female role models about that there wasn’t much that had been left out. Sure she’d never played team sports with any league, but she did get all sorts of lessons on sets; some of which she actually kept up with after that particular movie was over with, like piano. Would it have been nicer if her mother could look at her without turning on the water works, yes, but it had been that way so long now that it really didn’t bother Fallon as much as it should; as in not at all. Trevor had basically taken custody when she’d been a toddler. For as long as the Hollywood blonde could remember, it had always been just her and Trev. It had gotten to the point when it was easier to tell people she didn’t have a mom than it was to explain things. But she’d always been interested in everyone else’s family dynamic, to see how it differed from hers. Gabe came from a big, loving family. Fallon gripped the side of his shirt, listening to what he said, smiling at the image he created. “She sounds like a wonderful woman. I’m sorry I missed meeting her when I was supposed to help you move up here,” she said, smiling. She knew eventually she’d have to tell Gabe about her life before college but she was in too good a mood to ruin it with the whole ”My mom can’t go five minutes being in the same room with me” speech she had mentally written out since she was ten and was cornered by some kids at a playground. She’d managed to get out of that just saying “she isn’t around anymore” but she didn’t want to be left scrambling the next time it happened. Thankfully, she’d never had to use the speech, a good thing since it was quite blunt, but she had it readily available all the same.
There had been plenty of parties in the four years they all attended UCLA. But none of them before that finals party in sophomore year did they find themselves curled up together. It had taken Fallon a few days after that party to really get a complete grasp of what her hung over mind filtered through as a blurry dream. She realized that morning when she’d woken up that she was curled into Gabe’s side like she’d belonged there or something but shortly after that she’d suppressed the memory, probably unconsciously too afraid of what it really meant. Fallon nodded, helping as best she could to put puzzle pieces back together for the scholar. “Mm, yeah, we did,” she said grinning. Too bad she’d been in an unknowingly fake relationship back then; they could have saved themselves five or six years of unintentional heartbreak. Fallon laughed against Gabe’s lips. “Well, we do know someone who owns a pair of cuffs,” she said teasing. Now that she’s admitted to her feeling for Gabe she wanted to be cliché and shout it from the rooftops. It was seven years in the making; surely she was allowed to indulge in silly little fantasies like that.
“It doesn’t matter how the alcohol got into the system, it was there!” she argued. Despite being able to hold her alcohol quite well, she always cut herself off before the sun rose, especially if she had any class at all the next day. What she did in class got back to Trevor whether she wanted it to or not, so she had to be alert and coherent during her classes. Fallon’s grin was anything but sweet and sugary. “You better or that bat won’t just be collecting the cops’ blood,” she threatened though they were empty words and Gabe could probably see right through it. “Let’s be honest here, there’s never a bad time for cold pizza,” she said laughing. In college she used to order pizza and never actually get around to eating it while it was still hot during finals and midterms. It was always easier to order takeout than it was to make something when her time was better spent studying. And they had a gym on campus and at her house; she could study while she burned those extra calories off. And he was right, of course. Food was the last thing on her mind when they’d gotten to the apartment. She had been too nervous at first to be hungry and then she’d been too into Gabe.
Fallon narrowed her eyes. If he thought his ego was microscopic after that remark, he needed a reality check, though if she were being honest, he probably deserved the larger ego for that one event; but just the one. “If that were the case, I’d be a hell of a lot more annoyed than I was. It’s only the waitresses that act on those thoughts that bother me thank you very much. And I would like to point out, I was sitting right there! If anything, she should have assumed we were together,” she said, before realizing she was ranting about it and stopped herself by shoving another forkful of noodles into her mouth and chewing. Apparently partying frat boys could see they liked each other, how couldn’t that waitress? Was she as blind as Fallon had been, or was she just a selfish, uncaring skank of a home wrecker? Fal ran her fingers over her hair, pushing any and all thoughts of that skank out of her mind. Gabe could tease her all he wanted about it but she wouldn’t be annoyed by it anymore; after all, she was the one who won his heart in the end. With that in mind, Fallon happily continued eating her pasta, because she had won, and her prize was so much better than she could have ever pictured.

Gabe chuckled, nodding his head in agreement. “Oh, believe me; that is a conversation we have had.”
Gabe didn’t criticise Myles’ lifestyle very often because he didn’t feel as though he had a right to, but they had spoken about it on occasion, mainly when Gabe thought Myles had done something so foolishly reckless that it would come back to haunt him. Myles might have enjoyed playing the field, but he wasn’t stupid; he took all the necessary precautions, avoided involved women and kept it safe. Myles wasn’t ready for someone to be calling him daddy and Gabe knew that. He didn’t want something to come along and ruin his friend’s life when he had the potential for something amazing once he chose to settle down with the right woman. “That too.” He said with a nod, checking things over again. “I have nightmares about those shoes, still.” Shuddering, Gabe checked everything over once more and then turned back to his girlfriend. “I’m the guy who has about three stores I go into whenever I need something and I will find what I need in those three stores and then my shopping is complete, I can grab a coffee and go home and read something new.” He explained for the millionth time, though he acted like it was the first. He knew Fallon knew this already, but he liked to reiterate his point about shopping with the California blonde. Gabe was lucky. He still had both of his parents and his gramps in his life, as well as his two older brothers. The only tragedy that had ever befallen the family was the car accident that had almost destroyed Gabe’s leg and had cost his mother her mobility. In many ways, it could’ve been much, much worse. Both of them were still alive and able to live their lives with only a very little change to keep them all going. Gabe didn’t take that for granted, not one bit. There were people a lot worse off than they were; his mom’s favourite line after she found herself in a wheelchair. He smiled down at the tiny blonde in his arms and kissed her forehead softly. “You’ll get to meet her soon. She’s heard all about you.” He told her, deciding not to go into the details of the conversation he had had with her during his week-long escape to Nebraska. His mom wouldn’t hate Fallon for what had happened once he explained how foolish both of them had been in the first place and she already seemed to have a strong liking for the mystery blonde after hearing Gabe talk about her since his freshman year at UCLA. Plus, there were still a few photos back in his room that including Fallon and his Fraternity brothers. Really, the only thing that was left was for the two women to meet face to face. Gabe had photo albums full of photos from the countless parties that came with the college lifestyle and most of them he couldn’t even begin to explain. Also, in several of them he was either shirtless, getting carried about by someone or doing something so foolish that he could envision Fallon just off the edge of the frame shouting at him about breaking something. They pretty much were the stereotypical shots of life on Greek Row, but there were so many memories that weren’t captured on film, like the one coming back to him now after Fallon mentioned it and the dream she had had. “Hm, no wonder the brothers were placing bets on us then.” Someone, most likely Myles, had probably seen them curled up together during the drunken staggering to the bathroom or something and that would definitely have set the Pi Kappa Phis up for what sounded like the most notorious betting pool of their graduating class. Chuckling, he kissed her softly. Now, waking up curled in each other’s arms wouldn’t be such a surprise anymore. “I’d rather not know what he gets up to with those cuffs.” Gabe joked, wincing as though the thought itself was sour. “When wasn’t there alcohol in their systems?” He asked rhetorically with a slight smirk. He really didn’t think there was one single day where the whole house could proudly state that they were sober. Even if there wasn’t a party being thrown, there was always someone going out on the town or drinking down at the beach bar after a few hours of surfing. Each breakfast was served with a hungover Frat boy of some description and that was the norm. Laughing, his pushed his glasses up his nose and shook his head. “I have a violent girlfriend, wonderful! Besides, do you really think I’d be cool with Myles going through your things, even if he is my best friend?” He threw her a look and then smirked. Raising his hand as though this was some sort of official debate, Gabe spoke up again. “There is when you could be having a lovely, home cooked hot meal, courtesy of your boyfriend.” He joked, knowing it made little sense really. Gabe had to bite the inside of his mouth to stop the laughter from erupting. He found it cute that Fallon had been so jealous of Kelli and hearing her ramble on about it now was even cuter. He wanted to just pull her into his lap and cuddle her close, all the while chuckling at what she was saying. “I think the insults we were playfully hurling at each other might’ve given it away.” He joked. He loved their relationship and the banter they shared as friends and as a couple. Really, the only thing that was different that day to now was that they weren’t wrapped up in each other or stealing kisses at every opportunity. Being around the guys of Gabe’s frat house and given Fallon something she’d never had before; brothers. Even if she wasn’t technically one of them, she was. She would have done anything for any one of them with little to no questions asked. But it was knowing them that had Fallon knowing exactly what they were like. Had her knowing how Myles could get, even though he was practically a saint a work, putting in extra hours to solve a case or helping with one that wasn’t his. She admired him his work ethic, but not exactly his lifestyles despite saying after Brad she would never settle for anyone. But of course, Gabe wasn’t just anyone. He’d been there through it all, and had loved her in spite of it all. “Just the fact that he needed that conversation shouldn’t shock me and yet,” she said, shaking her head. Fall wanted to roll her eyes. As if hunting down a pair of fantastic shoes was cause for shuddering and fear. Fallon just crossed her arms across her chest and waited for the spiel to come to an end before she opened her mouth to say anything at all. She’d heard the lecture a million times now but it had never stopped her from trying to get him to go with her to keep her company. “Well, you’re a guy. Most guys hate having that many stores to shop at. But I’m not starting up this conversation with you again. You’re too frustrating,” she said, stopping herself from going any further and getting caught in that trap again.
Fallon worried her lip. She could only guess what Gabe had told his mother on that little trip home. "None of it was probably any good. God, she’s going to hate me," she said into his chest, wrapping her arms around his waist. It wasn’t even just this past couple of weeks she was talking about. They had known each other for seven years. That was seven years of bad ideas, stupid ideas, brilliant ideas, unintentional heartbreak, laughter and tears. Hell, she was pretty sure there had been a few fights start because of her. And she was nearly positive she was the reason behind more than a few of Gabe’s scrapes, cuts and bruises in those seven years; at least the first four. Sighing, she lifted her head from her boyfriend’s chest but not looking at him. This was the first step to telling him everything. “Remind me to tell you about my life before UCLA. It’s not nearly as fantastic as everyone thinks,” she said, smiling, though it was pretty weak. Still, she didn’t want to ruin the mood or the moment, so she kept it at that.
There were photo albums all over the place in two different states chronicling different times in Fallon’s life. There were at least three just from when she was a toddler! Apparently good old Uncle Trevor had fancied himself a photographer when she’d been a baby. And he hadn’t lightened up much from the amount of them that Fallon knew of! Eventually though, she’d turned into the camera happy one, snapping up photos of basically everything when she was out with friends so she would always remember the trips, nights and parties. She kept most of the ones from UCLA in New York with her and a few from growing up but for the most part, everything had stayed back in California with Trevor. ”It all makes sense now,” she said, rolling her eyes. She distinctly remembered having to open the door that morning, so if anyone had just simply walked past, they wouldn’t have seen a thing. They would have had to actually open the door but anything was possible with the boys of Pi Kappa Phi. Fallon leaned back enough to look into Gabe’s eyes with a mischievous grin on her lips and a spark in her eyes. “Who said I was talking about Myles?” She asked him, raising a brow. She had been, of course. She had been many things for Halloween through the years but a cop or anything that had to do with a pair of cuffs was not on that list.
She wanted to answer that question. A snarky reply was right there at the tip of her tongue all she had to do was open her mouth and let the words fly, but she wouldn’t. The guys were all never sober at the same time. She had practically lived there during the school year for four years and not once did she ever see every single one of them sober all at once; even the ones who were still getting their feet wet, straight out of high school and not sure what the hell they wanted to do with their lives. “Oh, please as if that’s a news flash,” she said grinning. “But no, I know you wouldn’t let him,” she said. Fallon snapped her fingers, as if he were on to something. “And it’s just a shame I didn’t have one of those back then! A real one at any rate,” she said, rolling her eyes. She could joke about it all now, though she still didn’t want to do that. It was the past for a reason; there shouldn’t have been a need to go back to it. “That’s how this relationship works. I make fun of you, you tease me,” she said, starting to bite and empty fork. She had it half way to her lips before she realized it had no food on it. “And I would like to point out the playfully you said just now,” she muttered, putting the fork, with food on it this time to her mouth.

Gabe knew that Myles probably had his head screwed on enough to be careful with the way he lived his life, but that didn’t stop the scholar from worrying like he normally did. He just didn’t want to see his friend wind up doing something that ruined the life he had planned out so specifically. “And you’re not the one who’s lived with him for so long.”
Gabe really had seen some things that had forced him to do a double take or shake his head. Myles was definitely an odd one at times and one of Gabe’s most vivid memories was his roommate walking into their kitchen about a year ago wearing a baby pink kimono that belonged to the girl he had shared a brief fling with. Some mornings left Gabe wishing he hadn’t put his glasses on yet so that everything would be so hazy he could pass it all off as a dream. Just like he wished he could pass the shopping trips with Fallon off as a dream. He couldn’t remember just how many times they had had this conversation, but he knew exactly how it went before they even had to start it up. Gabe could enjoy shopping if he or the person he was with wasn’t looking for something so oddly specific, but he couldn’t stand going around several stores looking for one specific thing in just the right colour. “Oh, I’m ‘frustrating’ am I? Well, I’ll remember that and mark my words; I shall have my revenge.” He said with a devilish smirk and a mischievous twinkle in his dark eyes. He chuckled softly, unable to control himself as Fallon seemed to try to bury herself in his torso. He curled his finger under her chin to look down into her blue eyes before kissing her softly. “Don’t be ridiculous. My mom’s been asking when she’d get to meet you since the summer between freshman and sophomore year.” He said truthfully, shaking his head at the memory. His mom had found Fallon on many of the photographs from the year and had asked Gabe all about her and if she would get to meet the girl who was around so much. Maybe his mom was in on that Pi Kappa Phi bet, now that Gabe thought back to those days and the way she would mention Fallon’s name in some sort of knowing manner. He really must’ve been obvious to everyone other than the blonde he now held in his arms. “And, yeah, she knows about what happened to an extent, but believe me; she’ll laugh and call me an idiot and that’s the most she’ll do.” She wasn’t exactly the sort to hold a grudge and Gabe knew that she definitely wouldn’t hate Fallon over something so silly like the pair of them being blind to their own feelings. He kissed her lightly again and smiled, brushing some hair from Fallon’s face and nodding. “Whenever you’re in the mood to reminisce about it.” He said, knowing that there must’ve been a reason for her not speaking about it in the last seven years. He didn’t want to force her into telling him now, even if he was curious. When Fallon did accompany him back home to Lincoln, Nebraska, Gabe had no doubts that his mother would soon have the old photo albums out, detailing each event of Gabe’s life from the day he was born until his twenty fifth birthday. If his brothers were home, they’d get dragged into it too and the three of them would be protesting as their mom showed Fallon each and every embarrassing photograph, including some really scary one of Gabe after an old female friend had put rollers in his hair for a laugh. He chuckled as she rolled her eyes and kissed her forehead sweetly. With the brothers, there was no saying how or when the bet had started or even why, but Gabe would get the answers from them soon enough. Smirking down at her and raising an eyebrow, Gabe slipped instinctively into his annoying nit-picking mannerisms. “Well you said ‘we’ and since I only know Myles with cuffs, you’d have to mean him, or else your whole sentence would be incorrect.” He explained, just glad that Fallon was already used to him doing this whenever the challenge was there for it, or else who knows how quickly she’d kick him out of the door and never speak to him again. Grinning, Gabe pushed the hair from his face again. He still didn’t like that Brad had essentially used Fallon, but she seemed to have moved on from that now, so he didn’t feel the need to go and confront the guy Gabe had never really liked. Back then, it had just been a bit of slight jealousy, but now he had a reason to feel some disdain towards the man. “Well, I would’ve cooked you a meal anytime, but I do remember you laughing the first time I told you I could cook.” It wasn’t often, but Gabe did sometimes cook for the Fraternity, just whenever he had the time and got bored. He almost choked on his food when Fallon nearly bit the empty fork, but quickly composed himself again before he could start spluttering over the table. “I know it is; but Kelli didn’t. If we had walked in there cuddling and kissing it would’ve been a whole different scenario.” He wasn’t defending the waitress in any way, she was a skank, but his long running friendship with Fallon meant that they were much more playful and sarcastic a couple than most conventional ones might be. If there were people in the world that Fallon would not have been able to live with, it was probably most of the Pi Kappa Phis; especially Myles. She loved him dearly, but she didn’t want to wake up witnessing half the things Gabe had told her he’d seen. “And I’m damn happy about that,” she said, grinning. There really was no way in hell she would be able to live with him without saying something sarcastic and have the flavour of the day rushing out with dirty looks being tossed her way. Fallon honestly didn’t know how Gabe lived with it for all these years. Of course, she also didn’t know how he could have three maybe four stores where he can find everything he’s looking for and be done with shopping. She couldn’t picture herself having just two or three stores where she bought everything. When it came to clothes, Fallon loved different designers and some of those designers didn’t have collections in department stores, so that meant having to go to their individual shops. It was a lot of work, even she knew that, but whenever the mood struck, she was on the busy streets of whatever city she happened to be in. “I’m shaking in my booty slippers,” she said pointedly wiggling her toes in the plush slippers.
She didn’t want to look up at him; she didn’t want to hear about what his mother thought about her. It couldn’t be good, whatever it was. But still, she willingly lifted her head up and returned the sweet kiss. “That may be even worse,” she whispered, going back to worrying her lip. She could only imagine the thoughts running through his mother’s mind. Hers didn’t have a thought or a care about her, but Gabe’s it was obvious she loved him dearly. And then there was Fallon, this tiny little, picture perfect Tinkerbell coming along and taking up more and more space in his photo albums. Fallon groaned, letting her head drop to Gabe’s chest again. “I really hope you’re right or when I meet her it’s going to be a nightmare,” she said lifting her head again. Felicity wasn’t even on the radar. Once you took shoes from the equation, the two women had nothing in common. Felicity was hung up on Fallon’s father who’d been killed long before Fallon had even been born. As far as it mattered, Trevor was her guardian, all the paperwork said as much. And Felicity was just some woman who happened to share some DNA. Though, because it was Gabe and she felt he had a right to know, she would tell him. Fallon laughed, shaking her head and rolling her eyes. “I’m never in the mood to reminisce about it. But I figured you should know,” she said, looking up into his brown eyes before pressing her lips to his chin; the tallest place she could reach without stretching up to the tips of her toes.
“And if you care to remember I didn’t specify. I just said someone,” Fallon reminded him. “Take a guess,” she added, smirking. It didn’t matter that she didn’t actually have a pair of handcuffs, watching Gabe trying to figure it out was amusing and kept her entertained whenever he went on one of his rants. Fallon laughed again but this time more from the memory than anything else. “Well, how many guys out there really know how to cook in college? I mean anything more than mac and cheese from a box or heating up a can of something?” She asked, raising her brow. She hadn’t known a single guy she’d met during college, aside from Gabe who could actually cook a half decent meal. “But I did try that chicken thing you made! That wasn’t half bad,” she said, using the same half assed compliment she’d used the first time around; though she hadn’t meant her words. The meal he’d made had been a hell of a lot better than half the catered ones she’d had over the years. Those were the ones sets that she ordered pizza or hit up the local restaurants instead. ”She needs a self-help book. “Idiot’s guide to spotting relationships” sounds promising. And seriously, if a bunch of Frat brothers can see something there, where were her eyes?” she asked, after her mouth was clear of the delicious food. She knew where that waitress’s eyes were and they were not on the fact that Gabe wasn’t sitting alone at that table; though with the looks and lingering, Fallon may as well have been invisible. She was small, but she was hardly just a piece of background scenery.

Gabe had to laugh. He had seen a number of crazy things in the Frat house, but it did seem as though Myles took those days to the present with some of the antics that still went on at the New York apartment the two men shared. “I’m sure you’ll see a good few things there before Myles decides to settle down and put those party days behind him.”
He said, raising his eyebrow. He assumed there would be more nights now where Fallon stayed at their place and that wouldn’t put Myles off bringing some flavour of the week home or stop him from knocking on Gabe’s door at stupid AM to try and get his friend’s help to get rid of some clingy girl who was still curled up in bed with some lovesick smile on her face. He knew his brother well enough to know that he wouldn’t care about Fallon possibly being there with him when it came to another morning like that. He’d probably call Gabe and wake him up at Fallon’s if he wasn’t there with Mufasa and the girls. Gabe didn’t understand what Fallon was nervous about. She hadn’t met his mom, yes, but she really didn’t have anything to worry about. She didn’t hold grudges and he might have been the kind of guy who could be called a ‘mommy’s boy’ but she didn’t mollycoddle him or hate the girls he had an interest in. In fact, she often encouraged Gabe to get out and find a woman to make him happy. “Hey, stop worrying so much. She’s going to love you, I promise.” Gabe could read his mom well and there had never been a disapproving look in her eyes when he spoke about Fallon. Plus, if she didn’t think Myles was a bad influence, then Fallon had nothing to worry about at all! He pulled her closer, his thumb brushing over her jaw as he smiled down at her reassuringly. “When have you ever known me to be wrong?” He asked playfully, raising his eyebrow and smirking down at her. After the next time he called home he knew it would be a weekly question; “so when are we going to meet her?” and he knew his mom would probably want to hear everything about the blonde from her own lips come the day that Gabe did take her to Nebraska. He hugged her tightly and smiled down at the tiny blonde, almost tempted to pick her up and carry her about for no reason at all. “I don’t have to know any time soon, I don’t mind. Just so long as you’re not a serial killer or anything of that calibre.” He kissed her nose affectionately and chuckled to himself. “Yes: ‘we know someone’ again that still only suggests Myles.” He said with a casual shrug of his shoulders as though this was quite the serious conversation that may actually affect them in some valid way. Rolling his eyes, it was the scholar’s turn to shake his head. “That is such a stereotype. The guys might not have been culinary genius but most of them were capable of cooking themselves a semi-decent meal, they just didn’t have the time to.” He explained, remembering many of the evening meal rushes in the kitchen and how tired or pressed for time they all were most nights. “Another recipe of my mom’s. She sent me to college with them all written out in a notebook. I still have it back at the apartment.” He told her. The pages were filled with the meals he had cooked for years, mainly since the accident. He enjoyed helping out back home despite his mom reminding him that she didn’t need it. Gabe couldn’t help but to be entertained by the way Fallon was still reacting to that day in the café and to Kelli. He didn’t think he’d seen this side of her before and it amused him a little too much, but he kept the smirk hidden with mouthfuls of the pasta he had just prepared for them. “We weren’t actually in a relationship back then, to be fair. Although yeah, if the guys could see it then there really should’ve been others who saw it too. Hey, maybe there was a pool going at the university too! I bet that beaky librarian started one up!” He joked, sitting up straighter as though the idea was one of the greats. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED! Fallon had tried to shed her college years but once the three of them were back together again in the big apple, that all sort of fell away. And of course, it wasn’t as if they had to twist the Hollywood blonde’s arm. Being a proper adult in the city was hard to do, especially when there were so many new clubs she’d never been in. And she couldn’t pass up reliving the good old college days, though she did try to tone it down a hell of a lot more than she ever would have before; even if it didn’t work, ever, she tried. ”I’ve gotten a text once from Myles trying to get some flavour out of your place. I’m sure it won’t be the last time I do what I did,” she said being cryptic. Although, she was sure Myles had told Gabe everything when he had gotten home from the library. Hell, Fall was pretty sure the only reason she was called up to plate was because Gabe had left really early for the library, leaving his crazed roommate to fend for himself. And it had given Fallon a good excuse to exercise her acting skills. She hadn’t been helping out with Trevor’s company at the time as much as she would have liked.
Fallon had never worried about anyone meeting Trevor since he wasn’t the typical father figure. The friends she had made in her single year of high school had loved hanging out at her place because her uncle was so great. She’d had mixed results from that, but once she removed the people who were only there to ‘get discovered’, the group had only thought he was great because he’d basically let them have free reign over the place. He had hardly cared when Fallon threw parties, or turned the entire house on its head. No matter how much Fallon thought of Trevor as her father figure, he hadn’t been the overly protective, serious man he probably should have been. He let Fallon make her own mistakes and helped her sort them out only when she finally caved and went to him seeking it out. Fallon let out a deep sigh but smiled. ”As long as you promise,” she said rolling her eyes. She just had to remember the woman had met Myles and still hadn’t protested to her son living with the guy he called a best friend. But Myles also wasn’t dating her son, and she was. That was an entirely different set of rules and honestly, Fallon didn’t think she was good enough for Gabe. That was what it all came down to. Fallon raised a brow, smirking. ”Do you really want to go down that lane? Really?” she asked, wrinkling her nose. Fallon snapped her fingers, ”Well, damn! There goes that big surprise!” she said dryly. She would tell him, but she didn’t want to ruin the fun and good times they were having with depressing stories about before she was born; because that was all it really was. Felicity signed all the proper paperwork practically the second Fallon started to look more and more like her father. She was making a small effort now, but it was already too late for Fallon.
Fallon grinned, as she leaned in close to Gabe’s ear. ”I like to think I know myself pretty well,” she said, playfully nipping at Gabe’s earlobe. Fallon could help but give Gabe a very bland look. ”Uh-huh. I believe you,” she said sounding very much the opposite. It was difficult to believe that some of them could cook and only one of them ever did. She had no problem believing they could all throw something together now that they were away from college, but during those four years and all those pizza boxes, it was hard. Gabe’s mother’s recipes were amazing; at least, the ones Gabe had made were. Fallon teased that his cooking was off but she simply adored the meals he threw together. “I’m sure the people here couldn’t give a damn about my love life or yours enough to start up another betting pool. Plus that librarian wants you all to herself. Second, or third, whatever,” she said dismissing her own words. “Our status was just a technicality! We were together at that restaurant. You don’t go giving your number out to a guy who’s sitting with a girl, especially if you don’t know their status! It’s common sense, a trait she was obvious lacking,” Fallon said, before putting another forkful to her lips. She could see her jealousy was amusing Gabe as much as it was annoying her. She never thought she’d be the jealous type. She didn’t care if Gabe went out for guys’ night, if he hung out with other girls, but that waitress got under her skin. She wasn’t sure if it was because of how poorly she’d treated him or what, but Fallon honestly wanted to lay a beating on that bitch. Rolling her eyes, Fallon sighed when she was clear of the food, laying her fork on her nearly empty plate. “Go ahead, laugh it up. I can tell you really want to,” she said, putting her chin on her entwined fingers.

Gabe might’ve been the sensible one out of the trio, but it was hardly like the skinny scholar lectured or tried to reel in his friends when the nights on the town got out of hand. He was there to carry them home and make sure nothing terrible happened, but he enjoyed a good time too and could quite happily join them both in a drinking challenge or drunken dare. One day it really would be nothing but a good old pile of memories and Gabe wanted to have as many of them as he could before that stage of adulthood rolled around for himself, Fallon and Myles. He raised an eyebrow and then studied Fallon with an inquisitive expression. Myles had never told him about this incident, which only sparked his curiosity more. “What exactly did you do?”
He asked, still not sure if he even wanted to know this answer. Normally, when Gabe was about for the task, he just faked an emergency to get the girl out. He didn’t understand why Myles couldn’t handle it himself; he worked for the NYPD, he could easily just fake a call and say he was needed at a scene right away. Gabe’s family was really pretty lucky. Both of his brothers and himself had been able to bring people home all the time and numerous girls had been introduced to their parents, though Gabe had only ever brought one girlfriend around and that had been back in his sophomore year of high school. His brothers had constantly paraded their own love lives up and down the halls of the Nebraska ranch and none of their choices had led to open criticism from either of their parents. In the Fitzpatrick household, it was very much a “make your own mistakes and learn from them” attitude and apparently that had come from the way his gramps had been raised too. He was grateful for it, even if this last week would probably go down as his biggest mistake; how could he not notice signs that were apparently so damn obvious?! In many ways, he was also glad that he got along with Trevor, though he did pause for a moment to wonder if the man may judge him a little more now that he was involved romantically with Fallon. He had always seemed rather laidback, but family always changed once the heart got involved. “I know my mom, believe me; she’ll think you’re damn near perfect.” He said, with a small affectionate smile. His mom wouldn’t and couldn’t hate her and that was the end of it in his mind. “People say that when they need time to think about something.” He smirked, speaking in a sing-song voice as though it proved his entire point. He, obviously, had been wrong numerous times in his life, but he was still pretty much the know-it-all guy of the Pi Kappa Phis and most of his mistakes were physical and not really mental knowledge based. He rolled his eyes and dropped another quick kiss to her head. He could wait for Fallon’s history lesson, knowing that there were still parts of his life she knew nothing about too. It was all just something they would learn about each other in time as their relationship grew stronger, if that was at all possible. Gabe didn’t think he could be able to love anyone any more than he loved Fallon and even if it had been less than a day since they became “official” he didn’t want to lose her and he wanted to scream all about it from the rooftops and walk about with that stupid lovesick grin on his face permanently. His eyes shut the second her breath washed over his ear. Memories of last week and of earlier today quickly returned and he gently pulled her away keeping her at arm’s length as he cottoned onto what she seemed to be implying. “And suggesting things like that will have you sent to bed without any supper.” He said with a dark look in his eyes as he kept a tight grip on his self-control. Shaking his head, Gabe stood up for his brothers. They may not have been the most successful of chefs but over three quarters of them could handle a basic pasta dish, at least. “You didn’t see everything that happened on Greek Row. You did leave occasionally, usually when we were running low on alcohol or you needed to change.” He teased lightly, still smirking across at her. He scraped some more pasta onto his fork and listened as Fallon rambled on about their relationship. It made him smile even more, but he stopped himself from leaning over and kissing her out of fear that the dishes might end up on the floor and themselves on the table top. “Doesn’t Myles work with that friend of yours? The cop? I’m sure they’ll have quite a bit to say about us.” Myles would probably tell everyone who would listen, but Gabe knew that there was another girl in common between his girlfriend and best friend, though he had spent little time with her around. “Maybe she interpreted everything differently. Maybe she was on the same wave of thinking as me; that a girl like you was completely out of my league.” He suggested. He was still in awe that Fallon actually loved him and wanted to be with him. In Gabe’s opinion, she could have her pick of any guy in New York or LA and there were hundreds who were better than he was for someone as amazing and as incredibly as Fallon. He let out the laugh he was holding in and then dropped his fork to the plate. “I’m sorry, Fall, it’s just you were jealous of a total skank. She had absolutely nothing on you, I promise you that now. No one will ever mean more to me than you do and no one will ever make me this happy by just being here next to me. I love you and nothing is changing that.” He told her sincerely before leaning across and capturing her lips in a sweet, loving kiss. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED!
