Allela could not believe that she was doing this. Even Owen hadn’t been able to get her into a dress for his wedding and he was her big brother! Still, Ryder had reminded her just how much blackmail he could use against her if she didn’t cooperate and play nicely with his bride to be, who Allela was still wary of. The whole thing had happened so fast and her best friend was just so head over heels for this Aimee that Allela worried that it was all going to end in heartbreak. Her own experiences with romance had been disastrous and ever since the last one, she had believed that romance was something best left to the movies and novelists, rather than reality. If she thought for one moment that this girl was going to crush Ryder then Allela would have no problem showing this girl how things rolled back in Glasgow, starting with a lovely Glaswegian kiss which would have her seeing stars and possibly needing a new nose. No one messed with the people Allela cared about.
Still, she had promised to play nice and so she would, but that didn’t stop the feisty brunette from rocking up to Fifth Avenue in one of the most inappropriate outfits for wedding shopping. Still, Nikki was supposed to be there and she had seen Allela in her shorts and baggy shirt combo a million times before, though she knew she was making life difficult for Ryder’s catch by showing up looking like she was about to hit a gig rather than some fancy bridal shops. Still, she wasn’t about to change her style for anyone and if this did turn out to be some sickeningly modern fairy tale then Aimee would see her in worse than this sooner or later.
She fiddled with the piercings in her ears, adjusting the new bar bells whilst she waited for either of the two girls to show up outside their rendezvous point of the small bistro. Allela didn’t know if they were supposed to be grabbing lunch and chatting first or getting straight down to business. She was not the kind of girl to get excited about weddings, colour schemes or flowers and if Aimee was expecting that then Allela was sure to hit back with a mouthful of sarcasm and the dry wit she was known for when she was working on Broadway. Checking the time on her phone, Allela sighed and tossed her gum into the bin nearby, folding her arms as she waited for someone to appear. The small blast of sound from the device in her hand told her that she had a text and glancing at it did nothing to lighten her mood; Nikki was held up with college work and couldn’t make the date at all. So now it would be Allela and a girl she had glimpsed once or twice when she was meeting Ryder. Well, this should be interesting, if nothing more.

Today was going to be a nightmare. Aimee usually looked forward to shopping, but this wasn't just shopping. Bridesmaids dresses she would've been able to handle; going with Allela and Nikki was another story. She'd invited only them on purpose, rather than include the one or two other bridesmaids she had picked out, because she knew these girls meant the world to Ryder and he wanted them all to get along. He'd given her the biggest smile when she'd suggested the plan, so she'd had to carry it out, if only to make him happy. She'd have to play nice with them eventually, especially since one was his twin and the other his best friend. She had nothing in common with them though; she was from an entirely different world than what they appeared to be used to. However, they only had to survive a day together, and then Ryder himself would be there to smooth paths between them all. Hopefully.
Aimee went through the usual routine with him, along with more reassurences that everything would go wonderfully today. Nikki and Allela would love her; he'd told them so much about her; other such nonsense that she blew off, knowing perfectly well that there wasn't a chance in the world she'd become best friends with these girls.
Nonetheless, she kissed him goodbye and headed off for Fifth Avenue, dressed in the typical attire that screamed "money!" She'd grown up with it though, so thought nothing of it as she glided into a cab and gave the address of the cafe the girls had agreed to meet at. It'd be a miracle if she survived a lunch with them, so she planned on getting something to go and eating at the store. They had an appointment to keep, afterall, which was another reason Aimee was in a bit of a rush. As she stepped out of the cab and into the crowd of shoppers, her phone chimed in her purse. Walking up to the cafe doors, she pulled it out and sighed under her breath. No Nikki, which meant she'd be all alone with Allela. Wonderful.
Aimee threw her phone back into her purse and looked around in search of her partner for the day. Her eyes narrowed in slight anger as they fell onto the one person who didn't look like they belonged anywhere near such high class stores; of course it was Allela. Why had she agreed to have her as a bridesmaid again? She shook her head and walked over to the girl, a practiced smile on her glossed lips. "Ready for some shopping? I figured we could grab something to go and then head over to the store. They're expecting us at one," she said, trying her best not to add "and I'm sure we'll be able to find you some new clothes, too" onto her sentence. She had to play nice for Ryder.

Allela was not feminine in any sense of the word. She might own some heels and have a small make-up bag, but none of that changed her from being the heavy accented, sarcastic and blunt little firecracker that she had been ever since she was a kid. Shopping was something she usually did alone and she had her set stores and was usually all done and dusted inside of two hours, not at all interested in making a day of it or browsing as though there was all the time in the world; she knew what she liked, what she wanted and that was all shopping was really about to her.
She ran her fingers through her wild waves and let out a bored sigh as she waited. Allela could dress up and look nice when she felt like it, but most of the time she was content with just throwing herself together in the morning. She didn’t look a state and guys had flirted with her when she was dressed in her old teenage clobber, but it was entirely different to what Aimee came swanning up the street in. If she had worn anything like that on the streets of Glasgow she would’ve been mugged already, and ridiculed by most of the people. She might have been a bride-to-be, but Allela didn’t and never would understand why people had to dress to flaunt their wealth; what did it even matter? Still, she would probably find herself in something stupidly costly and impossible to move in before the day was out. However, if Aimee so much as hinted at pink or frills then Allela was out of the door and the bride could be a bridesmaid shorter; she loved Ryder, but there was only so much she would do for him and pink, frilly dresses were way over the line.
Still, she would be nice. The two girls were never going to be alike, no matter how much Ryder pushed them together on ventures like this. He would, however, owe her a new record for her collection after a day of dresses, shoes and girly banter. “Aye, why no?”
She said with an indifferent shrug, her thick Glaswegian accent sticking out from all of the surrounding ones. Hooking her thumbs into the belt loops of her shorts, she pushed away from where she was leaning and flashed a small smirk at Aimee. “I guess you goot Nikki’s text, aye?” She presumed, not knowing what else to say to someone who was so very different from her. Aimee had been raised on diamonds and pearls, not backstreets and pubs. The way she walked, how she talked, even the way she held herself; it all showed just how much grooming and work had gone into turning her into the poised lady she was today. Most of the time, she didn't rub it in people's faces, but, when she went shopping at one of her mother's friend's stores, she had to look the part of darling daughter unless she wanted to get chewed out for it later. Even if she was shopping for dresses for her wedding, her mother was there constantly, interrupting and giving her unwanted opinion. Well, hopefully, she wouldn't catch sight of Allela; the girl might be restrained, stripped, and forced into something very fluffy and pink.
There was a reason Aimee hadn't picked pink as one of her wedding colors. It was a summer wedding, true, but she'd had enough pink in her lifetime. Besides, it had been Ryder who'd helped pick out the color, and the orange seemed to fit both their tastes. It was pretty and fun, which suited their liking and personalities. Now, if only the bridesmaids would approve of her dress choices.
Aimee kept her head high, tucking her phone into her purse and doing her best not to fake being sick. That would only increase the idea that she was pregnant which, much to everyone's amazement, she wasn't and wouldn't be for awhile. She was only 20, after all, and she couldn't afford to lose her slim figure this early on in life. "This place has the best sandwiches and soup on the avenue," she smiled politely, opening up the door to the cafe and walking inside. "Yes, I just did. Guess we'll have to make do without her," she said tightly. So much for sister bonding, huh?
The hostess smiled at a familiar face, though her eyes widened at the sight of Allela. Aimee explained they were just getting something to go, ordering her favorite as the hostess timidly handed Allela a menu to look over. Aimee made small talk with the girl, using the charm she'd been born with as she talked shopping and designs while she waited for Allela to choose her food. "You can just put it all on the tab, darling. My mother's card is on file yet, yes?" she said, smiling sweetly as the girl nodded.

Allela was proud of who she was. Growing up in Glasgow might have left her rough around the edges and with a fiery temperament, but it was who she was and that attitude had kept her out of a lot of trouble. She was nowhere near angelic and her past may not reflect that to an outsider, but her defensive nature and tough tomboy lifestyle meant that she could fight for herself and things could’ve gone a lot worse for her, especially during her short stint in university back in Scotland. Still, she wasn’t about to change for anyone, especially just because she didn’t fit in with the upper crust lifestyle her best friend was choosing to marry into. She might don a dress for the day and fake the smiles for the photographs, but she had no intention of playing down who she really was just for someone to keep up their appearances. She had a feeling that Nikki wouldn’t either and that Aimee should probably be prepared to be disappointed that she couldn’t mould the girls to her way of life, even just for one day.
She hated Fifth Avenue and the snobby stores with their snobbier store clerks. She was sure that you had to have a certain amount of money and social status to work along here and the second your reputation was slightly marred you were probably socially shunned by everyone else too. It reminded her of that stupid Pretty Woman movie, when Julia Roberts is looked down upon and practically kicked out of the ugly, fancy store just because she didn’t look ‘right’. Allela dared someone to try that today with her and she would very quickly be giving them a legitimate reason to throw her from the store and probably into the back of a cop car too if she wasn’t careful. She wouldn’t let some rich, spoilt brat of any kind treat her like dirt on the bottom of a shoe just because she didn’t have their lifestyle or their wealth.
Raising an eyebrow, Allela looked around the elegant café and made a point of clicking her tongue rather loudly too, just to stop herself from making some remark about how sandwiches were sandwiches, regardless of where they were from. Still, she had yet to find a decent place to get herself some deep fried haggis; the one thing she really missed from home. “I’ll take y’ word fur it.”
She said, lazily looking over the menu, before ordering a triple meat sandwich. She rolled her eyes at Aimee’s simpering conversation with the glorified waitress serving them and stepped forward just a bit to get their attention. “I’ve goot this.” She declared, flashing her bank card. Allela didn’t care if she was about to get ripped off for lunch, but she would rather be broke than have Aimee’s ma unknowingly buy her lunch. She could look after herself, even on Fifth Ave. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED! Aimee <3 WORDS! 529 OUTFIT! Big ol’ mess! LYRICS! Aimee didn't want Allela and Nikki to be more of the society girls that filled her social world; she'd grown up with that and they'd gotten a little boring after awhile. She did like that they were different, and that they didn't see the world in diamonds and dollars like she was used to. She liked them for the same reasons she'd fallen for Ryder; they weren't what she'd always known, and she enjoyed being normal around them. Of course, she really wasn't "normal" around Allela and Nikki because the girls were all walking on thin ice, but it wasn't that way with Ryder. If she got along with him, and he got along with the girls, surely there was hope, right? No, probably not; the world never seemed to work like that. Plus, there were too many differences between them. They all had their own thoughts and own ideas, and Aimee knew there was pride mixed in there somewhere, too. It made the barrier so much higher, but she wasn't looking to overcome it just yet. So far, everything had gone smoothly without any fights or fusses, and changing anything would probably jeopardize that. No; let them keep up the half-hearted waves in passing. They'd at least be civil to each other then.
At Allela's interjection, Aimee had to work to keep herself from frowning. Today was supposed to be her day to treat her bridesmaids; not for her bridesmaids to treat her. Though, technically, it was bridesmaid and it wasn't even her favorite one, but the idea still held. Allela was not supposed to be paying for things, especially the meal. That alone should've been Aimee's treat, which her social-ruled head kept screaming. Letting out a fake, tight laugh, she said, "Of course not. Really, I've got it. It's my fault we're here in the first place; the least I can do is pay." Aimee kept her practiced smile on, giving the hostess a look that sent the girl quivering in her boots. She had to glare at someone, even if the girl was an innocent here. "Oh, aren't you saving up for records, anyways? Ryder mentioned something about it awhile back; save the money for that. I'm sure it's much more important than a stupid little lunch," she added. Turning back to the hostess, she said icily, "Put it on Mother's tab, darling."

So long as Aimee didn’t try to morph Allela into something she wasn’t, the Scottish girl believed they might actually get along. It wouldn’t be right away and it wouldn’t be some magical world where they waltzed through Ryder’s door with matching outfits and countless inside jokes about some experience they had shared. Still, he had lost his mind and decided to marry this girl and Allela wasn’t going to be difficult for the rest of their happy life together. She just needed Aimee to know that she wasn’t going to be some puppet at this wedding and she wasn’t about to let her destroy her best friend’s heart, if it ever came to that. The Glaswegian would happily show Aimee that all the money in New York couldn’t protect her if Ryder’s heart was ever broken.
Allela didn’t believe in social rules or positions. People were people and money shouldn’t have such a big effect on that, but it did and it made the Scottish girl irritable whenever people on Fifth Avenue had to flaunt it. Allela worked hard to save her money up and treat herself to her travels around the globe and new music equipment. She wasn’t rich, but she also never struggled to survive either. Each month left her with enough money to pay the bills, make rent, survive and she still had plenty left over to treat herself. She usually threw some into a saving account too, ready for her next adventure on the planet which would hopefully be only a few weeks away. The luxury of travelling at low cost was that all it took was a plane ticket to somewhere and a quick reservation at a hostel. The rest of the trip could be done on bus rides, trains and joining up with other travellers out there and Allela knew a fair few of them by now who usually travelled around the same time that she did. They met up if their paths grew close to crossing and it was worthwhile to reminisce about awkward times or hilarious moments that they had shared over their time out there.
“It’s fine. You can get it next time.”
Allela said with a smirk and a shrug. She didn’t see what the big deal was for Aimee, but she didn’t like having anything bought for her when she had only just met a person. Too many bad memories and close encounters had ruined that for the young brunette. Allela let out a short laugh and then flicked her gaze to the rich socialite who had somehow captured the heart of her best friend. “I get a new record every week an’ I dinnae save up for ‘em. Ryder’s talkin’ oot of his arse again.” She said, shaking her head and handing her card over to the waitress with a warm smile. “Here, swipe the darn thing so I can eat already. Yer maw’s tab can be spared a hit.” She said to Aimee, waiting as the girl on the other side of the counter sorted out their lunch. If Aimee pushed this again then she would be skipping out on lunch entirely. Allela had better things to be doing with her life than arguing over who was getting lunch. Aimee would probably never fit into Allela's world. She would always wear afternoon pearls, drink tea, and attend dainty parties; that was the life she had, and would always be expected to live. Marrying Ryder would change some of it, sure, but, deep down, it would still be Aimee's world. She'd still have too much money, and she'd still be working at the fashion house; wearing a wedding band couldn't change any of that, and it wouldn't change who she was.
She may've been in love with Ryder, but that didn't mean she was very fond of his best friend, or even his sister, for that matter. The girls seemed to shut her out, as Nikki's text message today proved. Ryder had been going on and on about how excited his sister was for today, and how she'd already had shoes picked out for it; why had she suddenly bailed? Aimee continuously got the feeling that Nikki didn't care for her, and it was the same now, while she was alone with Allela. They all thought of her as some whore who was stealing away the precious prince, and she was beginning to doubt she'd ever be able to change that opinion.
All she wanted to do was buy her lunch, a treat for actually showing up today, unlike Nikki. But, even that, apparently, wasn't going to be allowed. No matter; maybe she'd offer to buy her bridesmaid dress, too, and the shoes to match. One shoe alone would be worth ten of these meals. "Whatever you'd like, Allela," she said, lips pressed into a tight, entirely practiced smile. The next time she saw Ryder, she was going to kill him; this fight wasn't even worth it.
Aimee glared at the girl, the fake smile only returning once the food was brought around, packed neatly into two boxes. She bid the girl goodbye, turning sharply on her heal and heading back out onto the streets, hoping that, maybe, Allela would somehow vanish the moment she turned around; at least shopping would be peaceful, then. Glancing over her shoulder, she sighed as she realized her bridesmaid was still there. "Ready to get down to business? I hope you like the color; Ryder picked it out," she said, a cruel smirk on her lips now. The color was actually Ryder's choice, so, if Allela didn't like it, it wouldn't be the bride she blamed; it'd be her best friend.

Allela wasn’t unsure about Aimee because of her money or upper class status. No, what bothered her was the speed in which this brunette had wrapped Ryder around her little finger. The Glaswegian girl didn’t believe in fairy tales or blissful endings and this whirlwind romance had the alarm bells ringing in her head. She knew Ryder was a hopeless romantic while she played the role of sarcastic cynic, but it was what he needed sometimes and Allela wanted to take today to make sure that this diamond and pearl princess had no ulterior motives for her co-worker and closest friend. If there was one word to describe Allela’s relationship with anyone she called her friend, it was protective. She had been in danger in this game of love herself, a long time ago back when she walked on the cobbled streets of Glasgow and it had been her best friend who pulled her away from the edge back then. It had changed her life, possibly for the worse and Allela wanted to save anyone else from that before they got as close as she did to something awful.
She never spoke about that though, not even to Ryder, so it probably made some sense that she might come across to the rich Aimee as a girl who had all the walls up with no intention of building a door for her to get through. It was how she was whenever she met anyone knew these days and often found herself hiding behind a shield of sarcasm and a sword of deadly wit. Her faith in humanity had been shattered and while therapy had helped before she travelled the globe, there was still a part of her that would never ever be able to recover from what had happened during her two years of sixth-form college in Scotland.
Allela looked over at Aimee and shrugged her shoulders. “It’s no biggie, hen. I always take it in turns with Ryder when it comes to lunch. Yoo can start a tab too.”
She said with the hint of her usual smirk. She did have issues over people buying her food, but the system with Ryder had worked for a while now without her freaking out about having her lunch poisoned. She knew that Aimee probably wouldn’t poison a bridesmaid, but the fear was deeply rooted in the pink haired girl and even the Pope wouldn’t be allowed to buy Allela lunch first. She followed Aimee from the store, waving to the girl who had served them first before she stepped out of the door. She unwrapped the unnecessary packaging from her sandwich and took a bite into it before Aimee spoke to her again. “Mmhm. Great, an’ he prob’ly picked it on a day he felt like annoyin’ me.” She joked, rolling her eyes. If the dress had bows, ruffles or anything else that was equally horrific, Ryder wouldn’t be making it down the aisle. In fact, he wouldn’t be making it out of the sound booth! Aimee was well aware that this wedding had come up speedily. She'd heard no end of gossip, scolding, and cautions from friends, family, and pretty much the entire elite society of New York. There'd been rumors of a pregnancy, him using her for her money, and so much more; but, she'd ignored all of them. None of them mattered, and the people who thought up such drama didn't matter, either. This was between her and Ryder; it was their choice, and not anyone else's. So what if they were young; they were in love, and Aimee knew herself and him well enough to know that this was right. If someone didn't support that, they needn't bother going to the wedding.
There was enough going on without having to worry about charming every person on the guest list into behaving for her. Aimee would gladly have spent her day with some of her other bridesmaids, picking the dresses and making sure they looked wonderful enough to be included in this grand wedding. But, no; she'd chosen Allela and Nikki, one of which hadn't even bothered to show up. And, right now, the other wasn't even letting her buy lunch, which was a wound just as deep in Aimee's book. She wished she'd gone against Ryder and invited someone from her social world instead of his; this would've been a heck of a lot easier.
Aimee strutted down the sidewalk like any native New Yorker, making her way towards the nearby shoppe that would be their home for the next couple hours. She knew everyone there quite well, having delivered some of her mother's designs more than a few times, so it'd be like a big reunion for her. But, she knew that they could be a bit intimidating to someone who'd never stepped foot into a boutique before; hopefully, she'd be able to keep Allela from embarrassing her too much. Aimee kept her food in its box, not being a fan of shoving her face as she walked down the street. She smiled as she saw the doors of the destination, looking back at Allela. "Here we are. If you need anything, like water, tea, a snack, just ask; one of the assistants will run out and grab it for you. Now, let the fun begin," she stepped through the doors, being greeted by a chorus of "Miss March!" and "Darling!" along with cheek kisses all around. They all fawned over the ring for another moment, and Aimee played the part of princess like she had her entire life. Here, especially, she was royalty; these people knew her mother as the queen, making little Miss March's opinion even more valuable that the Mrs when she could easily sway her mother's mind. "Alright, alright; we have business to attend to. Dear, you have the dresses I ordered, yes? Oh, and put this onto a plate for me. I'll eat as we work," she handed off her boxed lunch to one of the people hovering around her, taking the arm of the owner of the store as she glanced back at her companion. Freezing, she laughed prettily. "I almost forgot! This is Miss Rosslyn. She's one of my bridesmaids. Someone get her a plate, too, if you please," she called over her shoulder, smiling as the pink-haired girl was ushered to follow after Aimee.

Allela didn’t see the point in a big wedding, a fancy dress or even the need to be married in the first place. Her own experiences of “true love” had been a lie or had been ruined by other people, so she definitely didn’t want them around to take another shot at it. She had siblings who were happily married and she had threatened Owen that if he so much as gushed about it one more time then he would be getting hurt and it wouldn’t be pretty. Allela couldn’t stand all the fussing and the need to tell everyone the details of it all. Her illusion of a happy ending had been shattered for her long before her move to New York and now she didn’t care about love or finding her soulmate. She was young, she wanted to focus more on the band and her career and she didn’t need some fairytale dream ruining that for her. She didn’t think Ryder needed it either, but this was the one point where the two friends never agreed.
She was going through all of this for Ryder and him only. He was her best friend and the first person she had met upon moving to the city. He’d helped her through more than enough and this, along with hijacking his bachelor party so that he would actually do something for it, was her way of repaying him, even if she wasn’t so happy about the dress wearing part of that silent agreement she had made with herself. He deserved to be happy and if that meant spending the rest of his life with Aimee then Allela would hold her tongue and try to keep her sarcastic comments to a minimum.
As she walked along, she munched on the sandwich, reaching into her bag to pull out a bottle of Mountain Dew, necking a quarter of the bottle before screwing the top back on and dropping it back into the dark mess of the bag that carried everything from her wallet to last week’s take-out order list. One look at the fancy bridal boutique had Allela rolling her eyes and dragging her feet ever so slightly too. She hated these boutiques and much preferred the quirky little thrift stores and incense smelling stores that she haunted regularly, though a lot of her clothes were purchased back home and she just brought them back over with her. “I’m sure I’ll be fine.”
She planned on giving no assistant any running orders. She had her drink in her bag, she had just finished her sandwich and if she did need something then she could run across the street and get it herself; her independence was much too important to the proud Scot. As the assistants fawned over Aimee, Allela rolled her eyes again and had to pinch herself; normal people did not gush over someone like this. The whole thing was pushing her to her edge and biting her tongue – literally - was the only way to keep herself from shouting at everyone about how pathetic it was to worship someone like this. In this moment, Allela remembered the bitchy girls at her first high school, the hatred for them returning like it was only yesterday. Those girls had tried to make her life hell and yet she had been punished for it, while they were “praised” for staying on the right path. The memories made her want to be here even less and curdled her already sour mood. “There’s no need.” She waved off the plate by finishing the remainder of her sandwich in a bite, tossing the rubbish into the depths of her bag, silently daring anyone to say anything to her now. “An’ it’s Allela. The last person who called me ‘Miss Rosslyn’ was the man who expelled me from high school.” She informed the room, not wanting to be some new toy for the sheep-like assistants to preen and pamper. She just wanted this over and done with so that she could hit a dive bar and have a beer. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED! Aimee <3 WORDS! 721 OUTFIT! Big ol’ mess! LYRICS!
