It was already gone ten o’clock by the time Kael dragged himself from his bed. He had been at Gotham until turned 4am finishing off paperwork and checking inventory. Normally he’d have one of the other employees giving him a hand with it all, but with one person away on vacation and another off sick it seemed as though everyone was run off their feet trying to keep on top of everything as it was. He’d feel terrible asking someone who looked exhausted and who was due back in the club the next day to stay even later to help him with the work. He opted for a quick breakfast of coffee and half a cantaloupe for breakfast and then grabbed his gym bag, heading out for his usual workout before hitting the shower only once his muscles felt the ache of a thorough exercise session.
With the evening off, Kael would normally pop his head in just to check that things were running fine at the comedy club. He knew that his staff were trained well enough to handle any issues on the one night of the week he took off, but he still liked to just check that there was nothing major causing them bother. One time three people had been struck down with the same virus and the place was chaotic as the rest tried to keep on top of everything! However, he had a good few hours to kill before he could get away with a quick stop by before heading out to enjoy the evening with friends or to catch up on something he was missing. Kael swung by the grocery store first and then heading back to the apartment to watch the shows he had recorded before Lottie got home. As he was balancing the bags and fumbling with his keys, the cell phone in his jeans pocket began to ring and the familiar tune that he had set just days earlier grew louder. It reached voicemail before he got his fingers wrapped around it. Dialling the number for the message, Kael manoeuvred into the kitchen and began to put the shopping away while listening to the automated voice telling him pointless details about the time and the date. “Just get to the message already.”
He huffed, tossing a tin of something into the cupboard and dropping the door back into place. Listening to the muffled voice, awkward and almost ghostlike, Kael rolled his eyes and hit the disconnect button before the message reached its ending. It was the third one this week and the third one he was planning on ignoring. New York has been a fresh start, a ‘no looking back’ point in his young life. It had provided him with great opportunities and friendships and Kael was not interested in dwelling on what had been. Reopening old wounds would do nothing good for anyone involved and he knew as much. He had spent enough time wondering about that and thinking about the what ifs and he wasn’t going back to it now. Instead, he put the rest of the groceries away, grabbed a can of soda for himself and then flopped back onto the couch, kicking his legs up to rest his feet on the coffee table. His mind wasn’t exactly focused on the show flashing up on the screen before him, but it didn’t seem to be focusing on much else either. His thoughts flicked from one thing to the next like a malfunctioning DVD hopping scenes, back and forth and then forward three. At the sound of the key in the lock, Kael barely glanced across at the door, knowing it would only be his little sister. “Fuzzy peaches are on the side.” He said by way of a greeting and letting her know that he had been shopping. Raising the soda to his lips, he took a long mouthful and then glanced back at the TV screen just as his phone buzzed with a text message he had every intention to ignore. If this kept up his plans for this evening off were going to be another trip to the gym and possibly a late night trip to the climbing centre so he could tackle the biggest, toughest wall there. New York was a fresh start for so many in the city and Lottie was one of them in a way. She hadn’t really needed a fresh start from Boulder but it was still an experience she needed. New York’s art scene was one of the best in the world, and Lottie wanted nothing more than to be a part of it; for a little while at least. Eventually, she wanted to go back to Boulder and open a gallery there and showcase local pieces. But before she got there, she needed the experience of working in the art world. She just had to get through school first and foremost and then she could take on the scene.
And with the summer finally around, Lottie wanted to get an internship somewhere to get a head start on things. It was why, after working the close shift at the restaurant, she was up shortly after sunrise to run through the park with Rocky and the range to get rid of the nervous tension of hoping for a callback before doubling back to her apartment to shower and change for the only day that week she didn’t have an interview anywhere so she’d made plans with Chloe, a fellow bartender and friend for breakfast followed by a little light shopping. Eventually though, Lottie would have to get over to the bookstore before it closed to pick up a couple textbooks she’d ordered for next year. She wanted a head start on the reading list before summer was over and she was screwed.
With that in mind, Lottie checked her bag for everything she would need and rushed back out of the apartment she shared with her brother clueless to know if he was still home or already gone; not that she cared or was he keeper. She loved her brother but they had separate lives and unlike their brother Gavin, Kael let the baby of the family make her mistakes and only helped to fix them when she finally caved and asked or the situation was just that serious. The morning started as planned, breakfast with Chloe but just as they were headed over to do a little shopping, Penny texted and needed Chloe at the restaurant if she could make it. Lottie shooed her off, laughing and agreeing to another shopping trip. Lottie still went off and did her shopping, because it was summer and she needed some new shorts.
The day seemed to fly by and before she knew it, Lottie was paying for the textbooks and was rushing home again because her list of things to do was finished; even the little things she’d added to it. It took her a minute to get her keys out of her bag and the door open but she managed and dropped her bags just in the door before shutting it and locking up again. She left them there, toed off her shoes to add to the pile she was making and rushed through to pick up the bag of fuzzy peaches. “Hello to you, too,” Lottie said, a big grin on her face as she skipped over to the couch as Kael’s phone buzzed. She snatched it up as she went and peeked, because she was the adorable, annoying little sister and aside from the yelling and the phone being snatched up, she would get away with it. “Who’s Emily?” she asked, looking over at her big brother.

Kael never really planned on being the general manager at Gotham. It was just something that happened and he was comfortable enough to stick with the job. He hadn’t gone to college with that as his end goal, and for the most part Kael just took those four years as they came with no concrete plans for the end of it. His move and the first job he obtained as a graduate had been stuck in an office cubicle for more hours of the day than Kael really wanted to spend. Maybe the chain of events that happened out in Fort Wayne had been necessary to his life. Sure, losing everything out there, including Emily, had been like a knife to the heart, but if none of that had happened then he definitely wouldn’t be living with Lottie or giving orders to a bunch of wacky employees who could probably own Gotham’s stage themselves if he gave them half of the opportunity. Maybe fate did have a plan for the older McAllister and Kael wasn’t about to argue with fate.
He would’ve preferred it if destiny could’ve brought him to New York without trampling all over his heart in the process, but at least the experience made him more wary about the girls he dated. There hadn’t really been anyone to make it beyond a second date, but Kael was much less likely to rush into a relationship now. He thought that had been his mistake with Emily; he had allowed himself to get too caught up in the romance to see what she was really like. It had been a little over a year since he had caught her in bed with his college ‘friend’ and Kael thought he had done a pretty good job at moving on from that day and from Emily. Now she was trying to get him to talk, hear her out and consider giving their relationship another chance. Kael wanted none of it. She had broken his heart, and him, and hadn’t even tried to make contact with him since the month he had left Indiana to return home. It was starting to get under his skin and annoy him. He had moved on, even started dating again, and now her persistent calls and messages were unearthing the painful memories he had been working hard to forget.
Kael had no intention of bring Lottie, Gavin or their father into this. They didn’t know about Emily and he didn’t think there was a need for them to either. So far he had just beat his frustrations away down at the gym or dojo, or he had been able to focus his mind on business at Gotham. They were more positive outlets than drinking the memories away and he would rather have the ache of a solid workout than the ache of a horrible hangover. Snatching his phone back from Lottie’s hand, Kael deleted the message before he even read the pointless thing. “No one worth remembering.”
He answered coolly, dropping the slim phone back to the cushions and then flicking his gaze back towards the TV. If the woman had the stupidity to text or call again within the next five minutes than Kael was getting dangerously close to tossing his number entirely. For a while New York had been Lottie’s plan. Getting there was her start and what came afterwards was just added bonuses. Art had become her saving grace in high school. And it had helped her through that bad part of life when she went through that first serious breakup. Her family was there of course, with Gavin threatening to put his “ex-best friend” in the hospital but it was being alone in the local galleries and knowing that one day she wanted to be there in her own gallery, taking it all in. there were of course, things in her life that she hadn’t told those two but that was more so she wouldn’t end up with a packed bag, dropped outside a convent’s doors. She was the only girl in the house and Lottie had always figured that the three guys just tended to forget she wasn’t exactly one of them.
She pulled the same stunts, the same athletics but she was smaller than either of her brothers, she wasn’t afraid to fight dirty against them because she knew they wouldn’t actually fight her back. Gavin and Kael still couldn’t hit a girl, even if it was their baby sister. But because she was a girl, she also wasn’t afraid to get into fights with their girlfriends if they pulled so bitchy stunt. Like they protected her and stood up for her, she did the same for them. Family was family. But Lottie didn’t know everything, obviously, and she didn’t have a clue what was putting her oldest brother in this usually somber mood. She looked up at Kael, eyes wide with confusion as she watched him delete the text after snatching the phone from her hand.
She didn’t know what was in that text or who the sender was but she was stubborn and she wanted to know. Whatever or whoever it was put the usually happy guy into one hell of a mood and it was making Lottie’s drop as well. She was not a fan of foul moods in herself or anyone else. “Those are the words to start a very interesting story. Now spill Kael,” Lottie said, not giving an inch because she knew no matter how dull the tale turned out to be, he wouldn’t stop pushing her until she gave him an answer. She tore open the bag of her favourite candies and popped on in her mouth as she waited for him to say something; even if it was telling her off. Before he could open his mouth though, his phone went off and using those quick skills of hers, snatched the phone from his hand. “Whoever this Emily chick is, she’s relentless in her endeavours in getting in touch with you,” she said, her thumb hovering over the talk button. She wanted to answer but she did have boundaries and as much as she wanted to know, she wasn’t about to cross that line and have her brother pissed off at her so she hit ignore and tossed the phone on the table. "Talk. Now."

Kael had always been an overprotective big brother, but he had also grown up patient. He could remember his mom even telling him to be patient with his little brother and sister when they were still no more than infants. After her untimely death the duty of instilling patience into the young boy had fallen to his father and he had certainly done a good job at it. There had been times in his siblings’ lives when Kael had wanted to interfere and stop them from doing something stupid before they actually did it, but he had managed to hold back. They had to learn from their mistakes in the same way that he had done. The only thing he had to say now was that if either of them ever dated anyone like Emily he would be interfering in a heartbeat to drag them out of that disaster waiting to happen. Heartbreak might have been inevitable, but he wasn’t going to sit back and let his family go through that kind of emotional hell. It had been a lot different than the idea of first love and he was old enough to have known better, but it still didn’t save him. The last thing he wanted was to find Lottie crying or Gavin punching walls because someone had done the same to them as Emily had done to him.
They were both strong and probably both strong enough to bounce back, but Kael didn’t think he could ever forgive himself if someone trampled all over his siblings like that. Hell, it might even be the one time he lost his temper and went on the warpath, but he hoped that would be a bridge he’d never have to cross. Kael hadn’t wanted to bring up his mistake of falling in love with the deceptive Emily for a number of reasons. He could do without the memories being brought back to the surface, but just when he thought he had buried them deep enough Emily had done a fine job of digging them back up for him. Her persistent attempts to get his attention and make him talk were getting annoying and he had already told her that he had nothing to say and she had nothing worth listening to. It had been all he had said the first time she had had the nerve to call him and since he hung up that day he had refused to take another call or answer any of the messages. If she had a shred of common sense she would take the hint and give up already.
Shooting a glare sideways at Lottie, Kael sighed and shook his head. He gave her a small shrug and took another sip of his soda. “There’s nothing to tell. She’s just a girl I knew and don’t want to talk to.”
He knew Lottie would keep pushing, but at that very moment he didn’t feel like pouring his heart out as though they were on some self-help chat show of miscreants and too much drama. Kael hated making a big deal out of things and he really just wanted all of this to just go away again so he could get on with his life. “Yeah, she can’t take no for an answer.” He mumbled, snatching one of the fuzzy peaches from the bag and tossing it back into his mouth before Lottie could say anything about it. “Why do you want to know so badly? She’s just some desperate girl from Indiana who, in her deranged little mind, thinks I might like to talk to her. And I clearly don’t.” Snapping slightly, he went one step further after Lottie tossed the phone and sat up long enough to dismantle the damn thing and remove the battery. At least it would give him something of a break from the constant ringing and chiming. Although he had a feeling that was about to be replaced by the badgering of his little sister. Lottie was the type that needed to make her own mistakes and learn from them. And she was so grateful to her brothers and father for letting her do her own thing. She wouldn’t admit to it and she wouldn’t complain about it but she had it a little harder than her brothers. They had her mother around to teach them lessons and show them things. Lottie didn’t have a single memory of her mother; there were no fond thoughts of sitting in front of her mother while the older version of Lottie braided her hair, no high teas and no talks of boys. She had to make due with her brothers and her father, none of which could quite figure out what to say to their little girl when she had to go to her first day of school with just a brush run through her hair because there was no one who knew how to braid or even figure out how to tie her hair up. It was part of the reason Lottie had kept her hair short for as long as she could. It helped to be one of the guys when her hair wasn’t a weapon used against her! Not to mention that it got in the way with all those sports, activities and the helmets she had to wear.
There were mother types in her life, mothers of her friends who didn’t mind her asking questions or showing her how to do her own hair, makeup and walk in heels. She had the women of the restaurant that were basically her family. She was still more one of the guys than anything else but at least she could pretend she was a “real girl” from time to time. Still those few and far between moments wouldn’t have some guy turning his head at her and thinking she was the woman of his dreams. One conversation with her would have the poor man tucking tail and running away as fast as his feet could carry him! She always joked she was too sarcastic for her own good, and she was kidding around. “And giving me non answers like that leads me to question you more. Of the two of us, who has the better black belt? I really don’t want to have to hurt you,” she threatened idly. There wasn’t a single part of the petite blonde that worried about her brother calling her bluff because she wasn’t kidding. She would push the coffee table out of the way and beat her brother up right there if she really had to. Taking him on down the street at the Dojo she taught at part time would have been better but that would just take too long.
Lottie had never been afraid of threatening her brothers or beating them up. She excelled in Martial Arts, she could even be better than her brothers, but neither of them would admit that; they were guys, after all. Lottie had never seen her brother like this before today, though. It was a little unnerving to see him so huffy. “Mine. Piss off,” she said, pulling her peach candies away from the hands of a thief. These candies were her addiction. She could go without alcohol easily enough, drugs had never suited but these sweet and sour pink and orange coloured candies were her kryptonite. “Call me inquisitive,” Lottie said, reaching over and snatching up Kael’s drink. “You never turn down talking to girls. What’s wrong with her? Wake up next to her the morning after and realise she wasn’t an eight but a three?” Lottie asked, making a disapproving click with her tongue before taking another sip of her brother’s drink and setting it down again, being too lazy and a little too invested in the conversation to get up and get herself a drink. She cared about her brother, obviously, and she wanted to get to the bottom of his foul mood.

Kael had tried his best to step up after their mom had died. He had wanted to help their father and be there when his siblings needed him most. He was still a kid himself and probably got in the way more than he actually managed to help out, but he tried every day to be there and do something for the younger pair. It was difficult and sometimes he was entirely hopeless, but no one could ever say he didn’t do anything for his brother and sister. If he was having a tough day he usually found his outlet in the many activities and sports he did, keeping most of those petty problems to himself. It was ridiculously rare for Kael to ever bring a problem home and have his siblings or his dad help him get out of a rut. Even after all of the heartache that came with Emily, Kael had simply thrown himself back into old routines at the family home. If he wasn’t working at the restaurant then he was out and keeping fit and active. He’d push himself until his muscles ached and exhaustion set in rather than talk about what had happened.
Kael had been hoping for a little longer to himself that afternoon, but he knew that Lottie wouldn’t stay away from the apartment all day. She’d have returned eventually and he still wouldn’t have been ready for her usual chatter. He wanted this last couple of days behind him and he wanted the girl on the other end of the phone to catch a hint already. Sadly, that just didn’t seem to be happening. “Lottie! I am not in the mood.”
Usually challenges like that were what Kael rose to. He’d have no problem roughhousing with his sister with each of them insisting that they were the best. In the past, most of their little competitions had only come to an end because work called one or both of them away. Today he really wasn’t in the mood for those games, the banter or anything else that came with it. This sour mood was easily the kind of thing that could land Kael in a genuine fight if he attempted to go out while the dark cloud hovered over him like this. He already knew that Lottie wasn’t going to drop the matter. He could go out, stay out and come home ridiculously late and she’d still be asking him these questions, pushing him for more information and the truth behind this mystery caller. Kael didn’t exactly like it and he didn’t want to talk about it, but he was only moments away from exploding at his baby sister; something he would feel instantly guilty about if it happened. “I can think of other words better suited.” He grumbled, taking his drink and setting it on the other side of him, out of the reach of his sister’s hands. “I almost made her your sister-in-law.” Suddenly his drink wasn’t strong enough. Kael moved through to the kitchen to grab a glass and then sought out the strongest thing they had in, filling the glass and knocking it back in one swift gulp. Topping it up again, he sighed, this time drinking it slower as he leaned back against the kitchen unit. He knew Lottie would have something to say about this revelation, but right now Kael just wanted a drink. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED! L-L-Lottie! <3 WORDS! 607! OUTFIT! Life without her mother hadn’t been difficult for Lottie. She had no memories of the woman who carried her for nine months and shared her life for a little more than two years. All she had were pictures and even though Lottie felt a loss for the woman in those pictures, she didn’t have many more emotions towards the whole situation. Yeah, it sucked having her mom pass away when she was still just a baby but at the same time, if she’d lived she might have turned out differently. As it was, she learned things she probably wouldn’t have with a female presence in the household. She knew it was tougher on Kael and Gavin, missing the woman who raised them for more years. She’d been around for more memories with them. Occasionally Lottie would wonder what it would have been like, to have gotten to know her before the accident but it was much too late now and all Lottie could do was hope she was doing things right and that her mother was proud of her.
“Oh, boo! You’re worse than a woman, you know that? All those pitiful mood swings you go through.” Lottie said with an accompanied eye roll. She had no idea what was up with her oldest brother but she was determined to get to the bottom of it. If only to get him the hell out of this foul mood he’d put himself in. Of course, she always knew when something was up with her oldest brother but she had learned at a very young age that he wouldn’t tell anyone anything or ask for help unless he had no other options. All things considered, it was fairly easy to tell when the oldest McAllister was bothered by something, he threw himself into physical activity, never sitting still long enough to actually rest. And what rest he did get, Lottie didn’t think was enough sometimes. But she couldn’t say anything. Like Gavin, when she was pissed, everyone knew it. She didn’t yell at them all like her second brother but, she got her feelings across loud and clear. And her friends and family knew to avoid her until she was feeling better.
Lottie’s eyes widened as she fell back against the couch for a second, letting her brother storm out of the room while she wrapped her mind around that little bit of breaking news. Sister-in-law? Really? Narrowing her eyes, Lottie tossed her candy bag on the table, pushed herself up from the couch and followed Kael into the kitchen, crossing her arms over her chest when she stopped. “What the hell, Kael? Why is this news now and not whenever the fuck it happened?” Lottie was pissed alright. But she had no idea at the moment if she was mad at him for not confiding in her, at herself for not somehow knowing about this already or that skank who obviously broke her brother’s heart. Kael was the good one of the three, the sweet one- in Lottie’s opinion. He cared about his family, stuck up for them but also let them make their own mistakes. Of course now it all made sense back when she finally called it quits with Scott. Letting out a frustrated sigh, Lottie stepped up and gave her brother a fierce hug, though it was more for her than him. It was better to hug it out than beat him up for keeping something so big from her! “Need me to beat her up?” She asked, looking up at her big brother who seemed like he had the weight of the world resting on his shoulders.

Kael had never been one for what if scenarios and dreaming of maybe situations. They didn’t make anything better and just made him feel worse. He had never been the daydreamer kind at all and his feet were firmly on the ground. The closest he had ever got to losing his head in the clouds had been with Emily and the way his feelings had completely blinded him to everything else. Now he knew that she could have been one of the biggest mistakes of his life if reality hadn’t come crashing down around him when it did. He never spoke about it for a number of different reasons varying from the shame of letting love rule him like that and the heartbreak that had him running back home like some scared little boy. Everything he felt about that situation had been bottled up inside and only slithers of bitterness had escaped some very late nights at Gotham when the staff were teasing each other about dates or relationships. Will was usually the worst for bitter comments, but Kael knew he had said a few that even had her looking up at him with raised eyebrows. Luckily, he was their boss and they didn’t try to push him.
“Whatever, Lottie.”
Kael didn’t even have it in him to come back with one his usual quips. He was already thinking of heading to his room, getting changed and grabbing his gym bag and equipment and heading out for the night. He would ache like hell in the morning, but Kael could at least work out the frustration and the anger without screaming at his sister to get there. Shouting at Lottie was something he would regret, but venting on a punch-bag or running through his problems on a treadmill he would not. He hadn’t wanted to tell Lottie or anyone else the truth about those phone calls or Emily. He had wanted to forget about all of it, but he had blurted it out to try and get her to stop with the questions and he ought to have known better. All Lottie was going to do was ask more questions. He was far from surprised when she appeared in the kitchen with questions rolling from her tongue. “Because I didn’t want any of you to know about it! She was supposed to be a surprise and then it never got that far.” The drink was back at his lips and he sighed after he swallowed it. His return to Boulder and then his arrival in New York had been masked pretty well, but Emily had been the reason behind both of those things. Kael was just so used to shouldering his own problems that he never felt comfortable talking about them and he had kept telling himself that no one needed to know; not their father, not Lottie, not Gavin…no one. The hug would probably have knocked him back a step if he wasn’t already leaning against the counter. He patted Lottie’s back with one hand, but kept his glass in the other. Kael was hardly one to drink away his problems, but he felt like this was a semi-decent start for today’s drama. “What I need is for you to forget about her. No one knows and no one is going to know.” He stated, his opinion of his own choice still not wavering. Lottie might not like the idea, but Kael wasn’t about to create some big ol’ drama out of it now and even with their father and brother he would prefer them to be kept in the dark. Lottie was not the kind of sister that let her siblings brood and be all moody and annoying. Especially since neither of her brothers were ever like that. So it was obvious something was up when they turned down that dark path, even for a little while. Since Lottie could remember, she’d seen one brother or the other broody only a handful of times, this time included. Something was up and she was determined to get to the bottom of it. Call her nosey or annoying, she didn’t care. Getting down to the bottom of things is what she was going to be spending the next little while doing. Eyes wide, Lottie sat back, leaning away from Kael. “Not even a bad comeback for that? Jeez, you’re further down bad mood path than I thought!” She said, shaking her head before popping a couple of her candies into her mouth.
It was usually Lottie in odd moods and her brothers getting her out of them with bad jokes via text messages and sit down talks with coffee and candies. But then, the entire family worked out all their aggression and anger issues by working out. Kael hit the gym, Lottie went to the range and fired off a few dozen arrows or when that wasn’t an option, she went to the Dojo down the block and fought it out with another instructor and a couple Bokken and Gavin took one of the dirt bikes out and rode until he could think again. They all had their little ways, but all those little ways were basically the same. They ran off so they didn’t accidentally hurt each other. But this news was big; huge. Lottie didn’t really know what to say or how she felt about any of it. “Coming from someone who loves surprises, that wouldn’t have been a very good one, just so you know.” She said with a slight glare.
She wasn’t sure if she could keep a secret like that. From their father and Gavin, more than likely, but she didn’t see them every day. And when she had a secret this big, she showed her discomfort about it. Normally, she was not a gossipy girl but she knew she was going to want to tell someone something eventually; even if it was a long time from now. “I’m not making that promise you know what I’m like. I won’t tell Gavin or dad. That’s the best you’re getting.” She said, stepping back and moving to the fridge for a drink of her own. “I was thinking of calling up the Chinese place on the corner for dinner, interested?” She asked, popping the top to the can in her hand and taking a sip of the dark soda. She wasn’t working that night, so she figured a little Chinese would be a good treat to add to the rest of the day.

Normally Kael was there to try and cheer his siblings up. It wasn’t always foul moods or bad memories that led to it either. There were just days when people felt a little less like themselves and he tried to work to fix that. He let them work out their problems on their own or ask him for help, but he would still be there to tease and annoy while they went about that. They didn’t need to tell him everything but they had best crack a smile or a sarcastic comment if they wanted to be left in peace. It was Kael's way of checking on them and making sure it really wasn’t a situation where he had to demand details and intervene. Luckily he could only count two of those times and they had both been Gavin and not all as serious as Kael had worried. “Exactly, and I’m not in the mood for stupid jokes.”
He warned her, really not wanting to lose his temper and snap at his little sister. If that happened he would only feel guilty and horrible and it would do absolutely nothing for his already sour mood. Kael hadn’t planned on anyone ever finding out about Emily. He kept that portion of his life quiet, shrugging off any questions and emphasising them as his boring years. Jobwise, they were the boring years, but he knew some people who would feast off the level of romantic drama for at least a good couple of years. Or worse, they would start trying to “get him back out there” and set him up with women on awkward dates. He didn’t want that as much as he didn’t want his family knowing about the almost-wedding that he had managed to save himself from. Even if it wasn’t in the nicest of ways. “If she hadn’t been incapable of keeping her legs closed, you probably would have gotten along great with her.” He mumbled reluctantly, pinching the bridge of his nose and sighing. It had been one of the many thoughts racing through his mind when he had first considered proposing. The girls really would have been good friends if things had worked out differently and Kael knew it. They had a lot in common and Emily had once been ridiculously keen to meet the other most important girl in Kael’s life. “They can’t ever know. And you have no real reason to tell anyone else. I’m not next week’s gossip with Naia.” He said, shaking his head and scrubbing his fingers through his hair. Kael knew Lottie wasn’t like that, but his bad mood and previous concerns over the secret still slipped through to try to emphasise the point about keeping it hush-hush. It only took one person to say something and soon it would reach Gotham. Kael could do without his employees knowing about the secrets of his past. He kept most of his personal life personal as it was, but that secret slipping out would be one of the worst things for him. “I’m interested in finishing this bottle…but sure, Chinese, whatever.” He topped up his glass and then, with the bottle in one hand and his drink in the other, he moved back to the couch, flopping in the spot he had no intention of moving from for the rest of the night.
