Zoe was both excited and nervous about this evening. She was going over to the Jervis' to help Ellie prepare for the girl's first "real" date and, while she loved the fact that she was being included in such a big moment, she was dreading the fact that Romeo was no doubt going to be a tiger pacing restlessly all night until his sister was returned home. However, she'd promised Ellie to keep the big-brother locked up, and she wasn't about to let the teenager down now. Plus, she had a few unused tricks up her sleeve, ones she was hoping would keep Romeo entertained enough so his mind would be anywhere but on his little sister.
He'd promised her a night together; just them, some take-out, and maybe a movie or two. No cell phones, no freaking out over drama; just them. She was looking forward to it, but she was well aware that his mind would probably be on his sister, and she wasn't hurt by it. Truthfully, her mind would probably be there, too, though she would have to work to keep him from sneaking off to spy on this date. Ellie had come up with all sorts of situations that could happen thanks to her brother, and, while she did her best not to laugh at the ridiculous ideas, she'd sworn to keep him under lock and key so Ellie could enjoy her date; she didn't want the girl's night ruined all because her brother didn't trust the guy.
She showed up at the apartment a bit early so there'd be plenty of time, pecking her boyfriend's lips before whisking Ellie off to be primped and petted. In her head, Zoe was reliving her first date nerves, especially the ones that had been brought up by Romeo how many months ago. And, as she curled the tall teenager's hair and helped as much as she could with makeup, she was remembering her and Ember doing the exact same thing. It was fun though, and Zoe could honestly say she enjoyed laughing and being girly with this adopted little sister. She didn't get to do things like this often and, being away at college, she missed all of this with her own sisters. It made her feel less homesick as she joked and giggled and gossiped; she felt normal, like the old Zoe. And she loved it.
An hour later, she helped Ellie with some finishing touches, fussing with her hair once more before having her spin about for inspection. She sat on the bed, smiling happily before noticing the lack of something... a necklace. Zoe got up, unclasping the simple gold chain from her neck and reaching up to fasten it around the younger girl's. "I expect that back when ya get home; it's my good luck charm," she smiled, hugging her and going to the bedroom door. Looking over her shoulder, she couldn't help a smirk. "Ready fer yer brother to have a cow?" Zoe flung the door wide, stepping through and going over to Romeo, waiting for his reaction to the beauty that was his baby sister. "Well? How does she look?"

For Romeo, this was one of the worst days ever. Ellie had come home all excited a few days earlier after acting somewhat secretive for about a week. The nerves had been obvious in her expression and the stammering of her words as she told her big brother all about her date to the movies with some kid she had liked for over a year now. Needless to say, happy was not the first emotion the overprotective big brother felt. To him, Ellie would always be the little girl he took out to the shop for a chocolate bar or who he pushed on the playground swings. She was too young to date! Even when she pointed out that his first date had been at the age of fifteen, Romeo was still insisting that she should be focusing on school and not on the boys that would break her fragile little heart.
He was happy that she wasn’t dwelling on the recent drama with their father who had wound up back in jail after Romeo pressed charges for the state the man had left his son in. Luckily, most of him was better now. His ribs wouldn’t let him do any seriously heavy lifting and the cut the side of his eye that had had the stitches removed two weeks earlier still seemed to be visible, though the nurse did reckon that it was going to live him with a noticeable battle scar, which Romeo wasn’t concerned about in the slightest. He just wished that Ellie’s happiness was from something more stable than a sixteen year old boy. The poor girl had been through enough without needing to add teenage heartbreak to the list.
Ellie had enlisted Zoe’s help almost immediately, despite Romeo’s protests about how they should have the kid over first and get to know him better. He had hoped his country girlfriend would’ve backed him up on that point, but she seemed just as excited as Ellie by this big night, leaving Romeo outnumbered and sulking on the fire escape with another cigarette.
He needed to quick busy whilst his girlfriend dolled up his little sister into something she probably wasn’t. Ellie loved her skirts and cute dresses, but apparently none of them were good enough for tonight which was why she had turned to the older blonde woman for advice. At least he could breathe a sigh of relief knowing Zoe didn’t choose skimpy outfits, though the tiny shorts she arrived in did provide the Scouser with a moment of doubt. The girls were in Ellie’s room and Romeo knew that if he didn’t keep his hands occupied, he’d be on the fire escape smoking his way through the pack of cigarettes he had bought that morning, so he opted to tackle the laundry a little earlier in the week, even peeling the shirt off his back to throw in with the rest of the clothes too. Shirtless, he moved about the kitchen, making himself a cup of coffee and choosing not to bother the girls until they were done; he didn’t want his head chewed off.
He heard the door and the giggles before he saw them, stepping out around the alcove to look over his younger sister, who suddenly looked remarkably like their mother when Romeo was just a kid himself. He smirked his usual lopsided smirk and crossed the room to kiss the top of Ellie’s head lovingly, careful not to mess up the hairstyle Zoe had worked the dark locks into. “Absolutely gorgeous.”
He said truthfully before stepping back and slipping right back into protective brother mode. “But I still think we should ‘ave ‘im ‘ere for some scran first. I don’t like the idea o’ y’ runnin’ about the city with some kid I ain’t even ‘eard of until the other night.” He said, crossing the room to grab a clean shirt from the hamper of ironing. He knew Ellie hated him wandering about shirtless when she had company due. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED! His Juliet <3 WORDS! 709 OUTFIT! Sexy Mofo! LYRICS! Romeo may not've realized it, but, Ellie's situation was very similar to one the country mouse had been through when he'd asked her out on their first date. Though, the teenager was doing a bit better when it came to telling the family; Zoe hadn't mentioned Romeo to anyone, except Ember, until much after the official date. While he paced and sulked like a bronze-haired lion, she had to work to keep the smirk off her face, knowing that Ellie was no doubt worried he'd attack whatever boy had dared to ask for her company. When it came to choosing "sides" between the two siblings, Zoe went with Ellie for a reason: she could pull information without seemingly prying into the girl's privacy. Even as she worked to primp and beautify the teenager, she slipped in the occasional questions that gave more insight on who this boy was. She'd heard about him before during their little chats, and she'd known how head over heels Ellie was for him. She'd also cautioned, warned, and encouraged in equal portions, perfectly aware that Ellie had been raised to take care of herself. Romeo may not have trusted her to do the right thing, but Zoe did; she knew nothing was going to happen.
The shorts were only the first step of her plans for the evening. It had been set out carefully; all of it. From the time Ellie left until just before she was due to return, Zoe had things in place to keep Romeo and herself quite busy and occupied. There was some cookie dough she'd stuck in the freezer last time she was there, and a baking sheet already set so she could pop his favorite ones into the oven as the teenager was whisked away. She had their usual take out menus in her bag, and a movie or two rented from the store. Along with the "innocent" supplies, she'd stuck a lipgloss and some mints into the back pocket, far out of sight, for the second half of her little plan. But, until Ellie was well out of the way, she couldn't spare a second to think about that; it'd distract her far too easily.
Zoe stepped back and let Romeo fuss over his sister, moving to the kitchen and pulling out the cookie-dough scooper she'd given Ellie as a gift awhile back. She knew her way around their kitchen well now after spending so many hours in there, and it didn't take her long to get to work. Plus, the cookie dough gave her something to look at instead of her shirtless boyfriend; the heated stares were definitely a torture she was going to spare Ellie. "Dun listen ta him, Ellie. He's just jealous that some other guy's tryin' to git inta yer life," she called over her shoulder, winking at the teenager and going back to her work. Zoe continued to scoop, sighing softly as the partially frozen dough didn't give under the metal device. She pressed harder, huffing as a piece flew across the kitchen and landed on the floor. Grabbing a rag, she went and bent over, picking up the dough and giving her boyfriend a perfect view of the shorts she was so fond of tonight.

It wasn’t his sister who Romeo didn’t trust; it was the boys of New York. He had been sixteen himself once and remembered only too well how dates were expected to go in the mind of a teenage boy. It wasn’t something he wanted to think about when his sister was involved and if any boy dared to break her heart then he’d definitely give them something to think about, along with a short trip to the hospital to realign their nose. Ellie had been through more than enough in her life and he wasn’t going to let some boy with braces and an ego too big for his boots make it any worse for her. Ellie was still only a young girl and she should be enjoying herself, not crying alone because of heartbreak or dealing with pressures only a grown up should have. Romeo at her age was protecting her from their father and playing a role that was more than just that of the big brother. He just didn’t want Ellie to live with any regrets or tears over something that she didn’t have to do.
Shooting Zoe a look, the dark brotherly look still lingered in his eyes. “An’ that be’er be the only thing ‘e’s bloody tryin’ t’ get into.”
He said darkly. If he so much as thought for a second that this boy wanted more than an innocent date with Ellie, he’d knock him into next week and back again. Some of the kids in her school thought that Ellie had it perfect because she lived with her brother and not her parents, but in reality it only made Romeo more protective of his sister. Luckily, she was a well behaved girl and her closeness with Romeo only helped that more, but he didn’t want her going off the rails now that there was a boy in the picture. His eyebrow rose as he caught Zoe bending over in the shorts that were probably the same size as the rag in her hand. There was a second before he caught himself again, but then he focused his attention back on his sister. Romeo was trying to tell her about keeping in control of hormones and behaving and his own were trying to get the best of him! “Listen, if e’s a bag’ead, just give us a bell an’ I’ll come an’ get y’. This kid may be takin’ y’ on a date, but that don’t mean y’ ‘ave t’ stick around or do what ‘e wants t’ do.” He told the teenager, ignoring the looks she gave him right before the buzzer went. There was almost a fight getting to it, but Romeo beat the younger girl, buzzing her date up and getting ready for the interrogation. He waited by the door, blocking Ellie from escaping and dragging her date with her. Once the short knock came, he opened it, giving the kid a steely glare before greeting him coolly. “Y’ must be Mike. She be’er come back in one piece by ten or we’re goin’ t’ ‘ave a problem.” He said, getting to the point right away before the teenager could even say one word to the twenty four year old. Ellie sighed and then Romeo let her pass, only grumbling as she kissed his cheek and promised to be home on time. Once they were in the elevator and the doors were closed, he finally stepped back into his apartment, the slightly angry look still on his face. She wondered if Ellie would ever be able to have a boy over without Romeo practically beating the kid to death. Gosh knows Zoe was there often enough, and the teenager didn't seem to mind her, but, Romeo apparently wasn't going to allow his sister the same rights with her dates. She knew Ellie was his little sister; she was also a good looking high schooler who deserved to have a normal high school life. And, as much as he didn't like it, that included getting her heart broken at least once by some boy who'd always been looked back on as a bittersweet mistake. It was all just a part of growing up.
Zoe couldn't help rolling her eyes at the glare Romeo shot her, shaking her head at him and laughing quietly at the siblings' exchange. Her lips quirked into a tiny smirk, and the sparkling eyes looked over Ellie again. "Let her have her fun, Romeo. She deserves it after havin' ta put up with you all week," she said with a playful glare, smiling innocently at Romeo and going back to her cookie dough.
Despite the fact that she shorts were probably one of the tiniest pieces of clothing she owned, Zoe did enjoy them. They kept her cool and, as she was only going to be around her boyfriend, she didn't see much point in wearing the longer shorts that stuck to her legs after sitting on a chair for too long. Besides that, she knew she looked good in them; she had the legs to show off when she chose to.
Zoe shook her head as Ellie and Romeo raced towards the door, going over to see the boy for herself. She'd never actually met him; only heard from Ellie about him, and that picture was a bit biased thanks to her crushing heart. She would admit, the girl had taste; she just hoped he behaved himself. Smiling kindly at the kid, she lovingly shoved her way in front of Romeo, giving Ellie a goodbye nod. "I'll keep him locked up; you two have fun tonight," she said kindly, closing the door behind them and sighing at the look on her boyfriend's face. "If ya don't perk up, I'm savin' those cookies for Mike 'n Ellie and sendin' him home with some," she scolded lightly, reaching up to peck his lips. Keeping close to him, she added, "You were the one who said ya taught her ta punch; she'll be fine." Brushing her lips over his again, she went back into the kitchen, sliding her sheet of cookies into the oven and setting the timer so they wouldn't burn.

Romeo could cope with Ellie having a boy over at the apartment…so long as Romeo was home, the bedroom door stayed wide open and he could hear everything going on. He didn’t want any suspicious moments of silence and if they were watching a movie in the living room then he’d only be in the kitchen or his bedroom, doors wide open again. She was only sixteen and shouldn't be devoting her teenage years to some boy, feeling pressured to do what everyone else was doing. He had been entrusted to keep Ellie safe and happy and even though his sister still had a lot of firsts to go through, he intended on keeping the promise he had made to his mam and the judge who had agreed to this little arrangement after hearing the stories from all the members of the Jervis family, save the father, whose criminal record spoke loud enough for them all to hear.
Romeo threw Zoe another look. There was no real malice behind it or anger aimed at her for helping Ellie, but the look remained all the same. It seemed Romeo’s overprotective personality traits were shining through strong tonight at the thought of some strange boy coming to take his baby sister out to the cinema on an official first date. “Are y’ tryin’ t’ tell us that your family wouldn’t be doin’ the same if it was you in our El’s place?”
He asked, trying to tease, but probably failing given how tense he was right now. He had to wonder where those shorts had come from. Zoe had once been so innocent that he suspected she never even looked at clothing like that, but he enjoyed watching her change over the course of their relationship. He still wasn’t going to rush her into anything, but they had taken more leaps and bounds from when they had started out. That was another thing he loved about her; she wasn’t another city girl who had done it all before and who would more than happily crawl into bed with a guy on the first date. He wasn’t judging them or saying that there was anything wrong with that, but he did enjoy the slow pace of his relationship with Zoe, spending more time enjoying her company than her body. The bronze haired defender scowled down at the top of Zoe’s head as she pushed her way in front of him. “But not too much fun! I’ve got me eye on y’, kid.” He called down the hall in a final warning to the hormonal sixteen year old boy who might thing a protective brother was just another challenge or game on this date. Hopefully, Ellie would tell a tale or two to show that Romeo could walk the walk as well as talk the talk. He just grumbled after the door was closed and then stalked back into the living room while Zoe dealt with the cookies. “I taught ‘er ‘ow, but I’m not too sure she knows when.” He mumbled, sitting back down on the couch. From this moment until the second Ellie walked back through the door he would be in this funk, refusing to do anything until his sister was back home in one piece with her heart and dignity still in tact. Zoe had had her first date drama when she was a teenager, and she'd gone through the whole ordeal of her father threatening the boy, her mother smiling sweetly, and her looking like one of those dolls out of a movie. But, in her case, the boy had been a neighbor who her parents and she had known since he was born, and the date was to the supervised school dance where nothing more than an innocent first kiss had resulted. It'd still been horrifying to see her father jokingly threatening the boy, and how her mama had taken pictures to show the boy's mom later. In a way, Ellie was getting off lightly; all she had was Romeo, who would be kept under lock and key by Zoe.
She met his look with one of her own, shaking her head at him. Zoe didn't blame him for being overprotective, but she also felt bad that Ellie would no doubt have a difficult love-life thanks to him. High school was bad enough without people getting their noses into places they didn't need to be, especially when those "people" were related to you and willing to hurt anyone who so much as breathed on you. "'Course not. There would'a been shotguns involved already. They threatened ta come up with one when they found out 'bout you," she smirked back, hoping the joking would help relax Ellie a little. Someone had to be calm and encouraging here and, seeing as Romeo was a bit busy with his threats, Zoe knew it was going to have to be her.
If her family could see her right now, there would no doubt be questioning stares and shocked faces. Zoe was almost an entirely different person now and, while she was still the innocent country mouse, little things had changed over time and turned her into a stronger, not as frightened mouse. It'd started off with small things; learning how to make her way around a city and take care of herself. But, eventually, those tiny changes had added up and resulted in the relaxed young woman wearing tiny shorts who was parading around her boyfriend's apartment tonight. Some of it was thanks to him, like the reason behind wearing the shorts, but, mostly, it was Zoe enjoying her freedom. Back home, she couldn't do this without being scolded; here, she was free to do what she liked, and that included wearing miniscule clothing.
Zoe caught his grumbling, and she rolled her eyes at him, leaving her cookies to bake and coming back to the living room. "Yer not gonna pout all night, are ya? She doesn't pout when yer out with me," she said, cuddling up to his side on the couch. She had ideas to get his mind off his sister if he kept this attitude up, though she was wondering if he'd even like what tricks she had whlie he was in this "big brother" mood.

Romeo did not like the idea of Ellie dating at all. He knew he couldn’t stop her and he never would try to, but he would strop and sulk about it like every big brother did and interrogate the hell out of the kid who thought he was good enough for his very own little sister. No one would ever be good enough in Romeo’s eyes for Ellie, but that was probably why she had conned Zoe on side; to play the distraction and keep Romeo from scaring the teenage boy who thought nothing of it when he knocked on the apartment door. Romeo had asked the smaller brunette if she had told Mike about her living arrangements, that her big brother had practically raised her and that he was one terrifying S.O.B when he wanted to be. She had just laughed, shook her head and told him to calm down before he did himself an injury.
Ellie had been hurt too much in her life by the broken family she had come from and Romeo didn’t want to see her hurt again, especially not by someone she thought she could trust. Seemingly, this Mike fell into that category, much to Romeo’s displeasure. Sixteen year old girls should not trust any teenage boy they encounter and that should be the end of it. He had been terrible at sixteen, he knew that and he knew most of his classmates to be even worse than him and he doubted society had changed that much since then. “Well I don’t need a shotgun.”
He muttered darkly. His fists were more than enough to send a message, as was the dark look in his eyes right now. The kid might’ve been the greatest guy in school with the shining reputation, but Romeo would not trust him for a long time. If Mike continued to date Ellie then he might tolerate him, but trust did not come easily with the twenty four year old and he would always have a watchful eye out for his little sister. As he sat on the couch he thought about everything Ellie had been through and everything he had helped her through. He reached up, running his fingers over the new scar on his left temple. It had been the spot where his head had been split open in the fight with his dad before the man had wound up back in jail for a shorter stay than Romeo thought he should have got. The scar was a reminder of that man and the lengths Romeo would go to in order to keep Ellie safe from harm. It didn’t matter who the other person was, if Ellie was threatened, Romeo would fight; it was a sentiment that extended to every person in his life who he cared deeply for. “We’re not sixteen year olds fighting with our hormones.” He stated. When he was out with Zoe, Ellie usually had friends over and some girl night took place that Romeo was never privy to. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED! Zoe did not want to be fussing about Ellie the entire night. Selfish, sure, but she and Romeo didn't get many nights like these. Usually, the teenager was running about, going in and out of whatever attempt at a "date" the couple were trying to have. She may've had homework, may've been on the phone or in her room most of the time, but she was still there. And, while Zoe wouldn't complain about it, she did want to enjoy the rare time alone with her boyfriend without him brooding about his younger sister. Ellie came first, which she knew and would never try to change, but, Ellie was out for the night and Zoe was there; didn't that make it girlfriend time, and not little sister?
She didn't know how else to grab his attention without resorting to her seductive plans. His favorite cookies were in the oven, she had on shorts tinier that any piece of clothing she owned, and she'd even picked out popcorn and new movies for their special night. Zoe had never been comfortable with the idea of trying to work her "charms" that Ember continously went on about whenever she dressed up. Truthfully, she didn't know how without feeling awkward and forced. And, besides, Romeo was in such a funk, she kept picturing herself being thrown to the floor so he could go chase after Ellie.
Zoe turned to face him on the couch, giving him a look that could quiet any tantrum-throwing child. "You are not doin' this all night. Ellie'll be fine, she'll call if she needs somethin', and she is 'llowed to have her bit of fun without ya broodin' about it tha entire time," she said sternly. Her face softening, she added, "We've barely seen each other this week, and we don't get many nights like these where Ellie's gone. I'm not stayin' if yer just gonna moan about yer sister." She crossed her arms over her chest, watching his expression to see if he'd actually make an attempt to enjoy the night alone.

There could have been other things going through his mind right now. He could have been thinking of ways to spend the evening without his little sister around to disturb them, but after everything that had happened in the recent months, Romeo was still on edge more than usual. He needed to know that Ellie was alright and he didn’t want her to be acting the part when she didn’t feel it deep down. Talking about relationships was one of the things the siblings never discussed and probably wouldn’t for a good number of years until they were both close to being on the same page. Romeo had never heard about this boy until this week and it worried him for more reasons that Zoe had been told yet.
He needed something to take him mind off of everything, but Zoe seemed to be busy fussing over Ellie and baking in the kitchen and there was no football on the TV tonight. He had no work that he had brought home or any emails that needed to be replied to…nothing to keep him busy and keep him from sitting on the couch in some sort of overprotective funk. It wasn’t exactly how he planned to spend the evening, but his mind kept bouncing back to bad times and worse case scenarios that probably wouldn’t happen, but kept coming back to the front of his thoughts to haunt him some more.
Pushing his fingers through his hair, Romeo looked at Zoe and then pushed himself to his feet to organise the laundry that he had already sorted through earlier. “I’m sorry, love, she’s just not back t’ ‘er normal self yet. Makes us worry more.”
He mumbled, moving to take Ellie’s clothes through to her room before returning to his girlfriend on the couch, pecking her cheek lightly before sighing and slumping back down in his seat. He didn’t know how to pull himself out of this mood without having something to do to pass the time and take his mind off of what could’ve been happening in some small and dark movie theatre somewhere in the city. It wasn’t fair on Zoe, he knew that, but he just couldn’t find a way to move on from his overprotective mood. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED! Zoe wanted Romeo to play boyfriend tonight, and not worrisome big brother. She knew that it probably wouldn't happen; knew that she was behind Ellie on his list of important people. It didn't stop her from wanting her Romeo, though. They'd had fun nights together before; the two of them, PJ's, inside jokes and silly movies. That was what tonight should've been about. Ellie off enjoying herself on her date, and the older couple enjoying their rare night in the apartment. Instead, Zoe was picturing Romeo sulking about while she tried to tempt him with her less than innocent ideas.
She sighed as he got up to tend to the laundry, biting her lip as he walked off to Ellie's room. Her words had been harsh and she knew it; they were also true. Both of them had been working this week, leaving little time for carefree datenights and visits together. This evening was their shot at that, something Zoe didn't want to waste. "No, I'm sorry. I know yer worried about her; I shouldn't push," she said, cuddling into his side as he came back to the couch. Turning her head up, Zoe gently brushed her lips over his, revelling in the sparks she'd been missing all week long. A day just didn't feel complete without one of these, even if it was in passing; they were too addictive to go without. Zoe twisted around on the couch, putting herself closer to Romeo. She kissed him again, running a soft hand down his cheek before pulling back for air. "Maybe a little of this will take yer mind off her," she whispered, pressing her lips back to his, the passion she rarely gave into blossoming in her stomach.
Zoe was very hesitant to go farther; she always was when moments like these began. It was always the second of "when do I stop?" that had her worrying, and the thoughts of it she'd be able to. Most of the time, it honestly took every ounce of self control she posessed; she wondered if, one day, maybe it'd crack before she was ready to.

Usually Romeo was pretty good at switching from big brother to boyfriend to reliable supervisor, but since the drama with their father had taken place he was struggling to let go of that big brother part of his personality when the time called for it. He knew that it was behind them again now and that things were back to normal but he had been there throughout Ellie’s life to know about the nightmares she pretended didn’t happen and the moments of reckless behaviour that he had been quick enough to tame. Really, his biggest worry was that his little sister might do something stupid just to try and forget about it all; Ellie was smart, but even she had moments when it slipped.
He knew how busy both him and his girlfriend had been lately, neither of them really with the time or energy for some fancy date night or long movie marathon on his couch. Zoe had been so good to him and Ellie during everything that had happened, giving him his space when he needed a night to himself, or taking Ellie out when Romeo had to deal with the courts or the repercussions of the fight in his apartment. He had yet to think of a way to show the country girl just how much that meant to him, but he barely had time to think about dinner, let alone some nice date where he could spoil Zoe and treat her how she deserved to be treated; like a princess. “Y’re not pushin’, love.”
He told her with a reassuring little smile. She did have a point, he was just struggling to switch off right now and it wasn’t fair on the pretty blonde. Her kisses did the trick though, and he smirked at her words before their lips met again. Romeo didn’t want to scare Zoe off, or make her think that he was trying to push her into something, so he usually let her control what happened when they were alone and letting into those small desires. His hands found her waist, one snaking around her back to trail up her spine as he kissed her just a little bit harder, hoping she wouldn’t mind or think that he was hoping for something more; he was more of a gentleman than that. She may not've been sixteen, but Zoe often found herself battling with her hormones whenever she and Romeo got their rare moments alone. He was just so intoxicating; it was hard to say no when every inch of her body was screaming to give into the lusty kisses. Somehow, she'd managed it each time so far, but she was starting to wonder how it'd feel to go farther. She trusted Romeo; knew he wouldn't hurt her or use her. The thoughts of taking the next step never failed to make her blush and make her stomach twist into knots, but they also brought on a twinge of excitement she constantly scolded herself about. She would hang on longer and save it for whoever ended up slipping a ring onto her hand; she had to hold onto some piece of innocence if she wanted to keep her parents sane.
Zoe didn't need a reward for sticking around for the siblings. She wanted to, and would've hated herself if she'd just sat by and waited for the storm to blow over. That wasn't what she did; she stuck her nose in and helped out, even if it really wasn't her fight to be in. Besides, with both of the siblings battling demons, someone had to be there to cook and look after them, and she'd readily taken on the roll. She didn't want a treat or soe sort of repayment for her time spent fussing; it was just what Zoe did, and always would do.
As he kissed back, she couldn't keep a smile off her face. This was the guy she wanted; protective big brother could be saved for Ellie. Zoe cuddled into his lap, her arms around his neck as he held her close. One of her hands played with his hair, the rest of her too lost in the bliss of kissing him. She was going to have to end this eventually, but, nothing had happened to make her uncomfortable or want to cut it off. She didn't want to stop.

Romeo was surprised at his own self-control. He respected Zoe’s choice and didn’t want to make her feel as though he was pressuring her into something, but a part of him did want things to go further. He had never mentioned it explicitly to Zoe, but he had a feeling she had to know about the effect she had on him sometimes, especially when they were alone like this. These kisses were, surprisingly, enough for him though he always found himself needing to control his thoughts whenever they finally separated and went back to their innocent relationship.
He knew that Zoe wasn’t oblivious to his past. He had ex-girlfriends and most of them were in New York, but none of them made him feel the way this country blonde did. Zoe had his stomach tying in knots whenever she was this close to him and the butterflies appeared the very second he laid his eyes on her. He had never felt like this before and the more time he spent with Zoe the stronger that feeling got. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what that meant, but Romeo had been waiting for the right moment and the perfect date to make those feelings something official. Their busy lives and the recent drama in his hadn’t really given him the time to plan the right moment. Most of their date nights had been movie nights with Ellie joining them or hidden away in her bedroom because Romeo hadn’t wanted to leave her alone when the nightmares of their dad’s last visit still lingered for the young teenager. Zoe had understood all of that though and the night Ellie mentioned this little date of hers was the night Romeo knew his little sister was going to be okay, providing this kid didn’t give him a reason to kick his scrawny ass.
Pulling her closer, Romeo was barely able to remember where he was and what else was happening. He was far too lost in the kiss, his hands holding Zoe tighter as he shifted slightly so that she could be closer to him. He pulled away, breathless and still a little dazed and lightheaded from one of their few not-so-innocent moments. Romeo was working so hard to keep himself in check physically that he didn’t even stop to consider what his lips might do if they weren’t kissing Zoe right now. His hand reached up to cup her jaw, thumb ghosting over her cheek as he kissed her again, still intoxicated by the kiss before breaking apart again to control himself once more. It was this time that he forgot about the situation they were in; his emotions were running just a little too high for that. “I love you.”
He breathed, before pressing his lips to hers again, barely aware of those three little words that he had let slip out. [/blockquote][/blockquote] • • • TAGGED! His Juliet <3 WORDS! 517 OUTFIT! Sexy Mofo! LYRICS! Run Rabbit Run - - - The Hoosiers NOTES!

Zoe could honestly say she'd never been in love before she met Romeo. The three words had never been exchanged between the two of them, but she knew without a doubt that she was head over heels for her city boy. He could make her laugh with a single look, and get her heart pounding from one simple kiss; he knew her better than anyone else on the planet. There wasn't a need for constant entertainment, or for both of them to be going and doing something. They could cuddle on a couch or spend the night in the apartment with Ellie and be perfectly happy; being together was just that perfect. She'd never thought of telling him though, mainly for fear of what he'd say in return. Their relationship was so wonderful right now that she didn't want to screw it up by taking another bound forward, even if she felt like she was ready to. If she ever said those words to him, she'd mean them; she'd mean them with all her heart.
She knew the shorts would pay off at some point this evening. They'd be staying on her body, of course, but, they were already only covering the bare minimum. Paired with her tank top, the outfit didn't leave much to the imagination, and Zoe was kind of liking the idea of being sexy for an evening instead of cute.
Every inch of her body was comfortable with their heated kiss. She didn't want to lose the feeling of his lips glued to hers, and she didn't want him to let go; she wanted to stay pressed against his chest, safely locked in the embrace that showed strength and gentleness all in the same touch. Zoe's breathing was laboured as Romeo broke the kiss, though she didn't pause as she trailed her lips down his jaw. She let her head rest on his shoulder for a moment so she could catch her own breath, easily moving to meet his lips again when his hand met her cheek. It was going to take so long for them both to cool down after this, but, right now, she couldn't care less.
The only thing to yank her out of her lust-filled bliss were the words that echoed from Romeo's mouth. "What did you just say?" She froze, lips hovering above his as she took a moment to process what had just happened. "I... you... you what?" Zoe couldn't help her breathless stuttering, pulling back all together so she could look him in the eyes. Before he could answer her question, the timer on the oven began wailing, signalling that the cookies were finished baking. "The cookies are done," she said, still out of breath as she clumsily untangled herself from his arms.
Zoe was in the kitchen in a blink, flicking the timer off and sliding her hand into an oven mitt. She pulled the sheet of golden cookies from the oven and set them on the stove top, returning the mitt to its home and hitting the button to turn the oven off. She stood there for a moment, pretending to be busy and pulling a spatula out of a drawer, but, between trying to shake her desire off and attempting to register Romeo's whispered words, it was a miracle she was still upright.
