The one very good thing about having a morning show was that it left the rest of the day open and free. There were plenty of times when there was other work to be done, publicity events to attend that they had spent the last few weeks promoting, but Niko still loved the fact that he could finish work while most people were still ranting their way through a bad start to the day. Although anyone who thought he lived a life that would make the early morning job easier, was a fool. Most of the time when he was out enjoying New York’s variety of bars and clubs he was cutting the night short not because he needed sleep, but rather because he needed to squeeze in a shower, change of clothes and a coffee before the segment he worked with Gage. He was always coherent enough for the job and he could pass out once the work day was done; it gave everyone something to joke about when he made reference to it.
Today was one of the days where he didn’t have anything to do once the red light was out for them. He did, however, have a craving for Chinese food. His favourite take out place was a little out of the way for him, but with the day still early, the sun in the sky and with him in a rather good mood Niko didn’t exactly mind going across the city to indulge in some good food! Niko liked to walk and take the subway a few times a week, rather than using his car to get from A to B. He just enjoyed being out in the city and New York was a hell of a lot nicer when it wasn’t like living in a real life driving simulation game when it came to navigating the busy streets. This was a day when his car was parked pretty in the garage that came with his condo, so after saying goodbye to Gage, his producer and the rest of the familiar faces he knew, Niko vanished into the sidewalk crowd.
The little restaurant was just on the outskirts of Chinatown and was a little pricier than one or two of the menus he had tucked away in a drawer in his apartment, but Niko thought it was completely worth it. If he ever ordered Chinese for friends or for lunch in work when they had things to organise off-air, this was the place he would instantly think of. He wasn’t a fussy eater and all food was good food to the twenty-five year old, but this place really had him hooked from the first bite. Stepping through the doors, he grinned up at the owner, indulging in a brief conversation with the familiar man before placing a quick lunchtime order that would probably see him through until dinner. Handing over the folded notes, Niko took the bag, waved goodbye and then dug out the first container as he stepped back outside. With his stomach growling, he needed something to settle it and prawn toast appeared to be the first thing he could eat with his fingers. He figured attempting to chow down on the noodles or the rice might just get a little bit messy. He was moving back towards his apartment now, dodging people as best as he could on the bustling street. Niko was only ten minutes from his apartment and taking a short cut through the park when a blur passed him and in the next second he had his legs tangled around a dog’s leash, struggling to remain upright, but surprisingly he didn’t face-plant the concrete!
