Maddie entered the building to her and her sisters New York apartment. She sighed, carrying her bag, thinking about the day that had just passed, and the events that had happened. " I wonder if Rina is home?" She asked herself walking to the elevator. She smiled as she entered the elevator, greeting the elevator man whom she had yet to discover his name. "What floor Miss?" He said it in a very polite tone. He was kindof cute now that she looked at him. Probably in his late 20's. "Oh, uhm, penthouse please." She smiled lightly to his, shying away from the question she had been wondering. As she heard the beeping of the elevator as it began to shift upwards, she looked over to him. "Uhm, since we might see alot of eachother, what's your name?" Her voice was quiet as she spoke, and waited to see if he would answer. "Oh, my name is Freddy, what about yours?" Maddie felt herself blush as she told him her name, and as the ding of the bell announced their arrival to her penthouse apartment she nodded her goodbye and listened as Freddy, the elevator man said, "Have a great day Miss Maddie."
She stormed in the door, blushing a bright pink. Instantly, she ran to her room and closed the door. "Great, I meet some random guy at school and now, all of a sudden I have the balls to talk to every man on earth?!" She shook her head at herself and put her bag down on her bed. She layed herself down for a moment, her feet dangling off of the bed. She felt her hands lay on her face as she let out a slight giggle. "Who are you?" She sighed and pushed herself off of the bed. "I must inform Rina of my newly found personality. She won't believe I actually talked to two guys in one day!" She sighed and left the room, heading towards the kitchen.
She opened the fridge door and pulled out chocolate milk and the random cookie dough they bought to make cookies, but never did. She poured two glasses, and grabbed two spoons. When Maddie pulled out the chocolate milk and random munchies, she usually meant business. She hoped her sister was home. Putting down the glasses of chocolate milk, the cookie dough, and the spoons, she went over to Sorina's door. "Rina.. Are you home? I need to talk to you.. Something weird is happening to me I think." Her voice sounded serious, and she thought that Sorina would probably think the worst. She giggled silently as she remembered the time she told Rina about her period. It happened when they still lived with their parents, and Rina had just graduated school. She was 10 then, and now, she was 18, she couldn't imagine what Rina was going to think. She stood outside of the door, listening carefully for any movement. She hoped she didn't interrupt her sleep or anything.

The day Maddie said she wanted to go to NYU and stay with Rina, the older blonde had been ecstatic about it. She adored her sister and since her childhood, Rina hadn’t really been able to spend as much time with her little sister as she would have liked. The girls were close enough growing up. Rina would be away, sometimes with their mother, sometimes alone, but she always called Maddie, every day and stayed on the phone as long as she could. And she always brought something home for the younger blonde when she did get back; just a little something from all the places she’d been. Rina always felt like Maddie was the one who had it the hardest. She only had their father while their mother stayed at the hospital for the most part. And for the longest time, Maddie and Rina hadn’t even been able to see each other at all because of the treatments. It was hard on the entire family, but Rina had an exceptional bill of health, considering her turbulent past, and they were closer than ever, living together!
Rina still felt bad though, leaving her sister alone with the pets and the plants for long periods of time while she travelled for work. She wished she could stay around a lot more, but that was how she made a living, it was how she had been able to buy the beautiful, huge penthouse apartment they shared; how she paid for the furniture, clothes bills. Plus, she loved what she did. She got to see so many different and beautiful places. She got to meet amazing people and eventually, she would be able to help the way she wanted to. It was all part of the plan she’d made when she was still stuck in hospital, practically glued to her bed. There had never been a moment of ‘if’ for the little girl who was losing her hair; it had always been a matter of ‘when’. When she was all better, she would do this and that. When she was better she would return to that hospital and help those little kids in there then; help them to fight for their lives and be a spokesperson for AML. Bring some awareness to the world.
Checking the time on her phone, Rina packed up her things and headed for the information desk of the school’s library. She had needed some books for a research project she was doing for a class; the final project in fact. And while she’d been there, she had just decided to take a seat and start in on some notes. She was almost done that project, just needed some little bits of information here and there and then she could submit it but she had to find the right book for it first and the ones sitting next to her on the table were her last hope. At the sign out, she checked the time again and mentally swore. She was supposed to be online in twenty minutes to see Andrew and she hardly lived that close to the school’s library. She really missed him since she’d left him in Italy. It had been a little over a month now and she couldn’t wait until she got to see him again. She drove home with the music a bit too loud to drown out the city’s noise and hoped she made it home on time. She’d tossed her things in the very back of her car, so texting Andrew at a red light wasn’t an option.
Rina parked her car, grabbed her things and locked it up before greeting the doorman like usual and asking about his granddaughter. Rina enjoyed chatting with the older man and would usually bring him a coffee if she’d stopped herself, but this time she was in a rush and hadn’t stopped at all. Thomas smiled, told her his grandbaby was doing well, turning seven in a little over two weeks and asked how the mystery man was in Rina’s life. Rina had blushed. She hadn’t said anything but Thomas had known the minute Rina had stepped from the black car she’d hired. Hell, even Maddie didn’t know about Andrew, but the doorman did! Rina told him Andrew was well and she was rushing home to chat with him online. After that, Thomas shooed her along, telling her she couldn’t keep the man waiting and she was gone. She also chatted with Freddie, laughing and goofing around good-naturedly. He was new and young, but he was nice, friendly and in the short time he’d been working in the building, he knew pretty much everything there was to know. People forgot he was there because he was so quiet, so they talked openly on the phone and such.
They exchanged gossip before the elevator dinged, the doors opened and Rina said goodbye. The TV wasn’t on and there was no music playing so Maddie couldn’t be home. Having the place to herself seemed rare but Rina didn’t mind the quiet. She plugged her iPod into the docking station, selecting a playlist and just letting it run. She dropped her bags and books in her room, retrieving her laptop and bringing it with her to the kitchen. She booted it up, started up the program when it was ready and waiting for the familiar annoying ring of a phone call coming through. She wished she could change the tone, but it was set in stone. She was rummaging through the refrigerator when it started the usual ring. She shut the door, taking with her the water jug and a container of mixed fruit. Sitting, she hit answer.
An hour later, Rina said goodbye and signed off. She had classwork she needed to get done and it would stay unfinished if she stayed online any longer. She cleaned up her mess, putting the container still half full of fruit back into the fridge along with the water jug she used yet again to fill her bottle. Taking the water bottle, laptop and iPod with her, Rina went back to her room to start on the notes she needed. If it wouldn’t have been a useless waste of money, Rina would have just stopped at Border’s and picked up the books there; at least then she could highlight the hell out of the book. But she only needed it for reference for this single project and the book from the library was perfect for that. She hadn’t heard Maddie come home, being too busy filling up pages of notes. “I’ll be out in a second! Kitchen?” she called, asking if there would be alright to talk. She needed more water anyway, having finished off the bottle she’d brought in with her. She didn’t know how long she’d been in the room, but she had quite a few notes made, probably more than enough to get her through this project and then some.
She bookmarked pages, in case something happened at they closed, then wiggled her feet out from under Tails body to stand. He always fell asleep right on her feet if she was at the desk and stayed there well after she left. Rina kept the bedroom door open an inch so her Aussie shepherd could get out if he wanted and went straight to the kitchen island where she took the same seat she had earlier talking to Andrew. She’d been texting him while she was doing her work, laughing that even half way across the world if she was stumped, she could ask him. She left her phone in her room so if he did text back, she wouldn’t get it until later but she would explain then if she felt it necessary. “Cookie dough and chocolate milk?” Rina asked, looking at the island and the treats it held. “This can’t be good,” She added, picking up a spoon.

As she waited for her sister to answer, she stood by the door. She felt her hands link together as she rocked slightly back and forth. It was an odd turn of events for her today, and she did always enjoy talking with her sister. They had hanged alot since they were kids, always on the phone with eachother, but now, they could talk in person. She loved speaking with her sister, there was no one else like her. Maddie looked up to Sorina a great deal, and constantly valued her opinions on certain matters. She wasn't exactly sure what she would say to Rina, but she knew that once they started, it would just flow. The starting of a conversation was always the worst for her to manage, she was terrible at it, but perhaps this new found personality would give her just what she needed to be more confident in her conversation, as well as her as her own person as well.
As Rina answered, Maddie smiled. 'Thank Goodness she's home.' It was strange. Rina constantly travelled, she was on the go basically 24/7, and Maddie didn't see her very often. But it always seemed when Maddie needed her the most, she was always there, like some strange intuition she had subconciously or something. She was very grateful for her sister's intuition though, because if she didn't have Rina, she didn't know what she would do. She'd probably be stuck working at the nearest corner store back home, instead of furthering her dance career and doing what she loved. She loved her home, and her parents, but she felt as though she would die if she weren't here, touching base with the outside world, seeing the many sights of New york and purely just loving life. She was growing more here than she ever had in her previous 18 years of life at home. She felt as though she was ready to experience the crazy wonders of life. She wanted, and decided that she would live the life she had always dreamed of. One with boys, and alcohol, two things she'd never touch before. She wanted to go to parties, and have lots of friends. She wanted nothing more to be apart of the young adult scene, full of mystery and needs to rebel, and all sorts of thngs that she'd never wish to experience before. But that, she would keep away from Sorina for now.
Maddie's face beamed a smile at her sister and as she grabbed a spoon, speaking, Maddie let out a small giggle. "Oh, I assure you, it's good. In fact, you might even be proud of me." She grabbed a spoon, dug it into the cookie dough and let out a long sigh as she ate it. She breathed in as she swallowed and looked up at her big sister. "I met someone, at school today." She felt her breathing stop for a moment and then she blew out again, continuing. "It wasn't anything spectacular. He's an art student, and he's drawing me for his final exam." She looked at her sister and then shook her head. "And now, I talk to every man I see! Did you know the eleveator guys name is Freddy? I didn't! Rina! I don't know whats wrong with me!" Okay, so she was a little bit dramatic at the moment, shovelling her mouth with cookie dough and swallowing it down with chocolate milk. Why did life have to be so wierdly stressful? She blew out a long sigh, looking down at the counter. "It's like I changed all of a sudden."
