Since the engagement, Leander could honestly say he'd never been so happy. Just going around telling everyone was pure joy in itself, but watching Jay smile at her ring was a whole new level of bliss. He'd been so nervous these past few weeks, not knowing what had been wrong with her or why she'd been so upset or even if she'd hate him for mentioning marriage. They both were young, after all, and they both weren't even out of college yet. The moment she'd said yes though, he swore his heart had stopped and his entire world finally fell back into its rightful place. Just the idea of having her forever, and of her agreeing to it, had sent him to Cloud Nine and he hadn't quite returned yet.
He'd been spending as much time as he could with his beautiful fiancée lately, especially since her trip had caused for a lot of loss time to be made up. Snuggling, kisses, and, his favorite, their movie nights had to be accounted for, something Jay didn't seem to be fighting. Leander had taken an early shift at work to make sure he was free, knowing that tonight would have to be their night together before end of the year studying rolled around. They'd both do what they usually did; sit around together, each with their own laptop, and just work but enjoy the company. But, prior to that, he wanted one more night of care-free fun with his lovely Blue-Jay, which was why he'd planned the evening out.
Leander got home from his shift at the cinema and took his customary shower to help rid some of the popcorn fumes from his body. He already had all the supplies ready and stocked on the counter; popcorn, ice cream to be made into milkshakes, a meal to be popped into the oven, and some candy from the theatre. He'd sent a text to Jay, knowing she'd be spending the night again. It was his turn to have her over, seeing as they'd been at her apartment the past couple days. He'd have to bring up the idea of them moving in together; it was high time they did, rather than waste the extra money on rent. He changed into some relaxed clothes, letting his hair dry as it may while he threw the vegan chicken nuggets into the oven. He buzzed around his tidy kitchen, making the popcorn and putting the candy into the freezer to cool, liking frozen chocolate better than half-melted. Jay would be here soon, or at least he was hoping, so he set the plates and bowls out for their various foods. This was the one night a week he truly pigged out, and he figured they might as well go all the way with it.
He poured the first bag of popcorn into a large bowl, already starting the second before checking on the chicken. Leander glanced once at the clock, rushing off to put on some cologne and deal with his hair before Jay got here and saw the mess he'd left himself in.

It seemed like the world was becoming a bit of a whirlwind; speeding so fast she felt dizzy. She barely spent any time working when she found herself at the studio. She was too busy having her ear chewed off by all the people running about the studio. Normally, she hated being in the spotlight like that, it was the whole reason she found her passion behind the camera, not in front of it. Everyone was asking how he asked her, what she was feeling, what she was wearing, though that one she didn’t honestly know why it mattered. And she had the same answers for them all; baked into her favourite cupcake, elated and don’t care. Still after the short time that passed, she couldn’t remember the finer details of the moment. She hoped with time those smaller details would be a little brighter in her memory but for right now, it was all sort of a blur of emotion. They had stayed for some time after that but eventually found themselves on their way back to her flat. She hadn’t taken advantage of her mother’s seeming addiction to laundry, and still had all that to do, onto of seeing what her place looked like. People, she wasn’t sure who exactly, had stopped by to water the plants she had scattered throughout the entire flat.
She had caught herself quite a few times just looking down at her hand; the ring catching her eye. Even though it had been on her finger for a few days now, it still caught her off guard and then the memory came flooding back to her. Her boss had given her the worst of the interrogations but Jay knew it was all with her in mind. She was like his little sister and he felt the need to watch out for her. She made sure to tell him she’d never been happier; even more so than when she’d gotten the job at the studio! And naturally, she happily passed on the fake warnings of breaking hearts and breaking heads. Her boss liked to forget Jack had her black belt when it was convenient for him. There had been too much to do when she’d gotten back from her trip, both at home and the studio and she’d taken advantage of her latest excitement to steal Leander away to her place to deal with it all. She hadn’t wanted to be away from him but the first couple nights it wasn’t possible for her to stay at his place; even knowing his place was spotless and she wouldn’t have to worry about putting anything away there, because it would already be away! Jay got Leander’s text message later than he’d sent it, after finally getting down to work on editing the prints she’d taken in Dublin. She shouldn’t have been doing them on studio hours, but since she could probably get away with murder in there and she enjoyed pushing her boss’s buttons. It gave her a reason to turn her twenty minute break into the entire night.
She packed away all her things, taking whatever she thought she’d need first thing in the morning. She didn’t have to be back into the studio at all the next day, so if she wanted she could work from wherever, if she decided to lift that large laptop screen at all. It took longer than ever before to get out of the studio and down to the parking lot to her car but she made it only having to stop a dozen or so times for more congratulations and to tell people no, she didn’t know when the engagement party would be taking place. She’d barely had the beautiful ring on her finger a week! To relax, she drove through the city with a CD blasting by a band that was getting their next album cover shot by her boss. They were good, and put her in a fun, dance kind of mood. She was still singing the song she’d put on repeat half way to Leander’s when she walked up to the door, shimmying and swaying as she unlocked the door and let herself in. “Honey, I’m home,” she said, happily, laughing, dropping her bags by the door and twirled around to the song still playing in her head. “Leander? Where are you?” she called out, taking her wedges off.

With the smile that hadn't left his face for days, it was easy for people to take a guess at what had happened. He may not have been wearing a ring to prove it, but everyone was excited for the writer who'd taken one step closer to his happy ending. The girls at work had pestered him for details about how he'd proposed, what the ring looked like, how she reacted, etc.; he'd been happy to re-live it all, however. He had most of it commited to memory, always being one for details, and the constant repeating of the story was helping keep it fresh in his mind, as well. Of course, there was already an entry in his journal describing the night in detail; all the way from their moment in the car up to when Jay had tackled him to the ground on her parents' patio. He'd re-read it quite a few times already, editting and adding things here and there as he remembered them. Years from now, if he and Jay ever renewed their vows, he'd probably read it to her as part of his vows. Maybe he'd even use it as part of the upcoming wedding. They hadn't picked a date yet, or even had time to really think about one. He wasn't pushing for the actual wedding though; he was happy as things were. She had a ring and, even if it wasn't technically a wedding band, it proved that the two of them were commited to each other.
Leander didn't mind spending nights over at Jay's, just like he didn't mind when they had the night at his place. They basically shared the two apartments, anyways, with how much time they spent at each other's home. She had clothes, shoes, and who knows what else here in the spare drawers in his room; he had spare clothes stashed somewhere in her mess of a place. However, he did prefer the evenings where she came over, mostly because he didn't have to fight off the urge to clean things every other second. Plus, he knew where things were at his place, and he had all the supplies he needed to cook for her. With how busy she'd been this week though, he'd gladly gone off and temporarily lived at her place. It was really the only way they got to see each other at all, especially with finals coming up for them both, too. Once summer came around, hopefully they'd be able to get back down to some sort of a routine; maybe even think more about their wedding day.
Leander ran his fingers through his hair and straightened up his shirt, checking himself over in his bathroom mirror quickly. He was a neat-freak down to the last button, something he would readily blame on his little sister and the years he'd spent keeping things clean for her health. He made sure everything was where it should be in the bathroom, tossing away the towel from his shower and promising himself to make a laundry run tomorrow. Just as he was coming out of the bathroom, he heard Jay's voice coming from the door, along with the sound of her bags dropping into their usual place near the door. "I've been waiting long enough," he called back teasingly. The smile found its way onto his face as he appeared, already picking up her purse and setting it onto the counter in the typical manner before going and wrapping his arms around her. He bent down and brushed his lips lovingly over hers, pulling back to say, "I've got dinner in the oven and the popcorn already going. And, they had some of your favorite candy leftover at work today, so I grabbed it for you." He kissed her forehead gently, one hand lacing through her left one. He pressed his lips to her ring before grinning down at her again and looking towards the shoes. "You want me to put those with the collection you started over here, or are you wearing them home tomorrow for once?"

Jay rolled her eyes. She would have gotten work done and been out of the studio sooner had she been able to actually do work. No one had noticed at first and she wasn’t the type to draw attention to herself, despite her love of colour, dancing around the studio and general acting foolishly. Her boss noticed immediately, naturally. The man didn’t skip a beat. There was no minor detail left unnoticed with that man. He’d called her into his office first thing and foolishly she had assumed it was to ask about her trip. She’d been wrong. And once she’d left the office, it was as if she was the only one who didn’t get a mass email. “Remember how you said you were basically attacked by all the girls at work, demanding to know how everything happened? Well, that was today for me. I swear they’ve never seen a gorgeous ring before,” she said, raising her hand to watch the light reflect of the beautiful heart shaped diamond. It really was an amazing ring and it suited her so well. It was unique and different and wonderful, just like Leander, just like her. Since she’ returned from Ireland, she hadn’t been back to work at the studio. There was just too much to do around her flat and then there was catching up on the school work she’d had missed. So she understood why they went crazy and lingered when she was working until they annoyed her enough to break her contact with the screen in front of her. Every girl and gay stopped by her desk to ask about how he proposed, what she was wearing and other things she honestly didn’t have answers for.
She was happy to take time away from what she was doing to talk about it all, at least, the parts she could remember. It had all seemed to happen so fast and so slow, she just couldn’t get all the finer details together yet. Laughing happily, Jay welcomed Leander into her arms, kissing him back. She simply adored the man. He was quite literally the love of her life and probably the only person on the planet capable of pulling her away from work. She could absolutely get used to that welcome home. Laughing, Jay did a little happy dance. “You spoil me,” she said, grinning. Jay’s eyes followed Leander’s down to the latest pair of shoes now inhabiting space in Leander’s closet. She shrugged, laughing. “I guess that depends on what of my clothes I’ll be stealing from here come morning. They might not match,” she said, teasing. She never quite knew what she was going to wear the next day. She had a thought in mind, not that it really mattered since she usually changed her mind when faced with her choices. She ran her free hand over her hair. The messy bun she’d put it in before heading out to work just wasn’t suitable for the day when they had a shoot happening so Madeline, the makeup artist practically tossed Jay into a chair and had Frank work his magic on her hair, twisting it and braiding it into the style it was now. There were ulterior motives there too, since she’d just stepped out of her boss’s office and went straight to the chair, where the first of the questions started with that group.
“I’m going to go freshen up and get out of this dress while you finish up dinner. I wouldn’t want to interrupt what you’ve already got going,” she said, teasing. She leaned up to kiss Leander once more before letting go of his hand and heading down the hall to Leander’s room and her mini collection of clothes. The things she kept at Leander’s wasn’t even close to being a quarter of her closet. But with all the samples she received from clients, from models, designers during a shoot, make no wonder she had no space for new things! It amused Jay how she had a collection of high end designer duds in her closet and she didn’t pay for most of it because they were gifts and samples. She hadn’t paid for an article of clothing in three years! It made sense that she had the amount of money that she did; the only things she usually bought were necessities, unless she was going out with friends. Looking over the things she had in the drawer she’d taken over, she grabbed a tee and a pair of shorts before going to the closet and grabbing one of Leander’s sweaters. She practically drowned in the warm garb but it smelt faintly of his cologne and it was comfortable. Smiling, she wrapped herself in the sweater and skipped back down the hall for the kitchen, coming up behind him and wrapping her arms around his waist. “What did you make us?” she asked, pressing a kiss to a spot on his shoulder blade she could reach. She was just a little too short to see over his shoulder, so instead she peeked her head past his arm to see what he’d made them for dinner.

Leander would admit, he did have it slightly easier than Jay when it came to details about the proposal and wedding. He was the groom; all he did was pick out the ring, then let his bride-to-be run wild as she saw fit. People drilled him for details, of course, especially any of his friends who happened to be female, but that was about it; no questions of what he was wearing, or how much the ring cost, or really anything other than how he'd done it and if they'd chosen a date yet. It was starting to die down now, at least in his social circle, but he had gone back to work Monday morning and the news had pretty much spread around by now. He was glad all the hype about it was over, though he wouldn't pass up the chance to celebrate with his fiancé. Besides, they had a good movie line-up going tonight that would help them forget all about the pressing questions of their friends.
He couldn't help a laugh as she spoke, though he did grab her hand and place a gentle kiss to the ring she seemed so enthralled with, despite the badgering from her co-workers. "Yeah, well, at least you've got proof. No one at work believed me until I showed off the picture of us from that night," he joked, smirking down at her. Leander was very happy she loved her ring, though she hadn't exactly found out who'd help pick it out. He and her mother had agreed to keep their it their little secret, giving him at least one more reason to love his future mother-in-law.
"Don't you usually just steal mine and leave yours here?" he teased back, pecking her lips before going to pull the popcorn from the microwave so it wouldn't burn. He added it to the bowl, throwing a couple pieces into his mouth. "You'll end up running home for a pair, anyways. I'll bet money on it," he said, smirking wickedly down at her. Leander checked on the chicken nuggets again, calling after her jokingly and with a spark in his eye, "I'd say have fun, but that room is no fun without both of us in there together."
He checked over the few things he needed to, pouring the icy candy into a smaller bowl and placing it on the counter next to the popcorn. Turning the oven off and pulling the hot tray out, he set it out to cool. Leander reached up to grab plates, grinning when he felt a pair of arms slide around his waist. "Chicken nuggets, popcorn, your candy, and there's ice cream and whipped cream for... later," he smirked, sliding the plates out of the cabinet and setting them on the counter. Gingerly, he plopped some of the nuggets onto the plates and set them next to the bowls. He turned around, hands resting on her hips as he bent down to press his lips lovingly to hers. "Your feast awaits, my love."

There were so many things to do for a wedding. She had honestly been clueless as to how much really went on in a wedding. They still had time to sort it all out. Hell, there wasn’t even a date picked out for the nuptials! And really, Jay wanted to bask in the moment. She was engaged! Something she never thought would happen with her hectic life. But she was and to a man who was quite simply, perfect. She really couldn’t have found a better man. He was sweet and thoughtful and calmed her down after a day of running about like some sort of chicken without its head. He really was the calm to her tropical storm. “Awe, poor baby,” she teased, laughing. “If it will help, I will gladly stop by to show it off,” she said as if this weren’t an excuse to just show off the stunner. Jay really loved it and felt like everyone else should, too. “Frankie says he wants one just like it,” she said laughing, referring to the ever present hair stylist employed at the studio. Everyone had loved it and just kept saying how she was a lucky girl; like she didn’t already know that.
“Those are comfortable clothes, not work clothes,” she said, shaking her head as though this were obvious. She rolled her eyes, watching as he pulled the popcorn from the microwave. “You would lose that money,” she said, crossing her arms and narrowing her eyes wickedly. “How much are we talking exactly?” she queried, too curious for her own good. If it was worth it, maybe she’d take him up on that bet. She had a few pairs of shoes there; surely there was something that would work with whatever she chose to wear the next day. “So very true,” she called back laughing as she danced down the hall to the music she couldn’t seem to get away from. It was a damn good song, catchy; too bad she didn’t have a clue what the name of it was! She actually liked her hair the way it was so opted out of letting it loose like she usually did after work. Maybe later she’d let Leander take it out, pin by pin. Still, she ran her hands over it carefully, patting down flyaway pieces and brushing her bangs from her eyes.
“I’ve always been a fan of dessert before dinner,” she said, grinning wickedly. “Is there caramel sauce buried somewhere?” she asked raising a perfectly plucked brow, her tone just as wicked as the spark in her dark eyes. “Maybe chocolate?” she suggested, running her fingers up his back before he turned around. “Sigh. I guess that means it really will wait until later,” she said pouting, pressing closer. She leaned up, meeting him halfway to kiss him again before detangling herself from him. “I’ll take the bowls and you get the plates,” she said, sneaking a couple of her favourite treats before picking up the bowls and grinning innocently at Leander before carrying the bowls over to the coffee table and arranging them around on the table. Satisfied with the arrangement, she sat down on the couch, making herself comfortable, crossing her legs so she could eat. She was an odd duck, as her mother always said jokingly. But the other woman couldn’t talk when she did the exact same thing; even at the dinner table! She really was her parent’s daughter.

Leander really hadn't realized how much went into a wedding after the ring was placed on a bride-to-be's finger. He was going to help with it, whenever he and Jay decided to pick a date, but he didn't want to ruin any dreams or ideas she might have. This was her big day, after all; people would be looking at her, not him. He wanted it all to be exactly how she wanted it, no matter how much it cost or how much of a pain it was to get. Leander planned on spoiling Jay for the rest of her life, and that included their wedding day.
"If you stop by, you'll be forced through all the questioning again because, apparently, my side of the story isn't enough," he chuckled warmly. He quirked an eyebrow, shaking his head. "As long as he doesn't steal yours," he teased, placing a gentle peck to her forehead. He'd spent days picking that ring out, scouring stores to find the one that "fit" her. Her mother had helped, of course, but even she'd been sick of staring at diamonds long before they'd both agreed on the current ring. If anything happened to the expensive band, he was surely going to have a heart-attack.
Leander settled all the food into bowls and onto plates, grabbing the ketchup from the fridge and rolling his eyes jokingly back at Jay. "However many singles you can fit on your body," he smirked back, shaking his head at her and going over to give her another heated kiss. He watched her walk off, chuckling softly to himself as he turned the oven off and made sure there were a couple more bags of popcorn handy in case they ran out.
Once she was back, he couldn't help returning the wicked smirk. They really hadn't had time to celebrate their engagement, but, with the way they kept going back and forth, it seemed like the time had finally come. "I think things'll be sticky enough without the caramel," he answered suggestively, kissing her temple and just shaking his head instead of answering. He may've behaved in front of her parents and in public, but, behind closed doors, he definitely wasn't the total gentleman everyone believed. Just the ideas flitting through his mind thanks to Jay's words had him practically drooling, though he was working hard not to give in too soon. They had to last the entire night, after all.
He grabbed the plates and followed her out into the living room, flopping next to her on the couch. He set her plate on her lap, reaching over to give her a lingering kiss before he pulled away and picked up the remote for the TV. "Is it your turn to raid Netflix again, or should we rent one?" he asked, stuffing a nugget into his mouth. Looking at the table, he suddenly realized what he'd forgotten in his cooking-haze. "What do you want to drink, doll? There's some soda my sister brought over, and I think she left me some juice, too, from the other morning when she came for breakfast." Leander set his plate on he coffee table, already climbing up off the couch again to fetch whatever drinks Jay wanted.

Jack honestly wasn’t thinking about wedding dates and well, anything bridal. She was still in the phase of being perfectly okay with just the ring on her finger. She’d never really thought about a wedding of her own, so she had no plans, thoughts or ideas on the matter. She was sure Leander’s sister would have some input and their mother’s would both be tossing around ideas and plans, but for now Jay didn’t know what she wanted or where to begin with plans. She was having lunch with Chloe the following week; maybe her sister-in-law to be would have some idea on the matter. She was certain of one thing though, she wanted her favourite flowers in her bouquet; the rest, she was clueless.
She sighed, as if answering all those questions all over again was a task she’d rather not due. “I suppose I could sit through the torture of questioning once more, for you,” she said sounding tired by it all already. “He’s already been properly threatened,” Jay said laughing. The petite brunette often wondered how much people thought her tales of the studio were exaggerated. Too many stupid, silly and completely idiotic things happened there yet they were all true! She didn’t think anyone would believe her unless they saw with their own eyes. Jay couldn’t blame Frankie, though, her ring was absolutely perfect. She didn’t know how long Leander had the ring, searched for it or thought about proposing to her but not knowing wasn’t relevant. He loved her so much, he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her and she couldn’t agree more with him.
“I don’t know the answer to that, so I guess we’ll have to find out,” she said smirking against Leander’s lips. She tried to be fast, changing out of her dress but every time her ring caught her eye she couldn’t help but stop and stare at it for a minute; like she had to see if it was real. It still seemed a bit surreal, that it all really happened. “Promise?” She whispered, teasing as his lips brushed her temple. She’d missed him, missed this bantering while she’d been away and since she’d been back there’d been too much going on to be together and celebrate. Finally, though they were alone, with no interruptions. Comfortable on the couch, Jay barely had her hand on the plate to balance it when Leander took her breath away. She wanted more of those kisses. But she sighed softly, trying to be content with eating her nuggets. She shook her head. “It’s yours actually,” she said, taking a bite of her dinner. “Soda is fine,” she said, finishing the nugget in her hand. She would have preferred a little something more, in celebration of their engagement but Jay knew Leander had a difficult time offering any form of alcohol because she was technically underage. It had never stopped her, she had ID that said she was older than Leander, but pointing that out wouldn’t help matters at all. So, even though she would have wanted champagne or the like, she would settle for the soda Chloe left behind.

Leander honestly couldn't understand the rush to pick a date. People seemed to already have one set even before a ring was presented, but, he couldn't see anything wrong with just sitting back and letting it all happen as it pleased. Being engaged was enough for him; the ring was tie enough. It promised a future and, really, that was all they needed right now. They didn't need to spend the thousands of dollars, or go shopping for honeymoon stuff; they could just kick back and enjoy being together. They were both young, afterall, and still in school. But, they were together, and, really, wasn't that the only thing that mattered?
He never held back with Jay when they were alone. At work, in front of their families or friends; that was a differenct story entirely. He'd never been one for the excessive PDA, and that included remarks, suggestions, or other such things. In the privacy of their own homes, however, was something totally different. Leander would tease, flirt, and do anything else that Jay wanted; he'd happily do it, actually. He could play dirty when he wanted to, though he did keep up his squeaky-clean gentleman act in front of everyone else on the planet. "Dinner and a show, huh?" he teased back, kissing her with the passion burning between him. It was hard to hide the love that was so obvious between them, especially when they were alone.
Leander couldn't help rolling his eyes jokingly at her, just hugging her closer for a moment and letting his lips touch her skin. When she'd been gone, he'd longed for these moments; it wasn't the same without his little whirlwind crashing through his world to liven it up. Now that he had her back, for good, he never planned on letting her go for that long again, no matter how many credits it cost him or what job. It'd be worth it if only he could keep her safe by his side.
He smirked lightly against her lips, being able to tell how much more she wanted. He wanted it, too, but they at least had to make it through half a movie before things got hot and heavy; they both needed to eat and fuel themselves for any later... activities. The sound of her voice had him stopping halfway to the kitchen, a frown tugging on his lips. "What do you really want to drink, Blue-Jay?" he called over his shoulder, knowing that soda wasn't what she was in the mood for. Just the way she said the word, it was obvious; but, now came the game of finding out what she wanted instead.

Jay didn’t have a thought about the wedding really, she answered the questions asked, and nodded but she had no clue what she wanted, what Leander wanted. Eventually, they would have to talk about it, but they were both in school, and she wasn’t technically of age yet. Unless the two decided to get married in Dublin, she wouldn’t be able to drink at her own wedding. Not that she was thinking about getting married soon. Having that beautiful ring on her finger was official enough for the time being. She only had eyes for Leander anyway, signing a piece of paper didn’t mean anything; though Jay was thinking once they were graduated would be a good time to really get down to business planning this wedding.
Like many people, Jay wasn’t the biggest fan of public displays of affection. She didn’t mind the occasional hug when meeting a friend but more often than not, it was a simple shoulder bump. But closed doors weren’t public and Jay loved how Leander switched from mild mannered to wild beast as soon as they were alone. It had been a wonderful surprise the first time they’d been alone. He was the same man as always but alone, Leander was a little more… hands on. Jay couldn’t claim the same skill. She was the same no matter who was around, and try and she might she couldn’t tone down the hyperactive, flirty behaviour; though in her line of work, it helped as much as she wished to deny it. And really, it worked for them; she was crazy to his calm. He kept her grounded when she was about ready to lose her mind. “It’s an interactive show,” Jay said, pulling away just long enough to say that between those wonderfully heated kisses.
But those were over before any fun could begin. There was a movie to watch and all night to get where it was obvious they both wanted to go. Jay smiled at Leander’s words. She should have known he would read more than what she’d said. “What I want you won’t give me, so soda is perfect, love,” she called out, biting into the next of her chicken nuggets, leaning over to quickly snatch up a couple of her favourite treats. They were supposed to be saved for the movie, but Jay just couldn’t help herself; they were her favourites for a reason. While waiting, the brunette photographer snatched up the remote to search through the list. If Leander didn’t hurry up, she was going to pick a movie at random and be done with it; it wasn’t like she was all that interested in it in the first place.

They were both still young, something Leander was very aware of. He'd never imagined being engaged at 22, let alone being married, and he still couldn't picture it. Settling down may've been on the cards, but, he couldn't see himself wearing a tux and tying the knot before he even graduated college. Jay was even younger though, not even 20 yet; he wouldn't force her into being a "grown-up" so soon in life. Truthfully, he didn't want to be one, either; getting married would just press the fact that he was growing up and getting "old," or so his sister liked to tease him. Leander was fine with kicking back and being a college kid for awhile longer, even if he was off the market thanks to Jay's pretty ring.
One of the main reasons behind him proposing was because he couldn't imagine losing Jay. With her, he could relax, let go, and just be himself; he didn't need to be the protective big brother, golden son, or the college kid attempting to pass his exams. With her, he was just Leander; he didn't have to play some role on a stage. He'd never had that before, and he was sort of afraid that, if he let her go, he'd never find it again with another girl. Not that he wanted to; Jay was perfect for him, and he loved her with all his heart.
Leander couldn't help a sigh as she answered. He knew she drank, though it didn't make him feel any better about giving her wine or alcohol under his roof. The same went for his sister or any of his other friends who were under-age; he just didn't want to get in trouble for something that could easily be prevented. Plus, if she ended up driving somewhere, it made him feel a little better that she'd be sober. "You say that every time you want something to drink," he huffed under his breath, pulling two cans of soda from the fridge and going back into the living room. He set the drinks down on the coffee table, grabbing his plate and going back to eating without another word.

Jay had never been the kind of girl who’d have a dozen flings through college. Her mind had always been on one thing since she’d been a wee lass; photography. The fact that she had stumbled upon Leander and there was such an instant connection was just Fates way of telling her she needed someone in her life. It became more apparent how perfect they were for each other when he could easily take her away from work and she willingly went. Everyone else, even her parents had to work at it for a good twenty minutes before she even surfaced from the print she was working on. It didn’t hurt that he was sweet and charming gentleman around everyone and when they were alone she got the playful teasing side of him all to herself. And even though she had Leander in her life and loved him more than she could put into words, she had never pictured herself engaged at nineteen. She was hardly ready to be married, neither of them were. But Jay knew Leander wouldn’t force her to do anything she wasn’t ready for and she honestly didn’t think either of them were ready for a walk down a long aisle.
They hadn’t been together long but Jack couldn’t picture a life without the charming journalist in her life. She loved him too much to be without him. He was the only person she knew that could calm her down so easy and so fully take her away from everything she was doing. Jay sighed, seeing in just the way Leander moved that he was annoyed with her. She hadn’t wanted to say anything and knew better than to mention it. She felt like having the whole Irish-American drinking age argument was useless since she was on American soil and not Irish. She was of legal age in her own country, just not in his and that was the problem. Since her parents had allowed her to drink in their home for some time, she didn’t see the problem in it as long as whoever it was had the okay. Jay hadn’t hung out with an unsavoury crowd in her earlier teens, but she did hang out with a lot of older people from the studio; all of which were well over the legal age. She was the only one still in the studio that wasn’t; though that hardly stopped any of them.
Carefully, she set her plate on the table, moving to her hands and knees, taking Leander’s plate from him and setting it next to hers before crawling into his lap. “I just wanted to celebrate. It’s not like I’m going anywhere,” she said, pouting though she wrapped her arms around his shoulders. She would quickly drop the alcohol argument, she didn’t need it to celebrate, it was more of the act and traditions champagne held. “I didn’t want it because I wanted it, more like the meaning behind it, really,” she said, dropping her head to his shoulder and letting her arm fall slightly. She loved him too much to let a silly argument about alcohol ruin their evening.

Leander was old enough to drink and had been for nearly two years now. That didn't mean he took advantage of it every chance he got, and it didn't mean he drank himself sick once a week. He had a beer every once in awhile, and had his nights where he'd go out with the guys from school or his other friends. But, rarely did he keep alcohol in the apartment. He didn't like how it messed with his head or the cost of the temporary highness it brought; none of it was really worth it, especially not on a daily basis. His mind was the center for his career, and gallons of beer and wine damaged the carefully-kept gallery of words, techniques, and ideas he cherished. Leander knew alcohol wasn't required for a fun time; he'd survived 21 years without it, he would continue to live on if he passed up one night of drinking.
He couldn't help a small sigh as Jay took his plate, but he wrapped his arms around her nonetheless. "You have to work tomorrow, don't you? And we've both got finals to study for at some point," he said, not giving into her pouting face. Leander could hold his ground when he wanted to, and this was one topic where he would't let Jay have her way with him. "We can have fun without it, Jay; we've done it before," he said stubbornly, pressing his lips to the top of her head. Gently moving her off of himself, he added, "Go eat your chicken nuggets." Leander picked the TV remote back up, scrolling through the movie selections and clicking the first thing that came up.
Taking his plate back off the table, he ate the dinner he'd prepared specially for Jay, having bought the vegan nuggets specifically for her. A lot of the food at his place had been slowly converted to things she could eat, though he did still sneak off for a steak at his parents' occasionally. He'd still taken time to pick out things he knew she'd eat, and he'd bought all her favorite snacks to go along with it. The one thing she truthfully wanted, though, he wouldn't give her and it killed him not to do it. He wanted her to be happy and to have everything her heart desired, but he couldn't sacrifice his morals in the process of it all.

Jay was too afraid of becoming like that woman to ever drink excessively, constantly. There were a few nights, she would admit, when she and Coop or she and Will went out that she’d drank so much she couldn’t remember the night before once waking. But those nights were few and far between. However, she still had the mentality that she was young and still had time to make mistakes, get out of trouble and grow up. She was already further along in the growing up part than half her friends! She had a steady, well-paying job in her chosen field, a flat of her very own and she was still taking classes as NYU, despite not needing to. That was a lot on the plate of a teenager; which technically she still was, though her birthday was fast approaching. If there was a night she just wanted to let go of everything and not remember it in the morning, she was going to do it; a night or two from the month wouldn’t really make a difference. And she almost never went drinking the night before she had a shoot. There had only been once and she’d been on location with an entire crew and Coop upstate New York. But even her boss had been throwing back the drinks; still she hadn’t drunk nearly enough to forget.
Honestly, she was feeling a little indifferent about it all. Whether she had a glass of champagne to celebrate or not, she didn’t really give a damn; just thought it would be a good idea. Naturally, because she knew Leander, she knew he was right. Finals weren’t exactly as important to her as they were to Leander. She didn’t need to worry about them like some of her friends, since she really only had to hand over her year-end projects and her school portfolio; which was basically a copy of her work one with written permission slips allowing her to take pictures, signed by both model and client if it was during a work shoot. She had no essays, not research or papers due, just the basic field work of photographers. Still, she wouldn’t admit to being nearly done her projects, though anyone who knew her knew all her projects were finished a week early. Jay shrugged, ”There’s a shoot tomorrow. A night one so I don’t have to be there until like four to boss people around the set up. Downside is I won’t be around until well after midnight.” Her boss wouldn’t be in until five if she had that right, though when she woke in the morning, she’d double check her arrival time and his. She had to be there to let the crew into the house they were borrowing for the night.
Jack pouted, but because she was feeling like Leander was thinking she wanted it or something. Alcohol was a touchy topic, for both of them. She drank underage; Leander hated that and refused to let her in front of him. She loved his morals and everything about him. She just thought, because they hadn’t gotten the change to celebrate something so wonderful, he’d change his mind just once for a small flute; but he wouldn’t do that, and she didn’t care if they had the champagne or not. Really Jay just wanted to be curled up with Leander and now she was feeling as though she’d ruined that for the night. ”I know that,” she said scrunching up her nose in a smile at the kiss to the top of her head. She moved off Leander’s lap and accepted the plate. ”I feel like I’ve just been punished and I didn’t even really want it,” she muttered into a nugget bite, settling in to watch the movie Leander chose.

Leander would never be the type to yell at someone. He wasn't capable of showing that much emotion, especially not that much anger. He'd bottle it up, bite his tongue, and vent every last one of his feelings onto paper at a later time. But, he'd never engaged in a screaming match with someone; it seemed so pointless to him. What did one accomplish by yelling until they were hoarse? Nothing, that was what. If anything, it made the situation even worse and brought up more things to argue about.
Jay may not've been concerned with finals, but Leander most definitely was. Not everyone had their dream-job lined up for right after graduation, and that meant they had to work twice as hard to get to that dream eventually. He was happy for her, of course, but he did need to study and focus when things like this came around; it was important to him that he do well. There was a lot of money invested in his schooling, so he was going to take as much from it as he could; that included passing his classes with flying colors. Plus, the better he did on exams like these, the more he got noticed and the more newspapers payed attention; they were always hounding campus for good writers or editors, and Leander wanted his papers to show he was the right fit for them.
"Still; four o'clock'll be here quicker than you'll think, and I'm sure you don't want a headache in the morning. Besides, I've got papers to do and I might be covering a shift at work. It's not worth it tonight, Blue-Jay," he said, doubling meaning edging his last words. Fighting wasn't worth it any time, but he hoped this would blow over without a big erruption. They rarely got nights like these where they were both awake enough to actually talk with each other and enjoy the company; he didn't want it ruined within the first hour.
Leander sat back and ate his nuggets, one arm around Jay to keep her close to his side. He didn't like playing bad-guy, especially not with her, but, he really didn't want anything to happen. What if she had one too many and it messed with her head while she drove tomorrow? What would happen then? And, he did have school essays to do; he couldn't write when his head was cloudy from drinking the night before. "You're the one who brought it up," he answered flatly, shoving a handful of popcorn into his mouth and staring straight ahead at the screen. He was starting to wish he'd just handed her the bottle; maybe then she'd stop breaking his heart with the looks and pleas.
