Dawson wanted tonight to be fun and full of jokes and laughter. He didn’t see the point in those serious and formal first dates because there was so much pressure to be someone special that most of the time it missed the general idea of getting to know someone. Fist pumping the air, Dawson added an evil cackle to his act and then turned to face the ceiling as though this was all some totally cheesy 80s horror movie. “Eternal fame and glory shall be mine!”
He bellowed, chuckling at the slight echo that came back to them. “Was my last performance not good enough for you, Miss Patterson? Or, do you want something more…private.” He teased, quickly turning the joke into an excuse to flirt pretty heavily with the attractive blonde he had serenaded once already. Shrugging as though it was entirely out of his hands, Dawson looked down at KC with a tight lipped smile. “What can I say? If you want the talent you have to be willing to negotiate.” Grinning across, he kept silent this time. He did actually want to get her to their last destination for this date and knew that if he could get his way now that they probably wouldn’t make it at all and then he’d have to find a way to take her there some other time and it wouldn’t quite be the same. “Relax, I’ve seen people do worse coming in here. One guy managed to dismantle a small chunk of the course with one of those basic jumps.” The kid had misjudged the distance, flew over his target and kicked out the structure of the one they were currently standing on, which then fell into another piece Dawson hadn’t assembled for tonight and…it was messy, but luckily that kid was the only beginning and the seasoned professionals had known how to avoid falling into any of the chaos he had set in motion. Dawson let out a warm laugh and nodded. “Of course, now pay attention. I’ll do the full set in one go, but I’ll keep it slower than usual.” He didn’t want KC to race into it and fall off or injure herself; he hadn’t allowed time for a hospital trip in the middle of all of this. Jogging back to the start of the mini course, he hopped across the platforms with ease and slowed down just a fraction to show her the final move that she had stumbled on. “Go on, give that a shot now.” He said, his hands resting on his hips as he stepped well out of the way to watch her for a second time. This time he could look at the whole set from a wider angle and judge if there was anything that she needed to fix. Sometimes it seemed ridiculous, but the tiniest of posture improvements could make all the difference between landing a jump and missing it. KC rolled her eyes at the super villain routine, though she didn’t say anything. The only show of emotion was the eye roll she gave. Grinning wickedly, KC leaned up on her tip toes to get closer, resting her hands on his biceps. “Your last performance wasn’t nearly enough for my liking,” she said, biting her lower lip, looking up at him through her lashes. She could be coy when she wanted to be, though she hardly ever felt the need play shy unless she was blatantly flirting with Dawson. She’d say in general but she couldn’t when she didn’t mean it, even in her thoughts she couldn’t say she flirted with everyone. If it mattered to her job, getting tips or something, she would flirt but she wouldn’t play shy about it, only subtle. And that game, she had yet to play with Dawson. She was obvious in her flirty quips.
With her hands already on his arms, KC let them roam upwards to wrap loosely around his shoulders. She took a small step closer, bringing her body nearly against his. “I am an excellent negotiator, doll,” She whispered, using his own pet name against him. “Yikes,” KC said, making a face at the damage that would have been done to the set up. Landing safely on the ground, KC smiled, happily. It was such a small thing, to land a jump but it still pleased her to do so. She clapped her hands, determined to at least get this simple task mastered. She went back to the start of the course and watched her date go for another turn.
This time, he went through everything they’d done and KC watched the last jump carefully. She wasn’t slipping again. With Dawson safely out of the way, KC took a deep breath, counted to three and moved through the first two parts with grace and ease. The third she didn’t want to mess up again so she pushed herself a little harder, moved a little faster and hauled herself up and onto the perch easier the second time around. Grinning like a fool, the blonde film student indulged in a little victory dance. Laughing, happy she’d made it this time around. “I did it!” she said excitedly hugging Dawson close.
It never failed; whenever she did something right that first time through with whatever sport she was practicing, she got excited about it. And really, wasn’t that the point of practice? But she quickly came down from her high. They had other places to be tonight and as much fun as staying around this course would have been, she was curious to know what else Dawson had planned for their evening. She stepped back and moved to the edge of the perch as she spoke, “So, are sweats needed at the next stop or can I switch back to my jeans?” she asked, looking down to gauge the height from there to the padded floor beneath.

The flirt that Dawson could be, he found himself only spurred on by the coy little act KC put on. He couldn’t resist her, especially not when they seemed to find small breaks in their casual conversation for this sort of obvious flirting. His hands reached out to find her waist, pulling her closer as he gazed down at her, the mischievous twinkle still there in his dark eyes. “Well, I guess I’ll just have to do better next time. Maybe…a more intimate show, longer performance and even an encore.”
He smiled flirtatiously and then pressed a single, sweet kiss to the top of her neck, just below her jawline. “You also appear to be a thief, doll.” He whispered in her ear, his lips twitching into a smirk as he pulled her just a bit closer. He couldn’t help but love how they could go from flirting quite terribly back to their casual hanging out and running a Parkour track. Dawson, when looking for a date to well, liked to have that balance like a cooling off period. He was by no means the perfect gentleman, in fact, he was far from it and he had no qualms about taking a girl home on the first date, but he didn’t want to be all about that, and that was not his intention for tonight. Tonight was different and while he was keeping himself in check, barely, he wanted KC to have some adrenaline inducing fun. Dawson watched as she ran the course again, noticing the change in her final move this time around and grinning as he realised that she had nailed it this time. He clapped his hands together and then returned her hug, picking her up and spinning her around as he laughed in celebration for her. They were only baby steps as far as Parkour was concerned, but they were also pretty darn important to any routine or path that someone took. Once she had it down so that it was more instinctive than remembered, he could show her something else, something with a little more difficulty. “Almost like a pro!” He grinned, messing her hair up affectionately, before hopping down from the platform in a more straightforward jump this time. Catching a glimpse of the time again, Dawson pushed his hair back from his face and stepped away from the course. They’d have to leave soon, as much as he would love to keep running the course all night long. Laughing, he glanced back at his date and nodded his head. “You can put your jeans back on, but don’t think that this date is about to let up any.” He said, playfully warning her as he crossed to the bench where his things were. “We ought to get going in a few minutes, otherwise we’ll miss it.” He was keeping it as much of a surprise as the rest of the date had been and there was no way she would figure out what mystery stop or action plan number three were, of that, he was certain. Being with Dawson kept KC on her toes and kept her from thinking about her worries. She had finals, a script to write and a film to make that she still needed to finish casting. And she was helping with a couple of her classmate’s films as well. The blonde film student wasn’t like some of her shyer classmates, she didn’t mind being in front of the camera. She didn’t want to spend the rest of her life spouting lines someone else wrote, being directed by another person. She liked the inner workings of behind the scenes. If she made it, and there was a role that jumped out at her, she would audition. But that was well off, she had more concerns at the moment and even those weren’t surfaces. She was having too much fun with Dawson. “That might do it,” she said, closing her eyes to enjoy the few seconds the sweet kiss lasted. KC laughed warmly. “You say thief, I saw borrower,” she said casually, wrapping her arms tighter around his shoulders.
It was fun to be able to flirt one minute and go on to serious conversation the next. It was rare to find that. It was either all business or all flirtation; they had both. And it was fun to just spring up with some flirty comment. And they had the adrenaline rush to share between them. It was a small part of why KC was so drawn to the crazy man. She didn’t ever know what to expect. She knew the course Dawson had set up was a basic one, he’d said as much. But it was still exciting to go through the entire course without missing a beat. She hadn’t the first time, but if she had it wouldn’t have been half so much fun or exciting when she did it the second. KC rolled her eyes, laughing when Dawson set her on her feet again. “Hardly,” she said, brushing her hand over the top of her head after the mess it was sure to be in after his hands were messing it up.
KC followed suit, jumping down off the platform rather lazily for her. “I would be very disappointed otherwise,” she said, grinning as she slipped into the janitor’s closet to change. She wasn’t opposed to changing in front of Dawson but she wanted to add a little mystery to the night from her side, even if it was as simple as hiding the leopard hipsters she was wearing. She switched quickly, shoving her feet through her well-worn jeans. She was folding the sweats back up as she pushed the door open and checked a hip into it to close it again. She’d kicked her shoes off before stepping into the impromptu change room, so when she came back out, she set the pants on the bench, sat on the floor and shoved her shoes back on, quickly enough. Standing again, she pulled her hair free of the elastic and shook it out again. She didn’t know if she’d need to put her hair up again once they got to their next destination, she would just worry about that when the time came. “Ready,” she said, clapping her hands together.

He looked her over with a twinkle in his eyes, as though assessing her overall appearance. “No, I think I would’ve recognised you if you were hiding in the nooks and crannies of my apartment.”
He said with a cheeky little wink before he stepped away, focusing his mind on the rest of the night and the activities he had already planned. He didn’t want to get side tracked now when there was still one final stop on this grand date that he had pieced together for tonight, giving KC a chance to do some things she would love and give her a glimpse into the life of the man she had forced into quite the chase to get this first date. Dawson had never been the kind of guy to get serious in a relationship, but he also wasn’t someone who would play around. He had made mistakes in the past and dated people who he did imagine one day maybe settling down for, but fate had different ideas in mind and so far there had been no one who could change his ways. He enjoyed being able to flirt and then go back to doing or talking about something else. Relationships could be wonderful things, but for Dawson they were not the be all and end all in life. At his age, it was still all about having fun and making the most of his life before he had to make the decisions that would shape his future. After four years of college, he wanted to spend some time living his life and exploring his options for later years. If KC wanted to join him on this crazy ride until he found his place in the world, then that would only make things better. Once back in the car, Dawson began to drive a little further away from the towering skyscrapers and closer to the water’s edge. The beach was fairly empty by this hour and the wind had definitely picked up without the large buildings to block its force. The conditions were absolutely perfect for Dawson’s final event of the night. Of everything he had planned for KC, this was the one that could’ve resulted in some last minute scrambling for a new plan, but the weather was on Dawson’s side and he had been monitoring it all day with phone calls to friends and checks on the internet. Parking his car close to the beach, he grinned across at KC and wiggled his eyebrows, wondering if she had the slightest clue of what he had planned for her next. “You better be ready for this, doll.” He smirked and pushed his hair back from his face before leading KC down to the sand, waving across to another man, another friend. His final adventure for the night was a little more physical, but it could be great fun and a great adrenaline rush. Grabbing a bag from the sand, he turned to KC and grinned. “You need to put these on.” He had a bag for himself too, and inside was a helmet, elbow and knee pads and some fingerless gloves. Their adventure was a little further down the sand, but he wanted to keep up some of the mystery for now and keep KC wondering for just a moment more. KC wasn’t looking for anything serious. She was twenty-one, she had plenty of adventures to get to before she decided it was time to settle down. She was young, carefree and the most she had to worry about was getting to work on time and making sure her assignments weren’t late. After college, KC wanted to do something before she had to search for a job to start her career. She wanted to be a director. She wanted to sit with writers, work through plotlines, stories and background development for characters. But the young blonde wanted to have a break before real life kicked in and there would be no time for frivolous trips to European destinations.
She didn’t know what Dawson had planned for the night. Then again, trying to get inside that man’s head was a tricky and better left alone. He was fun to be around though; a hell of a lot more fun than the few guys that could be linked to the pretty blonde. Try as she might, there hadn’t been a time in her past when she couldn’t predict what was coming with those dates. They weren’t exactly mistakes, but they weren’t worthy of being dwelled on either. With Dawson, she never knew what to expect, it kept her on her toes and she liked that. It wasn’t easily done for the adrenaline junkie. Back in the car, KC kept up an easy conversation while looking out the windows to see where her date was taking her to next. The possibilities were endless in a city like New York; even more so since this night began.
She had no idea what she thought he might have planned next, but like everything else so far, the beach hadn’t factored. KC grinned in return. “I’m ready for anything,” she said, getting out of the car. As she followed Dawson down the beach, she glanced over at the guy Dawson was waving to, presumably another buddy helping out with tough plans. He handed her a bag and she glanced inside before setting it on the sand and tying her hair back up in a low, loose bun. With her hair out of her face again, KC suited up. Now that she looked like a fool, though properly protected for whatever was coming her way, she set her hands on her hips. “Alright, Hans, what have you got planned next?”

There was really no way that Dawson could sit down and just talk about his hobbies. If KC had asked for a ‘normal’ date then that would probably be what she would’ve expected; calm conversation, a few questions and nice detailed answers with witty anecdotes. Dawson couldn’t do that even if he tried. He got too excited and needed to physically show what he was talking about, which wasn’t exactly the easiest thing to do, especially not when they were in some fancy restaurant where there was etiquette to maintain and a certain attitude to have. KC had seemed interested in Dawson’s adrenaline junkie lifestyle from the moment they had met and he wanted to give her a glimpse into all of that since he was sure she would appreciate it.
This final stage of their date was probably the least controlled part of it. Once they were started, there would be no stages to practice, no set path to take, it really would be as free as they wanted it to be. All she needed for this was some confidence and a decent sense of balance, and he had seen her on the ice. He was pretty certain that he could pull this off without a hitch and while there might be a bump or two and aching muscles in the morning, he felt confident now that she was safely padded up that they could avoid any trips to the ER.
Dawson had a whole host of other activities that he classed as his hobbies, but he couldn’t fit them all into one night and some of them needed a whole day to really enjoy, if they could even be done in the city. He had a chance for one more big surprise for KC though and this was it. Once he was kitted up too, he grinned across at KC and led her a little further along the beach, swinging her around in his arms playfully before picking up another harness and winking at her. “So you don’t run away.”
He joked, waiting for her to step in it before tightening the straps securely around her, taking a sly moment to tickle her side before dealing with his own harnesses. There was still plenty of mobility for them both and then he waved his friend over who brought two large bags with him for Dawson to take before quickly leaving the couple alone. Unzipping the first one, he grinned at KC and then tossed the contents to the sand, repeating the same with the other before finally giving KC some more information. “How are you at flying kites, doll?” Bending down to position the four wheeled board in front of her, he gently took one of her legs and strapped her feet securely to it, letting her step up with the other before doing the same with her other foot.. “Okay, on my say so, take the top of these handles up from your waist and then back in towards your stomach. It’ll get the kite in the air for you.” He strapped the handles for the kite to her arms and then gave her hold of the large metal handles, placing her fingers around the rubber grips. “Don’t worry, these straps on your arms take most of the weight, your hands just do the steering.” Glancing down the sand he saw the kites already laid out in the correct position with the weight bags keeping them grounded for now. “Once you’re off, spread your arms out slightly, lean back and then just pull on the handles to move right or left. If you need to stop for whatever reason or whenever you fancy, pull the handles together and in again and the kite will come back down.” He said. With kite landboarding, there was very little by way of classes and it really was a case of trial and error with a good few tumbles involved from time to time, but the sand broke most falls. He moved a safe distance from her and then fixed his own strapping and harnesses, positioning himself on the board and jumping slightly to test its grip. He knew tricks for this too and did not need to be losing the board like he had done once before. Waiting for the wind to start tugging at the kites on the ground, Dawson bent down to grab the weighted ropes holding them in place, tugging them off the canvas and then quickly straightening up again. “Okay, pull!” He shouted, doing what he had told KC to do and laughing as his kite reached the sky and began dragging him across the sand at a good pace for starting off. He glanced across at KC to see how she was doing and grinned at her. “You okay, doll?” Keeping his kite straight his wheels moved quicker across the sand now. KC had a list of all the activities and hobbies she had. She’d been bored one day and actually wrote them all out. And considering she usually had a ton of things to do, it was amazing she’d actually had the time to draw up that list. But she had it. Whatever Dawson had planned for this next part, KC was clueless over. She really didn’t know what to expect and even less so after he’d handed over that bag of safety equipment. Either way, she was excited. She wouldn’t admit she was a tiny bit nervous because, well, she wasn’t really. Whatever Dawson had planned for them, she trusted him. He wouldn’t do something exceptionally dangerous, especially since they were still in that awkward stage of trying to impress each other. Not that he had to; KC was already quite impressed and already smitten.
Laughing at the surprise spin, she stole a quick kiss, deciding it was more fun to be brazen than to wait for a better opportunity. “I haven’t yet,” she said with a devilish smirk as she stepped into the harness and watched as Dawson tightened it properly. She let out another squeal, slapping his hand away and then his chest. “Stop that,” she said, trying to look annoyed, though she would have put money of her failing miserably. She was enjoying herself too much to let her being ticklish ruin it. KC watched with equal parts fascination and confusion as Dawson’s friend brought a couple bags over and her date emptied them onto the sand. She still didn’t have any idea what they were doing, even with hints and clues scattered on the soft sand.
How was she at flying kites? Simple answer, she didn’t; at least, not since she was a little kid. It had been a light hobby she’d done with her sister and father when there had been breaks between school, dance and sports. When the girls got older and started to do their separate activities, kite flying sort of became one of those ‘we used to do that’ hobbies. KC could still remember one Sunday the three of them packed a picnic lunch and spent a good portion of the day at the big park a block away from their house. She couldn’t have been more than eight at the time and dance and sports were just starting to take up more and more time. They had tossed around a Frisbee, let some kites flying among the clouds and ate poorly made turkey sandwiches with carrot and celery sticks while sipping on apple juice boxes. “I guess we’re about to find out,” she said honestly, letting Dawson lift her leg onto the board.
KC let Dawson place her hands where they were supposed to go. For once she could claim she had absolutely no idea what she was getting herself into. She could skateboard, but this obviously wasn’t that. While he was doing that, she listened to everything he was saying. It looked like this was her training session, this speech he had going. She was really out of her element in this but she enjoyed trying new things, so she acquainted herself with the equipment in her hands, allowing herself get comfortable with the new toys. She kept glancing over at Dawson in case she missed something but he went through the same routine with himself as he did her. It was just a point of waiting until he was ready before she could try her turn at this newest treat. When he yelled, she did has he had instructed, watching as the kite flew up to the sky. The board jerked a bit at first, with that first spin of the wheels on sand. She laughed at Dawson’s question, shaking her head. “Perfect!” she called back, trying to pick up a bit of speed and figure out how everything worked for herself. She’d heard the explanation, but when it came to her, firsthand experience was what the blonde film student needed.

There was a box room in Dawson’s apartment that was apparently intended to be a utility room by the building’s designer, but Dawson used it to store everything he had for his hobbies. The kites they had now were usually bagged up in there along with the variety of boards, bags of ropes and climbing gear and his necessities for snow and water sports. Really, to anyone who didn’t know him, it probably looked like something of a junk room, chaotic from the second the door was pushed open. Dawson knew where everything was though and he knew that his mom would agree it was better to have one tiny room that looked like an explosion had happened in it, rather than having everything scattered throughout his apartment making it look like he was either moving out or getting robbed on a daily basis.
He had to grin at her playful protests. Dawson was certain that he would find a way to work KC’s ticklish weakness to his advantage sooner or later; it was one of the fun downfalls a person could have, after all. Right now though, he was more concerned with keeping her out of the ER, which was why he made sure everything was secure before throwing himself into the process; for him, it was instinctive now and he could set himself up without needing to think about it. Kite landboarding really was something a person had to get a feel for themselves. It was fun to watch, but entirely difference to experience and while tricks could be taught, it was really more of a “do this and that” approach that had to be practiced, whereas Parkour had the indoor set up Dawson had taken KC that was filled with cushioned and padded surfaces and there were silly little safety tricks that could be done to get the basics and the confidence to put them into practice without harnesses and people holding other people up. On the beach, they had none of that and if either of them fell over Dawson knew from experience that it would be a face full of sand and limbs tangled in rope wire; no matter how good you got that outcome was always the same.
Dawson had no doubt that KC would pick this up relatively quickly. It was fairly straightforward after a bit of practice and the only thing that Dawson knew always hindered someone was if they weren’t confident. The more people worried about falling over, the more it actually happened. Relaxing, using the wind and being observant was usually enough to at least keep the board moving and the harnesses held a person in place when the wind picked up, which it did. Dawson, forever the show off, worked it to his advantage and pulled on handles at the right time so that his board sped up. Bending his knees he timed his jump carefully, feeling the wheels leaving the sand as he twisted in the air, tugging hard before he landed in the sand, the grains flying up as he quickly regained control to turn around to see where KC was. “So, does this beat a fancy dinner in a posh restaurant?”
He called out, feeling the wind pulling on his kite hard again. It wasn’t often that he got to do this, but he did love it more and more with each chance he got to ride the sand. KC hated having to dress up and parade around like she was interested in being at a fancy restaurant when she went out on the rare date. Usually her films and scripts were more important to her, so she spent her time working on those to make them even better than she started with. Having a date like this was different and highly unusual. Dawson was fun to be around and he had tried so hard to get KC to say yes. And she was very happy that she had done. This date was nothing like she’d ever been on and the blonde film student knew that as soon as she walked through her apartment door, Tabs would turn on the movie she was watching to grill her twin until KC either told her everything or fell into a coma from all the fun. She didn’t mind sharing the events of the evening with her sister, though she would be sure to avoid the abseiling and possibly the Parkour, though she was still on the fence with that one since they were in a training room.
Still, it all beat out terrible dinners by a single candle’s light, with portions that wouldn’t feed Gerald, let alone his owner and boring conversation that had KC wishing something weird would happen so she’d have something to go home to her sister with. Tonight, even if she had to omit some things, she had that. This part of the date, she would definitely be spilling to her sister. She’d never done anything like this before and honestly didn’t know how land boarding worked, but she was trying and that seemed like the best that could be done. If there were any rules or tricks to get a grip of the task a little easier, Dawson was keeping it to himself. KC didn’t think he would do that if there was a chance she’d hurt herself, he’d warned her every time they stopped at the next place. And this wouldn’t have been any different. Plus there was sand all around them, if she happened to do something wrong, the sand was, hopefully, soft enough to lighten the blow she’d take with a fall.
She was taking it in stride and trying to figure it out as she went along. Once she got the hang of it, it didn’t seem all that hard, but of course, she wasn’t sure what she was doing either and right now staying on the board was her main concern. KC rolled her eyes, laughing at the show off she was calling a date for the evening. There was no way in hell she would be able to even try and do the trick Dawson just had but it was fun to watch and quite impressive. She was all for trying new things, new tricks and such, but she wasn’t quite ready yet, to attempt any tricks, twists or turns. “Absolutely! This is great,” she called back, laughing still.

Dawson had always found a way to balance his college work with his social life. He made good grades, kept on the teacher’s good sides and found a way to maintain an active social life too; there weren’t many days where Dawson just stayed in and chose to watch TV or play video games. Those were usually reserved for the days when he was sick and the flu had kept him bedridden. He was a bit of a show off and the first to admit it, too. That was one of the reasons why he had gone to such lengths to get a date from KC and why he had gone to all the trouble to make sure that tonight was a unique experience for her. The second she had mentioned an interest in Parkour that day at the ice rink, Dawson was more determined than ever to make sure that he got to spend at least one evening with her, showing her the city life the way he lived it.
He wouldn’t be the kind of guy to brag about how tonight went, though he knew that the friends who had helped him organise everything would ask questions the next time that he saw them. Other than it all going well, he didn’t know what else he could say to them. It was an unsolved mystery how girls found so much to talk about after a date, but Dawson was having a good time and it seemed like KC was too, so that was all that really mattered to him as he executed another spin with the board attached to his feet firmly. Losing it was not fun and usually resulted in a mouthful of sand and a tangle of kite string. He had done that once or twice before and it was a mistake he was not keen to repeat again.
He grin only grew once he knew that KC was having a good time again. It was a little tricky to get the hang of, but for the basic part of land boarding it really was best to get out there and learn it for yourself, even if there were a few trips and stumbles along the way. It was how Dawson had learnt it. Really, he could tell someone how to manoeuvre the kite to manipulate it, but it was hard to show the whole thing in action, especially the jumps and tricks since they happened so fast and it wasn’t safe to have someone standing so close to really examine each movement someone did. Dawson found it the best way to learn though; getting out on your own and giving it a shot, chasing away any nerves and fears. After a little while longer, Dawson felt the muscles in his arms and realised that KC might be getting a little tired out from their adventurous date. “Remember how to stop?”
He asked, slowing down and pulling on the handles to lower his kite to the ground, the board coasting to an awkward stop. It might be time to grab something to eat from one of the diners up on the street. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED!KC! WORDS! 560 OUTFIT! Suave Mate LYRICS! KC didn’t usually try to balance the different parts of her life. School and work came well before having a social life. And if she could get away without working for her half of everything, she would. But her move to New York had been to prove she didn’t need her family to support her; she could do it all on her own. Of course, having her sister around didn’t count, and convincing her to move to New York with her took an entire year before she said yes anyway. So there was that first year when the blonde’s world consisted of hours at work, hours on campus and hours in front of her laptop wherever she was, whenever she could put the time in. she could finally breathe a little easier when Tabs moved in and she stopped taking as many hours so she could hang out with her twin.
She was having a difficult time at first to get the hang of the landboarding, but she was having fun with it all the same. She was nowhere near ready for tricks or much more than the basics, but she was having fun with it all the same. She loved these activities but usually went out of town on weekend trips when she could get the chance for rock climbing; and abseiling whenever she got back to Arizona. She never told Tabs about her activities because she didn’t want her to worry. She’d been at these adventures for years now and nothing too terrible had ever happened, so there was nothing to worry about in KC’s eyes.
“By falling gracefully?” She asked, sounding purposefully nervous. KC could remember Dawson telling her how to stop but she wasn’t sure if she’d remembered right, still, she took a shot and what could really happen aside from falling face first into the sand and possibly breaking a bone, or two. She pulled the handles together and into her stomach like he’d said. She couldn’t remember if that was going to take her faster or slow her down, but grinned pleased with herself when she slowed to a stop. She untangled herself from the equipment, exhausted, hyper and starving. All that work had really left her stomach close to growling at her for feed it. “I’m starving,” she admitted laughing when Dawson was by her side again.

Dawson needed his distractions. Sometimes getting out of the classroom and the comedy club was what he needed to rejuvenate himself and there was no better way of doing that than with something either musical or extreme. It was why many days he could be found busking for charity in the park or finding an excuse to do something that gave him a little bit more of an adrenaline rush. Some things he couldn’t do in New York, but that was what the holidays and Alaska was for. Other things he could do on short weekends outside of the city and he had friends who were more than happy to offer up their couches for a few nights here and there if Dawson did need that sort of an escape. He had it pretty good, for some nobody from Fairbanks who confused doctors if he didn’t remind them at the start that he was “built backwards”.
For as long as Dawson could remember, this had been what he lived for along with his passion for singing and playing guitar. He might have turned his mom’s hair grey before her time, but he hadn’t come home with pins in his body yet or anything else more serious than a fracture or broken finger. His most serious injury had come through no fault of his own, but rather the idiots who were renovating one of the houses a few blocks from where his family lived in Fairbanks. It did make him take his life a little more seriously once he came to, but Dawson didn’t see the point in dwelling on that and the only time it ever came up in conversation was if someone was asking about the tattoo collection that he couldn’t resist adding to from time to time, whenever he had the time and the cash to spare.
“Don’t worry; if you fall, it’s never that bad.”
He laughed, before shouting the correct instructions back across to her. He slowly climbed out of his own braces and harnesses and packed all of the gear away into the bags that were back up the beach where they had started. This was his own gear from his apartment, so once everything was in the bags along with KC’s equipment, he slung them over his shoulders and nudged KC playfully. “So, how did you like that?” He asked, knowing that it was probably the hardest thing tonight that he’d brought her to do. With abseiling and Parkour there were techniques and ways of teaching it bit by bit, but landboarding was entirely different and really was just about trial and error. It wasn’t every adrenaline junkie’s cup of tea, but Dawson found it quite therapeutic, especially when he was feeling stressed. “Let me just throw this into the car and then we can hit the diner.” He grinned, making his way back towards his car where he threw the bags into the trunk before slinging his arm across KC’s shoulders and dropping a soft kiss to the top of her blonde head before leading her towards the surfing themed diner just a little further along. “This place is amazing.” He said in a loud whisper as he held the door open for her and they found themselves a small booth to sit at, Dawson plucking two menus from the holder as they sat. KC had a one track mind when she had things that needed to be done; especially when it came to her school work and the home movies she made. She had a list made for every film she ever made and it always started out the same way. It was a tradition now and she couldn’t focus if she did something out of order. Almost everything else in her life was ordered chaos. Her room was a mess, but she knew exactly where everything was, her locker at work was just as bad. The only reason the rest of the house was clean and tidy was because she shared the place with Tabs and now Brooklyn and they couldn’t have things lying about with an almost three year old running around making her own messes.
KC’s life was work, films, sports and repeat with the added bits of eating and sleeping mixed in here and there. At least, that’s what it seemed like to her. She spent almost all of her free time either working on films, adding to her collection of works or scaling cliff sides. There were dates and shopping trips thrown in for good measure, too but they weren’t at the top of the film student’s list. These few moments with Dawson were the most she’d spent away from her computer and camera in almost a week and a half, having had too much muse and no time to get it all out.
Though landboarding was fun, the blonde girl wasn’t used to it and it made her a little nervous, in an excited way. She didn’t know what she was doing so at any second she could be flying through the air in some sort of somersault because she hit a rock or piece of driftwood or something. “Aside from wishing I knew what I was doing on that board, it was great,” she said, leaning up to press a quick kiss to Dawson’s lips. “Thanks for introducing me to it.” KC lagged behind Dawson, checking out the area since she hardly ever ventured down near the water. She was back at the car in time for Dawson to be tossing the equipment back in its place and throwing his arm over her shoulders. She pretended to buckle under the weight, laughing a second later as she wrapped her arm around his waist bringing her closer to his side. She stepped past Dawson, into the restaurant and looked around before following close behind him to the free booth. It was a really nice place and instantly reminded KC of Tabs and what she would think of the theme. It was so perfectly Tabs. “Nice,” KC said, letting her eyes wander a bit more around the space.
