The class was over. Thank God. She didn't understand why she had to take the natural Photography course when she wasn't going to be the next Ansel Adams; far from it, in fact. But it was part of the program for her degree, so even though she didn't need it- or want it- she had to take it or risk not graduating. She shoved her laptop into its' case, tossed her books and pens into her bag. Jack slipped her coat on, leaving it open and kept her mittens, hat and scarf in her bag; she'd put those on when she was at the door, just about to leave. It had been cold when she'd gotten to the school for her three hour class. At least it was a morning class, and not one that was all that important to her. Jack gathered her things and left the classroom behind for another week. She had intended on going to the darkroom to get some of these prints done and out of the way but one peek inside revealed that every enlarger was taken. It looked like a group from the freshman class. Normally, if there were a free enlarger, she didn't mind sharing the space, but this was a situation she just wasn't willing to put herself in. Being an upperclassman in comparison, she'd be asked questions; she wasn't in the mood to play teacher. So, she left and made her way down the hall.
She had nowhere to be. Her boss had closed the studio for the day and, although she had a key, Jack didn't want to be there alone. Nor did she want to go home to her empty apartment. Avie wasn't there, he was spending the day with her mother at her flower shop. Jack had to pick him up later, since she was having dinner at her parents house. She had nothing really do to but sit around and read or watch TV until then. Hell, Jay was even caught up in her work, and aside from the prints she had to develop for her last class, she had no homework either. It was probably the first time in a very long time where the petite brunette really had nothing to do. Deciding to waste some time, Jack walked through the halls of the Arts Department rather aimlessly. She usually stuck around this area because that was where all her classes were. She'd had no real reason, besides meeting up with a friend, to go anywhere else. She was even sure there were places on Campus she'd never been before. Well, that was about to change. She stood to the side of the bustling hallway, debating where she'd start her little exploration expedition. Jack looked around and spotted a sign by the door of the stairs. Roof Access. A devilish smirk spread across her lips.
That's where she'd start and headed straight for the door. She hadn't been taking very many risks lately, and that in itself was starting to annoy Jay. That's it, she thought, taking the stairs two at a time, she was going to send a text to her friend, see if there was any way they could get into a little bit of trouble; and then see how fast it took to get out of it once again. At the top of the stairs, Jack pushed open the heavy metal door and stepped out into a winter wonderland. THere was a small shelter, presumably for students and teachers who found themselves on the roof. That was the only really clear space. The path had clearly been shoveled, but not in the last few days since there was a layer of white. Happily, Jay kicked her way through the thin layer of snow to the shelter to put her things down and keep them dry. Then she looked around to make sure there was no one watching her; not that she cared. Satisfied, Jack shoved on her hat, mitts and wrapped her scarf around her neck a couple times, then jumped into the nearest pile of snow to land on her feet. The snow stopped just below her knees, and she was instantly thankful that she'd worn a tall pair of boots.
Deciding it best to jump through all the snow to get to the edge of the building, Jay carefully made her way over to the side of the building. The view was breath-taking and not just because it was so cold out up so high. She just stood there a minute, or two, taking in the view of the city and just thinking, This is my playground.
