The end of the year was approaching and that, for Adora, meant that it was time to cram the school years’ worth of knowledge back into her head in time for the exams and the several that she had to sit for her course, considering the nature of it. Still, while she didn’t mind the all night studying sessions or the long hours spent cramped up in the library it still got a bit boring when she did it all alone. Most of the freshmen were still on their energetic partying spurts, trying to get it all out of their system before the student life quietened down over the summer and most of them returned to their parent’s homes. Addy, however, took her studies seriously and didn’t care for heavy drinking; the only alcohol she ever drank was at celebrations when her mom poured her a small glass.
No young person should spend Friday night alone and that was why Adora had fired a quick text to Cole after her final class of the day, asking if he fancied a joint study session. They could grab something to eat from wherever, or order from her dorm when they got hungry and keep each other company as they worked through whatever studying they had for their final exams and assignments. It would be nice to spend some time with her friend before their lives were entirely consumed by the conclusion of the college year. Addy couldn’t believe it had gone by so fast and she was still trying to work out if she would return to Florida for the summer or try to find a place of her own in New York ready for September and her sophomore year as a medical student.
After heading to her dorm to dump off some unnecessary things and pick up the books she did need, Adora quickly stopped off at the campus store to buy some juice and mints like she always did when she planned on studying and then quickly retraced her steps back across to the large library building. It was a lot emptier than it had been earlier in the week, but then the weekend was in full swing and if her dorm was anything to go by then people were more likely to be getting ready for a night out with glitter and fake IDs. Adora found a small table just out of the way of the main library traffic and took a seat, dumping her heavy bag on the chair next to her, pulling her things out and sitting comfortably in the chair, tangling her limbs around the frame in her favourite position for reading. She sent another quick text to Cole to tell him where she was and then placed her phone on the table, picking up the first book to read over the chapters she had marked off for tonight.

Cole couldn't believe the school year had gone by so fast. It seemed like only yesterday when he'd been stumbling around campus, trying to find his way to his classes and the library. However, he was welcoming the break from the stress of school work and due dates. It'd be nice to just kick back and not have to worry about the essay due Monday or that chapter that still had to be read. Finally, he'd get to enjoy New York without freaking out over his assignments or being to class on time.
But, before the relaxation could begin, there were finals to be dealt with and end of the year papers to be turned in. He'd been having endless study sessions for the past couple weeks, going between the campus library and his apartment, and he was starting to feel a bit better about the upcoming exams. At least, he was hoping that he wouldn't totally fail. He'd been spending every spare moment with his nose in a book, rarely even popping out to eat these days. Only a little longer, then it was all over; if only he made it that long.
Cole was just finishing up his final class of the day when he checked his phone and noticed the two texts from Addy. He usually turned the device off until he was done focusing for the day, seeing as it was a distraction, especially during class. Today, he couldn't help grinning at the idea of seeing his red-headed friend. It was Friday, after all, and one could only spend so many weekends studying alone before they got dull and boring. He quickly replied to her, making his way towards the library instead of the subway that led home.
He adjusted his bag of books over his shoulder and pushed through the doors, eyes searching the empty room to find the bright hair he knew so well. It didn't take him long to spot it, the smile taking over his face as he came over and plopped down into the chair next to Addy. "I see you got stocked up. Planning on making a night of it?" he teased, nodding towards the juice and mints as he sifted through his own bag to find his notebook and required textbook. "If we are, I'm suggesting pizza for our midnight snack. We can only watch me struggle with chopsticks so many times before it gets boring," he said with a smirk. Cole settled himself into the chair and fished out a pen, already searching for his place in the book so he could begin studying himself once again.

Most Friday nights of Adora’s were spent reading a new book, Sykping her parents back home or taking on a late tour at the museum. She was too young for nightclubs and bars and didn’t see the appeal of getting a fake ID to experience something she had no interest in. Maybe once she was twenty-one she might go out for a friend’s birthday and try a drink or two, but she would also be more than happy to play the designated driver on those nights out; she didn’t need alcohol or anything else to have a good time. Plus, she’d never been through anything so rough that her mind needed some fix to help her forget about it. The worst thing she went through most weeks was a routine hospital trip just to make sure that her health was at its best and to get a new refill for her inhaler, which got used much more with the humidity and the heat of the summer months. That had been part of her life for as long as she could remember and Adora didn’t see her asthma as a hindrance anymore.
Her lips twitched into a smile when her small phone buzzed on the desk. She read the message from Cole and then quickly sent one to her dad, letting him know that she wouldn’t be around for their Friday evening chat tonight because of studying. She’d have plenty of chances to call them over the weekend, but only because all the studying tonight would free up a bit of time over the next two days, since there would be less to read over and memorise then. The one thing that did keep a smile on her face was that she wouldn’t be studying alone tonight. That was usually when her mind wandered off after a few hours and begged her to do something else. At least with Cole for company they could motivate each other whenever slacking off did get too out of hand.
Her smile only grew wider when she heard Cole’s voice and saw him take the seat next to her. She untangled her limbs momentarily to readjust her position so that her knees weren’t blocking him from view and then she picked her textbook back up again, light eyes flicking to the food on the table. “If that was to last all night there would be gummy bears - lots of gummy bears.” She said seriously, though she was still smiling as always. She turned the page in her textbook and chuckled softly, trying to keep in with the etiquette of the library. “But it’s so much fun! We can order pizza from my dorm, save the librarian moaning about the smell of food in the library.” She suggested, pulling a face at the mention of the forever complaining librarian. Tagged- Cole! Cole was very excited to end his Freshman year. The freshmen recieved so much teasing and criticizing, two things he definitely wouldn't miss. Plus, next year, he'd have better classes and would actually know his way around campus; it was already promising to be fun. He wouldn't be worried about making frends, either, or trying to find a stable job to keep up with his rent. Life as a sophomore was going to be great; he was already sure of it.
Out of his friends, Adora was definitely his favorite. They were similar, despite their two very different majors, and they both shared the same love for hard work and hatred for careless partying. It was part of the reason he'd happily agreed to come meet her at the library; studying was always more fun with her around. They took breaks and talked and just had a good time in general, all while getting the needed work done before the night was over. Cole preferred the company somedays, too. Even books could get lonesome after awhile, and especially during finals when every began cramming and worrying. He chose to keep calm and study the way he'd done since high school; his methods hadn't failed him yet.
Cole got comfortable in the library chair, knowing that he and Addy were going to be here for awhile. They always were, both of them having plenty of assignments to keep them busy and plenty of time to talk together. "We can make an emergency run later," he said back, just as serious. Her smile was matched by his, even as he flipped through pages to find his chapter. "Sounds great. Maybe they'll even deliver some gummy bears; save us a trip to the market," he teased with a smirk. Settling back into the chair, he laid his notebook on his knee and flickered his eyes down to his page, reading for a moment before glancing up and asking, "You been here for awhile, or just after class?" Cole looked up as he scribbled out something in his notebook, waiting for her answer before turning his attention back down to his page.

Adora’s freshman year had been pretty good, all things considered. She missed home something terrible at times, but her books were her escape from all of that when it got too much to bear. That was really the only negative about coming to school in New York for the young redhead. Finding her way around campus and making friends had been rather easy for her after the first few weeks and since then the rest of the year seemed to have flown by. Maybe there were a few comments made behind her back, or harsh words spoken about her studious nature, but Adora had developed a thick skin by now so most things simply rolled off her back and had no effect on her whatsoever; she had been bullied for much worse. Still, the promise of sophomore year set her stomach twisting into excited knots. The workload would increase for sure, but Adora was looking forward to learning more about her major and to be one step closer to achieving her dreams.
Despite her hardworking nature, Adora was quite the social butterfly. She would talk to anyone, hang out with most people and so long as she got her work done at some point there was always time for a cinema trip or a shopping adventure with her friends. Most of them didn’t share Cole’s hardworking trait, but that just meant that Adora got to spend time with him when there was work to be done and there was little chance of them both wasting the night and falling behind with their work. Plus, it was nice to talk with someone who shared the same interests that she did; most of her friends couldn’t stay awake at night just to read a book, or spend more than a few hours in the library just because they liked it in there.
She smiled across at him, pausing to scribble something in the margin of her page; there was a journal she needed to check out later, but right now she had enough to look at. “That’s if my legs work.” She joked, gesturing to the knot she was sitting in. Surprisingly, she was comfortable, but she knew only too well about how often she had tried to move from this position to find her legs had gone dead. Smiling again, a knowing twinkle shone from her light eyes. “Actually, we can get gummy bears at the dorms; there’s a small store there for late night munchies.” She wasn’t the first to use the student store for a late night chocolate run and it certainly came in handy if someone had been on a bad first date. Living in the dorms did have its perks. She was absorbed in the paragraph she was reading and taking note of when Cole spoke up next, so it took Adora a few seconds to process what he had actually said. “Oh, no. I went back to the dorms first and dropped stuff off before coming here. I was only here about twenty minutes before you.” She answered, highlighting some text on her notes page. Tagged- Cole! Cole had always preferred books to people. They didn't talk back, or ridicule you, or even make fun of you; they were safe, they were dependable. He felt most comfortable curled up with a good book, or when his head was entirely caught up in a world other than the one he lived in. When he was reading, none of New York or anywhere else existed; no family, no college, no work to do. It was pure bliss. He guessed this love was why some of the other freshman thought him strange for preferring the crisp pages to the dark nightclubs. He hadn't been to a bar all year, and he always got bored at parties; the endless drinking and sex-talk annoyed him. Many of them had given up on him having a fun-side, but it was there, just hidden and available only to those he chose to show it to. He could enjoy a night out exactly like everyone else when he wanted to, though he'd much rather spend the evening lying around with a novel.
Cole had never really had a girlfriend. He had friends who were girls, of course; actually, most of his friends were girls because they were a heck of a lot easier to get along with than guys. But, none of them had been more than friends. The ones back home thought he was a loser for not wanting to be drafted into the army like all the other guys, and the most of the ones here thought he was a nerd. Cole wasn't looking for a relationship though, or meaningless flings or dates. With how many books he read, it was no surprise that he believed love would find him when it wanted to, and that he didn't need to spend years fretting over it. When he found the right girl, he'd know, and he was going to leave it at that.
"Ah, the perks of living in a dorm building. I will say. my apartment complex doesn't offer that," he chuckled quietly, shaking his head. He wouldn't trade his apartment for the world, though, no matter how great dorm life supposedly was. He preferred his privacy and alone-time over the chaotic mess of the campus housing. "Plenty of time to get comfy, then, and stake out our spot," he said, making notes on his own text as he tried to pick out evidence for his essays. He'd read the story three times already, and, still, he didn't have a clue for what he'd base his paper on. Ah, well, the joys of being a college student.

Reading as much as she did, it was no wonder that Adora was a dreamer, despite all the hard work and effort she put into her reality. Sometimes she still slipped off into a world where things were perfect and where the books became her reality. They were more than just an escape to her, but she couldn’t really say that to anyone; not even Cole, just yet. She was a bookworm and he got that about her, but there had been too many people asking why she was like that and it was opening a whole new can of worms to explain that fairy tales and dragon slaying got her through her childhood in the hospital. Besides, it made her seem so much more naïve and if there was one thing Adora didn’t need, it was that. Just because she didn’t believe in stumbling into bed with every college guy who looked her way, the girls in her dorm were a little convinced that she was Miss Innocent and knew nothing about the real world away from her books and medical studies.
There was only one ex in Adora’s past and he was a sweet guy who had taken her to prom and stole that first honest kiss from her back in the orange groves, but their break up had been amicable when he wanted to focus on getting into college and Addy believed that her education was more important than the social conformities of high school and the hormonal peer pressure that accompanied all of it. So, really, she was a lot less in the know than most girls of her age in New York City, but that didn’t bother her. She was happy with who she was and the way she lived her life. She didn’t judge others for what they did because she didn’t think that they should judge her. It was one of Adora’s perfect ideals that would never be true or last for very long, but the optimistic redhead liked to think that it worked.
She shrugged her left shoulder and smiled softly again. Everywhere had pros and cons, really, and Adora could probably make a list if she tried about dorm life. She had enjoyed it though, but it was quickly approaching move out time and she didn’t feel as though she was ready yet. “It’s great for late night snacks and you don’t have to get changed out of your jammies to go to it.” It was literally a flight of stairs and across the hall from her room and almost everyone just went across in their comfy clothes when they needed a quick pick up. “Well, if I didn’t then we’d be sitting on the floor by the checkout desk.” She teased, flashing him a white toothy smile before looking back down at her textbook, scribbling some more and then gently placing a neon pink post it note on the page with the reference number from her shorthand. Her method of studying seemed complicated, but it was how Adora had worked since she was a kid; once this had been her only way of learning and without it she definitely wouldn’t be sitting in a university library today.

One of the reasons Cole had opted to spring for his own place was because of the move-out of the dorms at the end of the school year. He never planned on going home during summer or other holidays, like so many other students did. He wanted to stay in the city year-round, and probably even after he'd finished up school. The option of renting an apartment made so much more sense to him, especially since he enjoyed his solitude and peacefulness. Plus, this way, he could have a pet to keep him company and more than enough room for his multitude of books and scribblings.
Though, one down point of staying in the city all the time was that his friends moved off during summer. Sure, some of them stayed, but the ones like Addy returned home to spend time with their parents and families. He wasn't mad or anything; he'd heard her talk about them enough to know that she loved her parents. It was just one of the bad parts of not ever going back home; he got stuck all by himself while everyone else went home to play. Cole didn't mind, however, enjoying the time to unwind from the school year and to develop a summer reading list. Plus, he'd get to pick up more shifts at Borders and make some extra spending money for the next school year.
His eyes darted between his page and his notebook, pen flying as he wrote down a few ideas for the essay. It was going to be hard to argue, which he knew, but he was up for the challenge; he always was when it came to his major. "So when do you move out? I'm sure your parents will be happy to have you home for the summer," he said, glancing up for only a second before looking back down at his quickly-filling note page. "The spot of shame!" he chuckled back softly. He hated sitting over there because everyone either kicked you by accident, dropped something on you when checking out, or the librarian shushed you every time you breathed.

There were a number of reasons why Adora had opted for dorm life over a place of her own for her freshman year. She didn’t want her parents to worry about her as much as they would if they thought of their orange grove baby living on her own in the big bad city. Plus, she hadn’t quite felt as though she was ready to be that much of an adult this time last year. She was still so naïve and without a job secured back there, there was no guarantee that she’d make rent on time each month. Now, things were a little different, but Addy didn’t know what she was doing yet, although she’d have to work it out soon so that she could inform her boss that she wouldn’t be around for the summer rush or the new exhibit that was opening in a little over a month. She didn’t think she’d be able to find an affordable place of her own in that time to stay in New York, but she also didn’t think that her boss would hold onto her job until her return in September. She was resolved to worry about that once finals were out of the way though, as they were definitely more important at this moment in time than some job.
It was odd. Adora did want to go home and catch up with friends and family back there, but she knew that she would miss her college friends in New York too. She didn’t have anyone back in Lake County who understood her the same way that Cole did or anyone who shared her passion for reading either. Obviously she’d see him again in September but that was months away yet. Plus, she knew more people were choosing to stay in New York than travel home for the whole of summer. If she could find a place to live that Adora would just use up her vacation days at work to spend some time at home for a good few weeks and then come back to stay in the city, maybe.
Adora wrote out a paragraph on bacterial infections in her cursive form and connected it to another paragraph further down the page. She liked to write beneficial notes out like this so that if she read over them enough and memorised them well, then she could easily clone them come the final exam if they proved relevant to the topic. “Well, the dorm lease lasts right through until the date of graduation, so I have a few weeks left before they’ll be turfing me out.” She said with a warm smile as she dropped the pen to the desk so that she could free up her hands to shuffle through her books. “I’ll be heading back to the grove for a bit, but I have to work things out with my job here too and…urgh. It’s a mess.” She waved her hand and laughed, taking everything well in her stride like she always did. She pushed her red hair back from her face and groaned. “Last time I ended up there, I almost had to go to hospital; some six foot jock stood on my hand.” She glowered at the memory, flexing her now healed hand and shaking her head before dropping her attention back to her books. Cole had always been one for his own company. He enjoyed people, and had his group of friends, but, none of it stopped him from loving to spend time by himself at the end of the day. He liked coming home to an empty apartment; liked being able to fend for himself and be his own person. Living in the dorms, you had to respect your room mate, the other residents on the floor, the other people of the hall; the list went on. But, in his little apartment, he really only had himself to worry about. The neighbors, too, of course, though they were a lot more forgiving than the college students.
There really was no reason for him to return home. His mother, maybe, but even she insisted he stay safely tucked up in his New York residence. His brother had long since been transferred, having moved across the country numerous times with his wife and little daughter, so even he wasn't there for Cole to go back for. No, there wasn't anything for him back there; his life was in New York now, and that was the end of it.
"Have you thought about staying here? Finding an apartment or something?" he asked, scribbling again after he spoke. It would've been fun to have Addy in town for the summer. Maybe then they'd actually get to hang out for more than just studying; go out for lunch, see some tourist sights or something. It'd be nice to not have to worry about school while he was with her. "Yeah, a lot of jobs open up when all you dorm-kids go back home. Makes it easy to get extra shifts," he teased gently, pen still flying across the page as more ideas popped into his head. He flipped back and forth between notebook and his text book's page, gathering as much evidence to support his points as he could. "You actually saw one in the library? You should've taken a picture," he chuckled in a soft voice, shaking his head. He didn't have anything against the jocks, though it was rare to see most of them working in the library.

Being an only child, Adora sometimes found herself feeling lonely growing up. Her parents always had time for her, but sometimes she wanted someone to chase through the orange trees or watch movies with during the winter months. She had friends back home, sure, but they obviously weren’t always around for whenever Adora needed them. She felt as though she missed out on the fun that could come along with siblings, but thinking that consciously always made her feel guilty given her parent’s story and their luck at actually having Adora despite the complications. That was another contributing factor to the young redhead opting for dorms over a place of her own. She thought that perhaps the dorm life would give her that small taste of what it was like to live with people her own age, sharing the tales and moments with them in a way that couldn’t be repeated with her parents.
She still had another three years of college to go after these exams were done, but Adora knew that she was likely to stay in the city afterwards. Lake County would always be the place she called her home, but there were more opportunities for her here in New York than back there. Really, there was the grove and a few other small things that might honestly call her back there, but she’d rather escape their on vacation and relive all the wonderful memories of her youth than have it marred with the heartache that would undoubtedly come with her adulthood. Besides, it was the place where everyone knew each other and while Adora didn’t know what she would specialise in yet, she didn’t want to have to be responsible for the lives of the neighbours she knew so well, or their families.
She was chewing on the tip of her pen, her light eyes scanning the page of the book when she realised that Cole has asked her a question. “I was miles away, sorry.”She confessed with a giggle and a slight shake of her head. “I did consider it, but I left apartment hunting a bit late. I’d have loved to stick around in the city.” She shrugged lightly and sighed. She really should have sorted herself out a bit more, but she had been so preoccupied with school and her classes that housing just slipped her mind entirely until this last week or so. “Yup, and then you’ve stolen them all when we come back and need that money again.” She retorted lightly with a twinkle in her pale blue eyes. She flipped to the index to check the page number of the chapter she needed and then flicked through to it, scribbling some notes and then flipping back to where she had been previously. “I think he must’ve been lost. He left pretty quickly once he trampled over me.” She mumbled, shaking her head and sighing. Tagged- Cole! Words- 512 Lyrics- I Miss You by Blink 182 Clothes- Over hereNotes- xD [/size]

Having a sibling had never been fun for Cole. He had an older brother, one who was everything their father wanted and who was basically the golden boy at school. He did well at all the sports, got all the girls, and made okay grades; he went on to follow in their father's footsteps. This made him what Cole "should've" been, and therefore made their relationship anything but movie-worthy. They'd never been the brothers from those sappy films where everyone got along, and they sure as hell didn't look out for each other. Alec lived in the same house, and they kept in touch occasionally; that was about as far as it went.
Cole hadn't ever seen Addy as a "sister" figure. They were friends, yes, and most of his friends became close and involved. But, she'd never really fit into the sister role. He had Naia, and Rory, and a few others who all filled that category without a second though; Addy, for some reason, never seemed to belong there in his mind. Something stopped him from checking her onto that list, though Cole had no idea what this "something" was. At least, he didn't yet.
He smirked as she giggled, shrugging lightly as he answered, "You could always come stay with me. There's plenty of room in the apartment; I'll even take the couch so you can have the bed." Cole looked up from his work as he spoke, watching for her reaction to the suggestion. He'd never shared his space before, though they'd study there more than once. Oddly, he was okay with Addy living there; it didn't seem like it'd be awkward or strange. They understood eachother enough to give the other space, and it wasn't like they'd butt heads often. Maybe it'd actually be fun.
Cole let out a quiet laugh, "He probably saw the books and ran as fast as he could." He couldn't help laughing more at the thought, scribbling more notes down as he spoke. He'd have a paper pulled out of this in not time; hopefully.

Adora hadn’t needed siblings to give her a dramatic childhood, she had that already thanks to the countless hospital trips and moments in school when her asthma had sent the teacher’s into a small panic. Even now, if she got sick it was a lot more severe than most of her classmates. Maybe that alone should’ve made her choose another career path, but Addy wanted to be a doctor and prove that her early start in the world wasn’t something that would ruin her life. She was much stronger now than when she was a child and she took care of herself to keep it that way, with vitamins, exercise and keeping on top of her jabs and immunisations. Still, that wasn’t something she paraded around about; it wasn’t an excuse for her anymore and really, the only obvious side effect of it was her asthma, which wasn’t so easy to hide as all the rest was.
She still didn’t let any of that affect her lifestyle in New York though. She spent time with her friends and hung out frequently in many of the places that the city offered that Lake County did not. She still longed to get lost in the trees she associated with home, but ever since she had met Cole, she didn’t feel so much like an outcast for reading like she did; finding her personal escape between the pages of a well written novel. She didn’t see him in the same light as her other friends, but then her other friends didn’t think a study session in the library was an idea of a good time.
Adora froze, flicking her blue eyes across to meet his as she processed his suggestion. “I couldn’t kick you out of your own bed.” She said simply enough, although the idea to stay with him in New York was incredibly tempting. At least then she could see him outside of school and they wouldn’t have to cram their adventures into a short week or something if she came back to visit. She wasn’t going to steal his bed though and have the poor guy relegated to his own couch. “I could get one of those air mattresses though!” She suggested, her eyes wide at the idea. So long as the floor was vacuumed regularly, it wouldn’t be a problem and she always found them to be surprisingly comfortable.
She laughed a little louder than she intended to and placed her hand over her mouth, pinching her lips together until she regained some control over herself. Then, she reached out and playfully slapped Cole’s arm. “Don’t be mean!” She scolded lightly, though the smirk still danced on her lips for a second longer before she turned back to her books and the reason she was there in the first place. One of the reasons Cole liked New York was because of its possibilities. You could be whoever you wanted here, and no one would be able to tell you otherwise unless they did some serious digging. He could've been the kid who'd abandoned money, or who was being supported by a rich relation. He could've charmed women and made a name for himself in some theatre or other; he could've been anything here. Of course, he had stuck with his true story, but that didn't mean he was blinded to everything the Big Apple had to offer. It held so much freedom and promise that he couldn't imagine abandoning it for a few months, even if it was only for summer vacation.
A wicked spark flickered into Cole's eyes at his answer, and he couldn't keep the smirk off his face. "Well, we could always sleep together, but that may look bad," he joked, ducking his attention back to his school work. "But, seriously, come stay with me for awhile. You'll get to keep your job for next year, and New York becomes a whole different place when the tourists roll in," he said. He had experienced this a year ago, when he'd arrived early for the school year. Back then, he was also considered a "tourist," though that'd quickly work off within his second week. It was still amusing to watch the newbies, however, and definitely a sport he looked forward to witnessing again. "What do you say to it, Addy? I'd even help you move out of the dorms," he said, giving her a joking puppy-dog face.
Cole didn't know why he wanted her to stay so badly, but New York seemed to lose some of its charm with the idea of her going home. They were relatively close friends, and there was no doubt about the fun adventures they'd have if she stayed. Living together may change their relationship entirely, but, strangely, he didn't mind; he wanted to see where this could all go.

What was nice about New York was that no one knew who Adora was or where she came from. Back in Lake County everyone knew of her parent’s struggle to conceive a child and so they also knew of Addy’s early arrival in the world and all the troubles it brought and the troubles she recovered from. It was nice to leave in a place where people cared so much, but it did get tedious telling people time and time again about the last hospital visit or how she could do everything the other kids her age could do. In New York no one knew that she was a premature baby or that hours of tutoring had been the only way she had been able to go from the bottom of her class right the way to the top or that she had been sick several times throughout her life. New York was where she claimed her independence and proved that she could manage on her own. She had lasted the whole of her freshman year without needing help and that was a much bigger accomplishment than some in Lake County expected from her; they thought she’d be home in the winter, coughing and wheezing, in need of her parents.
Her pale skin flushed almost ruby red at his words and she wished her hair was down to hide her burning cheeks. Adora was entirely innocent and possibly a little more on the naïve side than some of the girls in the dorms were. She did trust Cole enough to live with him though and she knew he was only joking about the matter, using the deliberate phrasing to make it work. “Who’s going to be in your bedroom to see?” She asked suddenly, not understanding how anyone would know who Cole ever shared a bed with. That might bring up another problem though; what if Cole started dating someone? Surely they wouldn’t be thrilled with him sharing his apartment with another girl. “I caught a glimpse of the tourist spree when I moved down last summer. But if you’re sure about this, then thanks.” She smiled across at him and then glanced back down to her work, though she couldn’t focus on it now. Looking back across at her dark haired friend, Addy grinned, showing her pearly whites. “Well, you are trained to carry lots of books.” She didn’t have too many things of her own in the dorm, but there were piles of books that she needed to find boxes for to box up before any moving out commenced.
This decision might change a lot about their relationship. They could fall out, grow closer or reach the point where they would barely speak to each other. Adora had a lot of hope that things would work out for them if they did spend the summer living together until she could find a place of her own. She enjoyed Cole’s company far too much to lose it.
