So, his plan had worked to get KC to go on a date with him, but Dawson wasn’t about to end his extremes there. He wanted to surprise her even more and give her a night she would remember. The day before he had sent KC a text, revealing very few details about what he had planned, but giving her necessary instructions so that his scheme would go off without a hitch. “Hey dollface, I’m not telling you the grand plan for tomorrow evening, but don’t wear any tight clothes or things that’ll tear easily and definitely no heels. You probably look stunning in them, but trust me, you’ll regret it. X” He smirked after sending it, trying to imagine what she would be thinking when she got it. He was basically telling her to put in little effort to her wardrobe, but she would understand soon enough, he was sure of it.
He had to find something to wear too. Usually, he threw on whatever casual and baggy things he had lying around, but he didn’t want to turn up looking a mess when KC might still look stunning, even dressed down. In the end, he grabbed a trusty pair of jeans, fun blue t-shirt and made it look more like he’d put the effort in with a plaid shirt; another trusty item from the pit he called a wardrobe. It would all make so much more sense when the date was in full swing and, hopefully, KC was having a good time. Dawson had a few things planned for them, a lot of them back up ideas in case KC wasn’t appropriately dressed for one or another or if she didn’t fancy it when he put it in front of her. There was no way he was telling her what the date entailed; where was the fun in her knowing what he was going to give her the chance to do or see?
Dawson checked out his outfit and then sat down to tame the wild ginger curls that currently resembled a mane of sorts. Plugging in his straighteners he skilfully smoothed out the wild locks, fixing them in the fashion he was most accustomed to. There was a small chance they’d get wet later and those hidden curls would return, but for now and the start of the date, he would at least look presentable. Making sure he was good for time, Dawson gathered his phone and wallet before cramming his feet into his worn in etnies that didn’t look entirely destroyed before leaving his apartment, wincing when the door slammed and his neighbour hurled abuse through the wall, hammering his fist on it for emphasis. Dawson was used to the old man having a problem with everything now so he ignored it and moved down to where his car was parked.
Moving carefully through the rush hour traffic, he drummed his fingers on the slightly worn steering wheel, singing along with the radio and the classic rock song that came from the radio. He checked the scrap of paper where he had scribbled down KC’s address the other day and smiled when he knew he was on the right street to get there the quickest. New York was like a maze compared to Fairbanks and he still felt a sense of accomplishment whenever he knew he was moving in the right direction, though normally he avoided using his car, just because he preferred the fresh air. Tonight, though, he didn’t want to make KC trek the length of the city for some of the things he had planned, so the car would prove itself useful for once in the time that Dawson had owned it. He parked up outside of the building and quickly made his way inside, checking the buzzers for the right number before making his way to the door where he had been told three triplets lived, though he only wanted one of them tonight. He rapped loudly on the door, his knuckles not feeling any pain from the impact, thanks to his hardened pain tolerance; something that came only too naturally when you did extreme sports like Dawson did. Now, he just had to wait for her to open the door!

Dawson didn’t give her much to go by with the text message he’d sent, but it did get her thinking about the possibilities in her wardrobe, and her sister’s; nothing tight, no heels, nothing that tears easily. She was not leaving her house in sweat pants. She could be ridiculously lazy, but she refused to go outside wearing sweatpants unless she was going for a jog. After all, Dawson’s instructions weren’t a whole lot to go on and she had to work from the little he did provide. KC sat on her bed with Emerson leaning against the door frame smirking at her, while the only blonde of the trio stared at her closet in distress, and holding her towel in place.
She couldn’t say much about it all, though. She had agreed to the date, and she was actually really excited about it but she didn’t know what to go with. The funny part of it this dilemma was that KC loved surprises! Growing up, she was the kid who didn’t try hunting down her Christmas gifts, and now, she was wishing she knew more. Oh well. After he’d left her sitting, slightly dazed in her lecture hall, the class was still in uproar. The girls wanted to give advice and were slightly jealous that it had happened to her and not one of them, the guys wanted to hit Dawson for putting on a scene they’d never be able to top, no matter how hard they tried. And KC just sat there nodding her head, red as a tomato and didn’t hear a single word of the rest of the lecture as soon as the professor calmed everyone down.
Emerson shook her head, watching her sister carefully. KC felt her eyes on her and wanted to laugh, or throw a pillow. Finally, she sighed, stood up and dug through her drawers and closet, grabbing up clothes at random and hoping she’d make something work. She slipped on a slightly baggy shirt, jeans and snatched one of her favourite hoodies. She didn’t know what was planned, so she was keeping make-up and hair care to a minimal with her go-to liner, gloss and natural wavy curls. With one last run to the washroom to check her look in the mirror, KC went back to her room, grabbed her new and favourite of the week bag- a hello kitty backpack, and tossed everything she thought she might need into it, saving her cellular to slip in the front pocket of her comfy jeans.
Finished with all that, she grabbed her crazy, cute blue leopard print vans and walked down the hall to the kitchen in her socked feet. She wasn’t sure what she was getting into, and her darling sister’s were no help, sitting around the breakfast island, guessing what their eldest sister would be doing on her night out. KC tried to ignore them all while she put on the shoes she’d gotten for Christmas from her father. She absolutely adored them and wore them at every chance she got. She was running her fingers through her blow dried hair when a knock sounded at the door, and there were first stares between all three girls, then there was a mad dash to the door. Both Em and Tabs wanted to see who the guy was that got KC all flustered.
KC was sure their scuffling and whispered arguments would be easily heard through the wooden door, but a girl could hope, and she did. It took a couple elbow throws and a lot of laughter before KC’s younger sisters finally backed off enough for KC to open the door. “Hey,” she said, trying to suppress the laughter enough to speak. “Give me just a second to grab my bag,” she said, swinging the door open wider in invitation. If he was smart, he wouldn’t walk through the door as she raced through the kitchen door to grab her bag and back again. Her sisters didn’t seem like sharks, but they were; all three of them could be when it came to one another. She came back with an easy smile on her face. “Ready to go or do you need to blindfold me first?” She asked, with a wicked edge to that smile.

Dawson hoped this would be the kind of date KC would enjoy. He liked to think he was a good judge of character and from what she had told him when they had been ice skating and how she had reacted positively to his performance during her lecture, he had a gut feeling that he was on the right track with this, even if it would be on the odder side of how first dates could go. He was never the kind of guy who leaned towards the conventional ideals and he hoped to top the way in which he obtained her number by taking her on a date she wouldn’t forget. He just hoped she didn’t expect the conventions and the flowers and the candle lit dinner, because none of that was on the cards for tonight. That sort of thing made the flirtatious Dawson uncomfortable and he had much better ways to spend a night than tapping his feet nervously under a linen cloth that probably cost more than his own wardrobe.
He didn’t expect to be confronted when he got to KC’s door and the whisperings he could hear vaguely through the wood did set him on edge a little. The last thing he wanted was to be questioned or interrogated like he was a criminal. He knew it seemed to be an unspoken rule within families containing young women that they had to practically run background checks on any guy who came to the door, but that didn’t make it any less nerve wracking in his books, even though he often did it to the boys who called at their family home for his sister Viola. Maybe he was just a hypocrite like that but it was very different to be the brother than it was to be the actual date, which is why he was relieved when it was KC who opened the door and not one of the other two females who lingered not far behind her. “Hey, no worries. We’re in no real rush.”
He wanted to reconsider those words the second his brown eyes fell upon the two girls who he could only assume were KC’s sisters. The door may have been wide open, but he was perfectly comfortable in the hallway, flashing the two girls a brief smile before leaning against the doorframe whilst he waited. He was glad KC had listened to his text and upon first glance her outfit seemed perfect for tonight. He laughed at her suggestion. “Blindfolding you would just make this date dangerous, not fun.” He said, knowing it would fuel her curiosity more. He guided her to where he had parked his excuse for a car and opened the passenger door for her. Usually, he didn’t follow the chivalrous guidelines that had died with the arrival of the twenty first century, but he was being polite tonight with this being first impressions and all. Once situated in his own seat, he turned on the engine and then pulled out into the traffic before speaking to KC with a smirk on his face, but his eyes on the road. “Okay, a few rules of the evening. Number one, you tell me if you hate an idea. I have plenty of back up plans. Number two, I may get carried away so you may have to tell me when enough is enough. Number three, you must not walk down any steps we come across on our adventure. All sound good to you?” His smirk widened and he wondered how she would react when he took her to the first place of the evening, which wasn’t too far away now, just another block or two. KC was so bored with the typical. She wasn’t typical, she did the opposite of what you’d expect her to do; just because you’d expect it of her. The dates she’d been on before, bored her as well. Dinner at over priced restaurants where she had to dig through her closet for the three good outfits she owned, or search her sister’s closets for their good clothes, then sit through a dull dinner with candles, crap wine, even shittier conversation and three hundred count linen tablecloths. KC wasn’t that girl. She loved a good pub with great live music and a cold beer; something stronger if she was feeling it. All of that was probably why KC was so nervous about it all. If their last two encounters were anything to go by, he wouldn’t plan anything like that. It would be fantastic, crazy; adventurous.
KC's eyes sparked with the wicked glint that was in her smile. "Sometimes a little danger is fun," she said, shaking her head. She didn't care that they had an audience, she was happy he was there and excited and couldn't wait to see what was in store for her; especially after practically freaking out about it all since she opened that text message almost non-stop. She sighed, "Maybe next time. Can I get a little hint?" she asked her curiosity getting the better of her. "Don't wait up!" she called as she shut the door behind them, knowing they would just because the siblings were like that. KC loved surprises. Of the three, she was the one more likely to wait for present and surprises.
Seated in Dawson's car, she took a moment to scan her latest surroundings. She wasn't much on cars, though her sister's owned them. She much preferred her motorcycle and the open road to the confined space of a four door sedan. She wasn't a huge fan of long car rides, like road trips, but a small cross town trip was okay. It was usually over before she started to feel claustrophobic. When Dawson took up the seat next to her, KC immediately clipped her seatbelt into place. After Emerson’s accident, she didn’t take many chances when she was actually in a car; never mind the fact that she had a general dislike of them. With that in place, she figured she was safe enough and turned slightly to look at Dawson as he drove and explained the rules of the evening. She nodded, listening carefully. “I assume walking also means running? Or is running acceptable?” she asked quirking an eyebrow. At least she couldn’t say she wasn’t intrigued. She’d only made it from her apartment to his car, and already it was by far the best date she’d ever been on.

Tonight was probably going to be less of a date than anything else in the world. Maybe it was because he didn’t know KC all that well. After all, he had only met few a short time ago and even then, they had hardly talked about their lives and pushed beyond the banter acquaintances usually toyed with. She had rejected his offer of coffee after their first encounter and now this was kind of going to make up for that and boy, was Dawson glad she had changed her mind!
He chuckled and moved closer to her. “You want danger? Then I’m definitely your guy.”
He said, his voice laced with mystery and teasing. Her sisters may have been watching them and silently judging him right now, but it was KC he was taking out tonight, not the other two and she was the only one he was trying to impress. “Believe me, you’re going to end tonight on shaky legs and with a high than nothing chemical can bring.” He promised as they started to walk away from the apartment. If she reacted to his plans the same way that he usually did to these activities, then she would be hooked for life and he secretly had that at his intention. Dawson longed to find a girl who would share his love for the extreme and the adrenaline rush that came naturally in life. Maybe KC could be that girl once he opened his eyes to it. “A hint? Okay, doll, you’ll be walking on air.” He grinned at what he thought was rather clever, but was probably going to leave KC confused or panicked! The car journey wasn’t going to be a long one, thankfully. Dawson would much prefer the night to begin and in his mind, that wouldn’t happen until they were out of the car! “You can run towards them, but not down them. That is forbidden.” He said seriously, as though it would be life and death if her feet so much as touched one. Soon, he parked up the car in a lot near the harbour, though that wasn’t going to be their intended destination. His eyes quickly fell on a small set of five steps just away from them and conveniently on their path. Grinning, he waited for KC to climb from the car and then he led her towards them, pointing them out from a good distance. “Challenge number one.” He joked, his finger spot on the steps, complete with iron railing and flower bed on either side of the it and the building that climbed high into the sky next to it. Leaving her side, he ran towards it, his trained mind already selecting a rather show-off route to impress KC with. His feet left the ground as he jumped towards the flower bed, his toes barely touching the ledge before he used the building to wall run from and land neatly a good few feet from the bottom of the steps. Turning around with a huge grin on his face, he sought out KC and beamed like he was the king of the world. “Your turn!” [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED!KC! KC didn’t know what to expect with Dawson. Every time they’d been together, he’d gone out of his way to be crazy and absolutely wonderful. The young film student found that she was drawn to that craziness. She was so suck of dull and boring, she wanted some fun and Dawson was there, giving her fun and excitement. KC leaned closer and bit the side of her bottom lip as she looked up at Dawson. “Promise?” she asked. She was being completely flirtatious and she knew she’d hear all about it from her sisters’ who would wait around until she got home, even if it wasn’t until very, very late.
KC raised a brow with a wicked smirk. She had such a filthy mind. Oh, she was well aware that wasn’t meant the way her lovely brain had heard it but she couldn’t help herself. “Kinky,” she said, looking over at him. She was teasing, but it was so funny that she wanted to laugh, and almost did but barely caught herself. She knew from past experience that guys didn’t really like being laughed at, even if it wasn’t exactly at them, but something they said or did. She didn’t know if Dawson was like that, but she didn’t want to push those buttons. If he was trying to confuse the hell out of her, he was succeeding beautifully; she had no clue what that meant. Rock climbing? Zip line? Was there a zip line in the city? She loved surprises, so she would just chill out and wait until they got wherever they were going. “Well, not very helpful, but I’m game,” she said, shaking her head.
The young film student let her head fall back and looked up at the roof of the car, laughing and thanking her lucky stars that she’d tossed a hair tie into that bag of hers before dashing out of her room. KC pulled her backpack up into her lap and dug around in the little pocket on the front for that hair tie. “I knew I should have been a girl scout,” she said, closing her backpack and moving it so she could put her hair up. She tossed it up quickly in a messy bun and ran her hands over it in an attempt to smooth over the bumps that weren’t going anywhere without a brush, mirror and proper space. “Alright, so, basically no feet on the stairs, I can do that,” she said, clapping her hands together.
When Dawson parked the car, KC took in their surroundings. She knew the area but she didn’t know what they were doing around there. Oh well, she thought getting out of the car, she was going to find out. She raised a brow at his comment, putting her hands on her hips. What? But then he took off towards the steps and she couldn’t help but just stop and stare what the moves he pulled rushing the side, up and across the building and landing well on his feet at the bottom of the stairs. She was stunned, impressed. And she wanted to do that herself. But she didn’t know how to do that. However, one of those numerous classes she took in Phoenix, and kept up, had been gymnastics.
When her date called out, she was working out what she was going to do. There was that railing, she could use that, or she could forget it all about it and just go for it. Ice skating may not have been her exact thing, but gymnastics she could do, and do well. She had to be quick but from where she was the stairs wouldn’t be a problem, she’d jumped worse. “You’re on!” she called back, bracing herself. She took one deep breath before running right at the stairs. She couldn’t do anything as incredible as Dawson, but she could try. A few feet away, she threw her hands in the air and pulled off a decent round-off, landing just at the top step with enough speed to go straight into the front flip step out she favoured. She landed a few feet away from Dawson with a big grin on her face.
She dropped her hands and turned towards her attractive date. “How was that?” she asked, walking to stand next to him. She didn’t go to a proper gymnastics club anymore, but she did have a great professor that signed out one of the dance studios for her to use. She was a dancer as well, actually still taking those classes after the move cross country. But the gymnastics, everyone thought she gave up when she moved. With the studio booked out for an hour or two for “film rehearsals”, it gave KC the time to put in a little work on both. “What’s next?”

Life was so short and serious more often than not and Dawson didn’t agree with people living it with regrets and slow decisions. He thought that people should live loud and act on impulse more than logic and fear. KC could easily have rejected him after his public stunt complete with singing and music, but that didn’t stop him from trying in the first place. If he didn’t try then he’d never know and he’d regret that and it would haunt him like some malevolent poltergeist for years to come, he knew it would. Humiliation would come and go, but regrets were the things that came back during your final days, making you wish for a second chance and Dawson didn’t want that. He wanted to be able to look back and smile on everything he did, even the bad decisions, because he would know that taking the chance was worth it. He smiled at KC and then held his hand up, curling his fingers into a fist before sticking his pinky up in the air towards her. “Pinky promise, doll.”
He swore, winking playfully at her. He laughed at how she took his comment, slightly happy at the fact that her mind was in the gutter along with his. A lot of people thought it was a guy thing, but Dawson would argue that he could laugh more than most guys at innuendoes and twisted phrases. It was light hearted fun and always tickled his sense of humour, especially when a girl went along with it. He always found it odd when girls got offended and disgusted by it; it wasn’t like it wasn’t human nature or anything. “Oh, you haven’t seen nothing yet.” He winked again and shot her a sultry look, well, as sultry a look could be on a first date. He chuckled again, focusing on where they were going before opening his mouth again and smirking at her. “Well, you asked for a clue, not a helpful one.” After they got out of the car and Dawson had treated himself to a quick moment of parkour to show off and impress his date, he folded his arms to see what KC would try to do to clear the stairs in one swift movement. At first, he assumed she would slide down the railing or something similar, but he was very impressed with the flip she did do. He grinned, happy that she was so game for such a challenge and relaxing a little more, knowing that she probably would enjoy their date if she was pulling off stunts like that so soon into the evening. “I am very impressed, I have to admit.” He reached out to drape his arm around her shoulders and then glanced down at her with a smile. “Ah, patience will reveal all.” He led her towards a building that looked just like any other. Not as high as a skyscraper, but certainly tall enough to tower over the average store or house. He punched in the key code he knew off by heart already and then held the door open for KC to step through before guiding her to the elevator, flashing a smile at the receptionist who knew him well. The building was a mixture of things; there were offices on the first five floors, a crèche on the sixth, gym on the seventh and then the remaining seven floors were an assortment of sporting activities of the adrenaline kind. There were a few dedicated to parkour training, another reserved for skating, one where he would hang with friends and plan their next fix of adrenaline whilst drinking a variety of things from a juice bar that thrived on the sporting guys who hung out there in their free time and there was one for rock climbing and then the roof for abseiling. Dawson hit the button for the roof and then grinned at KC. “How are you with heights?” He questioned, leaning back against the wall. KC’s second tattoo said it all for her. “There’s no tomorrow”. It was basically saying no regrets, do what scares you the most. She didn’t have regrets; you couldn’t when you did what scared you, because after that you could say you were serenaded in the middle of a lecture, and said yes to the date because he impressed you by doing what he did, or you could say you jumped off that bridge, plunging near to a couple hundred meters towards a river and having your head dip below the surface, moving too fast for you to even scream. She could say those things happened to her, though thankfully, the serenade hadn’t grown to epidemic levels. School would have been nearly unbearable if there was someone interrupting every other one of her classes to ask a girl out.
KC grinned, hooking her pinky with Dawson’s. “I may hold you to that one day,” she said, wiggling her eyebrows. They’d barely left and KC was enjoying herself more than she’d ever had on any other date; ever. With her sisters, it wasn’t hard to have a filthy mind. They often joked they were worse than men. “I can’t wait,” she said in a soft voice. The young adventure seeking blonde, nodded, having no choice but to agree. “It's my own fault, then,” she agreed, good-naturedly. “And that was probably the best least helpful clue yet,” she added, laughing softly; keeping an eye on their surroundings as they passed through the city quickly enough.
The young film student was laughing happily. She hadn’t been able to put her gymnastic skills to work outside of a dance studio since she’d gotten to New York. It was a thrill as always, though she’d used basic skills and not some of the more, demanding flips. “Why, thank you, you weren’t too bad yourself,” KC smirked, looking up at Dawson with a light flush to her cheeks. “No patience, I have, Padawan,” she returned with a smirk. Okay, she was a total nerd. She absolutely loved Star Wars; the original, not the crap Lucas thought would be a good idea twenty two years after the fact.
KC watched with fascination as he led her to an average looking building. She looked around whilst Dawson punched in some sort of code, trying to figure out what secrets the building held. This was obviously their intended destination, or one of them, if he really did have dozens of back up plans. She stepped through the door and took in this new atmosphere while being led to an elevator. She looked over at her date with a raised brow, questioning, but not saying anything. She was enjoying the unknown and didn’t want the surprise to be ruined. KC didn’t need to think about that but she took the time to as she leaned against the wall beside Dawson. A slow smirk spread across her face as her brow quirked. “I’m alright with it,” she said slowly, not sure where this was going, but keeping an open mind to whatever came next.

Dawson knew that he wasn’t the conventional guy that girls fell for in the movies. He didn’t have the good looks, the popularity or the money like all the great guys had. He flirted more than he probably should do and he spent a great deal of time on his own hair. All he had was that he cared a lot about people and that he had a decent sense of humour. He was light hearted and rarely took life seriously, but why should he? You only got to live once and he’d rather grow old with laughter lines on his face than regrets and worries weighing down on his shoulders. He had already made enough memories to fill several photo albums, but that didn’t slow him down any and he hoped that tonight might be the night when he encouraged KC to do the same, though he was already fairly confident that she was going to be up for his kind of fun.
He grinned across at her and nodded slowly. “Do, ‘cause I’m not a guy to break a promise.”
He said, keeping his tone light and playful. This is what he liked about KC; he could just relax around her and joke like this without her thinking he was incapable of taking anything seriously. Letting out his breath in a ‘whoosh’ Dawson stuck out his chest, acting dramatically proud almost like a peacock with his vivid plumage on display. “That’s because I am the best least helpful clue giver that this city has ever seen.” He joked, grinning again before running his hand over his hair to make sure that it was still in the style he had put it in before leaving to meet KC that night. He was fairly certain that this wasn’t how a date normally went, but he liked keeping her in suspense, saving the surprises for the very last second when they would really come to life. He chuckled at her excitement, keeping her close to his side as he guided them to their first destination of the evening. “You little nerd, you. Next you’ll be talking in Klingon.” He teased. Dawson grinned when she said she was alright with heights and fell into a silent state, but the grin remained on his face as the elevator continued it’s ascent to the roof. With a small ‘ding’ the doors opened and he grabbed KC’s hand to pull her out and onto the concrete. The city from here was a breathtaking sight, but nothing in comparison to what it looked like from many of the skyscrapers. However, he hadn’t brought KC up here for the view. Glancing around, he saw the light haired blonde man wave him over and he squeezed KC’s hand before leading her towards the edge where his friend was standing. “KC, this is Byron. Byron, this is KC.” He got the introductions over with and then glanced at where Byron had already set up the harnesses and the safety gear for them both. “So, doll, how do you feel about leaving the elevator and stairs behind and taking the scenic route back down?” He jumped slightly on his toes and stooped to hold up one of the harnesses, raising his eyebrow as he waited for an answer to his question. KC was nervous and excited. She was completely clueless about this date but she didn’t think it would be a typical, average date. If everything else was anything to go by, Dawson was anything but typical and average. “I will, don’t you worry about that,” she said with a grin. She was nervous but it was a good nervous, like she couldn’t wait to see what he’d planned up in that adorable head of his. KC felt so at ease with Dawson, something she hadn’t felt since, well, ever really. The young blonde’s head fell forward with laughter. “I’ll make sure to pick you up a trophy next time I’m out,” she said a little breathlessly through small fits of giggles. At this point in a date, before they got to where they were going, KC would have been feeling self-conscious. She would have been flipping out in her head, worrying about her hair, her make-up, if it was all too much or too little for where they were going, but for once in her life, those thoughts didn’t pop into the girls’ usually overdramatic head. She was rather calm, despite knowing nothing of the nights’ plans.
KC’s cheeks burned with heat but she laughed and shook her head anyway, dismissing his comment. “No way! A girl has to draw the line somewhere. Star Wars, the original trilogy is my line. Besides, nothing beats Yoda, he’s awesome,” she said, sounding like a true nerd. Of course, movies were her thing, and she’d seen enough in her twenty-one years to memorize small lines and scenes in movies. Her line wasn’t one from an actual scene in any of the movies, but she’d seen them all enough times to have Yoda’s quirky speak patterns down to a science. Though she would happily admit to being nerd enough to owning four light sabers, and running around using them when she was stuck with her school work or bored; it was a great motivator in the imagination department.
KC could feel her heart racing faster the higher the elevator lifted. She had no clue was what awaiting her when the bell dinged, but she couldn’t wait to find out. Would this be an elaborate way to a restaurant? She didn’t think so, but it would certainly have been interesting. But no, she thought it would be something more... adventurous than just dinner. After all, who tells your feet aren’t allowed to touch stairs if you were just going to something as... typical as dinner. Nervously, KC fiddled with the hem of her sweater. There was no use even trying to fix her hair in the semi reflective surface of the elevator walls, there was no hope when she didn’t have a comb. And it didn’t matter anyway because the bell dinged and the doors opened only a few short seconds later; on the roof.
The view was absolutely amazing. KC was stunned by the wonderful City’s skyline. She’d seen it before, but every time she saw it from a different perspective it was just as breathtaking, just as stunning. “Whoa,” she said under her breathe, before moving with Dawson towards the edge of the building. KC smiled at the man Dawson was introducing her to with her usual smile, sweet, polite and just a touch flirty; just like her personality, minus the hit of the adrenaline and adventure coursing through her veins. “Nice to meet you, Byron,” she said, shaking his hand quickly. KC’s brows drew together in confusion as she took in the harnesses and safety equipment set up for them. Her brows rose as she spun quickly around to face Dawson, eyes bright with excitement as the realization of what he had planned clicked into place. “Abseiling in the City? Seriously?” she asked, excitedly, the biggest grin she could muster on her face. “I’ve been here three years and I never knew about this place!” She clapped her hands together as she laughed before settling her hands on the arm holding up one of the harnesses. “Let’s go!”

The date was very much a glimpse of Dawson’s lifestyle. He loved the adrenaline rushing through his veins, his heart racing beneath his sternum and the feeling of being more alive than ever. It was something that he loved to share with the people he met and cared about, but not many of them had been able to keep up with his busy life. Dawson simply hated being idle for long periods of time and he grew fidgety and frustrated when he couldn’t do something to work off his natural energy. He needed to work out, to play guitar, to run around his job like it was more chaotic than it ever needed to be and when he wasn’t doing that, he needed to live his life on the edge through the idea of extreme sports. He didn’t want to startle KC though tonight, so he tried to keep it to a selection of the things most people wanted to try at least once in their lives.
He laughed, fist pumping the air in mock victory. “Perfect! It can go with the rest of my collection!”
Dawson did have a few trophies, but most of them weren’t on display in his apartment. He did what he did because of his passion for the sports, but the competitive side of him did emerge when he was challenging himself to improve. There was a small number of them on the circuit who aimed to best the others in their category every year and it was a friendly rivalry that often resulted with the losers buying the winner copious amounts of drink and trying to prise the trophy from them, all for a good laugh. Dawson laughed enthusiastically and then reached out for KC, his fingers seeking out her sides as he put on his Jar-Jar Binks voice. “Mesa called Jar-Jar Binks. Mesa your humble servant.” He laughed and then straightened up again, his hands dropping to his sides. “Yoda will always be the greatest, but I do Jar-Jar better.” He said with a meaningless shrug that seemed to be a common move for the young red headed male. He wasn’t the biggest movie fan on the planet, but he did know Star Wars well enough to quote from all six movies. They were his go-to thing whenever he was stricken down with some sort of illness that made it near impossible for him to leave his cosy apartment. Grinning, he grabbed her hand and glanced across at the skyline he had seen a million times before, but it was impossible not be awed by it each and every time since. “Incredible, isn’t it, doll?” He asked, his voice quieter than normal, as though speaking in a loud voice might ruin the illusion of the mesmerising city that seemed so different from up here than it did from the sidewalks. His smile widened at her enthusiastic reaction and it was with another casual shrug that he answered her. “Not many people know about this place. Plus, not everyone would be allowed to do this. You’re luckily in the hands of an expert.” He winked at her and then began to adjust the harness with a knowledge he had kept to himself for some time. “There’s a lot of permission requests and all kinds to be filled in usually, but this date coincides with one of the charity abseils I agreed to do, so we get to skip the red tape already.” He explained, slipping the straps around her body in the right places, making sure they were tight enough to keep her safe on the way down. He also made sure that his hands didn’t wander anywhere they shouldn’t and once he was satisfied with KC’s gear, he began to step into his own, Byron double checking everything for the mathematician. Dawson picked up two helmets and held the smaller one out to KC. “Are you ready for this, doll?” Byron quickly ran through the tedious explanations that Dawson didn’t need, but KC might. He would have explained it all to her himself, but he was a little too blasé at times, forgetting not everyone did this as much as he did. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED!KC! The young film student smirked, shaking her head. “I hope that’s a generalized collection and not specific to the best least helpful hint giver. It might make a girl feel like you’ve done this all before,” she said with a playfully wicked smile. Naturally she was just teasing him. Who was she to get all jealous and defensive? She certainly wasn’t the first girl he’d ever gone out with and she hadn’t expected to be. This was the first date she’d gone on where she didn’t entirely know the person she was seeing however. Back in Phoenix, there wasn’t as if there was a giant selection in her area and more often than not, you ended up dating a guy you’d known since preschool; which was the case for KC. Thankfully, they knew too much about each other- aside from the extreme sports thing, and figured they were better off friends. It was exciting that she didn’t know everything, that they had so much in common and he didn’t even know it.
KC squealed when Dawson tickled her sides. She was ridiculously ticklish, not even able to have someone grab at her sides without her tickled side trying to run the other way, and falling into the culprit responsible for the action. When she could stand without toppling over with the giggles, she clapped her hands together. She wasn’t the greatest fan of the newer three movies, but she couldn’t deny a love for any of Lucas’ better characters; Jar-Jar being one of them. “I love it. Your Jar-Jar is so great. I can’t imitate him to save my life,” she admitted, still laughing.
The view from the roof of the building was so perfect. The city’s skyline so breathtaking, it was near impossible to not have your breathe catch. “It’s amazing,” she returned in a near whisper. KC shook her head. There was way too much legality than the young blonde ever cared for. She wasn’t the type of person to sit around and do the paper work before the adventure. These adventures though, her sisters still weren’t entirely aware of. Her sisters’, like most people, saw her as a bit of a flake, really. And she could be, absolutely. But there were plenty of aspects in her life that she didn’t get her sister’s help with. Like Tabs, there were parts of her life she didn’t talk about, and what she did in the deserts of Arizona happened to be one of those topics. She’d climbed and then abseiled down plenty of the ridges and mountainous terrain to know what she was doing would freak Emerson out. She was the bookworm of them all, even more so than miss smarty pants, KC. “Lucky me,” she said with a smirk, before correcting herself. “Lucky us.”
KC let Dawson help her with her bindings and gear. She could do it all herself, had the equipment and pictures to prove it, but she hadn’t said anything about being “pro”, too; after all, the deserts of Arizona were a hell of a lot different than the sides of buildings in New York. KC also accepted the helmet as she listened to Byron explaining everything to her. Clearly this wasn’t Dawson’s first rodeo but they both thought it was hers. She nodded when she was supposed and agreed when asked if she understood everything, adjusting the helmet on her head. “I’m so ready for this,” she said, grinning. These guys thought she was new at this, needed the rules and best ways to go about it. She didn’t need the lecture; she knew it all by heart.

He had to laugh at her ‘jealousy’. It was this light hearted humour of KC’s that had prompted Dawson to track her down and publically embarrass her until she gave in and accepted his date offer. There weren’t many girls in New York who Dawson had met who could make him chuckle as much as she could. It was nice, having someone else match his sense of humour once in a while. “Please, I have thousands of trophies all applauding my many fine qualities.”
He joked, pushing his chest out and adopting a terrible British accent that even had him cringing at the end of it. “And believe me, doll, you’re the first girl to get this night.” He said with a cheeky smirk even though it was the truth. There weren’t many girls who Dawson had met who could handle his extreme love for adrenaline hobbies. KC might not be as bold as he was, but he had a sneaky suspicion that she would love this idea of a date. His grin grew when he discovered just how ticklish KC seemed to be. “Aha, I have discovered your weakness!” He pretended to twirl a non-existing moustache fiendishly, even adding a mastermind cackle for dramatic effect. He waited for her to regain her composure before he dropped the act, returning to the conversation at hand. “My brother can do a stupid amount of the characters. His Yoda and his Chewbacca are just amazing. Girls practically fall at his feet because they think he’s a nerd.” He glanced at KC and raised his eyebrows. “Seems to be a romantic trend, so I better keep you away from him.” He flicked her nose playfully and cracked his knuckles. Dawson was glad that KC was mesmerised by the view, but this wasn’t a rooftop dinner. He smiled at her reaction to the sight of the city from way up here, but he quickly had to move them both on, knowing that they still have several other stops before the night was over and he had a few more people like Byron waiting for him with the necessary equipment and “supervision”. Dawson was qualified to do it all without their help or watchful eyes, but it was always better when he was bringing someone else along to have one of his friends play a commanding role to calm down nerves or just to simply guard the equipment and make sure everything was there and that no vagrant or meddlesome kid had stolen bits of it and sabotaged Dawson’s perfect date for KC. Byron had covered all of the essentials and Dawson was convinced that KC was more than ready for this; a belief that was only supported by her eager response! He grinned and led her towards the edge of the building carefully, letting go of her hand to grip his own chord. “Let’s see you fly, dollface.” He said with a cheeky little wink and grin before he jumped back off the edge of the building like he had done so many times before. His feet hit the building wall and he paused, just to make sure that KC was okay before they continued the rest of the way to the ground. They still had several storeys to go, but Dawson knew that this particular abseil was worth it; the skyline was reflected in the polished glass as they passed it on their descent. The young film student was excited about the night ahead of her. She hadn’t known a thing about the entire night, except that she wasn’t supposed to wear tight clothing. Already, though, she was enjoying the night. There weren’t a lot of guys who she showed her adrenaline junkie side to; hell, there weren’t a lot of people she showed that side to, not even her sisters knew the extent of it. And Dawson didn’t seem her mind the fact that her filter didn’t work or her sarcasm. It was the first time in longer than she could remember that she was completely her nerdy, adrenaline seeking self. KC laughed shaking her head a blush colouring her cheeks. She was the first one he’d taken out on a night like this? What did he have in store for them? It made her wonder, but then from the moment she got that text message, she’d been a wondering, excited, nervous mess. “Accents don’t seem to be one of them,” she said, not even going to try one herself; knowing it would be just as bad if she did attempt it.
KC’s face was so red from squealing the way she had. But he’d caught her off guard and she couldn’t even try and get away from his hands. “Tickling me is my kryptonite,” she said, looking down at their shoes but unable to hide the breathless laughter. KC opened her mouth to comment on his brother’s obvious geek chic technique but flicked her nose and had the petite blonde swatting at his already receding hand. “Hey!” she said, pouting and rubbing her nose before playfully hitting his arm. “I was going to say you have nothing to worry about, but now I think otherwise,” she said, wrinkling her nose at him. Teasing, it was one word KC would use time and again to describe what she and Dawson had together.
They could tease each other relentlessly and still laugh about it and have fun with everything. They didn’t have many serious moments in their young relationship, but the time they’d shared together had been full of laughter and teasing. Up on the roof of the building, KC was spellbound by the view, but she knew they weren’t there for the skyline, something else was afoot. And once she realized what it was, her nerves jumped excitedly. She’d never abseiled down the side of a building before so at least that was new territory. Her heart was racing as Byron finished his spiel, all the safety precautions, the basics, the essentials and gave the okay to start. KC’s smirk was wicked as she nodded, stepped up to the side of the building and watched as Dawson jumped backwards off the building.
KC took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a second and when she opened them back up again, she jumped. Her feet hit the building mere moments after Dawson’s and she could finally feel her heartbeat returning to normal. Abseiling she could do, jumping off cliffs, bridges, climbing mountains, she could do. She glanced quickly towards her ginger haired date before continuing down the side of the building, half her brain working the motions and actions of abseiling and the other in awe of the reflection of skyline still visible. She had to admit; no one had ever taken her on a date this incredible.

He had been an adrenaline junkie since his childhood. There were makeshift ramps set up in the street for him to jump and as soon as he could he was pulling off stupid stunts that his mom swore turned her hair white before her time. He might have had a few trips to hospital in the past, but there was nothing more severe than a hairline fracture and a few broken fingers or toes here and there. He knew what he was doing, took all the precautions and then let the activities bring him to life and give him a high that brought along no lasting damage to his body. There would come a day when he would have to tone down some of the lengths he went to, but until that day arrived, Dawson was intending to spend every moment he had to spare pulling off some crazy stunt or another, just because he could. “Well, if I was entirely perfect then the others guys wouldn’t stand a chance!”
He joked with the biggest grin he could muster. He wasn’t that full of himself, and a lot of the time lines like that were said more in jest than in sincerity. There was more to life than trying to charm women and act like the alpha male. Chuckling some more, he stuffed his hands into his pockets and nodded as though processing this little fact. “I shall have to remember that then, Supergirl.” He teased with a small wink in her direction. He wasn’t the biggest nerd around, but he did like superheroes and even the female counterparts that seemed to have surfaced during the late eighties and nineties, probably after some distress about feminist movements or something of the like. “Pssh! You’d have to get to Fairbanks to meet him!” He grabbed KC and spun her into his arms, trapping her tight against his chest as his arms locked around her waist. “And I’m not letting you get that far.” He whispered, grinning at his ‘trap’. He also omitted the part about his brother having been married for three years already after finally tying the knot with his college sweetheart. For some reason that fact still never managed to deter the female population from hitting on him in New York bars when he came to visit. His feet bounded down the edge of the building with professional skill; abseiling was probably second after Parkour for his most common sports. Some of the others required certain weather, time or needed Dawson to have some free time to drive out to a specific location. He grinned to himself as he watched KC on her descent next to him, her ability clearly not that of a beginner’s, though that didn’t bother Dawson; he was just glad that she was enjoying this kind of date. She really was the first person he had dated who he felt comfortable bringing out for something like this. With other girls the freaking out and refusal would’ve come quickly after his ‘no stairs’ rule. Quicker than he expected, his feet found solid ground beneath them and he adjusted himself to make the smooth stop, grinning over at KC as he straightened up and began to unclip and twist his harness. Byron would be out in a moment to gather everything and clean-up for him so that he could take KC onto date night stage two. “How was that, then?” He asked, the grin still firmly in place.
