Rina felt terrible that she’d spent nearly the entire flight finishing up her homework. She kept up an easy conversation, even joking that multitasking was her super power. She was still surprised that Andrew agreed to come back to New York with her. She thought for sure he would try and turn her down as nicely as possible, say he wasn’t ready to go back home yet, which she understood completely and instead make plans to meet up somewhere else. She liked Andrew, enough to keep up living half her time in a sardine can with wings and an engine, picking up a days’ worth of work here and there with the contacts she had. But even she could admit that she couldn’t do it forever. And Rina honestly thought they would be keeping this up for some time which was why she was so shocked when he agreed to go back home with her and accompany her to the masquerade ball. The ball was getting closer and closer and the pretty blonde model was more excited by the minute to dress up in the silver grey strapless dress and the pretty mask she’d dragged Andrew around Paris to buy one day. And now she could drag him to one more place, only this time in their city; though technically her second home.
She had made arrangements with Lexi through texts and e-mails. The other girl was already taking care of pets whenever Sorina had to jet off somewhere for a job so she already had the spare key, plus Maddie was there if she forgot her key. Rina didn’t know what she was going to say to her little sister. She hadn’t said anything about Andrew to her, not mentioning him in the chance that things between them didn’t go further than they had. And then they did so she would have to tell her little sister something; she just didn’t know what yet. It would have to be soon since Andrew was staying with them for the foreseeable future. She had offered because she knew how much he didn’t want to go back to the apartment he shared with his sister and her friend. Rina was happy to be on land again though. She enjoyed flying just fine, but she wished those flights went a little faster. There wasn’t anything to do on an airplane and she had the potential to get bored very easily.
“Welcome home,” she said as the plane’s wheels hit the runway underneath them, leaning over to press a quick kiss to Andrew’s cheek. He had to be nervous about being back in the city. When she’d made arrangements with Lexi to drop off some small things, she’d made another call to her usual car company so someone would be waiting for them when they landed. Customs annoyed Rina more than it should but they moved through the area quickly and the pair was in the arrivals bay, seeking out a man in a nice suit, holding a dry erase board with her last name on it. Rina spotted it first, pointing in the direction of her misspelt surname. “And they still can’t get it right,” she said on a sigh, rolling her eyes. “Next time, I’m using your name,” she said, smiling up at the man next to her. With the driver taking their cart of bags, Rina linked her fingers with his and followed the sharply dressed man outside in the sunny New York atmosphere. She had missed New York even though it really hadn’t been that long since she’d left.

Andrew did not want to be back in New York. He didn't want to face his father, or his sister, or the company he was supposed to be running; he wanted to go back to Europe and continue tramping around the continent with Rina by his side. It wasn't fair on her to make her fly back and forth, which he very well knew, but he hadn't been ready to come back yet; it was just easier to stay hidden away and keep their romance there, as well. Now, he was home though, and he was going to have to go back to everything that New York held for him. It was terrifying, especially after being gone so long. Everyone probably thought he'd gotten lost in some jungle, or had been killed while stumbling around drunk in an alley. Honestly, he'd rather have them think that than come back to all the cheering over his life. He could already see his mother's tears and his father's stern, but thankful, glare; it was a scene he didn't really want to live through. But, he was going through with it for Rina. She had asked him to come back for this party, and he couldn't say no to her sweet little smile. Besides, it'd be fun living with her; they'd get to spend more time together without being drawn out by the tourist sights or her having to catch a flight. They'd get to be normal, which was hard to do in Europe, and he was looking forward to that.
Gently, Andrew pulled Rina's face back to his and stole a real kiss, his lips pressed to hers for a long moment before they had to get off the plane. "Home. Yeah," he sighed heavily. He kept close to her in the airport, grabbing their luggage and following her towards the people waiting with fancy cards. He chuckled at her, giving her hand a light squeeze and reaching down to peck her forehead. "Hopefully, there won't be a next time for awhile," he said with another laugh. Andrew wrapped his arm around Rina as the man took their bags, tucking her close against his side while they walked outside. It felt good to be back in the big city, but Andrew couldn't hide the slight nervousness at being so close to all of his problems again.

Even though she was holding Andrew’s hand, in New York, Rina thought it was all a dream and that any moment she would wake up in some apartment he rented for a month or two in another exotic city somewhere in Europe. It would have been great, but the real world was calling to the business student and she had to answer it eventually. She had hoped that Andrew would agree to come back with her, stay with her for as long as he needed, if he wanted but she hadn’t held her breath either. She knew the issues he was having with his family, and though she wanted to spend time with the man and get to know him without falling for the tourist traps of Europe, she didn’t want to push him. She had always thought that he would come back stateside eventually and she was willing to wait for that moment.
And there were only so many more places they could have gone before Bucharest was an option. As much as Sorina enjoyed spending time with Andrew and as much as she knew her parents would approve of the background if not the boy, she didn’t want to see them. Her mother she adored, after everything that happened in her childhood, they were practically best friends and she spoke to her mother at least once a week. It was her father that Rina tried to avoid. He still saw her as that little fragile girl in the too big for her hospital bed. Sorina saw the pity and sadness still in his eyes and she hated that. She would rather he be happy without her around to see and think back on those terrible times than to be depressed with her around. Christmas was a great time in the Lupescu household when all four were around.
“Hey,” she said leaning into his side as she looked up at him. “It’s going to be okay, you’ll see. It’s different this time around,” she continued with a sunny smile. Last time, he didn’t have much to stay in New York for. And Rina of all people knew how much people needed time away from their families. Hers wasn’t the overbearing type, but she couldn’t be with them constantly. She would be drove mad, her mother would be doing everything she could to have her daughter living her life to the fullest and her father would be sitting behind his desk in his home office looking at old photographs of before. And none of that was in any way helpful. “Summer is almost here and we haven’t explored South America together yet,” she teased, hoping to alleviate some of the tension she could feel through Andrew. She knew he had to be nervous. He hadn’t been stateside in a long time now and New York was where all his problems are. This time though, she was right there next to him to help with anything she possibly could.
