Apparently, bringing Mike to the apartment for a movie night was too intimidating an idea to Ellie who had quickly coerced Zoe into siding with her. This was how the slightly grumpy graduate had found himself in the ticket queue at the Tribeca, while his girlfriend waited by the door for the two sixteen year olds to show up. Romeo didn’t see the difference between movie night and take-out at the apartment and this venture to the cinema followed by a pizza, but apparently there was one. Ellie had told him that he couldn’t badger and interrogate Mike if they were in the cinema; something she’d suspected he’d do if they spent the night at home in their small apartment.
Romeo had already met the kid though and he seemed okay. The messy haired Englishman just wasn’t about to trust him quite so easily. He didn’t want to see Ellie hurt and right now she was ridiculously happy; if she broke then Romeo didn’t quite know what he’d do, but he could promise there would be a sixteen year old with a black eye come the next morning at school. He might have been a responsible adult and Ellie’s legal guardian, but he would always be the big brother first and that meant chasing away and hurting those who hurt her; no matter what.
He stepped closer to the desk and glanced around for any sign of his sister in the crowds. He could still see Zoe by the door, but she was alone for now. He might have arrived a little bit early, but he was worried like any big brother would be and Romeo couldn’t switch off that protective instinct that he’d had for Ellie’s entire life. He smiled at the young man behind the ticket desk and requested the four tickets he needed as he pulled out his wallet. It was a good thing they had all been able to compromise on a movie or else someone would have been spending the next two hours wishing they were somewhere else.
By the time the young student had pulled off the tickets and handed Romeo the loose change, the cinema seemed busier and he had to weave through the building crowd to reach his girlfriend, who was now accompanied by the happy teenagers. Romeo’s arm wrapped instinctively around Zoe’s waist and he flashed the tickets at the three of them. “I got the tickets, so you’re gettin’ the popcorn.”
He said, using the pieces of paper to hit Ellie on the nose. Hey, she wanted a double date with her brother so she would have to deal with the brotherly teasing and games that Romeo always played with her. He grinned and pressed a soft kiss to Zoe’s head. “We’ve still got twenty minutes before the film.” He glanced towards the snack stand line and probably wouldn’t be surprised if they spent all that time waiting for popcorn. Zoe couldn't help being amused by the way Romeo was taking Ellie's adventures into dating. She was protective of the girl, too, and didn't want to see her heart broken, but, she was cutting the girl some slack and at least not butting into the relationship too badly. He, on the other hand, seemed to be getting worse with each date the girl went out on. Tonight, hopefully, he wouldn't be terrible because they were both going out with the new couple. Zoe was excited for the chance to spend time with Ellie, and see how Mike treated her, but she was also looking forward to spending a little time with her own boyfriend. They didn't get enough of it, and, even if they would be with the "kids," an actual date night was sure to be fun.
She peeked out the movie theatre doors, eyes staring absently out at the sidewalk. They'd be here soon enough; Romeo was just too freaked out about all of it. Zoe leaned against the door, a smile lighting her face as she finally saw them come strolling down the street. She opened the door for them, and pulled Ellie into a quick hug, chatting with them as Romeo made his way back over to the group. She gave Mike a few quick tips on how to avoid the brotherly glares, turning her halo back on as her boyfriend's arm went around her waist. She fit herself against his side like always, not filtering the PDA at all. Besides, the other couple was sure to do something romantic at one point, and Zoe didn't want them to feel awkward tonight.
She crinkled her nose as Romeo kissed it, reaching up to peck his cheek before untangling herself from him and grabbing his hand. "I want somethin' chocolate. C'mon," she smirked, pulling him towards the snack line. He could make Ellie pay for whatever he liked this evening; he'd still get rooked into buying Zoe some sweet treat or other, like usual. Besides, it'd been a long time since she'd been to a movie, and she wanted to go all out for the special occasion.

Romeo felt like he had every right to be protective over Ellie; it was what he had done for the last sixteen years after all. It didn’t matter how old she got, he would always be there to play the role of big brother whenever she did or didn’t need him. Zoe could remind him all she liked about the fact that Ellie was bound to get hurt and make mistakes at some point in her life, but Romeo wanted to be there for her so that when it happened he knew exactly which guy was getting his face smashed in to stop him from repeating those actions ever again. He didn’t even care about the movie they were seeing, there would be one eye firmly fixed on the younger male of the group throughout the evening.
With Zoe’s hand in his, he moved towards the snack line, making sure to keep the tickets for the movie safe as they joined the hoard of people demanding snacks before they entered the various screening theatres. “Remember, I like it sweet not salted.”
He said over his shoulder to his little sister, who still seemed to look awkward with this whole arrangement for the evening. Romeo had promised to behave tonight and he would keep his word whenever either of the girls were around. “What do y’ want, love?” He asked Zoe, pulling her closer to his side again as he reached for the wallet that was safely tucked into the pocket of his jeans. He had enough cash on him to treat his girlfriend, but he’d probably have to hit up an ATM if they all planned on doing anything else afterwards. There hadn’t been enough time between finishing his shift at Borders and getting home to really think about the amount of money he had on his person. He glanced back at the younger couple, his green eyes momentarily flicking down to Ellie’s hand wrapped tightly with Mike’s. The young boy made her happy for now, but Romeo wasn’t about to let his guard down around the kid, or any boy in Ellie’s life. Stepping up to the counter, he leaned on the surface casually and ordered a soda each for him and Zoe and then looked at his pretty girlfriend to place her order. Ellie was getting the popcorn he wanted, regardless of how much she tried to protest. As the big brother in her life it was also Romeo’s duty to embarrass the poor girl and a busy cinema seemed like the perfect place to bring the heated blush to Ellie’s pale cheeks, if she wasn’t careful. Zoe was scared of what Romeo would do to Mike if the guys were left alone, even if it was only a few minutes while the girls went to check their hair and makeup in the bathroom. She almost felt bad for the boy, though she'd be just as upset as Romeo if he hurt Ellie in any way possible. Eventually, she knew a heartbreak would come, and it'd probably result in a night of ice cream, chick flicks, and lots of tissues. But, that could be worried about later. For tonight, Zoe was concerned with keeping Romeo in check so Ellie could have some sort of fun this evening.
She rolled her eyes at Romeo's joking, elbowing his side lightly. "Ya make it sound like yer the only one who's gonna eat it," she said. Zoe kept close to his side, not hesitant in the slightest despite the younger couple behind them. Mike was going to have to get used to this anyways if Ellie planned to keep him around, and, the sooner he did, the sooner their lives would be a lot less awkward. "Reese's and some of those chocolate ice cream things. Maybe I'll share if ya behave," she teased, smirking up at him and standing on her tip toes to steal an innocent kiss.
Zoe ordered her food after Romeo and let him pay. She'd find a way to repay him for it later; they went back and forth all the time. Tonight, she figured she'd let her boyfriend set a somewhat decent example for the younger way, and, whether he liked it or not, paying for dates was definitely part of a boyfriend's job. Zoe took her soda and treats, sipping on her drink while the younger couple got their snacks and Romeo's popcorn. They were adorable together; adorable, and most likely frightened for their lives at the moment. She couldn't wait to hear what Ellie had to say after all of this was over.

Romeo knew very little about this Mike. Ellie had been dodging most of the questions or throwing him vague answers whenever he asked her about him, which really only aggravated the situation. It wasn’t like Romeo was going to threaten the kid or maim him if he found something out, but the less he knew the less he could trust the guy. It really was as simple as that, but Ellie didn’t seem to think so, despite everything her big brother told her. He just didn’t want something bad to happen because of something so stupid and small. Besides, he was fairly certain that every sixteen year old boy needed their ego knocking down a little bit; it wasn’t all that long since he had been that age and he remembered it all too well.
Looking down at Zoe, Romeo shrugged, keeping the small smirk dancing on his lips. “Well if it’s salted then I’m not goin’ t’ eat it. An’ I’m ‘ungry.”
He told her simply enough, lightly grabbing at her side. He stole a quick glance at the teenagers behind them, his eyes ever watchful over the young couple. He wanted to see how well Mike treated his little sister when he didn’t think Romeo was watching. Anything slightly inappropriate or less than polite and he could be certain that the hot-headed Scouser would make a show out of the kid. Chuckling at Zoe, Romeo shook his head as he handed the cash over and passed her food to her. “You an’ your bloody sweet tooth.” He smirked, taking a sip from the large soda he had ordered before stepping back and turning to fix his eyes on Ellie and Mike once more. Once the younger couple had been served, Romeo took his popcorn from Ellie and teasingly ruffled her hair like he always had done. This might have been a date night for her, too, but if she was going to have a relationship with this kid then he was going to see the brother-sister bond they had, even if it embarrassed the hell out of the young brunette. After all, he had more functions as the big brother than just to be overprotective over Ellie. “Okay, c’mon before we get stuck with the screamin’ teenage girls.” Romeo hated that about coming to the cinema and if it happened tonight it would only annoy him and that was the last thing he needed to be. Handing their tickets over and nodded at the usual instructions from the usher, Romeo moved to the middle and then gestured to the row on his right before letting Ellie and Mike slide in first; he could keep his eye on them better this way.
