Morning classes always seemed to drain Lexi. She just couldn’t seem to function after a 9am lecture and it took all of her effort to stay awake until lunch time pulled itself around. The bitter winter did nothing to help matters either and the small brunette wished that she’d picked up a jacket this morning before running down to her car. The truth was, she’d overslept for the first time in years and rushing around her apartment had warmed her body up so much that she hadn’t even given a thought to the icy air outside until her car pulled up on campus and she stepped from the protective heat of the vehicle.
What she needed now though, after an hour of sitting through a mundane lecture on colonised America, was a strong coffee with just a dash of caramel to sweeten the taste of the hot beverage. Lexi spent very little time in the student lounge, normally choosing the courtyard over the casually decorating interior whenever she was meeting with her college friends. She often preferred being outdoors and having the freedom to do and move however she wanted without someone else needing to be considered first, but it was far too cold for her to be hanging out there today, especially since she’d forgotten her coat; a foolish mistake for her to be making in mid December. However, it was done now, and the slender Manhattan baby found her feet moving towards the student lounge, the sharp heels clicking on the polished floor as she walked, flicking her longer section of hair from her face before pushing open the old oak door that blending in nicely with the rest of the college building.
Inside the room, there was an unusual stillness and a few eyes looked in her direction. She took a second to wonder what made the human race so inquisitive? Surely people walked through that door all day and yet people’s first instinct was to turn around and see who had entered the lounge. It was strange and at the same time, such a natural thing to do. As it was still relatively early in the morning, the lounge was mostly empty, with just a few clusters of students gathered around open magazines, cradling various drinks and breakfast delicacies in their hands. The smell of cinnamon coming from the hand of a young man reminded her that in her haste to leave, she had skipped breakfast and her stomach gurgled as a reminder of this fact. Sighing softly, Lexi gently placed her bag down on one of the soft armchairs near the long leather sofa and searched through her belongings until her hand closed around the long and narrow purse she had been given for her last birthday by one of her faker friends. She pulled out a crisp note and fed it to the vending machine as she opted for one of the cereal bars in there; it wasn’t much but it would tame her stomach for an hour or so until she met up with her friends for lunch in the city. After fishing it out from the bottom of the machine, she side stepped to the coffee maker, selecting her choice of drink and peeling back the wrapper of her late breakfast as she waited for the machine to whir to life and fill the porcelain mug with the caramel goodness she craved right now.
As she waited for her drink to be poured, Lexi caught sight of her reflection in one of the large windows that allowed light to stream in from outside. Seeing her reflection was still something that the young girl was growing accustomed to. She knew, from her sisters, that everyone saw their flaws when they looked in the mirror, but with Lexi she saw more than that, and right now, she saw exactly how far she had come in the last few years in regards to her self image. She knew that she’d never be completely happy with how she looked, but it was still hard to try and ignore the voice that filled her head whenever she looked at herself. This was the reason why she was distracted when she picked up the mug of coffee once it was ready and possibly what caused her to spill the scalding liquid over her hand, enticing a string of curse words to escape her glossed lips as she put the mug down quickly and carefully, before switching her attention to the pain in her hand, the skin already slightly red from the drink that had, effectively, woke her up.

Could a day really get any worse than it already was? The morning was started off great; maybe even a little too perfect. Lina had the coffee made when Rina found herself in the kitchen, because she'd had a morning class, and the coffee was still hot. Then she'd found the perfect outfit for the day, and she felt good. So, another win. She'd read over the note Lina had left saying that she'd fed the pets and had even taken Tails out for a quick walk, even though Rina paid the doorman's grandson to walk him. Of course, everything went downhill as soon as she stepped foot on campus. She bought a coffee and somehow managed to drop it, and have it splash up onto her boots; that was easy to fix, just a quick wash down in the ladies room. That wasn't so bad, but then she got to class and her pens didn't work, she wasn't aware there had been an assignment, so she had to stay after class to speak to her professor. Apparently the assignment had been announced on the one day so far that year that she'd missed for work. But being back home in Europe was something she jumped on at every chance.
Thankfully, her professor had allowed her to do some extra credit work. It was going to be a huge pain in the ass, but it was something she could do in her sleep. He was basically giving her the assignment, but for extra credit instead. He'd handed over a small booklet on the project and sent her on her way. Leaving the classroom, Rina checked the watch on her left wrist for the time and sighed. Her next class wasn't until one in the afternoon and she had nothing really to do to speed through the time, besides read through her project. As Sorina walked through the halls, she pushed her hair off her shoulder and glanced outside. It was too cold to walk around, and she didn't really want to take the chance of running around to get to the library to get some research books on the subject. Rina rolled her eyes up to the ceiling before making an unladylike groan noise before wandering off to the student lounge.
She didn't actually know why she was in this mood all of a sudden; about the project anyway. She was in a perfect fit for the morning she'd had. The student lounge was decorated to accommodate the young students with casual seating, vending machines for both food and drink and a wonderful view. She dropped her bag onto the floor by one of the comfortable overstuffed leather chairs; they were her favourite before dropping into the chair graciously. Her mother would have killed her if she would have slumped into the chair like some slob. With a move that would make her mother cringe, Sorina flung her legs across one arm of the chair and allowed her head to rest casually in the crook where the arm met the back of the chair. It was an odd position, but it was also the most comfortable to Sorina; especially when she was about to do a lot of reading.
At least, she thought that's what she had ahead of her. She looked at the front page of the small, thin booklet and a genuinely pleased grin lit up all her features. The assignment was to create a made up foundation or company and have figures for the first two quarters for the investors. There was a cash allowance to start up the company and from there; you had to figure out the best possible moves for the company. It was quite possibly the perfect assignment for Sorina since she wanted to start up a foundation for Sick Children. Although, a small part of her did feel bad since she was the international face of a different Foundation for sick children based out of her hometown of Bucharest. Sor pulled out a notebook and pen and started writing down quick notes, her scribbles almost indecipherable.
She was caught up and only looked up to check the time when she saw another girl enter the room and leave her things by another leather chair. But she went back to her work seconds later. Within a matter of minutes, Sorina's attention was taken away from her scribbled notes again, with the sound of delightfully colourful words. She swore herself on occasion, but she tended to switch languages and no one understood unless they knew her well enough. Her blue eyes took in the scene and understood why the string of curse words were slipping from the other girls lips in a quick procession. Sor forgot all about her work, stood up and rushed over to the other girl across the room. She snatched up some napkins from the small table that help the mugs for the coffee and held them out to the other girl. "Here, this'll help," she said, her accent there, but faint; tainted with all the travel to something that wasn't quite this or that. "Not much, but at least your arm will no longer be wet," she added with a soft smile.

The college seemed to be a little on the quiet side today, or at least that was what Lexi thought. Maybe the cold weather was off putting for most of the students so they had opted to skip the day or something. A few of her friends had been taken ill with a nasty virus that had been circulating around one or two of the departments, but Lexi felt right as rain; well, she felt as best as she ever felt. She never really felt perfect, but apparently that was a good thing and she was in no qualified position to argue back with her therapist and the sage advice that the older woman had given Lexi for near to five years now.
However, with the silence, came the perfect opportunity to study. Lexi’s friends were usually too distracting for the aspiring historian to focus on her assignments and the playful jibes and mocking tones didn’t help her either. Yes, maybe history was a rather odd choice of major, but Lexi was passionate about it and knew that whatever career she ended up with, she wanted history to play a part in it. There was nothing wrong with that and if her friends were off changing the world as doctors or lawyers then so be it. She was perfectly happy with her own goals and dreams and nothing would change that, not even watching her friends succeed faster than her in five or six years’ time. She was a lot more modest than most of the girls in her social circle and she didn’t dream about anything big or fancy, she just imagined the future in terms of family. Lexi was somewhat old fashioned and she wanted the white wedding, handsome husband and tribe of children running around the tidy house. She wanted to greet her husband when he came home each night and she wanted to pack the lunches for her children before school each morning. Somewhere in the middle of all that she would have her own job and career, perhaps as the curator of a museum, and she would love her life, allowing nothing to bring her down. It was all very idealistic and she knew, deep down, that life probably wouldn’t work out as simple as that, but there was no harm in dreaming and no repercussions to be had from thinking about such fantasies.
The scalding liquid on her skin spoke differently though. If Lexi had been paying proper attention to what she was doing then she wouldn’t be soaked with the coffee she had intended to drink, not wear. She let out a long breath, the chocolate strands of her hair being pushed back with the exhaled air before falling back against her cheek, curling under her chin neatly. Lexi heard the voice speaking to her and gratefully accepted the napkins as she placed the coffee cup back on the side so as not to cause any more damage with the beverage. “Eurgh, thanks.”
She wiped at her arm and hand, wincing at the soggy napkin once it absorbed the brown liquid that had been dripping from her skin, leaving her feeling sticking and leaving her arm red and stinging slightly. It didn’t seem severe enough to require medical attention and so the petite girl allowed it to drop to her side as she threw the used napkins into the nearest bin and then turned to smile fully at the girl who had helped her, flashing an honest and friendly grin at her. “Thank you. I need to stop phasing out.” She joked before looking at her clothes to make sure that her outfit wasn’t totally ruined by the stupid accident and the coffee that seemed to sit on the side, the steam rising from it almost mockingly as she narrowed her brown eyes and glared at it. There was a reason why she usually stuck to bottles of mineral water and this incident was part of the evidence to support that choice for the slender brunette. Sorina really shouldn’t have been at school with all the viruses circling around. Her immune system hadn’t been what it once was in a very long time. She’d taken ill when she was seven and she was twenty-one now. Though, she’d had a clean bill of health since she was eleven. But, all the Chemo and treatments wrecked havoc on her system so she had to be extra careful not to catch even something simple like a cold. So far, she’d been pretty good with staying in class and not getting sick, she chalked it up to all the vitamins she took daily and the strict exercise regime she had herself on. It was almost to the point that she thought her immune system was better than before, but still, she wouldn’t take chances with her health; it was quite possibly the only part of her life that she wouldn’t take a chance with.
She was thankful, though that she hadn’t even been in the country during the supposed massive outbreak of the flu. It meant that by the time she did finally return to New York, everyone else had gotten sick and were now home resting. And the rest of the students were skipping; or so it seemed. There weren’t half as many students in her Business theory class as there had been when she’d attended before her sudden trip. That was okay with her, Sor didn’t plan on missing classes unless it was unavoidable. If they wanted to waste their parent’s money, who was she to say anything? She had paid for college herself with the money she’d earned from the runway; she didn’t want that money to go to waste, and she wanted to make something of herself to help the sick kids like she had been helped. It was basically her only goal.
Rina cringed at the red blotches on the other girls’ arm. It looked sore, but nothing a little cool water and some anti-bacterial cream wouldn’t fix up. She’s seen it done before, Lina, as smart as she was, was the biggest klutz in the entire family. She probably couldn’t go a week without tripping or spilling something. She loved her baby sister to death, but the girl needed a bubble. Rina reached to grab more napkins to help clean up the mess around as best she could. Cleaning and general housework weren’t exactly strong points for the curvy blonde, but she knew how to clean. She smiled, “It’s no problem,” she said, crouching down to clean up the small spill on the floor. She stood, folding up the used before tossing them from where she stood to the nearest garbage can. She brushed her hands together, before pushing her hair from her face and smiling. She laughed at the other girls’ comment, before shaking her head. “Don’t worry about it. We all need our own little worlds sometimes,” she said, knowing how true her words really were.
“I’m Sorina, by the way,” she said, extending her hand towards the girl. She still wasn’t all that great at making friends but that was part of her reason for going to school in New York. She worked there most of the time, and she could be a normal girl, with nothing more to worry about than getting to the next party and passing all her classes; the latter mattering more than the former.

Lexi hoped that someday she’d break away from the social scene that seemed to exist only in high school and college. Whilst she had a few honest friends, most of the people who knew her were only interested in her family and the potential impact of befriending a girl like her when it came to parties and finding a future partner who would have more than enough money to support them and any family they may have together. Lexi, on the other hand, didn’t want to know about her financial state unless she was in danger of losing her apartment or anything else. She wouldn’t tell anyone she dated how comfortably she could live and there was no way that she’d ever divulge exact figures to another living soul. Maybe it was her trust issues, but Lexi had seen and experienced too many people being used for their bank accounts to be completely sure that someone wouldn’t do the same to her in the future.
Lexi, on the other hand, didn’t care about how poor or rich people were. People were people and she was evidence that wealth didn’t save you from the bullies or the problems. Sure, she had a pretty good life and the girls wanted for nothing with their father spun tightly around their little fingers, but Lexi’s self-esteem was quashed and even after four years of on and off therapy, she still wasn’t totally confident with herself and what she was capable of. Most of the time, she had good days, where she could walk the hallways with her head held high, some skin on show and a flirtatious smile on her face, but other times, she would hide behind the baggy college hoodie she owned and the sneakers that rarely saw the light of day as she slipped into the back of lectures and then vanished the minute they were over. There were times when she’d skip a meal she knew she was supposed to eat and there were times where she’d really enjoy her food and not care about calories of fat amounts. Her recovery from bulimia would be a lifelong rollercoaster, but so long as she had a decent support system in place, then she would be fine. The only problem was that only her family knew of her illness and when she was shopping with friends, if an outfit was too tight a fit in her usual size, then she’d feel the panic returning, the taunts haunting her memories as high school jibes returned in full force to shatter her fragile confidence. She was a shy girl by nature, but could fake the same level of confidence that her friends had naturally, so long as she was in the right mind set to do so.
As the girl wiped the spill on the floor, Lexi caught the small mess on the side, wiping it with another napkin as she shifted her weight from her left to right leg, careful to avoid the wet floor now; the last thing she needed was for her heel to land in it and send her crashing to the ground, a broken ankle and bruised ego requiring an ambulance. She tossed the napkins into the bin just after the girl’s had landed and then she wiped her hands together, trying to rid her palms of the stickiness. “Yeah, I guess. I just should try to keep away from hot liquids when I choose to take a vacation to Wonderland.”
She looked at the cup, drastically emptier than it should have been, but still picking it up again, nursing it in her hands as she smiled at the kind stranger. “I’m Lexi, the girl who was outsmarted by a caramel latte.” She joked dryly, crossing her legs where she stood. Sor felt bad for the girl. Not because she was klutz or anything like that, but because she’d hurt herself. Rina had been through so much and she knew worse pains than that, but she still cringed and immediately went to help whenever she could when she saw someone hurt. It didn’t matter what she was doing, homework or a photo shoot, she ran off to help. Somehow, with her sheer force of will, she’s managed to stop herself while strutting down the catwalk. It had gotten her some sort of reputation behind the scenes of shows but she didn’t mind because despite it- she wasn’t sure if it was good or bad, she still had a few close friends among the rest of the girls and quite a few of the guys because she wasn’t stuck up nor was she a total bitch. She was the sweetheart of the group she hung out with.
And being a sweetheart had gotten her a good amount of cash saved up in her accounts, along with a pretty penthouse she shared just off Central Park. All in all, her reputation was probably what got her as many shows as she did, along with her skill and appearance. She was twenty-one, but she still looked like a sixteen year old. Good genes and her illness made her quite thin. Being so tiny tended to annoy her when she was shopping, but it had never stopped her from one of her favourite pastimes. Sorina blinked her baby blues to come back to the present. She really had to learn to stay in the moment and not allow her mind to wander as it always did. Rina nodded, understanding fully what wandering off meant. Thankfully, for her at least, she’d never been holding anything scalding when she decided to zone out.
“I’ve been outsmarted by less intelligent things. Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me,” she said with a conspiratorial smile. She wasn’t usually clumsy, it would hardly be good for a runway model, but technologies those were a different matter entirely. Some, probably most thought those were more intelligent, but Sor didn’t always agree. She knew how to use a computer, but it had taken her mother several lessons in the hospital and then at home for her to feel comfortable with it for when she started school. Her iPod took her months to fully understand and it had taken her techno-geek sister to help her with that during the summer she’d bought it and Lina was traveling with her around Europe and South America.
Hell, even now, Lina was still the one that added the new music from iTunes. Rina just made a list and left it on the kitchen counter for her baby sister to take and add. And no one wanted to get Sorina started on her phone! She actually cried when she had to get the damn thing replaced. For the past three, she’d just figured them out and then something would break so she’d have to go in and get a new one and it would take her another million years to get that one. Sorina was many things, but technologically inclined was not one of them.

Lexi very rarely had accidents of any variation. She was always the careful daughter who made sure that everything was safe before she did something and whilst she was very much a dreamer, she was usually able to save such fantasies and worrisome thoughts for times when she wasn’t in such a public location regardless of how quiet the lounge may have been. The petite brunette with her asymmetrical hair was a private person, despite the social circle she drifted in. She only gave enough information to keep her position, but never went ahead and discussed dreams of the future, because her friends were never really interested in anything of the sort and Lexi had a very strong feeling that some of those girls were only searching for a man whose wealth would rival theirs so that they could live a comfortable life in which their only concern was finding the perfect designer outfit to wear to the next debutante ball or gala. She had been to a few herself, but almost always opted for a modest dress like her sisters, Lexi refusing to flaunt her money with a bazillion dollar dress that she’d be too scared to sit in in case it crumples and ruined the delicate material.
However, Lexi did dwell on the past a little too much and it had been thoughts of what had been that had led to her little slip with the coffee mug. Whenever her father scolded her for such things, she always smiled and shrugged, reminding him that his baby girl was aiming to be an historian so the past really was where she belonged. As strange as it may have seemed, the young woman with the high heels and fashionable clothing adored the days of old, reading constantly about history all around the world, loving to learn more about the different cultures and their traditions that may have faded away with the numerous invasions, conquests and dictatorships. It was sad to see the beauty of them vanish with time, listening to stories of those who were fighting to keep their past alive in the small countries or regions. The more she read about them the more Lexi wanted to fly out there and experience it all first hand and there had been occasions when she had thought about doing just that after she graduated. However, she was shy and quiet girl and travelling alone around the world was something she just couldn’t do. What if she got into trouble? Couldn’t speak the language? Got lost in some strange town? There were too many worries playing on her mind but it didn’t keep the little dreamer from dreaming about it.
Lexi smiled at the girl, brushing her hair from her eyes, making a mental note to get a quick trim over the weekend before the mocha locks were poking her dangerously in the eyes. “Still doesn’t look the best though. I’m lucky it’s practically a ghost town in here today.”
Her dark rimmed eyes flicked across the length of the lounge, noticing that people had hardly moved an inch since before her little error. At least something good came out of this and no one really saw her make the foolish mistake; her friends would never let her live down spilling coffee on a pair of $990 shoes all because she was off in the clouds, thinking about things they knew nothing about. It wouldn’t be a good look for her at all. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED! Rina <3 WORDS! 620 OUTFIT! Sweet Darling LYRICS! Rina wasn’t used to the quiet that these days at school brought, when it was cold out and there were hardly any students. It made her think of the times when she was in the hospital; children’s or not, it was still quiet. And she had always been a loud youngster before that summer. So, it was odd to see the youth stuck in a bed with tubes and wires and not be able to do much else but read. Fortunately, her determination, or rather stubbornness she’d gotten from her mother, wouldn’t allow her to sulk or lay around listlessly. Thanks to that determination, stubbornness or whatever, little Sorina pushed herself into winning her war, finishing high school early and attending College on her own terms. It was a place of pride, all of her accomplishments, even if they started out with a tragic beginning that she rarely spoke of.
Oh her career, she spoke of, but in an offhand sort of way. Not because she thought it was better than whatever everyone else was doing, or anything superficial like that, it was just that it was sort of a means to an end, in a way. Being a model allowed her to wear clothing she would never have been able to afford, travel all over the world, meeting new people and it allowed her to do some crazy things thanks to the money she earned. The craziest of all, at least to her mother, was packing up and leaving Romania behind. It was an amusing concept, when you figured in that Sorina had a darling habit of going sky-diving when she could just because she could, and she’d jumped off of bridges all over the world, watched the running of the bulls, although that wasn’t actually supposed to happen. Her photo shoot had been set back a couple days due to scheduling and so instead of leaving the day before the run, she left the day after.
But all of that had given her other things as well. It had given her knowledge of other languages, although simple as her skills were, it gave her interests and hobbies more depth and it gave her friends to travel with, when neither of her parents could tag along. By the time she turned sixteen, she’d already had a body guard for six months, and who could really boast that, besides children of dignitaries or presidents? She wasn’t sick of the spotlight, she’d like to go back to it, but for the moment, she wanted to take a partial break. She still worked, but she went to school as well, and now, she could get her sister to tag along. All the pretty clothes and such didn’t really make up for the loss of her childhood, or her odd teenage years, but she was okay with that. In the end, it would get her to her goal, and that was the point of the plan, right?
Sor smiled at the other girl, nodding her head. “It doesn’t look all that great, but it’s not so bad, so it shouldn’t scar unless you’re prone to it,” She said as though she were a doctor. Of course, her years in the hospital didn’t give her a degree; it did give her some insight. And her pediatrician, whom she fondly still refers to as her uncle, taught her a lot when he stuck around to chat, and see how far along she was with her school work. Sorina glanced around the space. There really were only a few students in the room. Rina raised a brow and smirked, she could have sworn there were more students. But of course, she had to admit, she did get a little single minded when it came to writing her notes. She had a terrible habit of zoning out everything around her while she scribbled away in her bright notebooks. “I didn’t realize there were so few people. I would have sworn there were more,” Rina shrugged, voicing her thoughts, “Just shows where my mind is, too, right?” she said, laughing at herself.

Post by Lexi Piper Ryanne on Aug 10, 2011 5:15:00 GMT -5
Quiet days really only provided Lexi with the chance to do some extra work. She wasn’t a geek and she didn’t live in the library, but she like having the safety of some extra work under her belt. It meant that if she had a bad exam or fell sick during midterm week, then she had a safety net to fall back on to support her good grades. It was useful and enjoyable to write about things she found interesting. History was such a vast subject that it was difficult to really say that every part of it was enjoyable. Parts of it really did drag and Lexi reached a point where she honestly thought that if she learnt anymore about certain historical events, her brain would explode. Days like today allowed her to delve back into the library archives to find and study the parts she simply couldn’t get enough of though and she would probably do that after lunch when she was a little more awake and a little more prepared; clearly, throwing coffee over herself told her otherwise right now.
It wasn’t a good look for anyone; burnt with a hint of caffeine. As good as it was supposed to be for her skin, she didn’t want to wear it right now! Eurgh, her skin, her figure, her hair…they were just more things to worry about and unlike most girls, she didn’t worry about them in some superficial sort of sense. After suffering from bulimia, Lexi knew the telltale signs of ill health and most of the time, they started with looks and physical appearance. She was comfortable with herself now, but that could change at the drop of a hat if she wasn’t careful and then it was herself who began to look different in the mirror once more. No one knew of her struggle outside of her family and right now there was no need for anyone to know either. She was healthy, enjoying her days at college and her family had worked hard to get her the best therapist and rehabilitation centre money could afford. At least that was one upside to her blue blooded upbringing. The Ryanne family had more money than they knew what to do with and whilst they donated heavily to local and worldwide charities and fundraisers, they still had enough to save the family working for years to come. It was in their blood though, to strive for the best, to work hard and to follow their own dreams. That was why her father still worked with his business, her mother still ran her events and why the daughters all had careers and dreams of their own. Lexi knew, with more certainty that she ever needed, that if she had to stay at home day in and day out and just spend the money her family had accumulated over the years, she would probably be driven to the brink of insanity and beyond.
Lexi looked at the patchy red skin and sighed softly. She still bore the tan from the summer vacation which seemed to help hide the scalded skin from her naturally pale complexion. She wasn’t the kind of girl to spend hours in the sun, on a sunbed or at any form or tanning salon, but even walking through the streets of Crete had turned her skin the tanned shade that even factor fifty hadn’t been able to keep at bay, although that could be thanks to Lexi forgetting to reapply it when she was chatting with the handsome Greek brothers who carried her bags to the loaned car her father had rented for her. “I’m prone to many things, but scarring, luckily, isn’t one of them.”
She answered, pulling her thoughts from the handsome Greek countryside and the men to match. Lexi’s dark eyes looked around the room, the longer part of her hair tickling her chin. “It’s winter. Most people didn’t want to pull themselves from their beds this morning.” She answered with a soft shrug. It was probably the reason most of her friends weren’t there; a warm bed was much more tempting than a cold classroom. “Well, at least you’re not making a fool of yourself.” She smiled, throwing the napkins in the bin and sipping the hot drink that had caused all of this mess. Rina wasn’t a geek, exactly, but she was quite the nerd. She couldn’t deny that. What else had there been to do when she was sitting around in a hospital bed, doing nothing for a few years? She’d taken to reading, and read everything, so no, she couldn’t deny being a nerd. When she was backstage at shows, or taking a break from shoots, she usually had her head in a textbook or a book quite a few of her fellow models wouldn’t understand in the least; unfortunately. She tried to teach some of the other girls about what she was reading, but it didn’t usually last long before they either got disinterested, or Rina gave up due to frustration.
It wasn’t fun sometimes; which was really the whole reason she’d chosen to take a partial holiday from her career to get her degree and education. She was well aware how the industry treated the models. One minute you were the next big thing and the next you were referred to as that girl who used to be the face of this fashion house or that perfume brand. It was better to have something with more depth to fall back on and it almost made Rina glad she’d had to spend all that time in the hospital. At least after she was done with school, she’d have a degree to fall back on. Rina smiled, “Well, I’m glad, probably wouldn’t be the best accessory,” she said, jokingly, and probably failing. She wasn’t good at things like that. For someone who made a living looking down the lens of a camera, flirting and conversing with people and generally having a good time, Sorina wasn’t all that good at holding a conversation. She tended to put her foot in her mouth and blurt things out that she hadn’t meant to say in the first place. This was quite possibly one of those times, but she was going to make the best of it. She didn’t know many people at the school and talking to this girl couldn’t be that bad right? Well, not unless put her foot in it again.
Sorina looked towards the window and sighed. If only she had that choice. Well, technically, she did, but she would never allow herself to take a day off when she didn’t need it. Call her stubborn or determined or nerdy, it didn’t matter, she wasn’t going to fail with this. “If only we all had that choice,” she muttered, turning her attention back to Lexi. Rina nodded, laughing along. “Yes, but the day is still young, and I am quite possibly the biggest klutz I know amongst my friends,” she admitted. It wasn’t exactly the best trait for a runway model, but when she was strutting her stuff down the catwalk, she was poised and graceful; backstage was where the problems began. She tripped over cords, fell into chairs. But the four times that had happened, she’d been caught up in the music playing through her headphones and hadn’t really been paying attention. Of course two of those times hadn’t exactly been her fault entirely, but like then, whenever it was brought up, all the people involved, and there were like 4, laughed like lunatics.

Lexi herself was a friendly enough girl, and usually shied away from the socialite lifestyle her mother and sisters opted to be part of. She couldn’t exactly avoid it, considering her family’s role in upper Manhattan social circles, but she did manage to blend into the background, allowing her sisters to have the limelight whenever fancy dinners or galas cropped up on the Ryanne calendar. She only posed for the necessary photographs and then shared the rest of her night with a quiet group of her own age who also opted to avoid the big gatherings and false laughter that came from the other side of the room whilst the band played music that had their parents dancing politely on the dance floor, just for appearances sake. However, at university, none of that mattered and she could just stand around like this and chat nonsense about spilt coffee when there was nothing else to do. She could make friends easily enough, it was just a little harder to keep them in the long run, especially when only a small portion of herself was on display to whoever she met, depending on what would appeal to them best.
This girl just seemed like a regular kid though, and Lexi appreciated that. It was nice to meet someone not playing a role, or aiming to fit a certain stereotype. It seemed that was what her world was filled of and there was almost a fear of ‘not being good enough’ unspoken by many. Some people came to college simply to impress their family, trying to show they could be just as good as – insert name here - who had gone on to do great things with their life, making the family proud as punch. She saw it with a few of her friends who were studying to be doctors, mainly because their fathers or mothers were and it was something that was intended to be genetically passed down like the flaming red hair, or the freckles that still danced across their noses. “I could imagine my sister’s reaction; ‘you’ll have to be standing to the left of me now in photos, you’ll throw the height plan out, but we can’t have a mangled hand on show.’
She put on a good impression of her sister’s higher pitched voice and then shook her head. She adored her sisters to bits, but sometimes their priorities were a little bit off. Lexi smiled and looked up at the blonde, carefully moving a chocolate chunk of hair from her eyes. It was nearing that time of the month when she got it chopped off again, the longer side feeling heavier on her head, though the cut would expose her neck and ears to the bitter winds and frost of the city again. Alas, the pains of being a girl and needing to think about your appearance of a morning. “Tell me about it. Unless I was actually sick, I’d probably feel so much guilt about missing a day that I’d end up putting in double the work for the rest of the semester.” Lexi hated being lazy and she hated people who had a half-assed attitude about their education and what it meant. The small brunette shifter her weight from left to right and then shook her head. “I’m sure you’ll still be standing by the end of it.” She smiled warmly.
