Adora carried the last of the boxes in her arms, the heavy books inside pressed against her torso as she balanced it against herself, making her way down the hallway to the open door that was Cole’s apartment and her temporary home. Finding a space that wouldn’t block their paths, she dropped the box carefully to the floor and then reached for the inhaler inside the pocket of her plaid shirt. She didn’t mind the hard work on the humid afternoon, but it was playing havoc with her asthma. The redhead didn’t want Cole doing all the work though, so she just puffed on the medicine and got on with her. She was glad the heavy lifting was over though now; unpacking would be a lot easier on the eighteen year old and she could take her time with it.
She was looking forward to spending the summer in the city. She’d head home for a week or two towards the end, but right now she could focus on keeping her job, getting ready for her sophomore year and just relax with Cole for her primary company. Her parents had been a little apprehensive of their daughter moving in with some ‘strange boy’, but they trusted Adora’s judgement enough to know that she wouldn’t do anything stupid or stay with someone she didn’t trust. She was looking forward to knowing Cole outside of a school environment too; secretly curious about what he was like when they didn’t have schoolwork to keep them busy.
Getting her breathing back into a regular rhythm, Adora pocketed her blue inhaler and fixed the headband on her head. She looked around for the guy who was now her new roommate, unsure of where he had gotten to since she had been so occupied hauling boxes up that she barely noticed when he had been talking to her. It was taking a lot out of her, pushing her to the limit, but she wanted to do most of it alone. She was already going to be invading his home for the summer months until she got a place of her own and she didn’t want to burden him with all of her work too when it came to moving everything in. Her clothes and shoes were in the cases and the boxes held a few of her trinkets and the likes of her mirror and toiletries, but mainly they carried her books and DVD’s that had occupied the shelves in her dorm room at the university. She still felt as though she was just a guest in Cole’s home and didn’t want to walk into his bedroom in case he was busy or taking a shower, so she awkwardly stood next to the pile of boxes, twisting her thick hair around her fingers over and over whilst biting down on her lip, thinking about what she should do now, or if any of her things had a new home yet; she didn’t want to take over Cole’s space when he had been nice enough to let her stay in the first place.

Cole had woken up that morning with a smile wide on his face. Today was the day Adora was moving into his apartment for the summer, and he'd couldn't be more excited about that. He was looking forward to having company around the empty place, though he was wondering how they were going to fit all of their things into the tiny space. It was made for one person; one bedroom, one bathroom, a tiny area for a couch and TV, and a pocket-sized kitchen. There wasn't much room for more, between his belongings, Kipp's cage, and his library's-worth of books, but, he had been trying to cram together his things since Addy agreed to spend the summer with him. He'd done his best, hiding some of the more unused or worthless items down in his storage cage in the basement of the building, but, still it was small; he just hoped she didn't mind being a bit cramped.
He helped her heft all of her boxes up to his floor, sighing with relief when she went down to grab the last one. They'd made quite a few trips back and forth now, and he was very ready to just crash on the couch with an ice cold drink and recover from it all. Cole may not've been the one with asthma, but this would take a lot of out anyone. As it was, he left the door open for Addy, going into the living room and taking out his previous roommate; the infamous Kipper. The little ferret climbed its way onto Cole's shoulder, his favorite perch, as Cole went about finding a take-out menu to order dinner. They'd need a pizza to survive all the unpacking, plus, they'd definitely earned it after their afternoon of hard work.
Cole emerged from behind a large stack of boxes, menu in his hand and ferret on his arm as Addy came back in. "Finally," he grinned, holding up the piece of colored paper between his fingers. "Should we get a pizza before we start attacking all of these? I'm starving after all this," he said, giving her another smile. He wanted this to work; them living together. He needed a friend around here, and Addy had slipped into the spot before he could even protest.

Adora didn’t need much room to herself. She might’ve been an only child in a relatively large house, but she had never been the kind to leave things lying about and she didn’t have tons of stuff that needed to take up a ridiculous amount of room back home or in New York. She knew that the pair would trip over each other in the first few weeks of living together until they found their bearings in the small apartment, but she didn’t mind that, not when Cole was allowing her to stay in his home. There was still so much to sort out and things to get used to about living together, but that sort of thing only came with time and they had all of summer to adjust to this arrangement. Addy already had a storage space in the city registered under her name. It wasn’t one of those big fancy containers, in fact, it was quite tiny, but there was room left in it for some of her things if they didn’t fit in the apartment; it wasn’t like she actually needed all of her books, she just hadn’t had the time to pick and choose between them all when her life revolved around finals and packing.
She didn’t mind sacrificing some of her things to that container; there was already a box of pots and pans in there along with a bike that she didn’t ride in the city but had brought with her in case she went somewhere where she could enjoy the clean country air. She was excited to find a place of her own though soon, because it meant she could collect Odette from the Orange Grove and have a furry roommate of her own! She missed the puppy so much living in the dorms, but the hope of a place to call her own meant that the white furred fluffball could join her again and chew through another pair of shoes Adora had never really been attached to in the first place. She wasn’t obsessed like some girls were with clothes or shoes; she could enjoy a good shopping spree, but often spent more of her money on books that she did items of clothing.
Brushing the ginger hair from her face she smiled across at Cole and let out a relieved sigh. She was so happy there were no more boxes to carry up flights of stairs or drag across hallways now. “Yes! I am dying for something to eat and I’m not in the mood to cook.” Normally she enjoyed spending time in the kitchen whipping up a nice home-cooked meal, but not after a day like today when her inhaler had made more guest appearances than she would’ve liked. At least all the heavy lifting was done now and she wasn’t about to put her body through anything as gruelling again today! Tagged- Cole! Since moving into his own apartment, Cole hadn't exactly been the ideal Mr Clean. The only thing he scrubbed and cleaned regularly was Kipp's cage, and that was only because the little guy got mad and made even more of a mess if he didn't switch the bedding out weekly. But, other than that little guy, Cole didn't have a set cleaning system. He didn't leave trash piling up around the place, but the apartment was far from being completely organized and spotless. Books were usually piled up on the coffee table, or in other odd nooks; bills typically lay scattered across the kitchen counter. It was the abode of a college boy, to say the least, but it was still tidy by some people's standards. It didn't look as messy as usual thanks to his recent cleaning spree, though it'd no doubt be back to some form of normal once Addy was settled in and they'd gotten her things into their new homes. For now, the place was just packed full of boxes and bags waiting to be sorted through.
Cole's kitchen was more decoration than actual use. He heated frozen meals up in the microwave or oven, but, rarely, did he actually set out to cook something fresh for himself. Eggs or rice, or maybe a chicken breast if he was feeling adventurous, but nothing fancy; he didn't have the time or money to be whipping up huge meals when he'd be the only one there to eat it. Maybe, since there was someone else to help devour the food, he'd try his hands at actual food. But, for right now, a pizza sounded better than any huge homecooked feast.
He handed her the menu and closed the apartment door, just to give the room back some form of its privacy. The walls were paper thin around here, but, at least they wouldn't have any curious neighbors peeking in on the new rooming arrangements. "Pick something out and I'll find the phone so we can call. Kipp needs dinner first though, so it may be a minute. If you can find the couch, I'll meet you there," he said teasingly, already weaving back through the boxes towards the living room and Kipper's fairly large cage. The ferret leaped back into its cage as Cole bent over to grab his bag of food, and Cole filled the empty dish quickly, grabbing the water bottle out to get him a fresh one as well. This little animal was his friend long before Addy was and, even if it was a bit odd to some, he fussed over the pet like any worrisome parent. Cole went into the kitchen and filled the bottle with water, grabbing an ice cube from the freezer to pop in there before returning it to Kipp's cage. "Made up your mind yet? The cheese one's great, but the house specialty pizza's one of my favorites," he called out to Addy.

The one thing Adora didn’t mind doing was cleaning up. She actually enjoyed getting into her old clothes and having a good clean of a Saturday morning. She had clutter and organised chaos of her own, but she was a very clean person aside from that. It was something that had come from her childhood and being prone to getting sick more easily than most thanks to her sub-par immune system. So now it was more of a habit than anything else, but she had been healthy for a while now and didn’t want to jinx it by slacking off. The redhead didn’t mind cleaning up after Cole either since it was really for her own benefit that she scrubbed everything clean in the manner that she did. The girls who lived in the dorms used to say she’d make a great roommate since she did put so much effort into keeping the place tidy. Mornings when she scraped her hair back into a messy knot and donned the rubber gloves were actually therapeutic for her in some ways and helped her let out any of the stresses from the week.
Back in her days in the dorm, Addy mainly lived off simple dishes that took up very little of her time, only because of the basics of their little kitchenette area and the amount of people trying to use it. She found time here and there to make a decent meal for some of the girls, but really it was more of a convenience diet she had back then, supported with many vitamins and supplements to ensure that she was receiving everything her body needed; she didn’t need another lecture from the campus doctor!
Peering over the menu, Adora had to stop herself and remember that she was in a box fort before she tumbled right over one on her way to the couch. Give the girl something to read and she would manage to leave this world entirely for whatever was on the bit of paper in front of her, even if it was just a take-out menu! “If you hear a crash, it’s probably just me losing a fight to a box!” She called after him, ignoring the menu until she was sitting on the couch, her shoes on the floor and feet tucked up underneath her. Adora toyed with the necklace around her neck, one she’d had since her sixteenth birthday, and ruled out the pizzas she didn’t want one by one. Her head snapped up at the sound of Cole’s voice and she smiled to herself as she flicked her pale eyes back down to the menu in hand. “The house specialty just caught my eye a second ago, but I’ve already passed on the cheese!” She replied, mentally deciding that the house specialty was probably the winner. As for the cheese, Adora had found out a few years back that overly cheesy dishes of any kind did not settle well with her and she spent most of the time afterwards nursing a stomach ache and the feeling of nausea; not exactly the best way to start the first night with her new roommate.
