Andrew was making most of the money he spent. Sure, he did still have the bank accounts and inheritence from his parents, but, he rarely used it unless there was an emergency. He had a well-paying job; a very well paying job. It supported most of his past times and kept a roof over his head and food on the table. Well, it had back in New York. Now, all the accounts his paychecks went to were empty, some of his funds from his parents were drained, and every penny he could grasp was stored in an old shoebox tucked away in the closet. Everything, spare a few thousands, was legally his and he'd worked hard to earn it.
Truthfully, Andrew did not want to go home to Ember. Ever. She may've been his half-sister, but, they didn't share the same DNA or lifestyle. She was reckless and irresponsible and callous; all things he'd been raised not to be. He'd put up with it for a long time; hell, he'd helped her recover when no one else could. But, after a few years of it, he couldn't stand being the one who cared more about her well-being than she did. She screamed at him; she threw things at him; she had fits over absolutely nothing, then blamed them all on him. He didn't want to go home to that ever again; he didn't want to be her punching bag any more. She could say whatever she liked about him and how he'd "abandoned" her; he didn't care any more. If she wasn't going to look out for herself and bitch him out when he tried to, why should he waste his time? The answer was, he shouldn't.
Andrew grinned as he held open the door for Rina, letting her walk through before closing the piece of wood and locking it behind them. He tucked his keys away into his pocket, along with the cheap cell phone he'd bought to be disposed of before he left Paris. He led her through the building again, taking the elevator and walking her back outside to the streets. The dinner rush was just beginning, so people were starting to mill about and roam the pretty stores. Nodding towards the end of the block, he said, "We're headed down that way, but, we can stop if you see anything you like in the shoppes. There's some candles across the street; the bakery here, of course, and there's a frilly-looking place that seems to attract lots of girls." Andrew couldn't hide a teasing smirk as he ended, strolling down the sidewalk and letting Rina choose which way they went.

Rina didn’t know what Andrew’s and Ember’s relationship was like, really. From what she saw, they had seemed like any other caring siblings, looking out for each other; much like her and Maddie. But that was all she really knew and didn’t want to annoy Andrew or piss him off by asking questions; all good things in time. Like everything else, if he wanted her to know about it, he would tell her, even if it was pretty much killing her inside to not know more about him and his life. Of course, she couldn’t claim to have been completely and utterly honest with him either. He had no clue about her childhood or growing up. He knew about the modelling, the travel and school in New York, but from the moment she started modelling and before she’d kept to herself; no one knew about the AML.
Rina waited, leaning against the far wall as Andrew locked up and stepped up next to him for the walk down to the elevator. The wait for that wasn’t long and before she knew it they were back outside in the evening sun and the beginnings of dinner rush. Rina made a note of her surroundings, mentally bookmarking each store. It was a moot point really, since she couldn’t speak a lick of the poetic language. She knew hello and goodbye, the rest was a mystery to the young model. So she would need Andrew with her, even if she wanted to surprise him like he did her. Rina looked up and down the street, having basically ignored their surroundings while walking from the airport. She started walking next to Andrew, keeping up with his pace as her head swivelled this way and that, looking at all the shops and people.
Smiling mischievously, Rina entwined her fingers through Andrew’s. Since she was told she was in remission and then recovery, she didn’t take to finding out if something was okay to do before she did it. She very much had a do it and suffer the consciences mentality since then. Rina rolled her eyes playfully at Andrew’s comedy act. “Be still my beating heart, frilly? Flocking? I must be next!” she said overdramatically, clasping her free hand to her chest. But Rina shook her head. She hadn’t eaten a thing since they called to board the plane. She couldn’t eat the food offered on the flight, more because even in first class, it was still airplane food and she just wasn’t a fan. “I do need to search out a dress, though. I was going to do it when I got back, but this is Paris and the city has such amazing little shops. But I’m really hungry. I haven’t eaten since New York,” she admitted, shaking her head. Her eating habits could be pretty bad. It wasn’t like she purposefully skipped meals; it was unintentional when it did happen. Minus the flight, that was absolutely on purpose; yuck.

Andrew was not a brother first and foremost; he hadn't been for over half of his life, and hadn't even known Ember existed until only a few years ago. No, before the brother game the son who was to take over the company, and the gentleman who'd been groomed to take a place in society, and the boy who was pushed into being a man from the time he'd hit double-digits on his age. This was what made up Andrew Grant; being a big brother only got tacked onto the list when his half-sister was introduced to him. He may've loved her, and put up with her, and enjoyed having a kid-sibling to look out for after being an only child his whole life, but, she never seemed to enjoy it like he did. To him, she made it seem like he was a nuisance and bother to have around; like she didn't want him. And, if he wasn't wanted, he generally didn't put up with it for long. Sure, he'd lived with Ember for a couple years and had dealt with everything from drunk nights to post-hospital, but, after months of being insulted, sworn at, and generally hurt, what was he supposed to do? Let her beat him and take advantage of him? No; that wasn't fair. She may've thought so, and she may've been bitching about how he'd left her all alone, but, until now, she'd been doing the opposite, telling him to get lost on more than one occasion. His running away had just been giving her what she wanted; again.
Andrew blinked for a moment as he felt a smaller hand slip into his, but he didn't pull away or fight it off. He just smiled, lacing their fingers together and continuing down the street. Nothing like the Paris lights to start a romance, right? "I was just saying," he laughed, shaking his head affectionately at her. "I'll have them bring 'round an extra course at the cafe. Two desserts? Or, we could order pizza for a midnight snack," he smirked down at her, squeezing her fingers and guiding her towards the cafe doors that they were nearing. He pushed through, giving the host a familiar nod and saying in perfect French, "Réservation pour Jamie. Le tableau de la fenêtre?" He may not've been able to communicate in Polad, but, when it came to anywhere speaking French, Andrew could very well fend for himself. He'd taken lessons since the sixth grade, and the company had done business with more than one French client; to say the least, he'd had no trouble getting around in Paris. It still felt odd using his middle name as his last, though it was safer than going around with "Andrew" and "Grant" paired together. Too many people here knew him; too many people could report back to his father in a wink.

Rina didn’t like keeping things from her friends; especially Lexi, whom she’d found she could talk to about next to anything at all. They both came from the same sort of world. It was two different countries but it was the same upper class crowd. And neither one of the girls allowed the money they grew up with to shape them. Rina because she’d spent most of her childhood in the hospital so she hadn’t really ever been able to use the money her family had. As terrible as it sounded, she had no problem keeping things from Maddie. Not telling her sister was the easy part of the last month or so. And since Maddie was all about dance, she didn’t see past the false truths Rina fed her. It was easier to say work was work and nothing new happened than it was to explain everything that had happened and potentially ruin it all. Andrew was on the run from his family and Rina didn’t want to be the reason they found him because she told her sister.
There were a hundred times since she’d gotten back from her first trip that she wanted to just spill everything to Lexi; like she needed someone around her that knew the truth of it all so she could ramble on about all the problems there were sure to be. She was alright for now, keeping all this to herself. She hoped she wouldn’t have to keep this little secret for long; though she could get used to these little trips away from real life. Of course, she couldn’t really say much about the whole situation. She didn’t know very much about it but she did know she wanted it settled, even if Andrew didn’t just yet. She wanted to ask him to be her plus one to the masquerade ball Lexi had invited her to. It was coming up quickly, just after finals and school was done. She didn’t have a date, but she wanted one. The problem was figuring out a way of asking him so he would agree. By all accounts, the pair hadn’t known each other for a long time and aside from the month they sort of threw themselves together, they hadn’t spent any time together. She shouldn’t have such strong feelings towards Andrew, but she did.
Rina laughed happily. It was a wonderful gesture, that he while he was out exploring the busy streets of Paris, he made little notes of places she might like. “Mm, chocolate soufflé and some pastries of some kind? All that sugar will leave me bouncing off the walls,” she said, grinning. “Though pizza at midnight sounds fun, too. Decisions, decisions. What to choose?” she said, casually. Rina looked at the exterior of the café and the little shops surrounding it. It was a cute little place and Rina adored the little known shops and cafes. Only the locals knew about them and they always served the best of foods. She slipped in through the doors and looked around, curiosity getting the better of her. It took her a minute before she realized Andrew was speaking perfect French, or as near to perfect as she’d heard in a while. Her eyes lifted to Andrew’s, smirking. She knew Polish nearly as perfect as if she had lived in the country all her life and he spoke French.
What other secrets did he hide? She was just as curious about the man she was standing next to today as she was the first time she’d ever met him in passing. She waited until they were seated at the table before she raised her brow, “Jamie, hmm?” she whispered across the table, smirking. She accepted the menu to be polite. Unless it was in English, or Romanian, she couldn’t read a lick of it. “I hope you read French as well as you speak it. Very nice by the way,” she said smiling, opening the menu for show. She took a quick glance, but only to confirm that it was indeed written in French.

There were many things that Andrew hadn't shared with Rina. The French was one of them, and his actual reasons for running another; but, despite that, he still felt like she knew parts of him that no one else did. They'd spent more one on one time together than he'd ever done with anyone else, and, even if they hadn't known each other their entire lives, he felt more comfortable with her than his best friend or even his sister. She didn't pressure him or laugh at him or force him into things; she was just there, brightening up his word and making his whole escape easier to deal with mentally.
Rina warded off the homesickness that Andrew wouldn't admit to having. She brought enough of New York with her so that he wouldn't get out of touch with that world, but, it was still too little to really bring him back into that life. He usually avoided any mention of his homelife or of Ember, knowing that the two were friends. One blonde was enough for him right now, and Rina was much better comany than his younger sister; he'd run off for a reason.
Andrew looked out for places for her wherever they went. He wanted to surprise her and keep her entertained so that she wouldn't get bored and run off on him. Rina was really the only thing that kept him happily touring Europe, and he usually fell into some foul mood whenever she jetted back to New York for work or school. Thinking up new places for them to go was his way of occupying himself, and it kept him from staying cooped up in the hotel room for days straight. "I'm sure we could find some use for the energy," he replied with a smirk, giving her a playful wink. He laughed softly and shrugged, "It's all up to you. I've been ordering food at odd hours of the night since I arrived."
The French was no big deal for Andrew; he'd been speaking it for years. It, along with a few other languages, were things he needed for his job and things his high school had required. They made his life easier, that was for sure, and, in cases like this, he was actually happy for the excessive lessons. "It is technically my name," he answered back, giving her a tiny smile. It was his cover, and, no matter how much she teased, she wasn't going to break that. Andrew would keep it up until things smoothed over. "I've been speaking it for years," he said with a chuckle, holding his menu up and pointing to titles as he went. "All of these involve snails and disgusting French 'delicacies'. Pasta with bread, sandwich and chips, and soup and sald. Take your pick," he said, already knowing that he'd be ordering his usual.

Sorina understood that there were still secrets between them. After all, she wasn’t about to go dropping every bomb she had to him either. Most of the people she knew weren’t aware of her troubled childhood or the way she’s spent those early years. After she was signed to the agency in Romania, her life stopped being completely her own. She wasn’t as well known, but the most she could keep from the world who went looking was her past. And she wanted to keep it that way for as long as she possibly could. But she could wait until Andrew was ready to confide in her. She was trying to bring some patience back into her life.
Going to Europe was Rina’s way of battling homesickness. She didn’t get many jobs in Romania, but she got plenty in other Eastern European countries so she took what she could get when she could get it to push away the feeling of melancholy she got from time to time. And since meeting Andrew, she got her fix of her new home while she was back in her old one. She didn’t know how she was going to ask Andrew to go back to the states with her, but even though she was trying to be patient with him, she could feel that idea breaking slowly. She knew that before long she was just going to blurt it out to him, asking him to go back with her and maybe even give him an ultimatum. She had plenty of work in New York, a lot more than the countries of Europe provided half the time. She took these jobs for two reasons; to be home again even for a few days and Andrew. Rina’s homesickness didn’t come as often as it used to, but it was still around every once in a while, that meant she didn’t really need to be in Europe that much.
Rina didn’t want to lose Andrew, she liked him too much for that, but she would leave him for some time. Just long enough for him to figure things out. When she’d met him, he was just fooling around, being a tourist in an unknown country, she knew she changed that, however inadvertently. He was still doing that for the most part, but at least now she was around to keep him company and take him from a path that was bound to get him arrested sooner rather than later. Rina looked up at Andrew with a brow raised and a grin playing on her lips. “Promisiune?” she asked, biting her lip. It was close to the English word so she hoped that Andrew would understand what she was saying. Give her enough time and she would get him to understand anything she said in her native tongue when she mumbled and ranted to herself. “How about we order the soufflé and see how that goes,” she suggested. Rina wasn’t the kind of person that needed a ton of sugar and caffeine to get herself some energy. She joked with her family that all the rest she got as a child resulted in her needing less and now she was making up for the lack of energy she’d had back then, too.
Quite a few different European languages came easily to Sorina because of how similar they were to her native tongue. And her mother had been teaching her English since she was old enough to talk! Rina grinned, rolling her eyes at him. “Something new every day,” she said. She hadn’t known his middle name but she could guess now that it was Jamie. “It shows,” she replied, laughing. He was quite good with the French far better than she would ever be. Rina shuddered, making a face. “Can you order me penne Alfredo with chicken?” she asked, closing the menu in her hand and setting it aside. Nearly every restaurant she’d been to had the pasta dish and hopefully this one would be the same. “If not surprise me,” she said, pausing or a second to grin and add, “With something that doesn’t have snails in it.”
